Super stoked to see this updated rig rundown. Kirk records at our studio so we have seen all of the different tone changes he has made in the last few years. That Quad Cortex is an absolute beast and is super portable. I actually helped him pick out the power amp. Lol. Great video that we can 100% confirm is accurate. 🤘🤘
Awesome! Thanks so much for hoping in the comments here! Pumped to have the perspective of someone who has been in the trenches with him. Must be a blast working with Kurt! PS - Nice pick on the SD power amp!
Always loved how Kirk has always endorsed digital gear as a kemper user myself and kirk being a huge influence its awesome to see him embrace the digital \m/
We see sooo many of our members going digital and hybrid these days. It's really a golden age of gear and the options are endless on both fronts. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Oh wow I never thought I'd see such an old skool metal MASTER like Kirk go digital. Makes you wonder if Dimebag would of went digital if he was still with us...
I know, right?! The tones he was getting from the Neural were incredible. Can't help but think that Dimebag might be doing something similar, he was quite progressive.
the man the legend Kirk Windstein when I saw the quad cortex and not a randall and an mt2 it made me weird but I remembered it doesn't matter what he plays on this guy rocks
I was suprised to see kirk go digital but it makes sence. Hes always ran a super simple rig. Those 80s Randall's are showing there age. Second to last time i saw them Matt was still running the old randalls on his side of the stage and actually one of them went out half way through the set. Simple is always better.
Yeah, it's hard to dispute how simple and effective a Neural rig is these days. The old amps are great but it's hard to argue against how easy a Quad Cortex makes life on the road! Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
He just said "I dont believe in all these boutique amps, ive tried a bunch of them out and they all sound terrible" hahah His tone always sounds killer man.
thats why over the under sounds so shit, kirk and pepper should have been sticked to randall, nola and 2 are masterpieces soundwise. orange , bogner etc sucks , randall is the sound to go for nola music!
@@Bilsuburbians its only sad to see if you like bad tones that only hold nostalgic value. Nostalgia is for regressive types. Look out the windshield not the rear view boys. If you're using a metal zone as distortion after age 16 youre fucking up and need to do some research
We know. We said that in the opening. When you interview someone in a tour bus with an idling engine on a major roadway, it's sort of impossible to get it studio quality.
@@juanvaldez5422he actually hasnt used those Randalls that much in quite a while. Definitely not at the studio with us. People seem to think the amp is the secret to his tone, but it's his hands.

The quad cortex is boring and lame. Modelers are boring and lame. Don’t blow smoke up our ass with the fake thing. You like it because it’s to travel with fine. Don’t give me the “just as good” cope. Especially from a caveman guitarist like this. 😂 For the record the Bogner Uberschall is a boutique amp.
@@buyorborrowmusic didn’t say anything about the sound. I said it’s boring and lame. You gonna pose with a wall of quad cortexes? If they were really so great they wouldn’t just be copying tube amps.

Really like the way that you go back and forth between the straight interview and the rundown.
Thanks so much for the kind words! Glad you enjoyed our chat with the man himself.
When I first heard Down NOLA I couldn’t believe how insane the tone was. The guitars on that record are some of my favorite ever.
Absolutely legendary!
What a great interview! In Kirk we trust!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it. It was a blast to sit down with him and see his rig in action.
Love Kirk! Thank you for the interview. Amazing!
He's an absolute legend!
You said it… LEGEND!!! 🤘🏼
Finally another Kingdom of Sorrow album! 🤘
Hellyes man!
🤘
Kirk's guitar tone is as godly as ever (seen Crowbar earlier this year, and a few times before that). Also stoked for some new KoS 🤘
100%
Living legend.
Absolutely
Great talk!
Kirk is AWESOME. ❤
Thanks!
coolest chillest dude of all time

100% i bet he would have
Dime would have, and he would have still dialed it in to sound like him.
There’s something about getting older and realizing, the heaviness isn’t in the amp gain. A little less gain can be just as heavy, with more clarity.
Can we like this comment more than once? 10000%
Kirk is the best. Glad he talked about the Quad Cortex patch/models he's using.
Yep! It was great to get an in-person deep dive. Glad you enjoyed it!

Digital or not, it sounded killer! And yes, he could make anything rock.

What power amp is he using?
What tuning does he use in crowbar
The Wah pedal that engages itself sounds like the Steve Vai/Morley Bad Horsie Wah. All you do is step on it, and boom.
He just said "I dont believe in all these boutique amps, ive tried a bunch of them out and they all sound terrible" hahah His tone always sounds killer man.
Meanwhile he’s playing a model of a boutique amp and loves it.

Preach!
What exactly are boutique amps?
Dumble, victory, rev, diezel.
When the cavemen of metal start using quads you know the tide is turning.... we'll keep the cave fire burning until you make your return Kirk 🖐️🔥
lol! Right on. Nothing wrong with an old-school half-stack.

no more Metal Zone into Randall....
Kinda sad to see that, but the world is changing and we have to bear with it.
Thought exactly the same. These rig rundowns just aren't as interesting without pedals.

Funny that he didn't even mention it since it seems like it was a big part of the early sound.
That is actually been gone for quite some time. I think it's great that someone finally posted an updated rundown.

Get Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein!
Chris Kosnik!
damn you know its really the end of amps when Kirk is running a quad cortex.

Start Playing Randall Amps with Down again! PLEASE ! Bogner, Orange Amp sound sucks big balls!
I’m sure he will read this and immediately take your advice . Afterword , he will get back with you to see if you approve.
Down sticks out in my memory for one of the best live guitar tones I have heard. That show they were playing Gibsons through Orange.
I'm not exactly sure Randall is still in business.
