To commemorate 4 1/2 seasons of Gossip Girl, and more importantly, Dair, I have compiled to be what I THINK are the best 30 Dair moments thus far. I define a "moment" as being either a scene that best defines their relationship or a significant turning point in their relationship, and a "moment" can entail 2-3 different scenes that are all tied together in some way.
20. "The Age of Dissonance" 2.18
I HAD to include this scene in the top 20. Their banter is golden!
19. "The Townie" 4.11
They already act like an old married couple lol. I also liked how Blair points out all the things Dan is willing to do for Serena, and she is the only one who points out that he should give it a rest already.
18. "While You Weren't Sleeping" 4.16
If it was this hard for Blair to admit to needing Dan, imagine how hard it will be for her to say "I love you."
17. "Damien Darko" 4.13
How can such a casual scene be so rich and fun to watch? Dan and Blair don't need a scandal or "epic" story arc to make them interesting. Just give them some coffee and something to debate about and you have good tv.
16. "Pret-A-Poor J" 2.08
Again some really epic foreshadowing on Dan's part.
15. "Damien Darko" 4.13
The first time Blair admits to their "fake friendship." I think this scene also shows Dan a different side of Blair. She works hard to get what she wants and is really trying to be a better person.
14. "The Unblairable Lightness of Being" 3.18
DAN WANTS WHAT'S BEST FOR BLAIR. And the shot of Eleanor and Cyrus doing shots with Dan is priceless as well.
13. "Empire of the Son" 4.17
It is a bittersweet scene. They both really want to be friends, but neither wants to admit it.
12. "The Kids Are Not Alright" 4.12
The entire scenario really sets up the Dair scene. Blair notices Dan and they both pick up on their unspoken problems. Each offers the other advice and Blair learns something. A very good Dair scene that touches on every thing that makes them great.
11. "Jewel of Denial" 5.03
It seems that Blair keeps turning to Dan and here she finally admits why. Maybe one day she will actually thank him.

why is it that Blair seems to be a better person when she was with Dan? You could actually see how smart and nice she is. Her love for Chuck only makes her so weak and make silly decision
She was defined as smart from the beginning cos of her grades and schemes but with Dan we see her as a true intellectual

You only saw that with Dan because that’s really all they had in common. Movies and books. She was always smart from the beginning and idk why it’s made to seem that she didn’t share intellect with chuck. Whenever she talked about a movie or book he was right there with her . He always could converse with her about whatever she was talking about. It was simply that that wasn’t ALL they spoke about. That was literally the only thing she and Dan spoke about, movies / books
Danii Faith movies and books were literally the only thing they talked about? ... except exhibitions, fashion, ballet, animal conservations, journalism, their fears, their flaws, their aspirations ... they talked about a lot of different things actually but in an open healthy way not a competitive, manipulative way. They didn’t scheme they didn’t fight over each other like property. They were true equals and bettered each other. How people can think Chuck was a better option for her I’ll never ever understand. He literally threw a punch at her and traded her body like she was a prostitute for a hotel.
passley88 chuck and blair understood each other the most and dan always wanted attention. he wanted to be known as the “better guy” and always needed the credit to show blair how good he was for her. chuck on the other hand simply did things just because he loved blair and wanted to make her happy. he didn’t feel the need to have to have credit
It's so FUNNY when you look back they were ALWAYS friends. They have the smartest and funniest conversations on the show. I hate how they've made Nate so useless!
Ikr. We didn't even get the love triangle between Serena, Blair and Nate. They made him so irrelevant that you wouldn't miss him if he didn't show up that episode 😪

The dialogues between Blair and Dan are so witty and brilliantly delivered.
Blair and Dan actually made so much sense together, they made each other better people. Chuck and Blair was just a hot, beautiful mess, but not enough substance

Yea looking back on the show the writers should of put them together for the long term instead of having them be in toxic relationships with other people lol.
Nothing about Chuck and Blair was beautiful though, but GG painted it that way and romanticized abuse unfortunately, and made people buy into it.
@@LydiaIsSweet I don't know that I agree that the show made people buy into it, so much as people made the show buy into it. Stephanie Savage is/was sort of a protégé to Josh Schwartz. Josh is known to look at fan message boards going back to The OC days, and it wouldn't surprise me if Stephanie did the same thing during GG. The primary demo for Gossip Girl is teenagers, and I think we can all agree that teenagers generally don't have the life experience to know what a stable relationship is. They want flash and passion, and they got that with Chuck and Blair. The rest of us recognize how shitty their relationship is, and it definitely puts a sour note on things when I do a re-watch.
The actor who played Dan actually shipped Dair and that's probably why he acted more in love with Blair then ever did with Serena

Penn and Leighton were on board to give Dan & Blair a try because they actually get along nice as friends and colleagues.

The scene at 6:00 made me realize how better of a support/friend Dan would have been to Blair from the beginning - better friend than Serena, easy.
As a Chair fan I will say this: the slow burn of their relationship, the tentative friendship in s4 and Dan's unwavearing devotion in s5 is the best damn writing this show ever had.
is it bad that everytime i binge this great show i skip season 6? just overall such a disappointment. these two had so much chemistry it makes my blood boil that it just ended. with no real explanation .

From the way the seasons developed, I'd say Chair was supposed to be like the beautiful, young and lustful love, while Dair was supposed to be end game. Too bad the fans were hating so much on them... they were great.
Saw GG for the first time this year and loved it right up to the S5 finale then boom it went to crap. If I watch again I won't watch S6 either. So many issues with it for all the characters & plot lines
I generally watch seasons 3, 4 and 5 on a loop. Seasons 1, 2 and 6 are useless to me.

