2:02 - the best quote ever.

I can literally listen to Ricky's voice all day long..... Wish he did audio-books....
Kasper Bond XFM with Karl Pilkington, Ricky Gervais ! Audio book :)
Kasper Bond XFM / Ricky Gervais show...
Kasper Bond He talks to Mr. K Dilkington all the time.
Jeremiah Casto You are one of our most valuable customers sir har.
+Kasper Bond He did actually do an audiobook but no one seems to know or care about it, he read the audiobook CD for his own Flanimals book.
It's not exactly a literary classic (nor was it meant to be) but the way he says some of the stuff made me laugh anyway, and I already have the book :P
This is important. You can not like a joke and find it offensive if it's about something you are sensitive about. The point is you don't have to then try to yell at everyone about how you found it offensive, in the attempt to change people's minds and feel the same as you do. It's fine to voice your distaste for a joke, that's your right. But expecting people to never say anything that offends you is unrealistic and reveals your selfishness and shallowness.
AGREED
Being easily offended by things regardless of their context is caused by insecurity. People who are insecure prefer not touching subjects that make them uncomfortable even though touching those subjects are exactly what help in distinguishing that discomfort.
Talking about things is what helps you understand it in a deeper level and therefore you won't get hurt by it.
The thing about being mature is that things that you understand don't have the power to hurt you anymore. So if everything makes sense to you, you should be very secure of anything that comes your way.
Your view is flawed, making jokes that are simply disrespectful and isn't funny, the only people who find racist jokes funny are racists, people who find homophobic jokes funny are homophobes people
@DJHart Thank youuuuu
@Atomic Scarecrow this isn't a good thing to use in an argument, if you're making a joke that's just being racist to a specific race or a misogynistic joke or a homophobic joke you're not doing anything but attacking a specific group of people, and you're not selfish for not wanting people to constantly make jokes that are just attacking you and your family and friends, its selfish of you and the person you're replying to to think that you should be allowed to be a shit person under the excuse that it's a joke and have 0 consequences
Jane looks so proud in the background.
I think she made a new friend
I can't believe people still find Rickys humour offensive, could u imagine the sort of mental breakdown America would have if we sent over Paul chowdhry or frankie Boyle
by "we" I mean the UK
Paul Chowdhry? Nice, must check him out.
Sam Obviously a bit like when us Aussies sent over Jim Jefferies
Britain sent him to the US, he was never famous here until he made it in th USA
Jimmy Carr was too raw for us, had to send him back lol
This made my day.... I was on the search and typed "Is dark humor bad to have?" and this came up and it helped me a lot. I'm thankful for this and this man thank you world T^T
There's a difference between jokes and insults. Most people just don't realize this.
Insults have a more condescending demeanor. Jokes have a Im a Buffoon and you're a buffoon scenario. It's kind of hard to explain a difference, but it kind of runs on instinct or a sixth sense of sorts. However sometimes you can do both of them at once. For example you trip on ice, the guy laughs at you, then he trips on ice, and gives you a 'you saw nothing' look. You break out in laughter, he flusters in embarrassment making it funnier in your perspective.
It depends what you find insulting
Fucking nerd
The diffrence between joke and insulte is the same diffence between noise and music! The difference is only in the construction!
A joke break the continuity in the story you tell. It's the rupture, the discontinuity between what is expected and what is told.
For example : "I walk in a street with my wife a skinny guy gets mugged for his money by a group of 5. My wife ask me if I will help. I said "no 5 is enough""
All jokes are around the punchline, the fall ! here it's the rupture between what is expected. Call the police or help the skinny guy. And the answer given!
It can be about rape, racism, killed, pedophilia, wars, disease. All the mater is the contruction (work)!
Most of the time they are both, though.
rape is terrible but I think people like to talk about it until it becomes out of context, in other words, people take these topics too seriously
two amazing comedians
Agreed, especially Sam Roberts.
the amount of people on here who still dont get it are the exact same people that ricky talks about. do people not think before they post a comment. stupidity of some people is actually astounding. I didnt believe that people that ignorant actually exist. I DO NOW
Brian McMonagle you didn't believe theres people that ignorant ?? damn.. I been knowing that a majority of the world is horrendously ignorant.
+Brian McMonagle (Fuzz) sadly the world is filled with these idiots, who struggle to even be open to understanding.
