What Is Consciousness & Where Is It?" Featuring Deepak Chopra
What is the fundamental activity in the universe? Although neuroscience has made enormous progress in looking at the brain correlates of subjective and objective experience, there is still no theory on how we experience mental or perceptual reality. This is known as the "hard problem" in consciousness research.
    • Is there a scientifically viable way to explain consciousness?
    • Does mainstream science have the methodologies to address this question?
    • How do we explain intention, insight, intuition, imagination, creativity, or free will?
    • Is free will an illusion?
    • Are there states of consciousness that go beyond waking, dreaming and sleeping?
Wisdom traditions speak of higher states of consciousness such as soul consciousness, cosmic consciousness, divine consciousness, and unity consciousness. Is there a way of understanding these states or validating them scientifically? Is our current science which is based on a subject/object split equipped to answer these mysteries? What is the nature of the universe? What is the of nature awareness that makes it possible for us to experience the universe?
Deepak is addressing in this talk these questions as well as others cosmic riddles.
DEEPAK CHOPRA is the author of more than seventy books translated into over thirty-five languages, including numerous New York Times bestsellers in both the fiction and nonfiction categories. Deepak is the Founder of The Chopra Foundation, Co-founder of The Chopra Center for Wellbeing, Adjunct Professor of Executive Programs at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, Adjunct Professor at Columbia Business School, Columbia University, and Senior Scientist with The Gallup Organization. Interesting! (consciousness cannot be directly observed or measured) ... "consciousness cannot be observed because it's always the observer it cannot be measured because its doing the measuring" ... "the only way to have a direct experience of consciousness is through self awareness" And spirituality is that progressive journey into self awareness! Thank you Deepak ...

    What's maturity
    1. Maturity is when you stop trying to change others, but instead focus on changing yourself.
    2. Maturity is when you accept people who they are.
    3. Maturity is when you understand everyone is right in their own perspective.
    4. Maturity is when you learn to "let go".
    5. Maturity is when you are able to drop "expectations" from a relationship and give for the sake of giving.
    6. Maturity is when you understand whatever you do, you do for your own peace.
    7. Maturity is when you stop proving to the world, how intelligent you are.
    8. Maturity is when you do not seek approval from others.
    9. Maturity is when you stop comparing with others.
    10. Maturity is when you are at peace with yourself.
    11. Maturity is when you are able to differentiate between "need" and "want" and are able to let go of your wants.
& last but most meaningful !
    12. You gain Maturity when you stop attaching "happiness" to material things !!

Krishna Kumar definitely Hindus knew better as to who we r 5000years back than what science knows today about us.. but when it comes to matter and it's properties today's scientists know way more... we are like little children with infinite toys, the scientists for thousands of years have studied the toys fully involved in playing with new toys, but Hindus studied the player involved with toys.. obviously this cannot be proved in a lab interms of toys, here proof is only yourself

All the "you" as you know yourself can do is interpret who or what is listening. The organism listens and everything else is interpreted through thinking and the knowledge put into you. You are living a continuity of the past. This is all thinking is interested in, thinking, thinking and more thinking, better thinking, clearer thinking. That thinking is sometimes called your mind. But there seems to be no my mind and your mind, just mind and perhaps that's another interpretation.

    • @shrikramalei9091
      @shrikramalei9091 9 лет назад

Ferdinand Alexander There is no mind but in reflexiveness, analytical or purely reactive, it seems you conflate SELF and MIND there is only one self, and the mind is a construct, not the ''subject'' there is nothing like a ''cosmic mind'' other than a speculation, while there is a supreme self consciousness being the subject, individually reflected in each one of us...

    • @ferdinandalexander8053
      @ferdinandalexander8053 9 лет назад

Lei Shri Krama All empty words. It's all speculation, interpretation and translation. "self" is a concept. There appears to be thinking yet most thoughts are about thoughts and this could be nothing more than a neurological mutation that for lack of a better word "nature" will eventually correct.

