- In 2023 Modern Drummer visited Staind drummer Sal Giancarelli and drum tech Mark Bennett at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida. They gave us a detailed rundown of Sal's Mapex Saturn Evolution Series drums, along with all the tools and gear required for the Staind gig.
This was filmed prior to the death of original Staind drummer Jon Wysocki. Jon passed away on May 18th, 2024. In a statement on Instagram regarding the loss of his friend, Sal Giancarelli wrote: “Truly Thankful, to be a part of Jon’s life for 12 years. MANY incredible memories were made in that time. My heart hurts……….. My deepest sympathies for his family, his friends, his band mates in Lydia’s Castle and to Aaron Lewis, Mike Mushok, and Johnny April.
His beats, his ability to create ‘Drum Hooks’, his contribution to Music, and especially to the drumming community, will never be forgotten.”

Sal has done a hell of a job since taking over the drumming duties in Staind, I honestly believe he’s honored Jon and his parts faithfully. Great work Sal.
I’m a fellow owner and lover of the 21” Sweet Ride. Possibly the most versatile ride ever made. To me, it’s perfect.
Dream kit!
Hey what's up sal my name is Matthew Hart I'm 37 me & my family are originally from Springfield MA staind is my favorite local band but I have to say dude you are a beast on the drums you are such a awesome drummer I'm sure Jon Wysocki would be proud of you may he rest in peace 🙏 my dad used to be a professional drummer when I was born & when I was alittle kid but sadly he didn't pursue it & sal I never met you but you seem like a really cool dude & hope you will be with staind as long as possible cause again your a beast on the drums
So cool to see a Aero Precision sticker on his table attachment 🤘🏻
Great video, awesome kit! The Ahead Spinal Glide really works! I had a back issue once and I got the Ahead Spinal Glide and has been incredible! That tech guy is awesome 👍👍 Keep Rockin' guys! DC
I wish everyone would talk about their microphones and overheads. Probably useless info but I’d still want to hear about it. Thanks ✌🏻✌🏻
It's not up to him I suspect.
Nice!
Mark knows his stuff. He’s the dude if you need a drum tech. 🤘🏻🥁🤘🏻
Bello/Magnifico.💪✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️
Sonor and Mapex are easy to tune in my experience.
If I may add up on the topic
Sal used to play Yamaha and their are better. I love the sound of Sonors and Mapex was the very first serious kits for me, but yamaha beats them in terms of tuning
To each their own but yeah
I use the same camo cympads! haha
Hey they wrote a song for me many years ago pal
do u have the issue w the interview w leonard haze of y&t? thanks
💥💥💥💥❤
That throne, though 😬🥴😂
What’s so revolutionary about that tom mounting system, exactly? They’ve been mounting toms without interfering with the top rim since invention of the drum set.
Have they really though?, I don't think they have .
Slingerland had a clip mount system going no later than the 1950s. It didn’t interfere with the lugs or the hoops, so I’m not sure what the selling point of this is other than being a different way to do it.
@@jacedaniel yea, it's all marketing mumbo jumbo
seems like a good guy, he could throw in and "RIP" to Jon though.
This was filmed last year. Read video description for Sal’s remarks about Jon.
10" tom sounds bad, imo
All 10” toms sound bad!
@@Mike_Webb78...not if tuned correctly with a quality head and dampening that provides the desired sound.
Nice kit, terrible band
Amazing band
