- Porsche wants to make sure you can hear your 4.0L naturally aspirated flat-6 scream, so they plop it in the interior of the car, about 6 inches from your head. Driving the GT4 RS was one of the most unforgettable experiences of my life. I need this car more than I've ever needed anything ever.

I'm sure that anybody with a car like this in the garage never needs to deal with depression. I mean a single drive with this thing will seemingly cure freakin cancer. What an amazing piece of engineering...
I wish that were true. The truth is once you buy your childhood dream car you have to find a new way to stay motivated. Making enough money to afford these cars requires a high level of motivation.
My mental problems didn't magically disappear either but they do go away when behind the wheel!

But you can go experience it for yourself at the Porsche Experience Center in Los Angeles.

@@ricktrue8441 The one in Atlanta does not have any GT4RS experiences (at least not as of last week). The one in Los Angeles has 2 GT4RS vehicles on site for the experience. Some restrictions apply, but their website is informative.

God.. that noise from 4-5k under hard throttle is just such a special sound. The whole car is, for lack of a better word, breathtaking.
The initial break in period leaves you in so much anticipation--waiting to be able to finally be able to push the throttle into pure aural bliss. Great video, fantastic drive, and awesome audio!!

When I'm on back roads here in Northern California she has more than enough power and amazing handling, I can only imagine what the unaltered GT3 engine does in Thales 718 chasis.

What is even more surprising is that the sound we get when driving the 4RS is the toned down version. The 4RS almost got produced with even more in-cabin dB, if you can believe it, until they dialed it down a bit to lessen the number of customers sustaining hearing damage. That and reconciling the undesirable sounds with the higher level of noise.
@@pedrowhite911 Nothing that an aftermarket exhaust cant fix ;) Porsche does not wanna get in trouble legaly with their production exhaust, but they very well know their clients and that 90% of exhauts are gonna be changed.
I’m moving back to the Bay Area after I finish nursing school. I hoping that someday I can buy a 911 or a GT4. Is it hard getting a build allocation?
@@jasonroy169I was told by a dealership in Maryland that yes it is kinda hard to get an allocation for Porsche GT cars since they get so few cars a year but where there’s a will there is a way!

Is it really that loud in the interior ? What about driving long road trips with this thing. Can you drive it decent quiet somehow by not revving it too much ? Thinking about a GT4RS or a GT3. I think the GT4 RS would be more value stable over the years than the GT3.
@@xWhiteFalcoNx This is really not a car for long road trips (although manageable) and yes, it is really that loud inside, no video can do it justice. 110+ dB is like front row at a rock concert. The couple of people i let experience it were blown away.

My buddy, an owner of MANY Porsches, including a new GT3, just got one of these. He said the GT4RS is the best car Porsche has ever built. The PDK is almost telepathic and the sound is ridiculous. Now I just need to get a ride in it!

you guys have 1 big problem: you don't live here in good old germany, where the "autobahn" gives you free parts where you can drive the 300 km/h very well, so you can have fun with the sound in the last gear @ 300 km/h 😎

A little orchestral tip; downshift in the tunnel… not before. Tunnel, downshift 1 or two gears, hear the engine scream and then floor it. And window down. Of course.

The sound from 7-8000 RPM and then from 8-9000 RPM is JAW DROPPING. I'll prefer this on a GT3 RS

I love this shifter… I think Porsche should have just used this style shifter on all of the 992 Gen cars, instead of only offering it on the GT3

Drove this on Istanbul’s F1 racetrack with Porsche. Great on the track, no way to daily something like this, too loud. Important to point out its too loud from 7/7.5-9k rpm. Has whole different level at the end.

This is interesting for YTers. Consider how much eff you money you need to make this make sense. For about 90k less, you can have a cayman gts, well specced with a proper manual. And for that you won’t beat yourself up on roads or have a huge wing off the back of it.
718 GTS 4.0 is a fantastic sports car but it is not even on the same planet as the 4RS for performance or (perhaps most importantly) sound. Other than hypercars like the Carrera GT this is genuinely the wildest-sounding Porsche of the last several decades.

The cayman is nice but after selling mine and getting the latest 911 GTS 4 it’s a whole different planet - I suggest anyone to test drive one and you’ll see the absolute gap between these

I thought my GT4 with JCR exhaust sounded good. That RS is a whole different beast. Love that GT3 engine. Just remove the radio. The only music you need is your right foot increasing that soulful howl to a magnificent scream. 😅❤.

The cayman interior is 7 years old at this point and its about to be replaced by a apperently full EV next gen. So for Porsche to still deliver the GT4RS and canibalize its own 911 lineup with it is so Porsche lmao. I like the fact they put the GT4RS as a current gen and not wait for the new one, because this old one has the simple driver focused cabin, a really small screen and its a race car for the road. If u want new tech and bigger screens u can go get the GT3(RS), but it doesnt surprise me that almost all first production cars of GT4RS have been instantly sold out. Its gonna have a limited number of 7000 for whole world so its gonna keep its value insanely good. Rear mid engined, rwd with a NA 4.0 9k rpm engine, no special new technology and just pure driver car madness for true petrolhead lovers.
If old means not having a hideous tablet tacked onto the dash, I’ll take it!

Sold mine, it's fun for about 20 mins then it's draining. Just too loud. Never thought i would say that... The highway drone is horrible. Track only car for sure. Wear earplugs.
What a car!! Weird to say but I think the intake noise is actually too loud haha. It's probably 90db plus in the cabin.

I’ve had my RS for two weeks now and it’s still being run in. This video is killing me. Lol
The power output in a Porsche is not the critical issue - IT IS THE DRIVE. They are so well balanced and set up that whether it is a 911 or Cayman there is a great driving experience whatever the power output. I am on my third Cayman, now a 3.4 litre 340bhp GTS. Who needs more? Let's be blunt, how many seconds or fractions of a second can you use that power, unless you go on a race track. Too many car magazines/testers especially in the US, are only about numbers, not what the car feels like, the driving experience. It is the same with a 911: you still have a great time at the lower end. My caveat is against the 4-cylinder 718. My wife and I took one out for a whole day. It has plenty of power, but her verdict: it's like riding around in a lawnmower. The 6 cylinders are essential to the Porsche experience.
Is there a clutch pedal? Do you need it for downshifting?
