I just imported a physical copy of this, and was delighted to see you had already uploaded a review for the game years ago. Hope to see you back soon, SoS!
Nice review! I would like to mention the heavy influence of Axelay on this title. Sturmwind in some mechanics feels like a euroshmup version of Konami's SNES classic!
Sturmwind is often the reason i dust off my Dreamcast and ASCII stick. I'm not a fan of shmups simply because i find them too difficult for me. Sturmwind on the other hand is always fun to play. Amazing how much developer's love went into this game. I think it is one of the best looking and possibly the most polished Dreamcast homebrew game.
My first tought was: Wow, a very nice looking Version of Axelay, but Sturmwind plays very different. The Power-Up system is very tacticle, but can be annoying. The Visuals are great, but sometimes it´s very hard to tell what is happening on the screen. So you never know exactly what did hit you. Beside from that, Sturmwind is a great game with fantastic music and gameplay. The Game have tons of Levels, awesome bosses and a very washed-up scoresystem. Fans of R-Type, Einhänder, Axelay or Gate of Thunder will love it. By the way at 2:35, what game you mean? Xenomorph X?
This game looks amazing beautiful graphics, I had the Dreamcast and I never seen it in the shop where I live the developer's look like thay have put there heart in making this game please let there be a bit of an e shop sale thank you or a demo.
Still don’t think it’s made it across yet. So many great older shmups not made it to PS4 that have released on other consoles, has me stumped as to why not. Sturmwind, Razion, Devil Engine and Crimson Clover come to mind. Then there’s also the more recent ones like Live Wire’s re-releases of Cave’s titles and plenty more that look like they’ll stay on Switch only from a console perspective.
Say, what makes a Euro-shmup a Euro-shmup? Just it being made in Europe? Is Jamestown a US-shmup then? Genuine question, I'm not exactly knowledgeable when it comes to shmups myself.
It's not very clearly defined, to be honest, but check out this thread and you should get the basic idea (also, there are some pretty funny comments in there): shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=16743&start=0
What exactly is an "Euro shmup"? I've been trying to find something on RUclips like "top Euro shmup games" and there's basically nothing. Also, I've run up against varying definitions. I really want to learn about them and try playing some of the best but all I can really find are shmup junkies, such as yourself, espousing how much they dislike them.

Your audio Commentary sounds very good in this review. Loud and clear. :-)
Keep up the good work, boy-boy!
I own this and Sine Mora Ex agreed the graphics are stunning

That other game is Sine Mora Ex. Also a kind of euroshmuppy hori, and also with very pretty visuals.
Thanx. I got this on Switch but never got into the game. Not my favorite.
Why do euro shmups always get the visibility wrong?!

Does the game save when you complete a level?
Not exactly. There's a stage select though, which allows you to start from any stage you've previously reached.
This looks like a modern Gradius

Sorry, but this looks boring. I need some intense action when it comes to shmups
