The penalties could've easily been like 8-4 - Florida just takes penalties. That said, I'm positive that Maurice is playing the games a good coach plays with officials
Exactly this. I just posted this comment. Florida hacks, whacks and claws at opponents. They’re dirty and they know the refs are only going to call a fraction of the penalties in the playoffs so they go ahead, hacking, whacking, body slamming away, getting away with most of it. Leafs are actually a really good PP team, shame they couldn’t have taught them a lesson with special teams. Maurice says the same thing in every series of every season with the teams he coaches when asked about his team taking questionable, over the line - type penalties, “check the docket and you will see how heavily we have been penalized”, but in reality, as I pointed out, it is only a fraction of what is really going on. A pattern by Maurice or a tactic at this point…
Unbiased fan here. I thought the officiating was pretty good this game. The typical misses on both sides but it’s playoff hockey they’re not gonna call every little thing. Maurice is just letting it be known that continuing on in this series that he wants a few calls to go his way, or he’s gonna cause shit. I’m sure he knows this game was called pretty fairly
That first elbowing penalty could have also been called charging. The Florida player (was it Bennett?) totally left his feet on that hit. That’s charging every day.
It's not so much that the Panthers committed and we're called for penalties. It's that their opponents (Boston and Toronto, last night) are hardly called for any when they almost run as much interference, hold and commit a similar number of fouls. I love how Maurice reminded the refs of the lopsided calls. No yelling, no screaming, just gang signs lol
Stop coping bruh you know the league calls the bruins for more penalties than any other team and I hate the bruins just stop with the nonesense though it looks idiotic🤣🤣🤦♂️🤦♂️
@@calebchilds472 coping? Who lost again? Lol but I'm not a fan of either team, just want to see fun and fair playoff hockey. Are you going to sit behind your cheeto crumb-covered keyboard and tell me that the refereeing has been equal? Especially in the Boston/Florida series?
It's just a boiling point. This game was officiated pretty well but Maurice has been seething since the Game 1 of the first round. If you watched the Boston - Florida game 7, the refs absolutely tried to hand the game to the Bruins as soon as the Panthers got the lead.
Yeah just showing what gets called doesn't really give you a full picture. Maybe he's right that there exists some bias against Florida in what gets called, maybe not, but it would take quite rigorous video analysis of all incidents over a larger sample of games to be sure.
I hear ya, but when I hear that argument I also make the argument that they miss calls on both ends. Like we can see even in this video on the Bunting call, O'Reilly is just getting cross checked with a passion. Really, every team gets away with a lot in the playoffs and I think Florida being one of the most penalized teams all year is going to carry over. Buddy has to realize he's coaching the guys to be goons.
@Kyle Stremick yes every game players are in situations where a penalty can be called, it becomes a problem when the panthers get nailed for those situations but the opponent doesn't. If you're going to call it tight on 1 team you have to call it tight on both and the refs haven't been doing that.
@@justinmiller5660 I'd disagree on that for this game. It was called loose for both teams. Really only 4-2 calls and let's be fair, Florida did a lot more than Toronto, what Paul here wants isn't equality of calls, he wants equity because equity means they both get the same amount of powerplays but his guys can still commit more infractions.
Goals scored on a delayed penalty shouldnt negate the powerplay. You have 6 skaters on the ice anyway, changing your goalie for a forward since the opposition cant touch the puck is just smart player management. Before you disagree, think about how it would go if a delayed penalty is called in the final minute of a game where the goalie is already pulled. Do you add a 7th skater? A delayed call goal is not a goal with a man advantage
I don’t think Mayrice’s issue is the Leafs got 5 PP’s, it’s that the Lesfs apparently played so clean they didn’t do anything to merit giving FLA more thsn 1 PP. Which in a fast, physical playoff game, is highly unlikely.