The first part of this lecture is truly clear as long as I am listening to you dear Deepak. The moment I start thinking about it the clarity is totally gone lol!
Now I finally understand what you mean by the "Seduction of Spirit"~:D~
I understand by now what you mean by the consciousness of every cell and what Jesus said about this in the Bible: "Before Abraham I am"... thanks
Substracting from my own "out of body" experience I now also realize that every discipline whether it is science, religion, philosophy, non-duality, psychology, gestalt., etc. are all disciplines invented by the human mind: all pieces of the puzzle where each piece carries the completeness of the whole puzzle inside itself.
You say: "Consciousness is subject and object as potential"
To me this means: consciousness is That to which I give meaning. I am That meaning.
It is so simple so why on Earth have we made it so difficult?
Thank you for putting the puzzle together.
In the end we'll probably all merge into the Cloud of pure potential (like Google is aiming at LOL).
Welcome to Cloud nine, my special space ~:D~

first time i heard my own thoughts from someone, first him and now in your comment... but i have problem which torments me for a decade now... when we are joint our uniqness dissolves. which is equal to "common" death... and it isnt comforting whatsoever. we are awarded with ignorance(assuming that you are good human being)

    • @miekevanderpoll
      @miekevanderpoll 9 лет назад

Cauda Miller No, our uniqueness will not dissolve, according to Pierre Teilhard de Jardin. Just as all those disciplines are a holistic part of the 'hologram' so are we. But to me the wonder is: we all are That; each of us in our Natural Own Way and I believe we always take that way with us wherever we go. What happens after death, no one knows. If we have been able to live a life in contentment, maybe gratitude for that will be our last fulfilment.......So let your Spirit seduce you into your own special greatness, everyone has a greatness and the beauty is they are all different!

Dear cloud nine. I have been looking for you for most of my life. Ever since I was very young and froze in my tracks because suddenly a fog that had surrounded my childhood dissolved and I found myself looking at my hand and wondering what it was. Then I noticed my arm and did not recognize it either. The same with my body. And then this world and then the entire universe. The only thing I was sure of was that I was a stranger in a strange place. And I was quite befuddled. About 10 minutes later, I asked my dad, what the hell is going on? What is the meaning of life? He studied my eyes and then he suddenly was not able to hold back a hidden smile that I sensed as pride. Great pride. He took me outside and showed me the cars parked around our street and neighborhood and driving on the street and he told me that these cars were real, because we could touch them and see them. And then he told me that I was old enough now to understand that men made these things. He made the same argument for the houses in our neighborhood. But then he pointed at the sky (1970) and pointed at the moon. He said the moon was also real as we could see it and men had touched it, but I was now old enough to understand that men did NOT make the moon, but SOMEBODY made it because it was there. And then he lovingly pat me on top of my head and told me that when I figured out who made the moon, I would get the answers to all the questions and had or would ever have. And he went back into our house and left me staring at the moon for quite some time. Fifty years later, I sat quietly alone in my back yard on a beautiful and peaceful morning and I looked into the heavens and wondered to myself, why I couldn’t get the answers to the questions that I had been seeking for all of my life. And then, to my great surprise, the universe answered me. And the universe told me that I could not get the answers because I was looking for them through human eyes, and that the things I was asking about were not of human making but rather were made by God. In order for me to get the answers I was looking for, I would need to look through God’s eyes. Then the universe handed me a pair of glasses and I somehow reached up into the clouds, took them and put them on. Then I was instantly moved to a place that I can only say is not in our earthly plane and probably not even in this universe. For the first fraction of a second, I became all knowledge and all knowledge became me. We were one and the same. And I knew everything and it all seemed easier than child’s play. And before I could even finish a thought about all of that, I was then moved again into a cloud ( cloud nine I assume) and now my first thought was a thought and a deep knowing and feeling, that relatively speaking, made all knowledge seem like a worthless piece of trash that you would never give a second thought to. This cloud defied description and scope and was endless. It was the everything. The best way I could describe it is to say that it was the very heart of God. For it was pure love. Even to try and describe it is a terrible injustice, almost an insult. That’s how pure and powerful and holy it was. And I floated through it like it was a gaseous cloud of cotton candy. And I was in nirvana because now, finally, I had returned to for where I came from and belonged. And the joy, with each fractional blink of time grew exponentially and then I realized that the love was not only floating by me, but also through me and then I realized that I was about to expand into my own personal universe of infinite love and perhaps explode into countless pieces of joy and bliss and ecstasy that I ripped off the glasses and gave them back to the universe. The whole incident took about 10 seconds. But it felt like a million lifetimes. And it was weeks before I felt my feet touch the ground again. And my eyes are now able to not only see the fingerprints of God in everything, but also to feel His love in everything. Even in myself. And now the only burden in my heart is that I don’t know how I am going to thank God for the countless blessings and joy that He has given to me, including the greatest of them all, life and love.

    1. Consciousness is holding the same place in the universe what it holds in my dream.
    2. My dream (Including me and others, who were living in my dream) was imagined, seen and known by consciousness, which was independent of my dream.
    3. The universe(Including me and others who are living in the universe) is imagined, seen and known by consciousness, which is independent of the universe.

