  • We bought the cicerone book.
We hiked and camped the route following the stages in the Cicerone book but sometimes stopping a bit short or a bit after a stage end so as we could wild camp.
In these videos I try to show the route and places to wild camp as well as a few giggles we had along the way.
This is episode 3 of 7

There's beauty in that moody weather, where you can hike and somehow struggle with inconvenient conditions. It looks harsh, but this is pure nature. The great thing is - you can enjoy the views alone. No people out there. Only nature. And later small trip to the town 🙂 Thank you for sharing the video 👏🔥👏

Thank you. I Think your summary is accurate, well said. It was a tough but great few hours with not too much distance.

Thank you. Portree is lovely and the colourful buildings are a well known photo opportunity. We really did love Skye.

Hi Guys, loving this showing the contrast between the quietness of the hills (apart from the wind, haha) and the hustle and bustle of the town. You can’t get much more fresh fish than straight off the boat then straight in to the little fish shop. 😋🎣
The chippy looked like they were doing a roaring trade. 😃
All the best guys, keep it going.

Hi Dave the lower chip shop with the queues is possibly the best chippy in the world.

Good easy day without the packs but the bog and wind keeps it fair, Tubba and Map Girl! It's great to get some fish and chips and a pub stop to end the day too 👍🍺🍺😎

Hi snowy. Walking without a big pack is a nice change and none dehydrated food on the trail is always a treat. I rarely get a takeaway away. I have enjoyed the start of your swcp. Good on ya.

Even the day I walked that the wind was howling! It was a tough little section and we had no packs either! You didn't show it in the video but I hoped you saw the signboards about the dinosaurs on the beach at Bearreaig Bay near the hydro power plant that was built in 1952. I remember walking there thinking clearly it reminded me about the game Myst on the PC from the 90s!!!😂 Loved to see Lisa running free without a pack in her natural habitat. Lmao😂 Beats teaching right! Lol

Hi Iain. Yes we walked to the end by the gate for the dinosaur foot prints as that was the way the map told us to go but it was locked. We had previously seen foot prints at staffin bay and at duntulm so we felt ok about not going down there.
Did you go down to the beach there?
The footprints we saw elsewhere were not too clear and if we didn't know what we were looking for I would never have thought they were dinosaur prints, just strange holes in the rock. But they have been verified and it is quite amazing.
I think that stretch must always be windy. It was hard work.
It does make quite a difference with no pack and I can see the attraction of going from BnB to BnB but for now I'm still hooked on the tent.
I've never played myst. I know about space invaders and PAC man .
Have a good week, I've just come back from Coventry to see some friends.

No, I didn't go down to the beach but the signboards there to read were cool. I like you slept in the tent on that trip but I stayed at Flodigarry where you pitched and walked sections without a full pack getting the bus back and forth each day until Sligachan. Looking forward to finding out if you took the Big Step route!. I wanted to but my partner didn't , so I missed seeing that.

Hi Iain. Well the bad step? I don't want to ruin it for you but a clue would be I'm ridiculously scared of heights.
It was a bit disappointing not to see the dinosaur prints but I doubt I would have found them. I've been foot prints hunting in two other places in Skye and had to re visit both sites and only found them when I knew what I was looking for and exactly where. It's a mystery to me how the experts can definitely say, yes that's a dinosaur print.
I guess the Skye trail is doable by returning by bus each day and hitching worked for us at the end of stage two.
      Taxis are too expensive.

Hi Glyn. Let's go for the silly walks but spring lamb is cute. Portree is a very nice place, very touristy but quite calm. The fish and chips shop is one of the best ever. Good to hear from you. When are you off to Switzerland. ?
