Oh boy I noticed the awful responses under Cachi's tweet, i never liked those people who blame omocat for everything that happends it's honestely awful and dumb
@Sunnysideanyway true, but there have been cases where I've seen stories of those who have been followed, it's scary how people can be just because of something that can easily be resolved just by communicating
Both sides seems to have made mistakes when it comes to working together. Omocat like they stated never should have let Melon get to a point of over work that they were crashing and getting sick, that's just bad management. But Melon had a responsibility to figure out what to do once they did fall sick, you can't just work when you feel better when you have deadlines to keep. If you stopped doing the majority of the work (Albeit for a good reason that needed to be handled) then you're not going to be as deserving as the others who do more work then you do. And the whole contract situation was badly handled when Omo decided to ask the other employees about the royalties when they had no reason to be included at all in that decision. But Melon also forgoes said royalties. Honestly the whole thing just seems like a employee with regrets and resentment and a manager who maybe wasn't the best but not the worst off here, other employees have spoken out against Melon's conduct as well and in my opinion everyone is responsible for something. This should have been held in private and honestly just makes Melon look like they're out to hurt Omocat for something that they handled poorly.
@@diondredunigan5282 I did see that but honestly I don't know how much we can trust Melon, I don't know how the blocking system works and I'm not all that invested in this issue any further. I've never played the game, I'm just someone who gets invested into drama from time to time. Either way both parties made mistakes. I would just offer a compensation for bad management and lost of royalties (Even if Melon forgoed said royalties themselves but the way it was handled was terrible) and make some kind of amends. But I'm not Omocat XD
"Can't work, I 'eepy uwu" Should omocat have put their foot down? Maybe. If you said that to your boss in any other job, they wouldn't care and just fire you, especially after refusing to get a doctor's note.
Wow melon kid needs to just be a melon adult. It turns out they just wanted to work extra for no reason, for some reason went to some extent and then burned themselves out I have no idea how that happens
I relate to Omocat on her not wanting to put her foot down on one of her workers because if I had someone like Melon working on my web series, I would have definitely choose not to let them off sooner then I should cause I wouldn´t want to ruin someone´s hardworking enthusiasm either though I also would advise them to at least take a break.
Omocat did advise her to take a break tho and melon declined it. That is all on Melon. If I overwork myself I am doing so out of my own volition. if I get sick because of that then I have nobody to blame other than myself. Had melon just worked at a normal rate and took breaks then she would be fine. But she didn't and refused to do so. With that being said she is a adult a grown woman not a baby and Omo is her god damn boss not her mother. With that being said I agree 1000% with keeping this situation professional and letting her know that she did this to herself. If you have a quota to make and you keep overworking yourself to make it pass the point that is needed then when you crash but need to make another quota the boss is well within their right to be angry with you considering that the crash was most likely predicted to happen. This case is just Melons arrogance affecting the team as a whole. When developing a game there is no solo play. You are working as a team so always be aware your problems can and will affect your team.
@@BoostedBonobo101 I know that she told Melon to take a break, just saying that I relate to it when she said that she maybe should have fired them sooner due to them overworking themselves and all that, I agree that there was no reason for Melon to be complaining on the internet about her being ¨treated unfairly¨ when it was their own fault for pushing themselves too hard (which they take accountability for) other then wanting attention most likely, so lesson of story: your boss is not your parent and don´t expect them to be responsible in taking care of you and giving you special treatment. And idk I feel like Melon may have grown up with neglectful parents or something, just a thought is all.
maybe this is gonna make me sound like a jerk, but, yeah, if I was an employer and one of my employees overworked themselves to the point that they literally got sick even though I never at any point asked them to do that, then later they stopped working entirely because they got burnt out, I think I would get a little frustrated?? Idk. Especially if Omocat is telling the truth that they *told them* to take breaks and Melon straightup didn't, yeah I'd be mad that they just start missing deadlines on this thing a massive amount of people are funding to get done
i dont get why people nowdays have the urge to put everything that happen in their lifes in the internet. this is so stupid, omo wasnt a good leader, but she was not and asshole, and it seems like the person who made the post is not telling all the true, just the convinient parts. this things happen, and they can e resolved privatly. the girl knew that posting it would make people hate omo.
Call me having trust issue or something but this is the main reason why I adore solo dev and if I wanted to make an indie game I would rather have it solo than ever so reliant needing to work with other people.
Those are some weird accusations. While OMOCAT did make some management mistakes, some of the things Melon accused them for are actually pretty normal job stuff. You wont earn more of you're faster than others and such, you're just doing your job, y'know, if you overworked and were paid for it, that's on you. And it's totally fair for the employer to ask for a doctor's note if you're calling off sick, this is literally normal job procedure. And if you have a deadline, even if you're sick, you have to at least provide some reparation(idk, if its the right word, english is not my first language), what I'm saying is that they should have come out clean from the start and stated the deadline couldnt be achieved. Idk, from the tweets it looked like this person was a pain to work with...principally by belittling their coleagues' work
I feel like Melon Kid has a case to make that she was disrespected in the workplace, but she's blowing the situation way out of proportion. Based on what this video showed, I can't really say I think she's a reliable source.
So basically to put it bluntly Melon Kid is like *"I put myself through unhealthy amounts of hours into some unimportant part of the game that you only see once, and I believe I deserve full royalties. If not I'll throw a temper tantrum over Twitter >:(".*
Never hire anyone to help work on a game without a THOROUGH background check and a solid contract. A huge chunk of people in this industry are absolutely insane.