I agree with your unwillingness to accept what doesn't fit your own experience. It is preferable to know than to believe. Spirituality is about knowing the most important thing there is to know your self. I am like you and have always been eager to know myself for myself and was determined to get that knowledge. I don't generally follow Depak's or anyone's intellectual discussions on a subject that can be and must be experienced directly. For that I have found epistemological discussion peripheral and sometimes if not generally confusing.
If you are sincerely open to let science be science and still interested in self knowledge there are sources teachers masters past and present who can give you direction however the discovery is still up to you. After all it is Self Knowledge. Here are a few sources in the off chance you are interested: Prem Pal, Adyashanti, Mooji, Ramana Maharshi, these are authentic teachers with accessible messages that will require no belief on your part.

What Deepak is saying, is that classic science as we know it can only explain things that are objective, and it has no way of explaining the subjective. For example, science cannot explain love, hate, jealously, fear, pain etc. You cannot put these into a scientific equation because they are subjective. When someone says, "I love you SOOOO much", how much is much? You can't measure it 'scientifically' and express it as a quantity, mass, force, etc.

I was dressed appropriately - by all means looked like a regular dude. She was groomed and proper herself. You'd assume we would be the type to wear tinfoil hats everywhere outside of our lead walled bunkers. We were discussing the nature of existence. She was the one to mention we might be living in a matrix of a type. I can't remember who brought up A.I. It was as if she could read my mind. I would normally bring up something about weather. Or the crowded nature of the building. I bet she normally would, too. Did she go through a thing, too? or was it all me?

There is experience. But to say that there is an experiencer (subject) and an external world (object) already requires a leap of faith. Everything we think we know after that must be provisional, or simply assumed for the sake of conversation - in other words, (to put it kindly) castles in the air.

    • @bobaldo2339
      @bobaldo2339 7 лет назад

But, he tells a good story here, and tells it very well. If we are going to believe any story, this one is as good as any.

    • @bobaldo2339
      @bobaldo2339 7 лет назад

I would suggest that you not believe any story. But if you must believe a story, this one will do. I don't believe any stories myself. By 'experience' I mean what we call sights, sounds, odors, etc. ("sensations"), plus thoughts, and emotions. That's all we "know" directly.

    • @bobaldo2339
      @bobaldo2339 7 лет назад

I totally disagree with your analysis. I am talking about direct experiences - period. Very definitely, thoughts and emotions are experienced directly. Everything after that, for instance that there is a subjectivity ("you") and something "objective" outside of this "you" (a "world"), (all conceptual representations, for that matter) is/are inferred from direct experience. In fact, I just reread my first comment on this thread, and I said it there. Why need I repeat myself? I am not "mixing things up at all". You are just assuming that your own world-view is the only important one. You can go on and on as much as you like about the "story" you are telling yourself, and now telling me. I have said what I had to say. I am a great fan of science too. It tells a fascinating and useful story (actually many of them).
The Dali Lama is fascinated by science as well, as you probably know.
There are many different useful ways to look at the same things. Intellectual maturity begins with being able to handle paradox without anxiety. And with that, I am done with this thread.

As I told you, I do not believe in ANY story - most certainly not "woo". You appear to have no insight into yourself at all. Of course direct experience is what you call "subjective". After all it is YOU who are experiencing it. If it were external it would not be direct. That seems to be what you cannot see. If you cannot understand that, then there is no use in my talking to you. Also maybe you are not a native English speaker. That makes it harder to communicate.

The hard problem of consciousness has been solved a few years ago in a very elegant way. We are elastic holistic holograms embedded into our brains. And our Universe is also a hologram embedded into the higher dimensional space. We are living in the multidimensional holographic world. This is the only possible solution.

  • @cat77757
    @cat77757 5 лет назад

Can you say that this cosmos, or what we are experiencing, is an experience? or is it a naturally occurring event that is perpetual, and that we interpret or label as experience. It seems more a perpetual state of instantaneous manifestation with out end.a type of manifestation that exist in non linier space time, and in chronological time, therefore creation in the plank length, thus creation occurring micro- second to micro-second, with no time to hamper this perpetual motion.

  • @cbaxter4656

Could someone please explain to me if we talk about a "dreamlike" reality where everything is contained in consciousness, why do people still talk about the functions of the brain? The brain must be something we dream. Is it to say that reality is a very rich dream in which we affect our brain and it changes the nature of the dream? What about brain damage? I agree with the "conscious led" reality but struggling with this.