Offence is taken, not given. A joke is a joke. t's nothing else. It's not actually a bad thing. It's actually trying to be positive in something negative. And someone actually said there isn't a comic that can do a rape joke and have their career in ruins. I can quickly name you two , who are growing in popularity. Jimmy Carr and Frankie Boyle.
Frankie Boyle's career definitely isn't in ruins, his comedy company's profits have doubled since last year, look it up man
pinkletoes You didn't understand what he typed.
+Dunkey LongLostSon It's true ! and 2 guys gave it thumbs up LOL
Miguel M
I don't think you can qualify them as people.
@Dunkey's Long Lost Son - True, he didn't but it wasn't helped by th OP's poor phrasing, which could be read as the opposite of what was intended. :)
"What a strange door policy."
His world view is so similar to mine that it's very refreshing to know that people like us are normal.
I really like the end where he explains that he has stuff too and what offense is.
its more than "i wanna tell risky jokes and you shouldnt care" its why and pretty smart
I make jokes about my depression. I feel like laughter is a brilliant way to get over stuff and cheer up about it, and it helps with my depression. Though people are allowed their own opinions on if they find a joke offensive, but don't make people not have a laugh and a joke, especially if it helps them get over whatever they're dealing with
Why does it matter. Im offended. So what? Nothing happens if youre offended. Its just you not understanding that its a joke.
+go shoot ya self - Not necessarily. I'd hardly consider myself the PC Police, but there is such a thing as an empty statement which is intended to inflame, agitate, or threaten. The line from "joke" to slander/bigotry/inciting violence is *extraordinarily broad*, however. You are correct though, just because a person is offended doesn't (automatically) mean they're in the right. The right to free speech does not protect the type of speech ordinary individuals find palatable, in fact it's the opposite. Not that it matters aside from context where I'm personally coming from, but Gervais has never had me clutching my pearls, and I've been exposed to damn near everything he's ever done at this point. Cheers!
The simple rule of comedy: either everything is fair game to make fun of, or NOTHING is.
this is so good!
This was perfection
The way things are going, we won't need oppressive gov'ts to censor free expression in the future. Ordinary people will beat the inspiration out of each other.
That's how it's been achieved. That flow is directed.
Oh boy
@@haapla7614 Oh boy indeed, can't even say any *dark* jokes because the cops start shooting instantly ! Honestly though, with how things are going I'm starting to want to break free UNABOMBER from the jail, dude was more right than anyone thought at that point and it's scary...
Great insights into humour...
I've loved Ricky for decades - for his humour, humanity, his love of animals :)
Of course, as a woman, I find his RAPE jokes particularly funny, lol... and I'm sure his male fans are really looking forward to hearing more great jokes about male CASTRATION, lol...
amazing opinions, Ricky
A super fancy way of describing "butt-hurt" 😘👆😂
I love this man, he is so intelligent I wish I could explain things and get my point across like he can so easily do. If only more people had his views, he strongly believes in animal rights! His humour and good nature make me melt a little bit... (slightly in love) haha.
Same
Is that Jane in the back? Adorable!
Love Ricky 👍😎
The real annoying part of people bitching about offensive jokes is them claiming it makes you less of a person
Thats what it takes to be great my friend.
Some of the comments below are quite hilarious. RUclips does show up some very strange people who cannot understand a simple logical point but have probably been told to be offended because someone is making a joke out of a taboo subject.
This was so goddamned funny I stopped paying attention to the video just to LMAO. Well done, Meg.
Damn Opie grew an afro! 😂
I can't remember what the clip is from but its Ricky telling the graped joke. I was hoping it was here.
I love Ricky so much 😂
It's funny, I was looking at the picture, while thinking of a Clockwork Orange! Second choice hands down HERE'S JOHNNY!!!
haha ricky is fkin ace!! love him
Jane is attractive
Steve needs to pop up when Gervais starts improvising.
Amen.
Ricky definitely gets something very right: for a lot of people, it's not so much that there's simply a joke that involves rape being told, it's when there's a joke that makes the rape victim a punchline that a lot of people get offended, as they might feel that the comedian is thus socially "normalizing" rape by making it humor fodder. Comedy really should know no bounds in terms of subject matter, but nuance is certainly a factor.
