Thanks for the reply. I realise it’s not up to you but it’s pretty disappointing. Not that I’d be troubling the top of the leaderboards but it it’s good for motivation Edit- the games great
Been playing this on PC for months, and haven't tired of it yet. Looking forward to picking this up on Switch when it shows up on the shop here in the US tomorrow!
This is an easy grab for me. I was waiting on a Switch release after I played the Steam demo. It seems like a great enough game to become a part of history in physical form. I'm double dipping for that. Great review as always, you are one of the best IMO.
I 1cc'ed the game in mild difficulty yesterday after 3 days obsessed with it (I can only dream of 1ccing the intense difficulty one day) but I was so happy with it. This game is dope af! Thank you for your work @boghogSTG I LOVE: The shmup tutorial The 3 loves max system The variety of 2nd weapons The 'inversion' of bombing and super The music (stage 5 is my fave) The cohesive pink red color scheme and the bullets visibility TLDR: This game is dope af. Must buy on the Switch. I'm only waiting for the leaderboards.
Thansk for the review, i got that Shmup itch again and was looking for new stuff. now its between this and Drainus. Just like you said in your Video, the game looks good but static. the whole time i was thinking "the style looks like crimson clover without the aoccasional cool background stuff happening like flying through clouds etc"
I feel the balls to the wall approach of GunVein is what won me the most. Both in the musical and visual department. So I appreciate your sentiment and yet I would have liked the game less if it was the way you would have liked it.
Looks like a fantastic port and I've double dipped, and now that Star Gagnant is on pre-sale with a demo I'm getting my Star Soldier nostalgia fix first then coming back to this. Great review too!
Played it on steam deck for months, it’s an amazing game. I agree with the review 100%, it is not perfect or an absolute masterpiece, but it’s the best new thing since Crimson Clover
Loved Gunvein when it came out on Steam! Boghog nailed that sweet bullet hell gamefeel that most CAVE players would be accustomed to. It's pacing and enemy waves also have a similar feeling to SDOJ, but at least it's not as evil lol. For sure will pick this one up again on Switch so I can put even more hours into it!
I guess NGDev games are doing okay in the console port side of things If they are releasing another port on switch. Hopefully this game gets a physical release. Either way, I’ll add this to my wish list.
I really want to enjoy this in handheld tate mode but I still haven’t found a good controller option. Currently using the Flip Grip and some Kinvoca (one of many Chinese clone brands) joy cons but the form factor and connectivity is very lacking. Do you have any other recommendations?
Instant purchase for me when it goes live! Been looking forward to this for ages. Just a shame I'll only have 1 day to play it before Zelda comes out 😂
No online scoreboard? This is very demotivating, the lack of something like this is what made me stop playing mushihimesama on switch, but knowing that there is online on steam version makes the situation worse when the price on the switch is higher
@@russellgolden7546Yeah, as of last night the eShop listing mentions online leaderboards but when I go to the Leaderboards option on the main menu, all that shows up on my Switch are the local leaderboards on my system. Is the eShop listing wrong or is there some counterintuitive way to access them?
@@ShmupsOnSwitch well on the eShop here it says Direct Download but when i click on it nothing happens doesn't do anything usually it would go to where you put your eShop card info but nope
Ngdev just doesn’t get enough credit, this looks phenomenal and I haven’t even tried it it, but will be picking it up digitally for sure. I’d love a physical but looks to be impossible to find atm. I own Razion physically and that’s it, gunlord digitally as well
Hmm, curious. Maybe they activate later. Most times I've got an early review code for something though I could still see the other reviewers etc on the board. I guess we'll see soon enough...
@@boghogSTGI’m in California and also can’t seem to see any online leaderboards - just local ones - when I open Leaderboards on the main menu. Are they coming later or did I miss something? Leaderboards aside, I’ve been enjoying playing the Normal Mode quite a bit. Thanks for your work on the game. :) As far as the Mission Mode, the STG Basics took a long time to complete when playing with the a basic Joy Con because of how many placement targets you have to hit in the re-streaming section. I struggled with the Joy Con for around 30 minutes on that section - even though I could complete 7-12 targets pretty early on. Even with a 3rd party pro controller, that section took about 8 minutes the next time - even though I could get 7-12 targets within the first minute. Decreasing the number of movement targets for the restreaming section could make for a less frustrating first impression. :)
@@perlichtman1562 Yeah there's no online leaderboards yet sadly, hopefully they'll come later but that'll be down to NGdev Happy to know that you're enjoying it! The tuts are pretty difficult and risk putting players off but I'm gonna have to insist on a forceful approach for teaching those fundamental skills & take the risk. It's a kind of a ripping-the-bandaid-off type of thing. Either way the pain will be real but it's probably better if players experience it in a low stakes, focused-environment with a clear goal, rather than feeling frustrated or feeling like they don't know how to improve later in the game
@@boghogSTG Got it. At least the eShop listing has been updated to only mention local leaderboards so hopefully new players will know what to expect for the moment. I can respect the difference of opinion on the tutorials. I appreciated them in general and thought they were a good addition to your RUclips video series - I just thought the re-streaming section would benefit from having fewer targets required to move on. But again, I respect the difference of opinion. To be fair, this isn’t the only game where I had some issues with mission mode design. On Sophstar for Xbox I have the number one scores in multiple online leaderboards and am in the top 10 in all but one (where I’m in the top 20), yet I still find some of the missions to be either more difficult or longer than necessary. So it might be something that bothers me more than others.
Good looking game although the price is a little steep for me at the minute. I've spent an absolute fortune on video games recently Zelda/Prime Remastered/Mazinger Z/Terra Flame and a pre-order for Star Gagnat all in the same week.
Yes, I forgot to cover that. It's a kind of interesting feature since you can get the first extends quite quickly, but they're not really helpful because you haven't died yet. On the other hand, it means your run doesn't feel torpedoed if you do take a hit early on.
Thanks for the review & kind words! Any sorta comparison to titans like Crimzon Clover and CAVE is a huge W in my book
The game looks and sounds beautiful, thanks for such a high quality game. Gonna be picking it up today :)

Good thing about a game like this is can act as a nice refresher between sessions of something longer, like a Zelda game.

Be careful of how you critique the graphics in a NGDEVTEAM game. The owner of the company has tantrums.
