Hi Everyone! Thanks so much for watching the video as always :-) I just wanted to say that overall I really LOVED my trip to Mongolia. Yes the first day was an adjustment and I would say that if you do go to Mongolia, the city itself needs only a few days to see. And after spending a week learning about Mongolian history(which is deeply intertwined with Chinese history), connecting with its culture, and interaction with some of the SWEETEST people I have ever come across. I appreciated so much my time there and would love to go back someday. I do apologise if this particular vlog came across as negative and thus reflected badly on Mongolia, please know that is not my intent and certainly not how I feel about the country. It's just one day and also what I always try to make sure is that my vlogs are as authentic as possible. I don't try to make something look or sound good when it's not, I don't try to make it look like I'm enjoying something when I didn't. Many people watch the airline review videos because they want an upfront honest look at that airline and I try to provide that in the videos. But everything is just my opinion, and it's ok to not agree with me. Thanks for reading and watching! Mikey
It's okay Mikey! Honestly, you are so generous because you give us review/info in everything you do. It's a big help for us to know what's good and not so nice.
In mongolia have so many restaurants you i think you need to eat some mongolian dish they are so good and cheap XD go to shangri-la and 8.12 have japanese anime event by the way my facebook facebook.com/zuchi.battugs can i show you ulaanbaatar ???
Mikey Chen - I didn't think you came across as super negative at all. It was matter of fact. Your description of driving in Mongolia and crosswalks was identical to my experience in Shanghai, China. It can be quite shocking and scary to be a pedestrian or rider in a vehicle were traffic laws are treated as suggestions rather than as rules followed! Lol. I imagine the missing gas mask was for the smog issue outside. I am curious if their air quality is being impacted by the pollution issues crossing over from China or if from their own lack of manufacturing standards for clean air? Any thoughts? As far as Mongolian Air food review, it is what it is. Up until now you have gotten pretty lucky with the airline food while flying. It was just your turn to get a crap meal. I look forward to seeing more of your vlogs on Mongolia. I don't know much about the country so I am excited to see what you can show us. Happy Travels Mikey!
This is the only vlog style channel I watch and thoroughly enjoy. I've been watching your stuff for about 4 years now Mikey, started off with Beyond Science, and it's totally awesome that you're able to make a living doing what you love and you've kept your infectious curious/positive personality through it all. I hope you're able to do this for many more years cause it's really something myself and many others have grown to enjoy in my life. Thank you for being you Mikey!
Cutman3030 agreed! I've watched many food/travel vloggers and Mike really is my favorite of all of them. Mike has such an enjoyable personality, sense of humor and is very expressiveness. When he doesn't like something, he expresses it in a respectful, positive way.
People arw complaining and saying that he was being whiny and negative the entire video, but I didn't feel that way. It just seemed like he was honestly talking about his experience as it was happening. If you are walking around and you say out loud to yourself "man it's cold" as you arw doing a vlog, why cut it out? Just to keep from offending people? That's stupid. Like he said. It was a little bit of culture shock. It wasn't what he expected, but he loves nature and exploring other cultures so I'm sure he looked into that side too. Guess people don't want honesty.
I'm sad to say that as a Mongolian, Mike you stayed at the most.. LAMEST hotel I personally have ever seen. That was NOT the center of the city.. but anyways, I didn't understand why you went to an Indian restaurant but I thought it was funny! Love your videos, I'm not offended or anything - I TOTALLY agree with how you said that the city is kind of boring but the country side is awesome! Thank you for this video~
Yurt != Tent Outside Ulaanbaatar things get very nomadic very quickly. The food is basic but ultra fresh and wholesome. You can get very lost in the Black Market. I hope you got to see some wrestling practice as wrestling is hugely popular in Mongolia.
omg!!!!!!! Mike is in Mongolia, I am so honored!! Hope you have a good experience!! People might be less polite but they are essentially nice people!! As a fellow Mongolian who watches your video all the time I am so happy (yup my username is not Mongolian) Lol-is this company owned by coke- (biggest company owns coke franchise) There is a famous chain called Modern Nomads which is quite tourist friendly-kind of recommend it. Mongolian food consists mainly of meat and dairy since we had a territory unsuitable for cultivation. But this doesn't mean it is unhealthy, the livestock grow freely in the vast land feeding off all the herbs, so quite nutritious. Even if you eat Indian food(it uses Mongolian ingredients anyway) I am still happy to see you in my country. Have a great time!!!! Also thanks so much for coming!!