Nice to see Jane's with all her friends in the background
I didn't think I was going to like what he was saying about rape at first, I was like wtf? (as a survivor) but once I heard it I was actually really happy he brought it up as a lot of people think things like oh my god if you have been raped how can you ever laugh again, did the rapist not ruin your life and take away all your joy in life? And the answer is no bitc* why is that what you would like? In fact being raped made me even more joyous in life and often I laff my ass off at how sad and pathetic rapists are.
Gervais is a very funny man.
I may get shit for this, but I don't like rape jokes because of personal experiences. And yeah, jokes help and maybe someday I may get to a point where I can hear some jokes about it without being reminded of it. But not ONCE will I say someone can't make specific jokes or they are horrible for doing so. I either skip those jokes or tune out if they start to bother me. That's just me though, and I'm probably going to get shit for not liking the jokes and shit but, eh. I voiced my side and opinions on it.
Nah, no-one has a problem with you not liking those types of jokes. That's completely understandable, I'm sure I would feel the same way if I or someone I know had type of shit happen to them. People have a problem with someone telling a person that made a rape joke that you can't make a joke about it because it offends them.
The difference is that you’re not whining and getting needlessly offended by these types of jokes compared to most people on Twitter nowadays. You can be a fan of dark humour and not like these types of jokes, it’s fine as long as you don’t act aggressively or act like a snowflake, which you’re comment isn’t doing, so your good in my book.
Nobody has a problem with you not liking jokes and not tuning them out.
It's a problem if you insist that celebrities that make them be cancelled and brand everyone who makes rape jokes as bad people.
Comedy = people being offended. People being offended = making people think about the jokes. People are too sensitive, and sometimes it’s appropriate, other times they just want to bitch about who said what. People have a false sense of comedy if they don’t think they are going to be offended. That is comedy is designed to do.
Jane Fallon (Ricky's girlfriend) is gorgeous. I can see her giggling in the background.
Chip is a better promoter than Sirius. Either way, great vid. Thanks radio wizard.
Look at jimmys tees when he says sirial killers an rapist lol
do they record all the shows though? I thought it was just certain guests?
Ricky GerVAIS, what do we put flowers in him or sumtin'? Fuckin' home run Chipperson.
Thumbnail of this video looks like Ricky has ZZ-Top beard.
More video content please
There are actually people in society that want to be, and look for a reason to be offended.
Getting over it doesn't make it go away.
I respect you alot more now ricky gervais
2:00 I guess he's right
Fascinating how people can not see and understand humour. Is mankind a really advance speices at this moment? There are a few briliant people carrying our society forward in our train of process, and there are a lot of people trying to slow us down.
genius
You forgot to mention the most under appreciated employee at Sirius XM, Primetime Sam Roberts.
Show this to disney...re-hire James Gunn!
The problem with Tosh was that he just got upset and started attacking the heckler and making jokes at her expense, sort of like what happened with Michael Richards (borh incidents happened at the laugh factory).
The dark truth about comedy is that a lot of jokes are dark but people get hurt when it matters to them. Out of sight, out of mind.
People who have great lives don't ever want to visit other's shitty world.
You people may say that I have no sense of humour. I could never joke about certain topics, I was sexually abused when I was younger and the seemingly endless negative impact it had on me later in life has been terrible
Aw I'm sorry, that happened to me when I was 3-6 as well by a neighbor. Everyone reacts differently though, I personally can laugh about dark topics because I need to laugh through the pain but I understand and respect that other people process their pain differently. It's crazy times in the world right now!
Different things are not appealing for different poeple.
A suicide survivor wouldn't like suicide jokes, everyone is different.
Just yesterday someone whom I'm friends with on FB posted something about having a dark sense of humor, something about joking about serious topics or whatever. So, me being me and having a somewhat dark sense of humor, I made a holocaust joke. Something about more laughs being dropped on this post then the Jewish population in the late 1930s and early 1940s. Well, the same person who made that post then said that that wasn't funny at all. So I ended up deleting it and even apologizing to that person directly. But then I got even more shit from someone else saying that it was "disgusting" and that I need to "think before I post." Bitch, it's a post about having a dark sense of humor, what do you expect?!?! Lol.
Steve Trowbridge bunch of kids jumping on the bandwagon. People tend to go with the crowd, especially if they think it makes them look better in the group’s eyes.