It's just Maurice trying to play his cards for the next game, trying to influence the refs so they give Toronto more penalties next time. IMO the Leafs played a cleaner game whilst the Panthers came out very strong and physical and of course this will bring more penalties on their end. I'm not underestimating the Panthers but IMO the Leafs will still win this ( I predicted in 6 hehe ). There are "passive" stats that just don't lie. Faceoffs and time spent in enemy zone go in favor of Toronto. Bobrovsky can steal a game or two but the Toronto offense will eventually get the upper hand IMO. I don't think the Leafs are panicking at all, they have matured and will come back strong in game 2. And this comes from a Habs fan!

Remember that high stick late in the third in game 7 in Leafs/Lightning game? Right in front of the ref? Ya, that’s corrupt officiating. Guess what? Gambling has infiltrated the NHL. It’s here. Big time. . And it’s never leaving. Bet MGM, kids!
Canadian teams always get the Hometown discount with regards to penalties. God forbid the NHL Officials change the Game Central from Toronto (ahem homers) to a neutral city. It’s laughable the amount of whining that Leaf fans do considering their obvious advantages. Go Panthers!!
The reason why the ref didn't see the high stick is because his job is to focus on the puck. The other ref near the Neutral zone is responsible for watching for high sticks and the like but he was out of position so he couldn't see it.
So funny how Keefe was whining about the refs every single game against TB and nobody says a word. As soon as another coach says something against the officiating, everyone starts whining about him and making videos about it. Let me guess, Keefe was justified because the refs are out to get Toronto..but if another coach makes a complaint, all of a sudden that coach doesn’t know what they’re talking about. Typical Leaf logic.
Horrible officiating, The MakeMeLaughs defiantly had way more than 1 penalty. Good to know that the Panthers have to beat the refs and the leafs this series.
I want to know why coaches thinks penalties are supposed to be even...if your team plays in a way that causes more offenses then you do more time, pretty basic if you ask me. To call out the refs for a well officiated game is bush league and Maurice should be embarrassed, especially since his team got the win.
they review tape to find out why a guy is bleeding? Sounds like BS to me. Never seen that before. I remember a game earlier in the year when Kyle Connor of the Jets got cut by an obvious high stick while carrying the puck. No call. No review to find out why he was bleeding.
As a panthers fan I must say that I didn't see anything wrong with the officiating. All penalties were justified. This is just mind games he is trying to play with the refs.
NHL really need Toronto to win this serie since the cash cows NYR, Boston and LAK are out. Financially this playoff is a disaster for NHL. Remember, this is about business first, entertainment second and sports third. The refs works for the league and not for some Olympic org.
Came here to say this. It's biased to review only the calls they made. I saw at least two incidents that refs didn't call against Toronto - game delay and tripping
How bout the fact on the one panther goal the Toronto goalie LITERALLY slid out to the left side of the crease & PAST THE CREASE to make contact with one panther player, then skids to the top & PAST THE CREASE to a panther player again completely initiating contact HIMSELF & the broadcast still has the nerve to go “ Goalie interference you think”?? .. What a joke. & Bunting took a TOUCH TO THE FACE of a stick and went flopping down worse than o Rielly and he’s grabbing him little lip checking for blood.. He got the pitiful UNDESERVED call like he always does. Flopping little btch
@@pepepepert My dude, do you watch hockey? If Paul Maurice thought that was GI, he would have challenged it. If the head coach doesn't want to challenge that, then it is a good goal.
The Bennett penalty was the right call because he jumped and aimed for the head. Luckily Kampf saw it coming and raised his arms to protect himself so that's why no one was injured and why the hit looks "legit" if you just look at the lack of damage done. But it was a dangerous hit 100%. I think it's just time to add another referee. Maybe it could be just a veteran ref watching the game on the screen like we do, someone who could stop the play with a whistle like the others, but within a studio and by pressing a button. The game is much faster now and the referees are obviously incapable of following everything that's happening on the ice. The NHL needs to adapt to this new fast paced hockey. In terms of quality, today's hockey is at its prime IMO, it's highly captivating hockey, hard hitting, fast paced, plenty of goals. Even though it's a different game, I think we are very close to how it was back in the 70's with the Lafleurs and Bossys and all in terms of excitement. The last few playoffs have been fantastic and exciting to watch. I would advice to really enjoy it while it lasts because ice hockey is becoming more and more expensive so I reckon in 20 years the game will be played by rich people only because normal wage families won't be able to afford the expenses that come with raising a hockey player. The trend of children of ex-NHL'ers will become the norm, hockey will become inbred, literally.
