Actually, this episode is about Marie. Robert didn't get the job because there were better qualified applicants. Marie's sabotage didn't matter. Her reason for her sabotage at the end made this episode. She's a caring and loving mother.

Robert hit the nail on the head when he called Marie a saboteur and "Queen Marie". Marie is a total and complete narcissist
I have a sister that makes Marie look normal.
Talk about the fact that she tried to shoe Deborah away when she was learning French.
If you watch the rest of the episode, you realize that in this case, it comes from a place of love and fear for her son. Still not forgivable, but at least understandable.

Marie loves Raymond more than she does Robert because the latter is a reminder of her and Frank giving in to their desires for each other and then having to get married after Marie discovered she was pregnant with Robert. Marie on some level blames Robert for her marrying a man she now hates.
Yep!! And the sad part is she doesn't realise it!! And if she does she's very good at doing it in a "didn't do it" way!!
@@ekweseman I don't think that's true at all. Marie loves Robert as much as Ray, maybe more. She wrote the letter on purpose so he wouldn't get such a dangerous job.

The actor was Sam Anderson, who is probably better remembered as the antagonistic Mr. Gorpley on Perfect Strangers.

I literally watched Robert's soul leave his body when he started reading the letter. When I saw this episode air i almost died laughing at his reactions. Especially when he stood at the door lol

This episode is my favorite of them all since it's hilarious. It's great when Robert comes in the house looking as if he's ready to kill Marie. It cracks me up. He at least points out, yelling at Marie since she rudely interfered.

Garrett absolutely STOLE every damn scene he was in, nothing but a pure professional on the spot! At 1:58, it's either a tear or a camera trick in his eyes, because that face was nothing less than f...g genius!
That should be his cue to get heck out of there and cut ties completely

Robert was always better off cutting her loose entirely. Sometimes acceptance and validation isn’t worth it especially from an emotionally abusive narcissistic mother like Marie.

Honestly, I am very surprised Robert was not done with Marie after this.
Even tho it's just a show, there are a lot of real life parents like this. And in real life, Robert would have wrote her off right then.
@@xxwhispersxx2856 Honestly, something that gets pointed out a couple different times over the course of the series is that Robert is a really good cop. So to have Marie sabotage him during the ultimate test of all his years of experience, you might disagree with me, but that is arguably worse than her interrupting his wedding.
My dad did this to me. Haven’t spoken to him in 5 years.

During finals week my parents were moving and instead of my mom wanting to help, she decided to fly to a destination location with her girlfriends to have a fun time. As a result my dad made me sacrifice my finals week so I could help him move boxes. I helped him, left to take an exam; dad got furious and showed up on campus, found out what room I was in, stormed in and forced me to leave so I could come help him. As a result of the scene he created I ended up getting expelled as the police ended up getting involved. This all happened when I was a senior and was less then 2 weeks away from graduation. Ended up transferring to a different college but due to stupid school regulations a lot of my credits wouldn’t transfer and essentially added 2 more years of classes to my schedule. I said fk it and switched careers (at that point I didn’t have the money to get me through another 2 years). Ended up picking another career where I could graduate in 1 semester. Hopefully once my student debt is finally paid off I can go back and finish the dream I started.
An FBI agent took less than 5 minutes to read a letter from Marie...and looked completely, utterly beaten 😂 Let that sink in.
This is when I felt bad for Robert and I never saw Marie the same. This was so wrong..... smh

Marie has always resented Robert for being conceived out of wedlock and is apparently the reason why she had to marry Frank.
It does seem obvious that Marie Did this on purpose, Robert is Right- she wants to keep her family the way she wants it, a normal mother wouldn’t interfere her children’s lives like she does
The only thing that would make this video better is to include the rest of the scene, especially the "Listen to me, woman!" growl that Robert gives when Marie leaves "limping"
P.S. Context for "limping" Marie always puts on this "frail old lady" act whenever people are standing up to her, because she's such a narcissist.

I absolutely hated when Deb defended Maries actions. Not only did it make me lose respect for her, but it just felt completely against her charecter. It's as if they fired all existing writters and just hired new random ones, all of which have never seen a single episode of ELR

After all the times Robert backed her up, and yes I know it was motivated by his jealousy of Raymond and sucks up to Debra at every turn, nevertheless he supported her and the one time he needed just a little support, Debra sides with Marie. She says Marie is not a saboteur and yet who was it who sabotaged Debra’s cooking a few seasons earlier 🤔

Honestly looking back they treated some up fucked parts like a joke, marie was nothing but a walking red flag
