My comments in this video regarding scoring are not actually fully accurate. After further play, it's obvious the close-range attacks are more important than I initially thought. Also, there's a mechanic I missed completely whereby using focus shot leads to more orbs.
A lot of people were bummed over the original Ghost Blade on DC. It dropped frames instead of slowdowns and was panned quite hard by some of the die-hards. The Ghost Blade HD remake boosted its reputation.
What broke the game for me was its seemingly random nature at times. Bosses have patterns and attacks that you might not see 4/5 fights. Like the 1st bosses single, fast bullet shot which i still don't know what exactly triggers it. Sometimes it's used several times in a row, sometimes not at all. And all while employing the same strategies to down the boss. Or bullet cancelling. Usually, it cancels everything but green bullets...unless it doesn't and it cancels them as well (Like the spinning towers in Stage 2). While definitely not the hardest shmup, it has some cheap shots here and there i feel yo simply can't prepare for. Maybe i'm just too spoiled by having played too much Touhou lately, which usually has little to no randomness to it. Ghost Blade HD is certainly not a bad game. But i wouldn't really praise it this highly either. It's an OK romp with some fun visual chaos that lacks a bit in cohesion.
The first boss changes it's attacks once you destroy both of the giant cannons that float by it's sides. If you destroy both cannons fast enough, it won't use the double red arrow super fast projectile attack, nor will it use that multi-blue laser attack that it does back to back that's really hard to dodge. And those spinny enemy things that it shoots at you will instead spawn in front of you and explode into green orb projectiles if you don't destroy them quick enough.
Finally - I was waiting for this Review. I watched a playthrough and it looked kinda easy / boring. Very interested in what you have to say about the game :D
Man for example in the last minute of this video of the blue ship boss, has no animation at all its a static graphic that moves left to right on a constant speed, show how little went into the game, looks poor and cheap IMO. You can spot this everywhere afterwards on static enemies.

I personally feel like Ghost Blade HD is one of the more underrated shmups out there.
Thanks for always being on top of these reviews! Super appreciate it.
3:48 Ummm, what kind of stage is this exactly?

I would really like to subscribe, unfortunately I don't think I can tolerate the poor audio quality of your voice over.