I think what’s missed from the discussion is that none of us have some kind of ‘human right’ to go through life without feeling offended. We’ve all been offended and we’ve all offended others. If a comedian offends me with 5% of their jokes and makes me laugh with 50% of their jokes, that’s way better than never offending me and making me laugh with 5% only of their jokes.
what did gervais say that he tweeted at 0:45? I couldn't understand his bloke fucking accent there hahaha
guys i haven't slept
it's 9:11 in the morning time to crash
Lol, pause at 2:36.
did anyone else think Ricky grew a beard Because of the microphone in front of his face?
"Just goin to the gym... just goin to the gym and eatin better."
Pause it at 2:36 . He really loves balloons. Also, that's his carer on the far left.
+Matt Puxty no thats his long time partner jane.
+Nelson Kelly I was talking about the host... And it was a joke.
"There's a real self-centeredness that comes with it when you say "what I feel is appropriate is appropriate, and what you say is inappropriate is inappropriate"" But you're saying the exact same thing, right? You're complaining about what other people find appropriate.
Nathan McKee He's saying there shouldn't be any limits on jokes. He's not trying to deny any people any freedom. While others are trying to restrict what people can't or can say. Do you truly not see the enormous difference between the two?
is that a picture of Vos on the door
I spy........ Jane.
< 3
there is not enough like on this video. LIIKEEE LIIKEEE MORE PEOPLE LIIKEEE
Barbara Streisand was really looking young seated behind Ricky.
Girl in the background looks amused.
well spotted mate, im 24 and I would!
Lol he told the same joke on netflix lol
This is partly why Opie and Anthony get such good guests coming back time and again, it's because they let the guests talk. They've got personalities themselves rather than most people who these celebrities are interviewed by, but they don't dominate the conversation.
Erock Army Nigga
"This is comedy sweetheart. Somebody's gonna get hurt. Today it was your turn." - Bill Burr.
Jimmy's eyes always scare the shit out of me.
So when i hear a joke about a suffering/dying animal, i should say "yeah, that would be a great joke, im just too much involved emotionally, hence i find it offensive. But i shouldnt take offence, because - objectively - the joke was excellent." ("It depends what the joke is.") I think there certainly are moral borders in humour too. Not so many, but there are.
"Stupid people treat jokes about bad things with the same fear and loathing as intelligent people treat the actual bad things" - that is simply perfect! Here in Brazil, justice is punishing a comedian (Leo Lins) wich made jokes in a show people paid to watch. They're not judges, they are a bunch of brat children running processes, thinking they're making justice...
It should read;
"To see More Opie and Anthony vids, check the fans vids, because we're Sirius, and we don't give a shit!"
lol
That door policy joke is funny. Indeed not because it makes fun of rape. In fact, the it does the opposite. It puts a plaster on the subject of rape in a humerous way.
The point of the joke was that Tosh's sister has a sicker sense of humor than he does. So much so, that she finds getting rapped because Daniel replaced her pepper spray with silly string a funny practical joke.
The Opie and Anthony show with Jim Norton and Louis CK would be as popular as the Joe Rogan experience if it was a podcast and filmed like this
poon likka is a heckler.
Can't relax for a moment and has to judge every tiny detail, it must be hell to be that 'OCD' so I think people should just understand that he/she has a war going on in his/her mind and uhmmm be kind.
That's why a bad constructed joke is just plain offensive, because it doesn't make you laugh. In order to appreciate a joke, you have to find it funny, because that's the purpose of jokes. To make you laugh and get over bad things!!
Ricky and Jim' discussions are now cast into history and will never be repeated on Sirius, since Sirius fired Anthony for venting about black violence after being physically assaulted by a black woman in the street. basically sirius now has nothing to offer so you will get none of this if you subscribe anymore.
Genius
Holy shit you guys fit musical acts in there?
Tosh got slammed because he fucked up his response to a heckler. He lost his cool and made a statement that sounded more like a threat than an actual joke. Yes, there are some people who miss the point and criticize ANY rape reference regardless of context, but the criticism I agree with tends to focus on jokes that make the victim the punchline. The jokes that don't recognize that, yes, this is a horrific thing we're discussing. It's a hard thing to do and few comedians can walk that line.
Heres my philosophy of humor. If you've ever laughed a joke someone else may find offensive, then you have no right to be offended. Tragedy + Time = Humor.
Who are you saving all the O & A footage for? Why cant we ever see more than a few minutes?
Jane?
Who's that weird Jew fro guy at the end?
Sam
Sam Roberts
It’s Pete Davidson’s way of coping with his dad’s death