i mean, i kinda feel like its sorta melon's fault to overwork themselves VOLUNTARILY, and then after those standards have been set, a sudden dropoff of work because of that voluntarily work standards being set, plus they didn't provide a doctor's note, and bsically not working because of tht self-inflicted burnout. On the other hand, omo is a boss, and the workers under ANY boss for that matter should be treated as human beings, and not be over worked. and if they're not, then it's very poor management. Though the whole thing is just drama over some person voluntarily overworking themselves and the boss keeping that standard for the rest of the project, i cant really solidify my opinion because of the only work experience i have is manual labor at a family business edit: by voluntarily, i mean to work past hours without regards for the after effects on personal health, and not figuring out what to do if they get sick from that burnout ahead of time
Omocat has definitely made some mistakes in the past, but this is just stupid. Melon is digging themselves into a hole, exposing themselves with every tweet they post.
People, please, REMEMBER TO COMMUNICATE WITH EACH OTHER. I wouldn't be surprised if Omocat DID do some nasty stuff, but that would obviously be a result of the 6-7 years of working on a game nonstop. It doesn't excuse her actions, but she at least came clean and responded to this whole mess. It feels like Melon is blowing this up a bit, more than they need to. Yes, it would've been better if Omo had talked with Melon, but what indication did they give that they even WANTED to be talked to? Melon has a right to be mad, but instead of just spitting out shit, they should've genuinely talked to Omo. I understand it's hard to talk to someone that you left on a bad note with, but you should learn to build up the courage to do that.
Melon Kid is more in the wrong because there is almost 0 evidence whatsoever to even back up anything they are saying yes its true you overworked yourself but that was obviously their choice. The fact that they even posted about it js shows that they wanted to get into drama for attention and views because honestly they provided almost next to no evidence to defend themself and just jumped straight into attacking omo online instead of trying and solving the situation privately
So someone overworked themselves because they’re blinded by a dream coming true, then chucks a bitch fit because it didn’t go their way. This isn’t some fuckin workplace where you just play around all day and have a touch grass station (I’ve seen some videos from itsagundam, tumblr girl workplaces are pretty fuckin cringe), it’s a business. If you really care about the game, put love and care into it, you can’t do that by just fuckin blazing through everything and complaining the job isn’t what you wanted
People love attacking OMOCAT for some reason, probably because of those BS allegations about shotacon (that completely aren't true whatsoever, but yet is still repeated to this day) and so anytime someone like Melon steps up and says something negative about OMOCAT, the twitter idiots are just ready to snarf that up and regurgitate and barf it back out all over twitter even though it's extremely biased and doesn't seem like it's telling a completely honest story. I'd have to say I'm with OMOCAT on this one, Melon overworked herself, then left the production before the game's release. I mean, what did she think was gonna happen, when she had a salaried position? Also, if it's true that Melon was overwriting other peoples' code and adding whatever she felt like it to the game, uh, that's a big NO-NO in gamedev. You don't do that crap without permission, _especially_ if you were asked to stop. That alone would have been grounds to fire her on the spot.
god DAMN i stop being in the omori fandom for like 3 months and everything gets set on fire its hard for me to believe either side, it seems like melon is overplaying things but i dont know for sure
So because its an online job, they think its okay to miss deadlines without notice, just not work and not even provide proof they're ill?? How do they even think they have a case here?
And this happens when you hire mentally ill manchilds bruh Go to work in a construction site and watch how your boss fires you with a rocket launcher after you write some BS or ask for permits Nobody cares if you work too much, you have a job and when you don't produce anymore you are replacable Never put too much trust in your company Never compare your workplace to your group chat Never compare your workmates to your friend Never put too much trust in legal resources Never put too much trust in your own skills To build a castle you can spend decades, to crush it down few seconds
Dont want to insinuate anything, really! I do not! but it comes to my attention that these problems happen to that dev team all the time and i was wondering: Notice how these problems dont occur to the YIIK team?
I just want someone on the Omocat team to AT LEAST explain why Steam never got the additional content the other ports did. Seriously, how much time off your schedule would you have to free up to do that? Around five minutes to make a Twitter post? It's one of the most ridiculous things I've seen a dev do (or rather, NOT do) in the past few years.
All right, since that's the most probable reason, let me get my stop watch and... "Hello. Ever since the console port of ports of Omori dropped, we've been asked several times about whether or not we plan to port the extra content to Steam. We'd like to take this time to explain the situation. Unfortunately, due to the deal we made with the developers in charge of the ports, that will not be happening as the platforms they work on do not include Steam. We deeply apologize to the fans who are disappointed about this and we hope you still chose to enjoy our future projects. Thank you very much for your time and understanding." It took me about 4 and a half minutes to bang that out on the spot. I am including the time it took to correct spelling and redo sentences I thought didn't sound as good the first go through. This is inexcusable.
@@Sunnysideanyway I get that. My main beef is the fans being kept in the dark about it when the explanation takes 4 1/2 minutes to type. Don't leave us hanging. If there's no point in holding out for a Steam port of the stuff and the only option is to bite the bullet and buy it on another platform, nut and tells us so we can start saving the money. Leaving your fans in the dark and giving them the false hope it's hitting Steam someday is just scummy and it makes the team look lazy, cowardly or both. Yeah, there will be those who get angry about it, but welcome to the working world.
I'm sorry but all I'm hearing is: "Wah wah, I suck at managing my resources and overworked myself until I became more or less useless to the team. This is totally Omocat's fault! Now please everyone, feel petty for me." Loving the role of a victim much..? 😅 Of course we don't know all the details but this sure is what it sounds like to me.

