  • Are Tegus Good Pets?
    Well, what do you think? I hope my opinion provides some insight, I am not an expert on tegus by any means. But having owned Zilla for five years, I figured it has been a sufficient amount of time to share my honest opinion of tegus as pets. As stated in the video, this is solely my experiences and opinions having worked with Zilla as well as a few other tegus at previous jobs. I am sure there are plenty of other great opinions out there that differ and I am by no means criticizing them. I am simply just sharing my experiences. Hopefully it provided some insight to you viewers watching!

    Love it! I recently adopted a tegu and she is amazing. We are working with her everyday on target training for her food, potty training, and just getting her used to handling and proper socialization, because as you said, she's an apex predator. They are such incredible animals. Your affection for Zilla is very clear, you've done a great job with her! Great video!

      Thank you for the kind words.
      I’m glad this information was useful for you.
      Best with your new tegu!

    Great video, I would completely agree that they are a member of the family. We call it the "tribe" Our Tegu is about 7-8 months old. and watching it grow is incredible. Feeding it and interacting with it daily is incredibly rewarding.

    Great job pointing out the true reality of owning a tegu!

    Very informative video! I don't think I would get a tegu as of now as I've already got a "larger" lizard which is my savannah monitor but maybe one day when I get my own place and have the funds I would love to get a tegu, maybe a golden tegu. They seem very interesting.

    Dude your videos are fantastic! I've been keeping chameleons and other lizards since I was super young, I'm really considering getting a Tegu. I really appreciate that you drill everything that needs considering taking care of any exotic. We don't have enough enthusiasts warning people NOT to join the community hahaha

      Thanks,
      I definitely don’t want to discourage anyone from getting a tegu. But I feel compared to other lizards: tegus are regarded as “easy” and “beginner” level large lizards, when they are no doubt just as large and expensive to maintain as some of the other more advanced species.
      Just because it’s a “calmer” large lizard doesn’t mean it’s still gonna cost $1,000+ to maintain indoors on food, lighting, enclosure setup, and extra materials.

    Think a 70w megaray will be enough for a 4 foot vivarium for my young tegu while we wait on our custom build

    • @AlexsAgamids
      @AlexsAgamids  3 года назад

      Definitely!
      Just make sure you check that the basking spot os warm enough.
      Going with a 100watt may be a better option.

    Does your enclosure have a screen or solid top?

    • @AlexsAgamids
      @AlexsAgamids  3 года назад

      It has screen sections for the lights.
      Otherwise it is 95% a solid topped enclosure.

      @@AlexsAgamids You have your uvb on top of the screen or only the basking light(s)? Thanks for the reply

    • @AlexsAgamids
      @AlexsAgamids  3 года назад

      My UVB is via a Zoomed Powerson 160 watt Mercury Vapor Bulb.
      So it provided a lot of heat and a ton of UVB from one fixture.

      @@AlexsAgamids i have my 3 and a half months old water dragon and is a 50x100x50 cm terrarium good for him?

    • @AlexsAgamids
      @AlexsAgamids  3 года назад

      That size will only last you about another two months or so.
      Honestly: you’re better off going with a 120cm x 60cm x 120cm to last you a bit longer.
