      @@MD-722 She stuck the dismount at the 1989 Konica Cup and the 1990 World Cup, as well. However, she didn't perform the same routine there. This was the one competition where she performed the Rulfova straight out of a layout step-out. In all those other competitions, she performed the Rulfova as an isolated skill. Still very impressive, obviously, but not as mind-blowing as what she did in Stuttgart.

    • @MD-722

      @@findingthatperfectspot4692 She performed the Rulfova out the layout at the 1989 China Cup! That's why I recommend it. I personally want to start a campaign that *_that_* should be used as Yang Bo's signature beam routine. 1989 was the only year she did this routine (to my knowledge) so I should have been clearer about that. But the China Cup is where she did it best!

    • @findingthatperfectspot4692
      @findingthatperfectspot4692 9 месяцев назад +26

      @@MD-722 My apologies. You're right, she did do the Rulfova at the end of a pass at the China Cup! She just switched the order of the passes. At the China Cup, she did the two-layout pass first and the Rulfova pass second. I stopped watching after the first pass, assuming it was the same routine she performed at the Konica Cup (with an isolated Rulfova), but when I watched the rest of the routine, I saw that she did indeed include the Rulfova series, AND stuck the dismount. So I'll support you in your campaign to have this routine recognised as Yang Bo's signature routine! 🙂 I'm glad she nailed it in competition at least once.

    This is just amazing! The beam was so fun to watch back then, when gymnasts included beautiful balletic moves like the gorgeous handstand and splits toward the end. They never do these kind of balance moves anymore because they’re trying to pack so many difficult tricks into the routine that they don’t have time. It’s a real shame too, because I think the fans really miss it.

    • @worldartgym
      @worldartgym  9 месяцев назад +36

      They don’t pack in the graceful handstands and holds because the judges no longer give them proper incentive nor value! It’s really the Code’s fault!

    • @bellroad100
      @bellroad100 9 месяцев назад +23

      @@worldartgym, I know, that’s basically what I meant. You just said it better, LOL! It’s the same in figure skating these days. It’s just jump after jump after jump with less emphasis on artistry than athleticism. Not the athletes’ fault. They need to be competitive to win and that means more difficulty, more tricks, less balletic moves. Kind of sad.

    • @MrsLyraGyrl
      @MrsLyraGyrl 7 месяцев назад +12

      You still see it in rhythmic and acro, as well as artistic. Think about what has changed in artistic. They still must be elegant but also powerful, it is a sport and women/ girls are no longer required to be underdeveloped waifs (although the sport itself does tend to lead to stunted growth), who peak at 17. We are now seeing grown powerful women, whose careers don't end at adulthood.
      There's been the same shift in classical ballet. The prevalence of eating disorders, injuries, and long lasting disabilities meant that a change was needed. Dancers are encouraged to eat more, build muscle, and now movements that seemed exceptional 20 years ago are commonplace, because these ATHLETES are stronger, healthier, and no longer confined by virtue of being girls/women. It's called progress. As someone who fell in love with gymnastics and ballet in the 80's, but had to walk away from all of it due the harm that was being done in the early oughts, I think it's a win. For these incredible athletes, and children like my daughter and sons who look up to them.

      @@MrsLyraGyrl First of, I'm glad you were able to walk away and I'm sorry that you went through this. You're right and I love that female gymnasts can now have a longer career. I don't think there should be such focus on power and strength, there has to be a balance. Nowadays balance beam is just floor performed on the beam and hopefully staying upright - and not an actual routine with flow. It's also partially due to the code, but it's sad to see lack of creativity and BALANCE on the balance beam. Also, something as simple as a swing on the uneven bars now comes with toes that are not pointed, knees apart. It's disappointing to see the shift where the basics aren't there - the best apparatus to see the difference in execution over the years is uneven bars. The last great American gymnast on bars was Nastia and even she suffered from separated legs, which is something commentators used to point out which is not surprising because these were very noticeable in the perfect 10 era. They don't bother pointing this out anymore because virtually everyone except the Chinese have these basic execution errors. It would just be nice if execution was more emphasised upon, which contributes towards the elegance of the routine.

    As a former gymnast we used to do falling exercises and how to recover. She could have recovered that end by not taking tiny steps and taking one big step to balance herself and then bringing her body upright. By staying down is why she kept going forward and also just basic physics...she needed and opposite force to break the momentum. But that routine is just pristine on the beam. But if it is her first international competition much could be happening. Still amazing the dismount takes nothing away from an amazing routine!!

    Ohhhh, maravilloso ejercicio. Lo recuerdo perfectamente!!! Fue tan triste. Se vió la reacción de Dudnik (❤) lamentando el fallo final!
    En la entrega de medallas le caían lágrimas a Yang Bo y a nosotras con ella.
    Había clavado el ejercicio en la general (AA), llevaba varias competiciones haciendp la salida genial... Y falló en la final de campeonato del mundo!!!! Luego estiró, creció, y a Barcelona 92 ya no llegó tan bien. Siempre lamenté que esta gimnasta no tenga un oro en barra en un competición de este nivel.
    Y Dudnik también falló la salida en esta final, cuando también venía de clavar la triple pirueta, y perdió el oro. Al final, se impusieron las rumanas. Daniela Silivas, excelente gimnasta, ganó por no fallar porque en esta final estas Yang Bo y Dudnik sobresalían. Así es la gimnasia.
    Pero este ejercicio ha quedado para la historia, para mi, hasta la salida... El mejor de la historia. Me encanta.

    That dismount after that awesome, perfect routine was heartbreaking. Having said that, it's often the little things that separate the champions from the field. No doubt she'll be competing in other events where she can vindicate herself, but the bottom line is that for every podium winner there has to be several losers. People who've worked years to get here yet have to go home empty handed. Every athlete there, win or lose should take great pride that they were chosen from a field of many to stand up and represent their respective country as the best of the best. This young lady is young, with many years ahead of her to vindicate herself and show the world she has what it takes to conquer the world in her sport. Keep your head up girl. I wish her luck

    Such a beautiful routine, including the dismount but the points would be taken off from her low chest and the 5-6 large steps she took. It would have taken away about 1.9 + as the steps were large. Still an amazing routine, definitly something to be proud of. Her confidence just makes it look ten times better. Well done! 🎀💗

      In gymnastics, a "stuck" landing demonstrates balance, control, and showcases athletic ability. It demonstrates to the judges that they are finished with their routine and ready to be scored. Whether or not a gymnast sticks a landing can make or break their routine. To some degree, everything impressive she did amounts to very little to the judges because she did not stick her landing.
