It will only download the driver and no extra software so you are getting the necessities and nothing that will bog your computer or change the programming

I love you. I had tried previously but not uninstalled geforce experience nor run the new install as admin. This worked perfectly for me and stopped me taking a hammer to my PC. Legend
The key step here was manually uninstalling geforce experience before reinstalling nvidia drivers. I tried doing a full clean install of the drivers without first manually removing geforce and that did not work. Manually removing geforce first does work.
Yeah, type add / remove a program into windows search, open up the settings app that appear, then scroll down to Nvidia GeForce and uninstall that. Then you can do a clean Nvidia driver install.

So this didn't work for me, but I did figure my issue out. Wanted to post it here in case it can help anyone else. I was installing GeForce onto my D drive, but my OS and Nvidia Control Panel were installed on my C drive, changing my default install location back to C and doing a clean install fixed it for me.

I contacted Geforce support just now. They advised to NOT uninstall the driver and to Only uninstall the geforce experience itself. I did that and then got the latest version from the link that they gave me www.geforce.com/geforce-experience/download Which I did, I noted that their version was xxxx,118 compared to the usual xxx.105 It is now all okay and I have a working Nvidia again
