    An excellent approach to cutting the propeller. Love the DVF's simultaneous five-axis machining capabilities. Saves set-up, fixturing, and cycle times cutting from all sides in one set-up.

    I've always thought it was best to rough with several 3+2 positions then do your final passes with full 5. The reason being when all 5 axis are are moving simultaneously, the setup is less rigid than when locked in position with 3+2. Is this not the case?

    • @TITANSofCNC
      @TITANSofCNC  2 года назад +4

      Your correct, 90% of the time. Also depends on the machine as some are faster and more rigid than others.
      In this case, we have a good machine and we’re using a great KOR-5 tool in soft aluminum. Whe part is round and has fins etc which… if you did 3+2… to clean up the bottom, you would have to run this or a similar path anyways… so hey, get it done. Also, this was a video created to teach you guys the tool path.
      Great Job Jessie🙏🤙😁

    When you bring in your solidmodel, do you have to transform/ translate it to line up with where the top WCS is in mastercam or can you get away with creating a new work offset on the feature you want it on wherever the solid models ends up dropping in at? It been a minute since I have worked in mastercam.

    It looks like there is a tiny stall as the trunnion tilts during the swarf path? Is the program outrunning the machine’s look ahead ability? Or can something like that be dialed in on the post? Full 5A is a little outside of what we do, so forgive the basic question.

    • @urgamecshk
      @urgamecshk 2 года назад

      The trunnion simply needs to change the angle before it can proceed cutting

    • @harindugamlath
      @harindugamlath 2 года назад

      Yes. I noticed that too.

    • @opendstudio7141
      @opendstudio7141 2 года назад

      I've had that problem on swarf cuts when I had my path resolution set incorrectly and the post would generate thousands of lines of code to move just a tiny fraction along a constrained path. Pretty simple thing to overlook.

    • @Jessie_Smith
      @Jessie_Smith 2 года назад

      I couldn't get the lead-in angle perfect with the part so it is having to go from one angle to another in a very short distance at 305ipm. I could have spent a little more time on it and perfected it but it wasn't that much of a move so I didn't worry about it. Your question is not a basic question. It is a very good question and what you see there is often one of the hardest things about programming on a 5 axis. You can easily get toolpath on a part but getting it to be smooth with no jerking or unnecessary motion is the difficult part.

    I've always thought it was best to rough with several 3+2 positions then do your final passes with full 5. The reason being when all 5 axis are are moving simultaneously, the setup is less rigid than when locked in position with 3+2. Is this not the case?

    • @Jessie_Smith
      @Jessie_Smith 2 года назад +1

      There is some truth to that being less rigid because both the tilting and rotary axes are not clamped but there is nothing saying you can’t rough this way. It just depends on what you are doing and this being aluminum there isn’t much concern for the rigidity. That being said, yes I always will try to use 3+2 toolpaths whenever possible for both Roughing and finishing. Some of the reason being rigidity but mainly because with 3+2 toolpaths you get the option to use cutter comp. You CAN put 3d cutter comp on simultaneous toolpaths but most people don’t buy the option and it is difficult to get a post to support it properly.