    • @Gmmaverick
      @Gmmaverick 9 лет назад

Because it's dream - *"like"* Not really a dream as we understand it in this reality. It would be "a dream" from the perspective of our true self, that would be soul, or spirit perspective.
Apparently we brought it into existence collectively (or as a unit which later splitted) a long time ago, and once we come *into it* we experience it from this perspective. (That may be connected to the reason why we "forget" past lives)
Everything would be "something we dreamed" but once we interact with it (That would be getting born here, or take a body if you will) we experience it as "real" because we are here.
As for the brain, it seems to be the conduct through which we connect with mind (from this reality) and our true self.
As for brain damage, it makes no difference in relation to the experience, or to the experiencer.
The only difference, is what we perceive in that person struggling to control their body which doesn't function well due to the brain being damaged. But there are accounts of say, deaf people whom have had OBEs and experienced perfect hearing while the incident lasted. Same with blind people, etc.
There's a girl in Canada with down syndrome who was able to start to communicate at age 14 (I think) and actually confirmed this. Not only that, but she actually stated that through all the years she wasn't able to communicate, she was able to understand everything perfectly, and many times heard the "scientists" who were "treating her" explain to her parents her condition and what she was able to perceive, understand, and how, etc, etc. And she actually said that none of those people had the sligthest clue about her condition and what she was, or wasn't able to perceive, understand, experience, or anything for that matter. She said she wanted to rip these idiots apart for talking all that nonsense which had absolutely nothing to do with her.

“A human being is a part of the whole called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feeling as something separated from the rest, a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.” ― Albert Einstein

Science does not have all the answers to the deep questions. Life is the biggest mystery of all ... the whole thing is beyond one's comprehension. Truly the Magical Mystery Tour. What came first ... the chicken or the egg? Sounds trite, but it is a heavy question. Something creates. Why do I say that? Well, it could not just be random chaos because of the way things all fit together like a magnificent puzzle. Also, I feel that that which creates is the ultimate artist. Look at all the beauty that exists. All the varieties of life ... so much of which we have not even yet seen or know of because new things are always being discovered and some very old things reappear (because they never disappeared). Hard for humans to be okay with not having answers. I just view all the good and beautiful things of life and say "Ahhh," and "thank you." There is room in life for scientists ... mystics ... artists ... seekers ... and they are all good in their own ways to open different doors of perception.

Transcendence of Consciousness self interacts with subjective possibilities. Hence the wholeness of existence is inextricably connected to neural networks. Perceptual reality is some dimension of boundless phenomena. Hence the materials of the physical world are collective responses of the all observers put together. The mind thus influences the activities of the brain. The mind conditions itself to create experiences. You cannot find the point where atoms/molecules become consciousness. As science looks into universe as observer independence the empirical relations of mind can never be made!

At around 16:00 he states that once you are a couple of cells, you're already aware, present. The observing self was even already there before that and has experienced all its ancestors.
Surprisingly nobody raises a question. There's no proof for that, not even signs. That's completely based on belief. And still it's the most important part of his theory that everything is consciousness.
You can only approach life in a philosophical way: we can never know the absolute truth, we can only rely on the relative truth. So it's pointless to deny our relative aka "objective" truth and try to search for other answers. It will never become more accurate than the "objective" truth.

Human knowledge of the deity has developed also step by step. At all times even when man owned more gods than one, each person, family or group, always had only one favourite god, which they called their god. So in a sense monotheism has been always the religion of man
The last revelation, however, does not speak of one god or monotheism. It simply says ‘God’ not one or two or three; as God is not subject to numbers, but is beyond them.

When you create a deity, you infuse it with the qualities you want it to exhibit, give it sentience and individuality. These are called CONSTRUCTS.
Then.................You breathe life into it. If you can get a number of people to keep this creation animated, (like being worshipped in a church) it will in time, become SELF-AWARE and will continue to be around for as long as you are animating it or as long as there are people animating it.

