She is such an intense and passionate Natasha. Both Denee and Pippa are wonderful but I feel like Denee softens it and makes it more a dreamy song and Pippa makes it feel like strong passionate happiness. That's what makes both versions so unique. Both Pippa and Denee are amazing singers. There's no need to compare. Their versions are unique and gorgeous.
Alba I know right it’s so hard to compare both versions because they’re both wonderful and both singers took a different take on it and the way they acted it out is different like with Pippa she saw it as intense happiness and is very passionate but Denee is Kinda it’s soft and very dreamy
I was so surprised that no one was clapping or anything when Dave Malloy said Phillipa Soo and than I remembered that this was before most people knew who she was and that's weird
Hamilton was in 2015 but I think if he did see this for me personally I might have made her Angelica because of her belt. Honestly she could have done either of them
ANISSA HOTOMANI i agree because she can be powerful but she can also be calm and controlled which i think fits elizas so well especially the way angelica explains elizas character
it's because of the narrowing of the aryepiglottic sphincter, that she's doing. it gives her ring and boosts the frequency of her voice. it's a "mic" for her voice. it's what's used to sound like a "rock belt"
It's a really hard note too for some reason. It feels really high. I'm actually surprised it's just an E. I thought it was at least an F, maybe a G by the way it felt.
@@lexyrose8228 It's probably because of this video (though Lin-Manuel Miranda seems to have picked up the expression somewhere previously) ruclips.net/video/9eWdjsKy_bE/видео.html
Her interpretation of this song is fascinating. You'd imagine that the actress would act happiness. Here we've got longing. It's really complex acting. Amazing.
The way she transitions from soprano to fake belt, to extremely healthy real belt is truly a showcase of how perfect her technique is. It literally has no flaws, yet she still sounds so undeniably human. She really is the moon goddess!!!!!
I remember Lin saying Eliza’s songs didn’t do justice to Pippa’s range and I couldn’t agree more because wow THE "I love you, I love you, I love, I love you..." PART GAVE ME BUTTERFLIES IN MY STOMACH THE PASSION I FEEL IN THOSE WORDS ARE JUST CHEF KISSES
me too!!!! my friends and i we're telling each other which broadway star we sound like and they though i sound most like pippa!! i cannot belt like her i can't belt high at all sooo
she sings with so much emotion it's unbelievable. like even without watching her facial expressions you can just hear it in her music. it's absolutely breathtaking, Pippa sings this 1 song with more emotion than I've felt all year lmao
Now I understand why Lin Manuel MIranda was so determined to cast her as Eliza after seeing her in this show (which I had never heard of.) If she was giving performances like this, it makes perfect sense. What a hauntingly beautiful melody.
This girl is perfect. Do you want me to list the amazing things? 1. She doesn't fiddle with her mic the whole time. She knows what to do with her hands 2. She did such a great job with her mixing 3. She can sing so well in such a healthy way 4. She's interacting with the fans while she sings 5. SHE SANG SO AMAZINGLY AND BEAUTIFULLY! 6. Her diction is on point! Btw these are all coming from a singer like her so I know what I am saying.
All things I noticed as a singer! Especially the "childlike eyes" line. The vowels are all the same so keeping the consonants sharp is so important and she did it wonderfully.
JazzberryProductions Well, I believe she's 26 and if this was recorded on 12/10/13 like the title says that would make her 23 at the time.. So, a year younger than me lol my bad xD
NATASHA The moon - First time I heard your voice Moonlight burst into the room And I saw your eyes And I saw your smile And the world opened wide And the world was inside of me And I catch my breath And I laugh and blush And I hear guitars You are so good for me I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you Oh the moon Oh the snow in the moonlight And your childlike eyes And your distant smile I'll never be this happy again You and I And no one else We've done this all before We were angels once Don't you remember? Joy and life Inside our souls And nobody knows Just you and me It's our secret This winter sky How can anyone sleep? There was never such a night before! I feel like putting my arms round my knees And squeezing tight as possible And flying away Like this... Oh the moon Oh the snow in the moonlight And your childlike eyes And your distant smile I'll never be this happy again You and I You and I You and I And no one else Maybe he'll come today Maybe he came already And he's sitting in the drawing room And I simply forgot
Seeing this exactly 10 years later, having just learned this song and being a massive fan of Phillipa Soo, I feel like this was RUclips being an absolute genius lol As always I am astounded by her voice and her singing this has helped me with my own personal performance and choices with this song. Thanks RUclips, this was a very good call
Briana Taylor I think people don't credit mixing as much as someone who only belts during a song - I think mixing reflects more skill and control than just solely belting! Amazing
I'm in love with this video. She is so lovely - she has such a gorgeous vulnerable, innocent, joyful quality. It's just beautiful to watch. She really is talented.
I love the difference between Pippa and Denee’s take on Natasha. Pippa’s version is longing and heart struck while Denee is more childish and giddy with love. You can see this both in their acting and their singing and I love it
I’ve listened to exclusively the Original Broadway recording since it came out, but wow. I forgot how amazing Pippa was as Natasha. I love her powerful, soulful voice, and I love Denée’s soft innocence in her own performance. Can’t help but miss Pippa and Dave though.
I commented on this video four years ago after absolutely falling in love with it, as probably most of you did. Maybe some of you can relate also to the path it led me on: after watching it, I listened to all of NP&TGC. A couple years later, I read War and Peace. After that, I read a bunch of Tolstoy's short stories and Anna Karenina (a somewhat bleak quarantine read...) All of this influenced my growth as a writer and thinker, and also, simply, as a person. The most fun thing, though, was to learn No One Else. I'm a classical singer, and for a while, this was my "show piece". And now, four years later, I learned to sing it and accompany myself on the piano, which feels like an absolute gift. and it is on my baby channel, because of course it is. :D
Her singing is so healthy and clean! I have never heard belting like hers! She is a star and I am obsessed!
So healthy, pure.
Very similar to Lea Salonga
@Luna Lovegood there’s always gotta be one person hacking their lungs out in the middle of a theatre video lmaoo
@@Keith_Petersen_Actoromg in an interview she said lea salonga is her inspiration
I wish I could pull an Ursula and steal her voice.
SAME !
Lexie Nicole this comment made my day
Lexie Nicole oh....oh my....
Why you guys mean to philipa? why not just ask her how to have a beautiful voice or how to maintaine it?
ArdieRouen Sunday some people -me- were born tone deaf and can't sing in tune

