    90% of my channel video are capture with Olympus OMD EM10 MARK III 😊. Love it so much! The only downside of the camera is without the audio input.

      Yes! If I could use built in audio that would be super convenient! It's not too bad to sync audio later but, still adds a step. I wish that using the olympus app to start and stop recording would allow for 4K capture. For some reason, it only will record in HD when starting with the phone. I need to do some research into whether there is a workaround for that.

    I started with an e-500 in 2005, then two yrs later went to Canon 5D mkii, then two 3 years later Sony A6000, then A6300. Then dropped all and shot only on Iphone. I have been wanting a 15Pro Max, but will wait for a 16 Pro Max. I just ordered a 10 mkiii yesterday while waiting for the Iphone next year

      The E-500 is one of my all time favorites for color science! I'm still enjoying the 10 mkiii and did quite a bit of shooting on it last weekend in Houston! Phones are definitely a legit tool as well. I'm still on the Pixel 4 but I use it for all kinds of video b-roll for this channel! Thanks for watching! Did you pick up the 10 mkiii for anything specific?

    Great video as always! As a Pentaxian, I know the challenges of focus and video quality. In your photo and video work, have you used cine cams or camcorders? I guess some of the challenge is related to finding an all in one camera that meets the needs of both video and still images. I have not owned an Olympus camera, but your video and images have peaked my interest. Thanks again for sharing and always interesting content!

      Thank you for watching as always! Pentax cameras always peek my interest. Especially the 645D. I haven't personally used any cine cams for my own projects those I've been around a few on set. In my own work I've been using the Sony A7iii and A6400 which definitely fall into the hybrid category. In this instance, you're right. It was definitely about finding a decent "all in one" but perhaps the reality is that I just need a dedicated video camera and a dedicated photo camera. I'd say on the photo side, I'm loving the look I get out of the Olympus cameras. Which Pentax are you using? I think I've asked that before lol.

      Currently, I am using a K-r, after my KP died, Mx-1 and Pentax Q several other digicams, I am currently in the 12-16 mp range right now, I do have a dedicated camcorder (panasonic) KP was up to 24mp. Enjoy the K-mount for all the vintage lens choice @@ColtonMatocha

    This camera is not for video. Thats why I purchased it! Its a brilliant camera for still photography. oh! and this 'I don't care if it breaks' because it cost so little. All things should be looked after. These cameras are marvels and the price is irrelevant. Teat your equipment with respect and care for it and it will pay dividends.

    • @ColtonMatocha
      @ColtonMatocha  Год назад

      Absolutely. Really wonderful color science from Olympus with this one! The video component is worth calling out just because this camera almost could be great for video since it has amazing image stabilization in video mode that might be some of the best I've ever used. Unfortunately, the other video features aren't fully fleshed out, and understandably so. The camera in stills mode is really a joy to use!

    maybe we can forgive autofocus performance of this little gem for its IBIS and nice design, it's a joy to use I think. but I bought a canon r10 next to my e-m10m3 for these limitations (absence of fast af , ext mic input, type c etc..)

    • @ColtonMatocha
      @ColtonMatocha  Год назад +1

      Yeah the IBIS on this camera is insane. Olympus might have some of the best IBIS on the market. And I'll also say that the autofocus probably isn't as bad as I found it to be in my original test. So I'll probably be due for a re-review at some point. How are you liking the Canon?

      The 30mm 3.5 macro lens! It's a really solid lens and pretty compact as well.

    Continuous Auto-Focus (video) can be problematic using Contract-Detect Autofocus system cameras such as the EM-10.III. For stills Contrast-Detect is fine, but for video you are best off with Phase-Detect Autofocus. CD-AF uses a hunting algorithm by design. PD-AF skips all the intermediate approximations, several, and sprints directly to the correct focus-lock in one go. It is a gotta-have feature for video with lots of motion. DFD which is an optimization of CD-AF that reduces the number of big hunts, but does not come near PD-AF in the most difficult scenarios, why Panasonic FINALLY put PD-AF into the new camera.

    • @ColtonMatocha
      @ColtonMatocha  Год назад

      Yes, I totally agree. I will say that since making this video, I have found the video function working much better than I originally experienced (chalk that up to just getting more familiar with the camera). BUT, even still, a video focused person will find this camera lacking. It's surprising how far some manufacturers tried to push CD-AF. I'm very glad to see Panasonic and Olympus finally getting into PD-AF. It's about time.

      @@ColtonMatocha I probably want a 645 also - just too much money for me to think about at the mo. Question: are you adapting your 4/3 lenses to this M4/3 thing?

    • @ColtonMatocha
      @ColtonMatocha  Год назад

      @@luzr6613 yeah same. The money is too high an ask for what it is. I only saw it that one time at a price I would consider paying which was $1700 USD for the camera with two lens. On eBay, its that price or more for just a body. I did purchase an adapter to use my 4/3rds lens on this camera! So far they actually work pretty well other than the autofocus is impressively slow and indecisive.

    • @luzr6613
      @luzr6613 Год назад

      @@ColtonMatochaWith my 4/3 cameras - so that's E-300, 620 and E5 - I accept the AF when it's not critical, but tweek it with manual if it is critical (this when using the OVF). With the 620 and the 5 i also often adjust with manual when shooting using Live View, which i often don't find to be super accurate. I always focus manually with macro (ie my 50mm f2). I've no idea what it's like with mirrorless (and i honestly don't want to know), but i suspect it's got that similar awkwardness to LV on my DSLRs, only not as bad?

    • @ColtonMatocha
      @ColtonMatocha  Год назад +1

      @@luzr6613 Oh having shot both I'd say it's much easier to manually focus on a mirrorless because you have the option to digitally "zoom in" for the purposes of focusing without changing your actual zoom. (its only changing the evf view while focusing). So even focusing at f1.4 becomes reliable. I'd also say the older lens are still pretty accurate, they just focus a little awkward but once they get it they get it!
