I think the same about everything you wrote. They were the best couple. The way their inexistent relationship slowly grow up into love was amazing. I think that if the writers would've started showing their relationship growing up since the beginning or a little more Dan/Blair interaction since season 1 the fandom would've love this couple. Exactly. Same reason I grew to hate Serena's character. She became more and more like Lily. Manipulative, less sweet and caring. She was a total flake and had no goals, interests etc other than shopping and boys. I wish they had developed her otherwise she shouldn't have ended up with Dan. I loved Dan and Blair together from the start. They had the banter, wit, and intelligence. She liked him when they were scheming together and they had more in common than some of the pairings. Plus Season 4/5 Dan was amazing. Then they had to ruin his character in season 6 and killed the D/B relationship. It felt so uncomfortable to watch.
The guy Leighton ended up marrying (the girl who plays Blair) is literally Dan in real life. He's kind of hipster - y and effortlessly hot, much like Dan. He was also on the OC, I believe. I think that's why this relationship works on camera. He's her type in real life. It definitely translates on camera.

Their love was realistic and they were the only relationship where they would have been happy, healthy and whole for a really long time.
