George (the random stranger) apparently forgot to remove his phone from the table prior to stumbling upon Ben as a random person to review the menu for the non local tourist! Quality acting all around! :-)
Today I was George! I am a Paris dude, and at lunch offered to help a Japanese couple with some menu translations/tips. They where very pleased with the veal kidneys!
Im a Mongolian. Foreighnors and Tourist said mongolian food is so fatty but as u see mongolian people they r not so overfated Cause here mongolian food fat dont make people fat. ( even when u eat a lot ). This fat transforms energy some vitamins in your body. Mongolia has harsh winter dry windy air and cold weather Thats what u survive and live mongolia. ( Mongolian herd meat is fed by land sacred grasses like lots of vitamins and minerals) not like farm animal meat
I get that there's not much content in Mongolia, but regardless I love these videos so much. Mongolia is such a quiet country nobody ever makes any videos on, I'm glad that we can see a little into the country with your perspective!
I’d say it depends on what content that you’re trying to make. Obviously you wouldn’t make city contents such as Japan, Korea, Hongkong Taiwan and other south East Asian countries but I truly believe if you’re adventurous enough you’ll get enough content from the country as a whole. I’ve been going back and forth since 2014, truly haven’t discovered everything that Mongolia has to offer me yet. Everytime I visit there’s always something new to learn or to see but I guess it’ll be quite boring for some so I get it but still, dnamen?
I'm Diné (Navajo), a tribe in southwestern USA, and sheep is a delicacy here. We also eat most of the sheep-head, stomach, blood, intestines, ribs. We have what's called blood sausage that's made from sheep blood, potatoes, carrots, and then there's achii' which is sheep grilled sheep intestine wrapped around fat (not my fav but would still have one piece or two). My tribe's language (Diné bizaad) is Athabaskan which is related to the far northern tribes like Alaskan first nations. Ancestors of the tribes far up north traversed the Bering Strait bridge thousands of years ago into North America. So I wouldn't be surprised if my people are relatives of Mongolians. Our traditional houses are also similar to each other.
The trip videos have been freaking sick so far been, once I leave the military here in the us it is definitely one of my dreams to first visit a country like Mongolia after seeing your vids. Keep up the good work :)
Huh. I once ordered a dish pretty much at random off the menu in a Brazilian restaurant (any Brazilian should be able to say the name) - tasty stew with pork, only towards the end of the meal I noticed I was eating what were unmistakeably the pig's ear and snout. I felt really sick and disgusted - I was vegetarian for 5 years and that may have been the closest I've come to going back to that since. But what you said changes my feeling about it..I guess eating indeterminate hunks of fat and muscle of an animal we didn't slaughter ourselves lets us forget here it came from
@helvete_ingres4717 I’m assuming you’re also from the West where we don’t tend to eat things like that, but you should really give it another shot. Why let that good food go to waste if the animal is already dead?
My friend and I ate at Nomads when we were in UB back in 2016. We got the khorkhog and an order of khuushuur. It's expensive but the portions are large. I wanted to get the lamb's head but my friend would have been grossed out. She made it clear a sheep's head (including the eyeballs) wasn't an option. Glad to see you're a carnivorous alpha male and not one of those effete, sissy vegan types! I did eventually get to fulfill my wish of eating a sheep head, but it was at a Mexican restaurant in L.A.
It's basically sause that you ate!! That's what we call it in America, it's just not all ground up together and made into this jelly like meat with spices, but it's really delicious though! Well to me lol Enjoying the Mongolian series Ben👍🏻🤘🏻
Smoked sheep head is a local tradition where I am from west in Norway. Always interesting to see how other countries prepare the sheep head. Look delicious.
Hey Ben long time lurker here. Just wanted to say I`m really enjoying your videos. Especially in the exam period as an escape from reality. Keep up the good work.
Only one mistake! George had left his mobile phone on the table (side of the table, which he eventually occupied) before he came to introduce and help you!!! :) :) :)...........
Yesterday I commented I was glad for you that you went around with locals. But I thought, you should try to eat boz (dumplings). And today I watch and you do eat boz and local meat. Haha. 👍🏼😃You get so much more inside information hanging out with local people in Mongolia. I hope you’ll also go and experience the life of nomads/herdsmen. All the best, from Amsterdam.
I feel like it’s the psychology of the actual body parts i agree tongue is good, i couldn’t do eye or ear either but i think if they just ground it all and made it i to a sausage or a patty itd be ok. Great video Ben sometimes i want to give up traveling but people like you keep me going!!!
It is like watching meal time with Hannibal the Cannibal. A conversation stopper....I am not too keen on the ear or the eye, but the tongue and cheek are tasty.
The salty milk sounded like Ayran, a traditional Iranian drink that's also commonly found throughout West and Central Asia. This one looked plain, but the Iranian version is often loaded with mint and herbs. Tastes delicious.
Nothing shocking about the food. A very popular meal in northern England during WW2 and rationing was sheep head broth. And what parts of the animal do you think go into cheap dodgy frozen burgers/sausages.. ? 😉
For anyone who wants to travel and do documentaries on food, you better have a palate for all foods..otherwise don’t do it!! Cause it seems kinda disrespecting..
It's so funny to me when people get ooh-wow about unfamiliar food. You know you're in a new culture. I figure, if it's what people normally eat, eat it! No big deal. Don't expect it to be familiar; if one wants familiar, one should stay home. I just wish there was someplace close to me where I could try Mongolian food. I've been watching cooking videos and it all looks so good!
Brave Ben to go deep into the real mongol cuisine. LOL we all think your dinking to get over the fear of what your doing. We love your british talk mate and cheers.
Brave trying the eye and ear ! They eat some unusual body parts here in China too, but thankfully I haven’t seen ear or eye on the menu yet although I’m sure they are eaten 😂 Chicken feet and ducks neck are pretty popular snacks here!
In Norway the sheeps head dish is called Smalhove, you down the eye in a shot of aquavit. The half sheeps head is served with turnip and potatoes which was quite familiar as a Scotsman!
Lmao as a Scotsman who eats sheep intestine and other stuff on the regular I could tell you were putting a brave face on. Next time you come back I'll take you out for some king rib mystery meat lol. Anthony bourdain enjoyed it but most Scots won't eat it lol.
Yep, the food there looks amazing. I agree. Packed with great looking meat, which is something you rarely see in some of these videos. The colder places always seem to have the greatest cooking.
Road trip country to sightsee Gobi the desert , Lake Khuvsgul and the Taiga and lots of more. Kayaking, zipline, camel ride and UAZ or Purgon rollercoaster to buckle on. -The best thing to buy is "Cashmere,” or else you can go and buy some tees from the brand which made the opening attire for Paris 2024. -Order lamb head or khorhog at the restaurants unless you can’t go meet with herders. Make sure to pack some your indigestion pills cuz food here might be heavy. Anyway, try not to wander around the city riding a bus, or better yet, not listen to strangers. Phones? Front pocket😅
I'm a powerlifter and I always hit at least 300 grams of protein a day. Honestly the hardest part is eating enough. Considering the diet in Mongolia it would be a breeze to hit that number compared to in the United States. I hope someday I can visit.
The cheek of an animal is always the best bet. In the US, beef cheek is a popular BBQ item. And, Also used for Mexican (Tex-Mex) barbacoa tacos. (No way I’m eating the eye or brain!😂)
I like this one. And Kudos to George, such a wholesome character!
Top guy!
George (the random stranger) apparently forgot to remove his phone from the table prior to stumbling upon Ben as a random person to review the menu for the non local tourist! Quality acting all around! :-)
I didn’t notice that but now I rewatched 😅
you can see him sitting in front of Ben also before "randomly" joining 😂
😂😂 I noticed that too!
My acting skills not good enough? 😝
i feel betrayed