Maurice is a tactical coach. He knows how to beat the shyte of the other teams. First thing he does it take out the crowd. Then he beats the bangers up. Then jams the neutral zone. 3 -2-Stack at the redline. Other team has to dump and chase. The leafs don’t 4:09 have the firepower for dump and chase with Mathew’s and Marner have friggin eggs in their pockets. Maurice has his players believe that n his system. And they will dispatch the leafs next game. He is a very 4:09 smart guy he has the Stanley cup already. We just don’t know it.
1st panthers penalty was also a charge as the players feet are clearly off the ice. 2nd panthers penalty was an obvious trip. etc, etc... both teams had some missed calls. Panther's were the better team and both goalies played amazing, Bobrovsky was the better of the two.
High sticking was just moot at the end. O'Reilly didnt seem to care because he knew the game was over. Would have been interesting if penalties got carried over to the next game in the playoffs.
Just an FYI game 3 tonight, Cousins gets his lip split open, refs dont call anything even after seeing the blood. No review for him. That should have been a double minor.
Even though I'm cheering for Florida, they got off lightly with that first penalty. NHL Rule 607: Charging. Charging is the action where a player takes more than two strides or travels an excessive distance to accelerate through a body check for the purpose of punishing the opponent. This includes skating or leaving one's feet (jumping) into the opponent to deliver a check, accelerating through a check for the purpose of punishing the opponent, or skating a great distance for the purpose of delivering a check with excessive force. The onus is on the player delivering the check to avoid placing a vulnerable or defenseless opponent in danger of potential injury. Bennet clearly took more than two strides *and* left his feet. It's a charging penalty. I have no idea why it was not called a charge and installed called elbowing. Unless the idea was to let FL off lightly - a charge necessitates a 10 minute misconduct (so Bennet would have to leave the ice for 10 minutes before he could return) in addition to either a minor or a major.
the elbow call was also boarding and charging at the same time while he leaves both his feet to make a hit while t he connecting hit sends buddy into the boards eh , can only assume he took 4t o 5 strides from the blueline to the faceoff circle if hes goin that fast tbh , not a fan of either team but I'm liking this series.
I was disappointed when we hired PoMo because of his track record of never getting teams over the hump. But seeing how players have shined under Maurice, and seeing a third year in a row where the Winnipeg core expressed sour grapes during Cleanout Day, I think he got a bad rap. There's obviously a reason Carolina brought him back for another go and why Winnipeg's front office never saw coaching as an issue needing change.
He's right. The Leafs have been getting extremely soft handed by the refs. It's the only reason they were able to advance. The first hit wouldn't be called if it was a Leafs player doing the hit. Just watch them play against the Lightning. Eyssimont gets elbowed to the face, out for a concussion, but somehow "oh no it wasn't even a minor" or the hit on point in the corner? Any other team that would have been a major but not NHL's pet team this year.
You should watch more hockey. Missed calls go both way’s don’t be a cry baby. Don’t commit a penalty and you won’t get one its a very simple concept that stupid people seem to not understand.
High sticks and trippings are obvious calls. Especially in these particular ones. And that Bennett penalty, elbow or not he left his feet to make that hit.
Fla is going to get far in these playoffs. Every other team cries about the penalties called, but this coach accepts they are coming, and his team finds a way to win regardless. Elite teams that hoist the cup are teams that can find a way to win in any situation and if the panthers cannot be capitlized on while in the box, the leafs are in serious trouble. That said it was one game. Still a ton of hockey to be played and i highly doubt the leafs are out of this yet. Not by a long shot. I just hope they heed fla's warning, that they are here to fucking play. They will not be a push over team like the fans dreamed they would be after finally advancing past the first round. Yall wished you could play the panthers this round instead of boston. Be careful what you wish for, eh?
