Leaving the court wide open for a ball your teammate can reach is a bad idea, but I wonder if the other teammate should just immediately react to cover the open court...
The near court male is leaving his backhand side open. The far court lefty lady should have dropt the ball to his backhand more to keep him from poaching. The few times they did that, the male had to reach for his backhand resulting in the far court point.
I'm new to pickleball, so just asking--Is it normal for one partner to constantly be in their partner's space? The guy in the white shorts is constantly in his partner's side taking all the shots. First time I have seen it to this extent. Actually, the more I watch the more irritated I become. He actually almost runs her off the court trying to get in front of her.
This is common in mixed tournament play. The man is generally the better player and has significantly more power, so he plays on the left side and takes as many shots as possible with his forehand. It might look crazy, but it's simply a matter of doing everything possible to win. If one player is better, it only makes sense to have them hit as many balls as possible.
The number 1 male in the world (Ben Johns) and the number one female A Waters play just like this. The female in this match is targeted as the weaker player and would get 90% of balls hit at her thus freezing out the other player. This is why its done.
@@NKG13 lol, I really am - Two months and admittedly not good yet. :) I guess I have just never seen it to this extent in what I have watched. It just seemed he literally almost knocked her over in some cases, but to each their own - it's their partnership. :)
At the highest levels it’s very common and beneficial strategically. It’s nothing to do with gender and everything to do with preventing targeting. Left side players generally control the court and are supposed to take more balls otherwise the weaker player can get targeted without any repercussions.
Thanks for posting this.

That was annoying how the leggings lady was targeted the whole game. Glad the guys won.
