Now over 3 million 10 months after your post. I am one of them. I started watching for photography tips and now watch everything he has. Its his positive attitude and personality which makes him successful in my opinion.
I don't have the same level of success, but I find RUclips to be very risky to rely upon and I have millions of views. Many RUclipsrs popular long ago are no longer popular just a few years ago. (Toby Turner)
It didn't hurt that he was already a professional photographer/videographer with professional equipment and the skills necessary to do something like make the simple act of making a salad just look incredible.
Yea without a doubt. But he was able to hit the ground running. For us plebs it could take a year or two just to hone the skills necessary to take our production value to the next level. It doesn't necessarily require a bunch of expensive equipment, but it does require the know-how. When a video has high production value it's easy to watch; and when it's easy to watch it's also fun to watch. Peter is certainly a pro at content creation.

He IS a talented entertainer and really capable photographer/videographer who knows how to get you attention and without too much drama and BS gets to the point. Brilliant video! Peter is a genius considering most people are attempting to increase their social media presence. The main way you do that is with photography and videography skills.
i stumbled across his channel back when he has 300k subs for photoshop tutorial only, but then more stuff came in on his content and it tooked my interest specially those cinematics and had me convinced to borrow my dads camera which later on he gave to me and is now teaching me instead
it's funny, there is a small group of us who have been subbed for years to Petes channel, and even remember the time the channel got suspended. Again, a small group, but we have been following Pete for years thanks to DM and Ellusionist. Those product shots were always so good.

His image and marketing of himself is probably the biggest reason. You can clearly see his evolution from techy guy to cool trendy video bro over the years.
Really interesting to see it broken down, but the drawing animation would have been cool once or twice but after a couple mins gets distracting. One of the things that makes Pete successful is that he throws himself and his personality into it... you end up thinking of him as a friend because you see him in all his videos. Maybe you should do the same if you wanna grow your audience? Or maybe you’re actually a talking hand with a sharpie, in which case I withdraw my friendly observation

@@andrethedias and does he still use that same shitty laptop/webcam/equipment? no, he got a check from doing well and upgraded every aspect of his channel and gear because hes passionate about what he does. naturally you upgrade to higher quality products to produce higher quality content. that being said pewds makes memes and shitty low quality videos on purpose because thats his whole gimmick, it doesnt make sense for a professional photographer to use cheep amateur gear and be taken seriously as a professional, just my two cents 🤷🏻♂️