Could not agree more! Dan and Blair actually had lots of common and he was really good for her. He wasn’t toxic like Chuck (although I still do like him tbh) but Dan and Blair shouldve been end game!

I like to think her mocking tone and his bitter resentment was a great platform for all their sexual tension in season FIVE.
I wish their relationship was developed better and earlier, they have the best character interactions together
Me too and I wish Blair finally realize how abusive Chuck is and actually faces her insecurities because if she I believe she would've realized that Dan was the one for her.
Wdym their relationship was developed brilliantly up until s5, but it was ruined by having a messy Louis/Blair/Chuck ordeal when they put them together and also the out of character shit they pulled in the transition between s5-6 where Dan out of nowhere cheated on Blair, Serena acted crazy possessive and Blair became her worst self again. I think those things really soured everything and made no sense. If the writers had stuck to an idea like Dan/Blair all the way through they would've been best couple hands down..
Their friendship was supposed to be developed in season 1. Ep 104, when Dan approached Blair in the hallway, that was supposed to be the first scene that start their friendship. But then Chuck and Blair happened with Serena and Dan doing well, the writers wanted to milk that out. There was supposed to be a scene in season 1 where Blair ends up winning a competition and no Serena no Chuck no Nate since somehow everyone was mad at her but Dan came and supported her. The writers included this as a scene in Dan’s book because they say they were still attached to that lost Dan Blair storyline. Stefanie Savage are actually really invested in it at first but pressure from the producters made her give Dan and Blair up.

Blair doesn’t listen to Serena even if she’s her best friend. Blair listens to Dan to take a risk. Yeah she’s more truthful with Dan even before the writers started to put them together.
what’s crazy is that the fandom always hated dan (no idea why) but blake and leighton had the best chemistry w him. i feel like he really was one of the best actors on the show

It's funny how the show kept forcing the idea of Blair & Serena being bff's down our throat, but anyone who pays close enough attention knows that the only real, healthy and genuine friendship she ever had was with Dan

On the other hand, it made Dan and Blair's relationship feel very natural to me. They wanted a certain thing for so long, only to get a little older and a little wiser and realize that what they wanted really wasn't what they needed. I still can't believe they made Blair into a more complex and interesting character and made Chuck not a total shit heel, only to reverse course and fuck both characters up in the end. I just don't get how you do that.
the thing that makes it painfully obvious that these two should be a couple is that they know each other, the good and the bad, and while that is the same case for chair, i would add that unlike chair, they're fun, and have come so far as individuals since s1, giving each other a little nudge along the way i.e - the car scene about dans wiriting/dan telling blair about herself regularly, even if they don't have a sexual relationship, they will be friends for a long while. It's seth and summer.

BUT just look at how much they have in common! Their talkes on culture and art are inspiring - they understand each other so well! The same code here. And they have great chemistry in terms of caring, loving and mutual understanding.I just looked at this with another eyes THEY ARE PERFECT together. I mean-without the scenario even)

Season 6 is so boring with these two not being friends or together. Love their friendship so much. Very cute moments together.
I hate when they turned the best platonic relationship romantic in S5. Dan and Blair were really great as friends, they have the banters that make them really entertaining.
Fun fact: That first scene, the play, the producers found out that the script had reached over the episode time limit, so on shooting day, they had to cut down some scenes. The scenes were supposed to be Dan and Blair on the play with annedote type lines on stage, and the lines of Blair confronting Dan was supposed to be shot backstage. The producers asked to cut the play scene but the director proposed they mold the 2 scenes together and that beautiful funny effective scene happened. The director also applauded Leighton Meester and Penn Badgley for taking up the challenge on that last minute change. Leighton even said behind the scenes that “this is gonna be so fun you guys”.

I love Chuck and Blair - but tbh their love, while passionate, is immature, messy, and toxic. They work well together, but they also bring out the worst in each other. IRL they are a couple that would ultimately not last. They would either break up one final time, or one of them would end up dead. 😅 Blair and Dan have a less exciting dynamic - but it’s just as romantic and it’s healthy. They understand each other and they actually build each other up. Blair is not nearly as emotionally strung out as she is with Chuck. She actually focuses her energy into positive things for her life as opposed to schemes and drama. DanxBlair were honestly the best choice.
Dan and Blair brought the best out of each other. You can see how Blair's demeanor changes over the course of the show the longer she's around him. She's more positive and nice and at her intellectual best with Dan. Their witty banter and the palpable tension and growing attraction were my favorite. They should've ended up together. In real life, most people would root for them to be together.
Dan fuckin Humphrey is always going to be the main man of GG for me. Dude dated the both queens and ended up marrying one of’em, excelled in his career, made his way into upper East side. It’s something we all can relate with Humphrey’s journey.

During the series you can really see how the show/writers were influenced by fan reactions. D & B go from being well written and longing for each other to having weird & boring dialogue then later after they break up Blair hates him. Why??

I still remember the day, I opened tv and it was the sixth season first episode. Just the time the gang goes over Serena to make her comeback. It was the first time I saw GG, well I knew GG but I never watched it properly until that day. I saw Blair and Dan just talking and I was like "Damn these two should be one of the couples in the show." and when I learned they weren't end game I was like T.T
Honestly I would have gone for a spin-off based on these two, developing their lives together. But it won’t happen.

I left Season 6 because I was so disappointed and it was stupid. Many people did. The show could’ve been more popular if they made good realistic choices..

We may haven’t gotten the Dair that we deserved but we actually have a chance in the new gossip girl with Obie and Audrey. Let’s hope the writers can redeem themselves with the Obrey pairing and finally get the Dair ending we deserve.