Exactly. Would you rather play the best regular season team of all time, or would you rather play the team that beat the best regular season team of all time. Tough either way
Florida is younger, hungrier and have a lot to prove as a historically underachieving franchise. On top of that, they beat the Bruins so their confidence is soaring!

I’m a Toronto fan and Paul marice just fired me up, what is going on?
Unbiased fan here. I thought the officiating was pretty good this game. The typical misses on both sides but it’s playoff hockey they’re not gonna call every little thing. Maurice is just letting it be known that continuing on in this series that he wants a few calls to go his way, or he’s gonna cause shit. I’m sure he knows this game was called pretty fairly
He's got to discipline his team or it's going to keep being called.
Thanks for the breakdown bud, I love to play but I'm not one to watch so I appreciate a decent summary, especially living in Leaf country
That first elbowing penalty could have also been called charging. The Florida player (was it Bennett?) totally left his feet on that hit. That’s charging every day.
I thought his hand gesture was suggesting original 6 teams get the favored calls
The only arguments possible are the ones that weren’t called against the leafs. I agree right calls on the ones shown in this video
Game 7 against Boston, there were 4 penalties in a row called on FL. BS calls which was the only reason Boston had a chance in that game.
The hit in the beginning of your video where you were unsure. The player jumped into that check. That could honestly be considered charging.
Paul Maurice is a great coach. Sad to see him go in Winnipeg
And this comes from a Habs fan!
i think the point is , that nothing was being called against the leafs
... what if there's nothing to call... like last night?
@@cdncitizen4700 then you should probably see your eye doctor
@@NorthernGeek ... the one that misses all the infractions when Leafs don't get the PP or 2 man advantage? No way mate... my eyesight's just fine.
@@cdncitizen4700 Hahahahaha. Oh, you're serious? Well let me laugh even harder then.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!
i mean, they had 2 penalties. the game was very fairly called, absolutely nobody would complain about the refs if not for the paul maurice meme-worthy gang signs.
The issue isn't the refs calling penanalties against Florida, it's not calling any penalties for their opponents.
The reason why the ref didn't see the high stick is because his job is to focus on the puck. The other ref near the Neutral zone is responsible for watching for high sticks and the like but he was out of position so he couldn't see it.
No Sound during Maurice's first appearance in the video.
Leafs fans sure are quiet today...
I want to know why coaches thinks penalties are supposed to be even...if your team plays in a way that causes more offenses then you do more time, pretty basic if you ask me. To call out the refs for a well officiated game is bush league and Maurice should be embarrassed, especially since his team got the win.
I figured he was placing his Tim's order.... five sugar, one cream.
I think he threw up the 5 + 1 becasue the leafs had 6 men on the ice. And he was letting his players know.
plot twist: paul was actually signalling to his friend across the rink what meal combo he wanted from Micky D's postgame.
A GAME 1 *GIFT FROM A BOB!*
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🐆
they review tape to find out why a guy is bleeding? Sounds like BS to me. Never seen that before. I remember a game earlier in the year when Kyle Connor of the Jets got cut by an obvious high stick while carrying the puck. No call. No review to find out why he was bleeding.
As a panthers fan I must say that I didn't see anything wrong with the officiating. All penalties were justified. This is just mind games he is trying to play with the refs.
As a Leafs fan, I don't think it's mind-games. I think it's just his excuse for not being able to control his team.
This is a must-win
Not a good elbowing call but it looks like his feet left the ice. In motion it looked clean.
It was most definitely charging. Could be an elbow as well. 3 out of 5 Troubas.
He jumped at him. Definitely a penalty. Maybe not an elbow though.