the physical body works on it's own, that you DO NOT control.. since you don't have to tell the physical body to digest food ect.. . however the physical body DOES NOT control you either... since it doesn't control what you think.. ect. i think astral projection blows materialism into pieces, cause the only way to really explain it is that there is more after "death" that death is only an illusion or a natrual process of transfering ones essence from one experiance to another or back to source.
that which is, is and will never not be. that which is concious is part of the undying conciousness that have always been and will ever be.
astral projection when you leave your physical body, you can travel away and go look for items as an example, then when you come back to your physical body that the astral body is anchored to (by what they call a silver thread, in some cases in mysticism/occultism ) you can go and find that item and it will be exactly where you saw it when you where out of your physical body. so if you're gonna try it, do so and make sure to look for an object where you have NOT been before, but not too far away from where you decide to project from, so you can get there rather easily (to not make it so annoying to go there) and you'll find the object exactly where you saw it, when you where out of your body.
I personaly think the brain is just a filter of conciousness. cause that's how it works. to take something unlimited and limit it through a filter or rather a frequency
reincarnation cases are interesting also, when children have been able to 100% spot on been able to describe their previous life and have had it looked up and turned out to be precise, which would be impossible if they wouldn't have been reincarnated.
so where is your conciousness located?... not in the physical body. that'd be my take on it
oh well.. just felt like sharing some thoughts on it

+crisisofconsciousnes "science is an offspring of consciousness" (yes from higher levels of consciousness or "rishi state" of hindu/vedic maharishis of India) which turned into theories in the west. But transcendental consciousness is beyond matter or beyond first three states of consciousness deep sleep, dream and wake states of consciousness. Einstein was NOT a rishi or yogi. In wake state, there is no way one can discover some of the deepest laws of nature like space time dilation, E=M, worm hole etc,. But Einstein acknowledged his hindu/vedic source for the formation of his quantum theories. Hiding behind "intuition" does not cut it
      "';Albert Einstein quote"
" When I read Baghavath Gita and reflect about how God created this universe, everything else seems superfluous (Un-necessary). I've made the vedas as the main source of information and guide for the purpose of scientific investigations and formation of my theories" eg E=M, space time dilation, Wormhole, Dark energy, gravity lensing, relativity etc etc - all lifted from 7000 yrs of Vedas (hinduism). Vedas were an oral tradition before 5000 BC.
By the way newton also copied material laws of nature from hindu/vedic source which he did not acknowledge. Newton copied laws of gravity from GURUTVAKSNA (hindu/vedic gravity text) By the way the word gravity itself was derived from the sanskrit word for gravity "Gurutva" via gravitas - a latin word which also derived from sanskrit word for gravity Gurutva. Newton also copied divine geometry from vedic parasmani texts. (a copy of the same text was found in jersualem). Newton also copied his so called three laws of motion from visheshika sutra (one of the six schools of hindu philosophy). Calculus was also discovered in India or then hindu civilization by a brilliant hindu mathematician and astronomer called Bhaskaracharya in 486 AD. Calculus was passed on to Newton by Jesuit missionaries (read crypto jews) from kerala school of astronomy and mathematics, South India when East India company (owned then by jewish bankers famously called as Rothschild) sneaked into then hindu civilization or India in the 17th century
This is where Deepak chopra has to be extremely careful when selling consciousness in a nice chocolate wrapper to his western audience from abrahamic religious background, atheists and scientists from so called "modern science" background who think that science is a separate entity and it originated in the west. Nice try. Atheists better be grateful to christianity (till 1700 AD) /judaism (from 1700 AD) since they fabricated origin and history of science. Thanks to colonialism
According to Western history, science originated among the Greeks, and then developed in post-renaissance Europe. This story was fabricated in three phases.
First, during the Crusades, scientific knowledge from across the world, in captured Arabic books, was given a theologically-correct origin by claiming it was all transmitted from the Greeks. The key cases of Euclid (geometry) and Claudius Ptolemy (astronomy)-both concocted figures-are used to illustrate this process.
Second, during the Inquisition, world scientific knowledge was again assigned a theologically-correct origin by claiming it was not transmitted from others, but was “independently rediscovered” by Europeans. The cases of Copernicus and Newton (calculus) illustrate this process of “revolution by rediscovery”.
Third, the appropriated knowledge was reinterpreted and aligned to post-Crusade theology. Colonial and racist historians exploited this, arguing that the (theologically) “correct” version of scientific knowledge (geometry, calculus, etc.) existed only in Europe.
These processes of appropriation continue to this day.

+crisisofconsciousnes Your "bite your own teeth" example probably works better when addressing the illusion of the relative "I" we think we usually are, as an ego or self.
I don't think science is barred from figuring out consciousness. That places it "beyond" reality, and infers dualism.
Chopra's problem, assuming astrophonix was mocking him, was that his rhetoric is New Agey. We can say consciousness/awareness just is. That's it. Non-locality brings up the idea of where is it relatively, and Chopra has *never* given an answer to a scientist who's asked this. He almost always goes on the offense, saying "they don't understand," but failing to explain it in a way that one can get it helps in them not understanding.

