We LOVED our trip to The Philippines and we went to 14 different places in total from going all the way up North to Vigan, to the islands down South with the bluest water we have ever seen! 🇵🇭 We enjoyed many adventures together in this beautiful country and tried as much food as we could fit in too! We would really appreciate any recommendations and ideas for our next trip, anything we missed? Where do you think we’d enjoy exploring next? it's takes a lot of work to take the husks off the rice to make them edible that's why the saying "rice is life" in the Philippines is taken seriously even though it's usually stated in a jovial manner.
it's amazing to think that all those terraces are made by hand. they literally sculpted and shaped mountains using their bare hands that took centuries.
@@Onthemovetravelstories it is the only wonders of the world that didnt force the people to do it. I mean they did it for their living not by somebody who dictate or force them to.
James made your money worth , its not just a trek , but introduces the beetle nut chewing which makes your teeth strong , and the self-sufficient pounding of rice for family consumption . It retains more of its nutrients than rice mill . And that traditional house!!! I sit for an hour in the corner of it , just immersing myself on its tranquility & spectacular view ( betwern 4-5 pm ) . Someday , i will visit Batad again.
It's betel nut dear. And whoever told you that chewing that nut is good for your teeth is lying. On the contrary, regular chewing of betel nuts causes tooth decay, and gum disease and can also lead to oral cancer. Don't take my word for it, you can research and find it out yourself. In this time and age of advanced technology and increasing knowledge, I expect people to be a bit more responsible in blurting out things and not just rely on old beliefs, sayings, and obsolete knowledge. We have to constantly upgrade our understanding of things to keep abreast with time.
You're right there's so many rice terraces in Asia like in China, Indonesia, Vietnam but in the Philippines is so unique coz it's the oldest and the largest in the world
In my younger years our grandma did that kinda weird smoking in the province. She wrapped the brown thing with a leaf and chewed it. She called it "nga-nga" 😊
I grew up in New Jersey and been to Philippines numerous times but never had a chance to visit the rice terraces or Bagiuo. Hopefully before i die, i will see those places.
You are so brave i admire you on the move blogs.Because youre only two female going places here in php.thanks for loving our country.Like the local says its more fun in the philippines.take care and God bless you two.
I think this is a hidden paradise. It's very beautiful. The activity of eating leaves is added to some of the ingredients, which in Indonesia is called "nginang", the ingredients are betel leaf, Gambir lime, betel nut, then after chewing put tobacco on the lips. Greetings from Indonesia
Oh… now I miss home. Last time I went to Batad was 14 years ago. They say if you are from an area, you tend to miss out on what other people see… I grew up in Ifugao and I’m still in awe everytime I see it. Perhaps it’s because we attribute it more as our link to our ancestors just imagining how they carried those rocks from the bottom of the mountain to create those terraces without any tools. As for the betel nut chewing, this is mostly in the Ifugao region. It does not have any particular health benefits but it is like having coffee and cigarette after a big meal but without the risk of lung cancer. 😂 And because of the lime, you rarely see plaque in their teeth but it does harm the gums overtime. People say the Banaue rice terraces is the 8th wonder of the world, although not officially, as a UNESCO heritage site, it is still a place worth visiting.
Well you come from a very beautiful part of the Philippines 😊 thank you for sharing all that information and how incredible are people building that 2000 years ago! 😊

Yes, traditional house in the Cordilleras. But, if you travel around the Philippines, you would notice we have many types of traditional houses because there are many different Filipino ethnicities with different languages and cultures. Many people outside the Philippines do not know this so I feel compelled to share, haha. But, I do want to hike around those rice terraces one day and hopefully even get a traditional tattoo.
Another great vlogs 😍 you were blessed with a much better weather as well and hiking the rice terraces is such an amazing experience. My dad used to chew beetle nut and it stains the mouth 😅. Looking forward to more! 🇵🇭🇦🇺🙌
Wow! I admire how you filmed how to chew "Nga-Nga" my grandma used to chew that, instead of cigarette or cigar that was their favorite past time.