Laff fans also argued the clearest head shot of all time was clean so any of you who are laff fans please just STFU , your opinion is irrelevant 😅
"Ekbald" I'm dying
Same thing was happening in the Edmonton LA series. I fuckin love Maurice for that 5-1 call out of the refs
NHL really need Toronto to win this serie since the cash cows NYR, Boston and LAK are out. Financially this playoff is a disaster for NHL. Remember, this is about business first, entertainment second and sports third. The refs works for the league and not for some Olympic org.
Well stated.
Stop calling him Ek bald😢
Ekbald... its like no ones even watched a Panthers game before. Apparently the whole team is underrated lol
Don't do the crime if you can't do the time, Paul.
It’s very hard to be mad at paul maurice
I hope the Panthers will win this series.
I think that all the calls were legit but there was 2 high sticking calls against Florida that were missed so I get the coaches frustration
Florida got this BOBROVSKY
Gotta do the non-calls not the actual calls. Did the refs miss any against Toronto? If bunting didn’t end up in the box, then I would think they did.
Came here to say this. It's biased to review only the calls they made. I saw at least two incidents that refs didn't call against Toronto - game delay and tripping
You mean like the missing goalie interference on Toronto's first goal. Can't skate into the goalie then score on him.
@@pepepepert I have to disagree. It was mostly Panther's defence interfering with its own goalie.
A double minor is two penalties. Cause if the Leafs scored in the first two minutes, the Panthers would still have to kill the second two minutes.
I thought it was a sarcastic reference to Toronto as "The Six"
Cry me a river, Paul.
Was wondering what he ment last night lol
The first penalty should have been called as charging, not elbowing. Bennett's feet were off the ice, which makes this a charging infraction.
the elbow call was also boarding and charging at the same time while he leaves both his feet to make a hit while t he connecting hit sends buddy into the boards eh , can only assume he took 4t o 5 strides from the blueline to the faceoff circle if hes goin that fast tbh , not a fan of either team but I'm liking this series.
People need to go back to the 80’s if they are complaint about refereeing
I was disappointed when we hired PoMo because of his track record of never getting teams over the hump.
But seeing how players have shined under Maurice, and seeing a third year in a row where the Winnipeg core expressed sour grapes during Cleanout Day, I think he got a bad rap. There's obviously a reason Carolina brought him back for another go and why Winnipeg's front office never saw coaching as an issue needing change.
NHL coach “ here we go referee is evening up the calls”
Same nhl coach “ that’s 5 penalties against us where’s the calls on them Ref?”
P. Maurice was the last Whalers coach, so he's sacred. Hope he takes it all this season.
I think the Leafs are in trouble
Don’t commit a penalty and you won’t get one its a very simple concept that stupid people seem to not understand.
what a SB coach
Leafs got the right calls for, so no complaints there. However, there were definitely missed calls against them
I wonder if those calls went against the other team for the exact same infraction, if he would be complaining? I doubt it.
The squeaky wheel man squeaky wheel wait and watch the next one
The reality is leafs were out played. Dunno why leafs Manger crying about. Not fan of either team, but panthers got their mojo going.
The Leafs were outplayed in every game last series with the exception being Game 2, but the scoreboard tells a different outcome.
I find it funny that they will go and review the play well after it happened for the leafs but when Evander kane gets slashed and bleeds there is nothing, and eric Karlsson gets slashed and bleeds he gets ejected.
Think you forgot Maurice audio at start
It’s working for me.. that’s odd
works for me
I hear it
@@nextmanupNMU yeah it works ur good
Not for me haha
Its not about the elbow, if you leave your feet during the act of hitting someone, its called charging. Not sure why it was called elbowing.
Lmao. What about Perry last year, he was completely destroyed and the refs didn’t review a “double minor”
I thought Maurice was signaling to Bennet that he had a total of 6min in penalties. both penalties were a bad play by Bennet
hi guy maurice is really mad there is two teams on the ice seems and seems flo get all the calls just look at last series