The whole "can't stay awake" and "keep falling asleep at my computer" reminds me of texts I had with a friend that was heavily addicted to cocaine. It's damn near word for word the conversation we had. Not saying they are on cocaine, but it's a shitty excuse either.
Omo's problem is that she doesn't want to be the bad guy, but when you're the boss you sometimes have to make decisions people don't appreciate. Melon is an emotionally manipulative narcissist. As long as they keep getting attention they'll keep pulling this victim narrative.
@@ocin_the_ocin8766 oof, how the hell do I do that? I would like to have a team help with my own manga but where do I find the right people who are willing to volunteer since I don’t even have money yet 😶

Also if you want to make your own manga, you should first make a 'pitch bible' of sorts. Basically a huge book explaining what your story is about so people can get what's going on and see why they should be interested. It'll also help you comb through ideas to see what sticks and what doesn't.
This explains a lot why Omori game take so long to release. Omocat may not be the brightest but Melon brought this to himself at the end of the day there is no good guy or bad guy and I find it pretty sad…
Hmm, I don't know what to think about this... Why are you getting mad and claiming that they're guilt tripping you over something self inflicted. You overworked yourself to exhaustion not them. Eat up the lies? Oh no honey. I based my opinion solely on the info melon kid provided and came to the conclusion, as someone else working in the field, that they have been beyond unprofessional and should not expect royalties when you just dip from work with no reasoning or doctors note. Have Omocat been unprofessional and not good at management? Yes. But Melon kid themselves were worse and definitely In the wrong. You sound like a kid who's never worked a day in your life. Come back when you've gotten a real job and see how well you are getting paid, and getting extra royalties when you don't work for 5 months with not a single doctors note to back up your illness. Or better yet. See if you even have a job to return to
No, she does not. She made an Omori shirt with the word "Shota" on it, which means something like young pretty boy in japanese. Idiotic people pretending to know japanese thought it meant "Shotacon" (The con suffix means attraction, so shotacon means attraction to young boys, while shota just means young boy) and accused her of being a pedophile, which is absurb. It's as absurd as saying someone is a pedo for saying "child" because the word child pr*dator exists.
İmagine breaking the contract entirely just because your employee stopped working on the projecr for months WHEN THE WHOLR GAME TOOK YEARS TO DEVELOP. omocat has no humanity and compassion left in her. Everythi g she says has a manipulative behaviour in it. She always twists words and adds irrelevant things to the argument even in their apology.
How young are you bro, taking months off of a project is rarely ok, especially if they only started working on the game a year before it came out when it's been in development since like 2014
Randomly halting on work for months is not good at all. it could stress out the team, cause general concerns, and it could stunt the project. Sometimes you’ve just gotta suck it up and work.
In absolutely no work environment, is it OK to stop working with no doctors note for MONTHS. And talking about compassion? We can all be reasonably understandings of someone mental and physical health within a reasonable setting and with appropriate information. Accusing them of lacking compassion just because they don't pay full royalties, something they aren't even obligated to get after being paid full, and extra for their overtimes is just absolutely ridiculous. They are the boss of a team trying to push out a product within a deadline, and continuing to push everything back because their staff stops working for months and come up with nothing but excuses and no doctors notes, can be both critical and straining for a team of limited staff. In fact, it's quite amazing Omocat even let them continue to be on the team, working extremely limited, still getting fully paid, and being offered 3K of royalties. Most workplaces would've fired them despite their health complications because they still have a product that needs to be released, and they will only continue to lose money by pushing it back. Usually, you'd hire someone new to come in and take over... I genuinely do not understand why Melon kid still wanted full royalties despite already being paid full and even paid for their overtime. It's pure greed and arrogance on their part to insinuate that they deserve that much royalties with how little work they did, as if their work mattered more than any of the other staff. Like they did more than any of them. That is a huge slap in the face towards what everyone on that team. They do not deserve more royalties just cuz they had health issues they caused themselves.