yeah same lol i was like ‘eliza hamilton anyone?’ then i remembered this was like 2 years before it lmao
I'll be honest, I've never heard a voice so _pure_ before
A. Hamilton YOU BROKE HER HEART
Ikr shes an angel but without wings she nEEDS Wings
I wouldn't be surprised if this was the video Lin watched to decide apon Eliza's character. If so, this definitely sold it
ll HOPE ll Actually, he and Ron Chernow saw Pippa perform in this show. That's what made them approach her for the role of Eliza.
+CountTheStarsAG thanks for sharing that with us, cool fun fact.
Hamilton was in 2015 but I think if he did see this for me personally I might have made her Angelica because of her belt. Honestly she could have done either of them

Go watch their interview on kelly clarkson i think from a few weeks ago i think he said that this is when he first heard her
OKAY MAMA CHEEK BONES YOU GOT IT
mikey sotelo ikr
She makes the E at 4:02 sound so much higher than an E. Her placement is absolutely incredible
Ikr. She is singing goals.

I KNEW PIPPA WAS GOOD BUT DAMN SHES TALENTED LIKE WOW?? HOW?? IS THAT POSSIBLE OML!
ITS NOT HUMANLY POSSIBLE SHES AN ANGEL SENT FROM THE HEAVENS
She was an angel once; don't you remember?
someone remind me how to breathe
Amy Cach when I read this I realized I wasn't breathing
I forgot I'm so sorry

From the diaphragm, preferably.
Inhale, exhale
I love how she interacts with the audience so much during this performance. Pippa truly is a cinnamon roll.
can you explain why ppl say that i’ve never understood why???
@@lexyrose8228 It's probably because of this video (though Lin-Manuel Miranda seems to have picked up the expression somewhere previously)

