The detachable cord on the Griots polishers is genius. It makes storing each machine in its box so easy and no worries about putting strain on the electric cord. Thanks for the tips on polishing metal and plastic surfaces. I may have to buy a GR3 even though I’m not polishing Ferrari mufflers every week.

yeah when the pads are new they will lint out thats how most wool pads are but after some use they are awesome for metal and heavy cutting.

It's has what newer polishers have, like a trigger speed control trigger. has great amount of power etc...
I got the FLEX rotary and it is a sweet polisher I used it on my Dragster RR along with Auto Fanatic wheel cleaning foam...the Griots GR3 is backordered but should have it soon...thanks for the review...

Hi, your videos are very helpful.
Since you have both the G8 and the GR3, and use them often, I have a few questions for you and hopefully you can help me.
* I am going to work on electric guitars with 2k Automotive Clear coat, and I need a 3" polisher with which I can buff, cut imperfections and polish.
I don't know which of the two works better for that specific scenario, what I want is to finally have a perfect mirror like finish on the clear coat.
- I have read and seen many comments from other people, who say that the rotary leaves holograms in the cut compound processes, which are difficult to remove in the last polishing step.
That's right? or just jumpy conclusions from people who don't use the tool properly? In that case, would the G8 serve me better?

Hello, your videos are very good. One question, how many revolutions does the new griots g3 totativa have? if you press it when polishing it stops like g8? I like the g8 a lot but it stops up to speed 6 making pressure to correct defects, you have to manipulate it a lot so that it does not stop, and I have 2 g8 machines so it is not a failure of a machine, instead the dear porter cable 7424 does not know it stops at speed 6 even if I stand on top of the machine or put a lot of pressure on it, and the strange and strange thing is that the porter cable 7424 has only 4.5 amps. and less power supposedly than the g8 with more power 7.5 amp and it stops, you know why ??? Thank you

You bet you can get pads 4 inch down to 1 inch for this machine as it comes with extensions and the backing plates for them all.

Yes i took delivery of my GR3 about 2 weeks ago after a long wait. I haven't put it to use yet. The side gloss plastic trim on my F150 have scratches what advise can i get to get rid of them and bring it back to mew look. What products works best and should i use the gr3 to perform this task.
for plastic use the Novus plastic polishes you can order off Amazon. just go slow because plastic with a rotary can be destroyed easily this machine has a ton of power as i show in this video to easily polish stainless steel which is one of the toughest materials to polish

I have the g8 and g9 and a milwaukee m12 mini polisher. I would love the gr3 but doesn't make sense for me to get it maybe if I get it cheap I'll pull the trigger.

no they do not make a 5 inch rotary
Flex is so inconsistent with quality. Some people have years of trouble free service but my PE8 leaked oil after less than 6 hours of use. I thought this was a fluke but my friend reported the same oil leak problem with his Flex 3401. Contacting Flex only resulted in a run-around. I will never buy another Flex. This GR3 looks like a great replacement for my PE8.
I own all the Griots small polishers and there incredible and i use them professionally non step. There so much better than the Flex and Rupes which are just modified angle grinders
@@autofanaticcarsI have 6 polishers and 1 of them is a Griots (small orbital) which has been rock solid reliable. I have zero idea whether Griots has good customer service since I've never needed to contact them due to my Griots polisher being reliable. Will definitely get another Griots polisher. Flex has a great name and I suspect maybe due to incentivized reviewers. Through first hand experience the Flex brand is not reliable and they have poor customer service.
Can you use it as a sander?
Yes I use it to sand stainless steel and love how easy is is to control I use Mirka and Norton sanding discs works awesome never once skipped a beat with continuous use.

you could use a larger backing plate generic but not suggested to go too large to overload the motor.

I still have my gg6 but definitely Griot's Garage has several good ones like the G8 and G9 besides that G3. One thing is changing the grease but great all for beginners too.
I'd prefer Flex polisher over Griots any day!
the Flex design is archaic compared to the GR3 as i explained if you use both youll hate the Flex and never use it again.
@@autofanaticcars, The one you mentioned in the video is totally different from the ones I have on hand.
I have Flex XC 3401 which is a dual action polisher and Flex PE 14, which is a rotary polisher & a beast. They both are designed differently from the one you used as general purpose.
I own all of the Flex polishers I love them all but the smaller compact unit as i show in this video i just never liked for the features it lacked most specifically the lack of a soft start trigger like the PE14 which is one of my favorites. Most of my metal and car polishing gear is from Flex they make awesome tools that are industrial grade for my manufacturing business.
I dont like it i cant control it and spins out my hand