Hey I'm flying in and staying close to the center in a couple of days! Got any tips on places to see and restaurants that are traditional? I surprised my daughter ... She is coming with me.
Chimp Chowder hey! were you able to find any help? I am away from there but hope I can recommend something..... like I always tell my friends - if you dont know a local personally who could help you get around the city, go with a tourist agency. They must be cheap... it’s Mongolia... i dont know actually but still.. Also comparing hotel prices with US and Europe, hotels in Mongolia are cheap. Go with kempinski, Shangrila, or tuushin. They are not expensive at all and most importantly they are in the safest areas of the town. Do not spend too many days in the city unless you really are enjoying there with a local friend or two (music festivals in summer are pretty dope - definitely a thing to experience for youngsters). And do not go to explore the “untouched nature” without any travel agency. We, Mongolians, do not even go to the rural area that often. It’s untouched nature. No building, no people, no nothing. REALLY Nothing there, very zen. What would you do there all by yourself?? Go with travel agency. Enjoy the zen with company of other zen people. Do not act stupid........ Lastly, if you are really willing to fly there and explore the country - dont go too tight with your budget. It’s not a destination like Milan or lisbon or ..... well just to fly there, you are paying 1x or 2x times more money and as much more time than going any place in Asia. It’s a destination where your interest in rich history and culture attracts you and begs you to visit for 1,2 years and then you decide to go there to see for yourself. Once this country ruled more than half of the known world and what happened to their culture and descendants - that questions might lead you to there. Unfortunately not for food, sorry for Mike. We eat organic. And organic never is delicious. Oh and buy lots of cashmere from there. They export their raw cashmere to biggest lines which eventually resells them to luxury brands. Cashmere there is top notch and cheap - almost anywhere I go, people admire Mongolian cashmere. I never tell the real price but you will see it when you are there. Apologies for replying with this long one. Feel free to ask me questions. Hope you will have a memorable one there.
Oh that was so funny! The look on your face when you chewed on that beef! And the accompanying witticism! How priceless! I am glad that the lamb in the Indian restaurant made up for the beef on the flying machine. The best naan bread I have ever eaten was in Bendigo, here in Australia. Dazzlingly delicious! Thank you for the video,
I love your videos because you are always just so happy and it really gets my family and i through some tough times. thank you for every thing mikey i hope you have a great trip(:
Hey Mike, I truly enjoy watching your videos especially your honest reaction when experiencing new stuff. Looking forward to future videos.
As a mongolian, I wanted to give the foreigners some advise on hotels. The best hotels are shangri-la and terelj hotel. But they are very expensive. For a more price appropriate option, I advise Ramada and Novotel.
Nice vlog ! I appreciate your honest reactions, I didn't think you were overly negative. Looking at the city, to be honest I would be a bit underwhelmed too ! I think some countries just need time to grow on you.

My advice to Mr. Chen, next time you have a chance to come back to Korea, at the Incheon Airport I strongly recommend other lounge service (I know that you hold the Priority Pass Card) There're Matina lounge & Hub lounge in the airport which you can use your PP card to enter. And those two lounges are 'Seriously paying attention to the food and beverage'. So you can go check them out when you have another occasion.
Interesting thing about the smog there, according to aqicn.org, the air quality is a few points lower than where I live in Vancouver, Canada. And significantly better than where my brother works in Agassiz.
@@Elurin Because of our distance from any sea and high altitude from the sea level, most of Mongolia and specially Ulaanbaatar is very dry. Maybe that is why he felt really strange.
Great video wonderful views of the plane taking off and landing. Through you I'm getting to see Mongolia, somewhere I'd never normally be able to visit. That food looked wonderful.