RobertDPore but he said that ppl were already saying it
Jordan Rosales when. People say someone is a cinnamon roll they mean they’re precious and sweet and need to be protected from any haters
Eva is a cupcake thanks. i guess i figured as much, i just still don’t understand. thanks anyway
So blown away. She's an amazing singer and knows how to sing healthily and slays our lives at the same damn time!!
BLOW US ALL AWAY
+Mya Smith Haha! True! This song ends a lot happier than that one I would say. 😳
+Grace Fitzpatrick Definitely! I don't think I'll ever get over Philip... Even he died like 200 years ago XD
Same
Her interpretation of this song is fascinating. You'd imagine that the actress would act happiness. Here we've got longing. It's really complex acting. Amazing.
2:40-2:46 the personal connection made with an audience member, 'It's our secret' omg!!! I'm slayyyyed!
The piano accompaniment in the song is so beautiful. And her voice...wow.
ARE YOU SERIOUS...PHILLIPA. LOVE YOU SO MUCH. ACTING. VOICE. EXISTENCE.
same
This song is SO difficult. And she makes it sound like the goddamn birthday song in difficulty
Her voice is RIDICULOUS.
-LY incredible 😂
ikrrrrr I'm jealous
Pippa is my ultimate singing goals, I'm in love. Hamilton doesn't begin to show how amazing her voice is, although it does a fairly excellent job. :')
This is like a warm up for her OMG, I'm over here sing my existence away trying to sound as good as pippa
Every time I listen to this I get chills. her voice is so clear and flawless, HOW DOES SHE DO IT
The way she transitions from soprano to fake belt, to extremely healthy real belt is truly a showcase of how perfect her technique is. It literally has no flaws, yet she still sounds so undeniably human. She really is the moon goddess!!!!!

I'm a mezzo but if I ever wanted to be a soprano I'd steal her voice. It's one of the clearest and healthiest I've ever heard
Shes got the voice of an angel
How can someone be so perfect?
@Aiyana Land, she was an angel once. Don't you remember?
That F is pretty damn incredible.

Pippa must be an angel because no human can sing so beautifully.
We don't deserve this precious little cinnamon roll.
Would love to see her as Christine in Phantom
I'm not sobbing I swear.
i am. im sobbing really hard
Mya Smith RELATABLE

PIPPA IS SO INCREDIBLY TALENTED AHHHHHH

Longing to be this amazing one day.

Maggie Jones I know she went to Juilliard but I think before that she was classically trained.
All things I noticed as a singer! Especially the "childlike eyes" line. The vowels are all the same so keeping the consonants sharp is so important and she did it wonderfully.
does anyone else just like silently cry tears of joy when she sings "this winter sky"
ya'll all forget pippa's a juliard graduate. of course she's this good.
i think i just found my new favorite broadway singer
*CHILLS EVERYWHERE*
My little smol pippa bean. Im crying shes so beautiful
i just realized almost every natasha has played eliza!! phillipa, shoba, and now denee! they all have beautiful voices and interpretations!!
She was the same age in this video as I am now and I honestly just can't fathom how she is so amazing.. How? I don't understand...
How old is she in this??

this is INSANE! Phillipa is amazing.
I found the Great Comet of 1812 because I adored Phillipa in Hamilton, so thank you Phillipa!!! I love this musical.
she makes it sound so effortless and easy. the whole song just sparkles
I would probably die if I was in the audience watching Pippa because she’s connecting with them and smiling at them...i would MELT

The second time she says "I'll never be this happy again" makes me want to throw myself of a bridge but in a good way (3:46)
Perfection. But you guys she is not belting. She is mixing. And she's so good at it 💕

camila monter I guess you're mixing head voice and chest voice together into a belt.

she is so incredible and amazingly talented. i want to listen to her voice every day for the rest of my life its so beautiful :')
Ok who keeps coming back to this because of how amazing it is???????
I can't believe she's only 23 in this. Her voice is already perfection, and she's got decades to get even better.
I have this song on repeat. I can't stop. So beautiful.
She was absolutely born to be onstage. She just ones whatever performance she is doing
so in love with her voice! the way she does both of the "i'll never be this happy again" lines i swear this woman could do anything
I didn't realize there was live footage of an angel singing
Her voice makes me cry
Such a shame this closed so soon. It was the best musical I’ve ever seen live, and I’ve seen them all.
i actually can't listen to this without crying
Goodness me, she has such an incredible voice and the piano accompaniment is so beautifully done! She is such a lovely singer!
When she does her YOU AND I YOU AND I YOU AND IIIIIIIII, I feel like I could conquer the world
I'm crying WTF! Its such a tender song
This performance is just confirmation that Pippa is a goddess
Every so often I have to come back to this video so Phillipa can cleanse my soul of all the wickedness from the world.
This doesn’t happen often but
OH. MY GOD I GOT CHILLS THIS PERFORMANCE IS AMAZING