I was a no-call no-show for a few days at a job and got fired once. Should I have wrote a tweet cancelling my shift supervisor? lol.
Exactly l. Either melon is really this immature or they expect the audience to be. Probably both. This is unprofessional.

She's still your boss not a friend.
Idk maybe I'm missing something.
Yeah, the way Melon comes off is all weirdly friendly, especially in 3:08 we can see that perhaps a lot of the
time they put into the game actually didn't come off right, since it might have had to be remade due to poor team coding on Melon's part.

This should have been held in private and honestly just makes Melon look like they're out to hurt Omocat for something that they handled poorly.
i will add that melon said they tried to handle it privately
@@diondredunigan5282 I did see that but honestly I don't know how much we can trust Melon, I don't know how the blocking system works and I'm not all that invested in this issue any further. I would just offer a compensation for bad management and lost of royalties (Even if Melon forgoed said royalties themselves but the way it was handled was terrible) and make some kind of amends. But I'm not Omocat XD

Should omocat have put their foot down? Maybe. If you said that to your boss in any other job, they wouldn't care and just fire you, especially after refusing to get a doctor's note.
honestly bro
Wow melon kid needs to just be a melon adult.
It turns out they just wanted to work extra for no reason, for some reason went to some extent and then burned themselves out
I have no idea how that happens
Well at least now we know why they are called Melon kid
I feel bad for omocat at this point
maybe this is gonna make me sound like a jerk, but, yeah, if I was an employer and one of my employees overworked themselves to the point that they literally got sick even though I never at any point asked them to do that, then later they stopped working entirely because they got burnt out, I think I would get a little frustrated??
Call me having trust issue or something but this is the main reason why I adore solo dev and if I wanted to make an indie game I would rather have it solo than ever so reliant needing to work with other people.
melon kinda needs to grow up, omocat did offer them breaks but they didnt listen and now are blaming it on omo..
Call her "Karen Kid"!

I genuinely hope Melon deletes her account if she wants to stay in the industry, that thread will get her blacklisted if any employer sees it.
Yeah, no. this is completely open and shut for Omocat's favor. Simple as that.
i mean, i kinda feel like its sorta melon's fault to overwork themselves VOLUNTARILY, and then after those standards have been set, a sudden dropoff of work because of that voluntarily work standards being set, plus they didn't provide a doctor's note, and bsically not working because of tht self-inflicted burnout. On the other hand, omo is a boss, and the workers under ANY boss for that matter should be treated as human beings, and not be over worked. and if they're not, then it's very poor management. Though the whole thing is just drama over some person voluntarily overworking themselves and the boss keeping that standard for the rest of the project, i cant really solidify my opinion because of the only work experience i have is manual labor at a family business
edit: by voluntarily, i mean to work past hours without regards for the after effects on personal health, and not figuring out what to do if they get sick from that burnout ahead of time
Omocat has definitely made some mistakes in the past, but this is just stupid.

I don't feel like melon kid is telling the full truth.and this should have stopped after the apology. But he didn't let the conversation to end .

My guess is that since MP2 Games co-developed the console ports, there could potentially be some legal issues
@@SoftBought This is a big reason why games like Terraria had never ported over old-gen console exclusive content.

Twitter user spotted lmfao