According to Hindu beliefs the Moon is farther from the Earth than the sun is, which is why Hare Krishnas believe the Moon landings were fake. But we know for certain the Moon is closer than the sun or it wouldn't be able to eclipse the sun by getting in front of it from our perspective. I therefore suspect that the 'quote' from Einstein that he used Indian religions as the basis for his science is complete and utter codswallop, but thanks for showing how religious nuts love to lie, even though you are all so appallingly bad at it that's it's blatantly obvious to everyone except you.

Existence and awareness are concepts. Who says these things as though they are fact? That's insane! What is awareness? Without the knowledge put into you by culture, society and perhaps even in the genes, all the thoughts and experiences that mankind has ever had are up for grabs, you pick up things here and there like an antenna, without all this you'd have no way of being aware of anything or knowing anything of existence.

I am amazed as to why Deepak as not figured out the obvious. That is that we are not our bodies, but our souls. The souls are the true inhabitants of our bodies, it may be very difficult for most of us to understand. The body is nothing more than an advance form of technology, so trying to explain our existence as humans, is stupid. We are all spiritual beings, that means that consciouness exist outside of our bodies. The Dark Matter he speaks about, is us, the spiritual beings whose existence is the opposite of matter, we are nothing and yet we exist. We've engineered bodies so that we can take form and participate in the material world. So there is no connection between the spiritual and biological. So, all else is bull. I know who I am and it's not this body. To understand our existence we must first understand who we are, and humans as such, is not who we are.

It came from us, the spiritual beings who are all GODs, but not all with the same power. The first Universe where very unstable and would disappear and re-appear. The Univ. as it exist today is the manifestation of collective consciouiness all wanting the same thing. We on the other (spirtual we) are nothing bue energy and we are not from this Univ. we are the opposite of everything that is matter and material. Thus, science can explain this material world with physics as you mentioned. However, our world cannot be explain, it's the world of nothing empty space. Perhapps that dark matter they speak about. We brought the material world to existence through consciouness a collective consciouness of very powerful spirits (Gods).

Scientists are now saying matter (or your computer for that matter) is not what it seems to be, but excitation of various (un-see-able or invisible) field quanta. Do we believe this conclusion of quantum field theory? But mathematically it makes perfect sense. Accordingly, this universe has to be an illusion, or Maya, as the spiritualists have asserted for many millennia. So it is time now to grapple with the problem of “how come the invisible fields and from where come the insensible excitations”. Everyone is awaiting answers from people who know how their computer works ;-)

The wonderful thing about spiritual experiences is just what you said in your comment. There is no proof, if there was proof it would not be a spiritual experience. You believe in the spiritual because of a feeling a sense of something a belief that is build on knowing from deep with-in, a trust. You will never be able to see this or prove this and it is this that makes it so easy for people who have not experienced this to mock it. We all have the ability to experience this but some of us choose or are brought up to believe that this is nothing only airy fairy rubbish and so we do not want to be seen as crazy or stupid and we ignore our sixth sense, or gut feelings our spiritual experiences because we want to be part of the intelligent people who can prove things and have solid hard proof we can touch. We miss so much in taking this path, so so much. Open your mind, do not look for proof, allow yourself to believe your gut and follow your heart. I am not selling you this idea, just allow yourself to even think about this and to try it for a while and see what the outcome will be. Good luck.

They have overcome all the distractions externally of form and matter, and have also overcome and transcended all the vacillations of thought and feeling. • @indianmilitary

John Paily NO - Consciousness is NOT measurable, even though both matter and consciousness are manifestations of that "one" in transcendental realm. That "one" could have form. Images of gods discovered by hindus in their higher levels of consciousness and names of gods mentioned in Rig Veda are a good proof that "one" could have form or many forms.
Frequencies of vibrations secreted by Rig Veda hymns (praising hindu gods) when recited in Sanskrit (divine language) are similar to frequencies of vibrations generated by sub atomic particles (Bosons and fermions). Quantum physicists agree that Rig Veda has the complete blueprint of the universe. They also agree that modern science is way behind Vedas of India since modern science has so far discovered very few sub atomic particles.

...At 16:46..Deepak said..."..it was alive,it was AWARE"....Yet another instance that begs the question....is Consciousness THE SAME THING as "Awareness"?...or is this a failure of the English Language?...
A feeling tells me that the meaning extracted from the word "Consciousness" needs to be explained in the context of Language BEFORE we launch into trying to grasp the reality.....
Unfortunately since we do not have the ability to transmit our thoughts directly from mind to mind the tool of Language must be precise.
Something tells me that "consciousness"..as a word..needs to be looked at again that a better intellectual (at least) understanding can be arrived at..

