  • How Are You REALLY Doing? ☕️ | Our Trip To Arizona Unscripted
Before and After our Arizona Adventure - How Are You REALLY Doing?
Life has been wild lately and not in a fun way.
Before we headed out to our trip to Arizona, I got covid and ended up in the freaking hospital!
But they cleared me to go to Arizona and so off we went. Which probably wasn't the best idea for my health (in retrospect) but I did not want to miss this trip!
The whole fam bam was headed down to enjoy a quick trip to get some vitamin D. We were visiting my college roomates, but this was the first time getting together for the first time since we lost our Daniella.
The flights times out and in were wonky and I had to let the sleep stress go. The girls did SO WELL!! They were a little moody day one but I'll chalk that up to a 4am wake up😅
But it was incredible to see them outside and thrivingggg!!
Makes you wonder, can we replicate it here or do we need to move to Arizona 😂😂
Now that we're back, we're all sick. I swear I should have scheduled Hawaii the week after Spring break so we'd have a week off of school before we took off. Instead I scheduled it 2 weeks after.. a loss for so many reasons except it was the cheapest time to fly sooooo here we are!

You are the realest thing to happen to RUclips. Please make more videos like this. This probably has to be my top favourite video you have posted ever. And I've watched them all.
Yes you make content for your viewers because you want views BUT make videos that make YOU happy. Or else you'll hate making videos.
Hope you feel better soon ❤

When you talked about Seth saying "It's not that kind of trip" regarding what you will and won't be able to do in Hawaii I almost cried. That attitude is such a true show of love for his kids ❤
Also, I loved this video. You said you felt like it was boring and low energy, but you are such an inspiring and encouraging person always. I really hope you will feel better quickly and that this hard time will be over soon.

You'll be fine! I take it with the mindset that no matter how the flight goes, you'll eventually make it and be in a beautiful place. We just flew to Fiji and New Zealand with our 17 month old twins, they just slept 95% of the flights. Totally worth it to take advantage of lap infants

I love these types of videos from you because 1. They’re relatable. And 2. It makes me feel like I’m sitting down with a mom friend just shootin the shit…which is a rare thing because I don’t have any mom friends except a few bffs from childhood that live states away😅😩🥴

You will love Hawaii! All you need are beach days. We took my 5yo when he was 2 and he remembers so many details, asks to go back all the time! I do recommend your own seats. It’s nice to do one parent with one kid. And bring ALL the snacks. It’s a long flight to be hungry. On another note, kids get so used to travel so fast. My newly 3yo was buckling himself in without my help or suggestion a few months ago. Like, this is what we do now! You’ve got this!

Love ALL your videos! When i actually have a minute (pregnant mom with 1 toddler), i search "Hey Shayla" hoping there is a new video. There has never been a time in which you've disappointed. The rawness of this video is helpful for someone like me because it's relatable. I often push myself way way too far too. I had a corona virus (not COVID but an OG corona) a few weeks ago and i felt so so bad but kept trucking on and it caught up with me, just as tou described. Being pregant and sick is hard, especially with a toddler (or two). I hope you feel better! And i think i speak for most when i say we love and look forward to ANY and ALL your videos!

Bless you Shayla! I just got back from a holiday to Rome with my husband and 1 year old. She REFUSED to sit on my lap, my husband fell asleep and I was left wrestling with her for the duration of the flight. I gave lots and lots of snacks and brought a busy board to play with but she was more interested in climbing. She fell asleep for the last 10 minutes which was typical! Flying is so hard but worth it ❤

I love that you share the reality of mum life. Winter with kids is sooo hard with the sickness- and it can feel like somehow it’s your fault- like maybe you’re not feeding them the right nutrients etc etc etc- and sure, sometimes that could be the case, but more likely the reality is that kids just get sick all the time. And then you get sick. You’re doing so amazing Shayla! You got this!

Also I love your videos because you're so real! I feel like we're friends because you don't act like an influencer, you're just another mom going through it! Lol so don't feel bad for a low energy video, it was still impactful! 😊

Ah you’re doing amazing! Thank you for sharing and I’m sorry you feel so crappy. If you can-I know it sucks to pay for the seat though-I recommend getting a seat for everyone if your plane doesn’t have a good amount of leg room. We flew to Hawaii with our newly walking, then-14 month old, and my husband and I still laugh about how exhausting that flight was keeping him on our laps. Either way, you’ll make it and you’ll end up in a beautiful place, and that helps everyone take a breath 😊 I will be checking out that harness-thank you!!

This video was hugely helpful and spoke to what I've been going through. I'm working on preparing myself mentally to be ready to have another baby, while also dealing with the clinginess off my 9 month old. I just traveled alone for the first time with my daughter, and it was hard, but also I think way less stressful than I thought it would be because of just letting go of the things I could not control.

