I saw this band in Chicago in 2004. I was 40 years old. A year and a half before the concert, I felt what the fans in the UK felt. I listened to my CD everyday. I was even worried about Pete when stories of his choice of drugs got back to us. I didn't even know the man and here I was concerned just as much as you all were. That's when the press turned on him which is a bad habit in its own way. Call me an Anglophile if you want to. I mean, I was only six years old when my Uncle played "Parachute" by The Pretty Things. That was probably the first album I heard in its entirety. I still love that band. So I guess that's one reason I have liked music, especially from England. When I read in a music magazine (Q, i think) that The Libertines was "Britain's answer to The Strokes," I was in. I paid $15 for my ticket, $20 for my "Fuck 'em" shirt, and $75 for gasoline for the 700 mile round trip drive to Chicago from Carbondale, IL. The Strokes got a very warm welcome in all of Europe, especially the UK. You all appreciate music more than us. I love them too. That was the last true Renaissance in rock music after Nirvana shook things up and we all know how much you love them too. This is why I love the UK. Rock 'n Roll was modified at least twice in its history. Three if we count the NWOBHM movement which I definitely was into when I was in high school. How old am I now? I'll be 60 in December and my love for rock has not changed. I love GVF too lol. Cheers!
After Grunge and Madchester, there was a long period, for me at least, when everything seemed mediocre. Nothing appealed to me. Then I heard the Libertines by coincidence. What a shock! It just punched me in the gut with its power and poetry. The first band that turned me on like no other band at the time. It is only unfortunate that they didn't last longer and keep putting out classic songs. Mick Jones was the natural choice for producer and it really worked.
I cant believe pete and carl didn't know who mick Jones was. I'm peters age and loved the clash since i about 6 when i heard should i stay or should i go
Cheers for watching! Subscribe to my channel if you'd like to see more and tell me in the comments who you'd like me to cover in my next video 🎸 💻
One of the greatest bands this side of the millennium.
Get off the Kool Aid. Mediocrity at best
It's so great to hear some new info on the making of this awesome album. Thank you!
My pleasure, thanks for watching.
