Correction regarding which team was undefeated in the bracket: Juli Felton/Aaron Miller were in the winner's bracket and Bara Sebkova/Paul Johnson were coming out of the loser's bracket. Someone told me the opposite before the match started and I repeated the incorrect info during the video. Sorry for the mixup. Fantastic playing by both teams!
I’ve been watching your videos from Nationals this week and you’ve done a really nice job. Commentary is spot on. Pickleball is going to need announcers. You have my vote!
Thank you for posting. Glad this shows why we were so adamant about not giving away a point that wasn't earned especially when we walked the referee through each point of the third game. He refused to listen and actually believe he could be incorrect. This moment broke momentum and turned the crowd against us heavily which was frustrating just because we pushed to make sure we didn't get cheated. Not to mention the other team knew they didn't score a point. You can see in the video they go directly to their correct positions since they had zero. Sorry for the rant. Lol. But that was extremely irritating to deal with. Great commentary by the way. You should look into handling the ppa broadcast.
Yeah they knew they hadn't scored yet. I can understand confusion in the middle of the game occasionally. Here, the game had just started, they knew it was 1-0-1, but they were happy to take the free point. Did they ever try to describe what happened on the play where they supposedly scored?
@@byudrew16 they were pretty much quiet the entire conversation. The ref asked if they scored and they said they didn't know. We asked how did you score the point and they obviously couldn't/didn't answer. When the head ref was called the other team proceeded to tell him they think they scored a point. We replayed every point to the ref. It was 6 points and my whole argument was I could understand maybe messing up the score halfway through the game but not after 6 points. The fans in the background, which you cannot hear on the video, were obviously supporting their team but were also trying to give input on the situation saying they scored. Not that it matters but other people screaming from the stands makes the ref feel even more like he is correct. And to add to it we got a technical warning because we called the head ref supposedly with no basis.... and a timeout taken away from us for the ref being wrong. We talked to him after the match further (he approached us to talk). The ref said there we should not have called the head ref because he would just agree with the on court ref. So I asked him "so when the ref is completely wrong about the score, are we just supposed to sit there and take it?" His response was "yes, absolutely"..... I said "that is the worse advice I have ever been given." He watched this video after the match and gave a round about apology after seeing he was clearly in the wrong and proceeded to be a jerk. To keep things non bias I was barking at him a lot after this happens so I'm sure he was a little annoyed. But he deserved it. Lol.
@@aaronmiller4830 Glad this didn't cause you to lose. If the ref thought it was 1-1-2, then he must have thought that you guys had just served, too. So not only had he given them a point that never happened, he thought you had faulted already on your serve. And if that was your serve, why would you not get another point for the rally you just won?
@@byudrew16 I've went through this scenario as well and don't understand. After the other team hit the ball in the net he said point instead of sideout in the video. At worse we should have gotten the point but not sure how hitting the ball into the net and winning a point makes sense. He initially said 1-1-1 and after the discussion he said 1-1-2. He was just thoroughly confused. It happens but the arrogance he had that he couldn't be wrong was unreal.
Paul and Bara should be embarrassed and feel like doo doo. They knew they were in the wrong and did absolutely nothing to correct it. Is winning worth a guilty conscience? Is getting a point you don't deserve worth contaminating the entire gold medal match. They look young but I hope they learn a lesson - that integrity is everything, both in sports and in life. Paul and Bara - do the right thing and send an email to the winners and the ref. Apologize, admit you were wrong, and congratulate the winning team. You will feel so much better.
This was a great example of how to not get rattled by a bad call and equally bad opponent not fessing up to their true score. I'd of been pissed! But you guys didn't change your game and you stayed solid! I don't know either of the teams but I was pulling for you because I re-wound the video and saw that you were right!
Great commentary John! So interesting to watch how the scoring dispute was handled. The ref should have taken you up on your offer to play back the video footage!
If you listen at the end of the point before when the girl in pink hit it in the net; the ref calls 'point' for her team! That's how he saw a point on his score sheet. They did not earn that point.
The score should have been 1-0-1. The far team players switched positions when they shouldn't have, making it seem like they had a point, but they didn't. Integrity is the #1 rule in pickleball. They knew for a fact they didn't have a point.
Thank you for this video. So glad the non-cheating team won. They deserved the gold. The other team knew very well they didn't have a point and it's amazing to me how they silently, changed position, to look like they did have a point. Must be well versed in unethical, win at all costs, play.
At 27:51, when the ref incorrectly calls it 1-1-2, it is clear this ref is unqualified to call a game. I’m hoping there is a governing body at this point. By the way, scoring is the most basic and most important part of the game. If you can’t get this right, get out.
Looks like a great 4.0 matchup as you would expect from a tournament final. Armchair comments about cheating are bizarre. Cheating requires intent. I can vouch that in the heat of a tournament, especially when stacking, it is easy to get confused. It’s better to give everyone the benefit of the doubt. Good play, everyone!!!
Paul and Bara....I hope you both watch this game and see that you cheated. You both should be permanently banned from all future competitive play and publicly apologize to the winning team.

Aaron has an illegal serve as of 2023
Lots of chippy comments on the court. Not the best example of sportsmanship I’ve seen before but. Nice job on the video.

Hardest paddle taps - or more like slaps- I’ve ever seen in my life!! I hope they only do that with each others paddles. Good Lordy
Its 1-0-1.... girl in pink and white outfit team needs to speak up and say so!!
They should they knew, and they did not.
@@chesterw6161 No honor. Is that how you really want to win?

Do you mean 23:51?
Paul and Bara should have fessed up to the obvious mistake instead of try to take advantage to the referees obvious error

Good play, everyone!!!
They all are good players. I think the lady in pink should dink less to the forehand and keep the short returns lower. The opponent is killing those.
Paul and Bara cheated!! Stop end of story!
After the 1st volley I can tell you no way these are 4.0.
3.5 on their absolute best day... maybe !!!
it was not 1 1
cheering on errors is annoying imo
Aaron needs a reality check
🤣 two handed back hand. Smh

The score was 1 to 0