I felt stupid for worrying so much for something that ended up being normal for everyone else 😂then she slept on the stroller for like 3hours while we toured and ate and all so it was nice that she could rest ❤

I read oh crap potty training. it breaks potty training down in blocks. Block 1 ( 4 days naked) , block 2 pants/dress (no diaper). block 3 planned small outings. I blocked off the living room with a small potty that was easily accessible. for the smaller planned outing we went potty before leaving and brought the potty with us to use at every transition.
I started at 20 months. took about 2 weeks to get foundation. and at 24 months she was vocalizing that she had to go pee. accidents still happen but that's okay

Know everyone is on their own journey. Has a different budget, different priorities but always doing the best with what they know!
If they ask for help give it to them! If they don’t, support them on their choices! One person may focus on non toxic and organic while the other is focused on eco friendly and low waste, and the other emotions and self care.
We can’t be 100% at alllll of these things or we’d go wild.
So if you find yourself being a little judge mental (good awareness!) find things you think they’re doing well!! 🫶🫶

Hope you are your family start feeling better and healthy soon! Long-time viewer (is it crazy I go back and rewatch some of them repeatedly?? 😂) I can say I honestly love the conversational, real videos. Love me a fellow Midwest girlie too
Some ideas (sorry if they are too similar to videos you've done in the past):
-- Qualities you hope to foster in your kids and how you're doing that (i.e. resiliency, empathy, etc.)
-- Book club -- More in-depth conversation on the books you frequently mention in your videos or even new ones. Likely a lot of video content ideas within that too if you do sub-topics.
-- You used to mention your motherhood "toolbox" a bit (like different types of mom friends)... What is in it now? What do you wish was in it that isn't yet?
-- Things you and Seth do outside of parenthood and work (together or individually)... goals you have, things you accomplished, hobbies that are just for you, things to connect with each other, etc.
I know there are so many product videos out there, but found myself interested in a "third-time mom updated baby registry" type video from you -- like how you reviewed the first registry video just before your second was born. I think you have great, real, no-nonsense perspectives and now more experience under your belt!

I have 4 kids and have flown all over the world including 10h+ flights. I highly recommend buying a seat if your kid is over 8m old. It makes a huge difference, especially if they are wiggly and might kick the seat in front of you. It makes it easier to bring more stuff for the kids. Honestly you could probably save the money you spend just by packing sunscreen and snacks and snorkeling stuff or beach toys because all that stuff is way more expensive in Hawaii.

How am I actually doing? I'm still bleeding nearly 10 weeks postpartum. Apparently I shouldn't have been lifting my 32 pound 18 month old starting week 3 of postpartum or gone on walks even though it was in the 60s in February in Minnesota, or done laundry, or taken my two kids out of the house until I was healed from birth. Since I didn't rest long enough, I'm now paying for it and being told to lay as much as possible. It's been a struuuuggle mentally and physically.

AIRPLANE HACK!! My pediatrician said she’d give her kids lollipops/ suckers while the plane was ascending/ descending for them to be sucking. Worked like a charm! (Also, love you and your videos) 💕

A video on home birth, birth center or hospital birth? I'd love your perspective on this, if it isn't too personal! You're a trooper, thanks for the video.

I found a hospital I loved and that’s where I felt the safest. Maybe with a doula who has experience with all of them on my podcast!!

Loved this video!! Thank you for your authenticity. Question: did you always plan to have three? How did you know you wanted multiple? I’m just curious because I am so indecisive on if I want another kiddo or not. Maybe it can be included in your biggest fear about three kids video

I always knew I wanted at least 2 but after two I switched to 3-4 and I think we’re done.
It’s a hard decision but for me I think about life not just these little years.
It’s a hard decision and lots of VERY real factors. Money, support, schedules, mental capacity etc. 🫶

I’m not sure if you have done it but tips for road trip with babies. I think you talked about the baby camera for the car but an update if it was worth it.

No baby camera for the car here.
Long trips we do tablets, otherwise eye spy, stopping every 2 hrs, portable potty in the car and pleeeenty of snacks. I also like to time it around nap time

Oh and i had a question- you said you didn't have as much postpartum with your second- is that because you did placenta encapsulation (or am i making that up, i can't remember if you did that or not) i don't plan to do placenta encap. So any tips on voiding off postpartum anxiety or depression would be great

    • @heyshayla
      @heyshayla  2 месяца назад +2

I think it was the placenta encapsulation! I also read “the first 40 days” and that helped a tooooon to nourish me and shift my mindset around postpartum. Even if I couldn’t follow it exactly

I love hearing that you feel so supported by your husband that you don’t need any extra hands in the room🥰❤️
That’s such a unique beautiful experience I wish all partners were as great as yours! Have you considered trying to talk Seth into doing a “how to help your labouring wife” video? Or possibly doing it for him with his main tips and tricks. There’s not too many videos about how men can help their wives that are by men themselves.