+Glyne Martin there is difference between self awareness and consciousness. Mirror tests prove that only few species have self awareness. Dolphins, some monkeys, humans, elephants. But consciousness encompasses every atom without which nothing can be observed. But perceptual reality differs between different species. Bats don't observe the same thing as humans. If we have to explain in so called modern scientific framework, the differences among humans in the form of individual perceptions, thoughts, body types, we can say that humans brain is just a projector but the nervous system is influenced by different factors like culture, surroundings. So thoughts, perceptions, memories originating in consciousness differ among individuals.
But in hindu/vedic sacred wisdom of India, we call this "KARMA". Individual perceptions, thoughts, memories differ due to past karma because of which we re-incarnate in a family, culture, country, race in sync with our past karma or desires/actions.. Modern science language vaguely explains karma as just memory. But it can be very confusing for western audience from abrahamic religious background. Karma is created by thoughts (ego, desires), actions. We create our own future. Karma is NOT punishment. Karma can be changed by intention (which originates in consciousness). But there are certain things we cannot change by intention in our current life - that is called "Prarabdha karma" (collection of karma from past life) eg Parents, early child hood friends, body types with different percentages of three different individual gunas or characters (1. Rajas (passion, creativity) also called god Brahma in hinduism which is an allegory, 2. Satvik (preserver, balance in life, spirituality) also called as god vishnu in hinduism, 3 Tamas (destruction, drug addicts) also called as god Shiva - The destroyer god in hinduism).
We must understand that both material science (which newton copied) and consciousness philosophy (which einstein copied) originated from the same hindu/vedic source (India) contrary to the popular belief. It is stupidity to expect material science to observe the observer. It is the other way round. Without the observer (consciousness or atman or brahman or divine) observed (matter) cannot be perceived . This is nothing but 7000 yrs old Sankhya darshana of hinduism. Darshana is a sanskrit term meaning vision of nature of ultimate reality (in higher levels of consciousness of hindu/vedic maharishis). It was validated by double slit quantum experiment.
Western definition of philosophy is different from hindu definition of darshana. Western philosophy does not require embodied (manifested) experience in consciousness. It has ego since mind is involved.
      "Albert Einstein"
" When I read Baghavath Gita and reflect about how God created this universe, everything else seems superfluous (Un-necessary). I';ve made the vedas as the main source of information and guide for the purpose of scientific investigations and formation of my theories" eg E=M, space time dilation, Wormhole, Dark energy, gravity lensing, relativity etc etc - all lifted from 7000 yrs of Vedas (hinduism). Vedas were an oral tradition before 5000 BC.
Erwin schrodinger (father of quantum physics)
Schrodinger's biographer Moore, wrote -- “His system - or that of the Upanishads - is delightful and consistent: the self and the world are one and they are all. He rejected traditional western religious beliefs (Jewish, Christian, and Islamic) not on the basis of any reasoned argument, nor even with an expression of emotional antipathy, for he loved to use religious expressions and metaphors, but simply by saying that they are naïve--and will NOT understand Quantum theory and consciousness.
      W. heisenberg - Quantum theory ideas which seemed so crazy made sense only after reading hindu/vedic darshanas

+kashsoldier I'm familiar with the Vedic worldview...having done TM and been a part of the movement for at least 20 years. My issue is not so much linking the truths of the Upanishads to the modern discoveries of Western Science or whatever. It's about Language.
Language shapes our reality more than the average person thinks, therefore correct language becomes critical when discussing the deeper truths behind life.
Consciousness is always interchanged freely with Awareness in everyday speech and this only serves to further obscure the proper understanding of the actual differences between the two *realities.*
There's much vagueness regarding the differences between:
      (1) Consciousness
      (2) Awareness
      (3) Intelligence
      (4) Perception
On the face of it, the average guy might dismiss the need to clarify the differences, but upon deeper scrutiny it's almost dangerous not to do so.....

Because of our degree of intelligence which is more intricate than the animals, we envision the probability of some controlling entity of consciousness functioning behind what we observe. If we dismiss all religious literature and sacred scriptures, we first pretend we know enough to state as fact that no supernatural communication has ever reached our minds or environment. Second, we are left with only the tangible surroundings of perception and knowledge whose limitations dry out into the impersonal stagnation of a lifeless Atheism.
In my studies of numerous religious materials spanning many faiths both ancient and contemporary, all of which are some mixture of truth and fiction, one stands supreme in actually answering a universal, holistic, and non-regional description of reality, God, human history and destiny..........it is known as the URANTIA BOOK. Its exhaustive explanations is no vastly detailed that it builds up to a 2097 page text. In its teachings, it arises from our traditional and previous revelations that have since been altered through time and translations as the distortions created by man's financial and political interest. This book coordinates, adjust, and refines traditional religious concepts into a greater precision of knowledge joining to the intellectual relativity of our time. Although I cannot prove its claim of being physically materialized by angelic techniques as the paramount supernatural revelation for all of humanity, from a 30 year study, I can recommend the effort to investigate its concepts and moral directives.

I think Deepak is losing his reputation by citing parts of various fields of science such as quantum physics, astrophysics, particle physics. I respect his academic credentials and his entrepreneurship. I would spend hours of my time listening to him speaking of Medicine and spend hours listening to Dr. Amit Goswami explain Quantum physics and consciousness.

How can we believe that mater created the mind, and by some miracle, mind created awareness or consciousness, when at the same time we never found that which we call mater in the first place?

How did you came up with such a deep insight? :-) Thank you I will take care from now on not to crush my head in the wall. Just joking man. If one doesnt understand what is being said here, there is nothing i can say that will change that. Oh and btw what created the illusion in you that guys from Balkans are smart?

I was just saying that no one ever found that thing we call matter outside consciousness. No one ever. No one could ever find it. Presuming that there is a "material" world out side consciousness is just a belief not much different than organized religion.

There is experience of life, that is all awareness or consciousness knows, experience. All awareness knows is that it is aware. Aware of thoughts, perceptions, feelings and sensations that is all we know. Is there anything else? We dont know, and can not know. I am not making any statements about anything else.

    • @pepi357bbq

We call it matter because it matters to us. This body is made out of that thing we call matter and this body matters to me that is why i dont sit in the middle of the road, cause all kind of bad stuff will happen to it if I do. But what is that what I call "I" that has a body any way. Does it have the properties of the body and suffer the same faith thats something else. I understand your point, dont think i dont, still all you have listed above can be placed in one of the categories called thoughts, perceptions, sensations and feelings. Memory is a thought also. And what we call "I" is the awareness that knows or is a witness to all of them. That is what this one calls "I" anyway. Most others calls their ego/body "I". Anyway this shift of identity does something to a human, it turns the whole experience of life in a wonderful and loving experience, full of peace and joy. I could not ask any knowledge better than that.

Human beings are eternal beings with a soul. The kingdom of heaven and hell are real places in eternity. After our body dies on earth, a human's soul goes either to the kingdom of heaven or to hell for eternity. The Word of God, The Holy Bible, is the Word of Truth.
The kingdom of heaven is a place where “...God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away” (Rev. 21:4), “...there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light:...” (Rev. 22:5)
Hell is a place where one is eternally separated from God, where “there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth” (Matthew 24:51), where “…the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night…” (Rev. 14:11), “Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched” (Mark 9:48).
The only way to God and to the kingdom of heaven is Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the Lord. Humans carry their sins and cannot take themselves their sins away. Only and only Jesus can take away our sins. Jesus paid for our sins on the cross by becoming the ultimate sacrifice and by dying for us. He conquered death when He was resurrected.
"Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." (John 14:6), "Many will come in my name, claiming, 'I am he,' and will deceive many" (Mark 13:6). Satan, our soul enemy does not want you to know the truth. Satan wants us to worship him, believe his lies, stay in sin and be like him. Satan fell from heaven because of pride, he wanted and wants to be like the Most High. But Only God is God. The Lord God Almighty does Not share Glory. "I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another...". (Isaiah 42:8)
Jesus Christ came to free us so that our sins would be washed away through his blood, we would receive the Holy Spirit and we would have eternal life with God. No one comes to the Heavenly Father but by Jesus Christ.
Believe God's Word to humanity; The Holy Bible, believe that Jesus died for your sins, confess your sins to God, turn away from all sin, accept Jesus as your Lord and Saviour and give your life to Him.

dark energy - consciousness - are just words - words are not things but descriptions of things and are subject to connotation at best -
everything is energy at subatomic level -
perhaps these so called learned people along with everyone else seek the right answers to the wrong questions?

Consciousness is a way of describing life,an idea is an immaterial reality in the physical world until it is made tangible by exerted energy, the invisible God called into existence the things that were not,by his power, the Bible tells us.....believe in Jesus.