Everyone must learn from George
Ah, Paris. So you helped them translate into Somalian then?

Mongolia is a beautiful country and the food is great. I moved here from America in early 2022 and have never regretted it
It is very dangerous for you to go there, Mongolia is being surrounded by Russia and China, it is very dangerous
1:24 George already sitting at the table before they even met 😅

I appreciate that! Cheers for watching
Excellent series Ben! George looks like a cool guy. He reminds me of Harald Baldr's Korean friend Noodles.
What a great meal! Great video too ❤
Great videos from Mongolia Ben. Always been really interested in the place, so thanks for showing us.

Lol, I think she had a lucky escape.
The trip videos have been freaking sick so far been, once I leave the military here in the us it is definitely one of my dreams to first visit a country like Mongolia after seeing your vids. Keep up the good work :)
The lamb's head genuinely looks tasty, proper nose to tail eating, shows real respect for the animal that was reared for eating.

The asshole is the sweetest tenderest meat known to man
We don't waste any of the animal here and it is all free range fed,no drugs like used on animals in other countries
I love your accent and channel, very good and funny content, thanks a lot
Great Mongolian food presentation guys 👍one of the best for the cold winter food 👍😎Thanks for sharing and take care guys 😁😆🤣Well done 👏😁✌

Your funniest expression was in Indonesia while eating a Durian and that one beats every food challenge you've taken so far.
Great to see Ben , I have been here Since May 17th never had a bad meal , allways good and new tastes eating with great friendly people
So awkward that Georges phone was already on the table haha. The food looks class though.
Well spotted
I was really impressed by the kindness of this man trying to help a stranger….until I read the comments LOL
Hats off to you Ben for that Fear Factor style dinner course, I almost spit up a few times. You're a champion!
Great video mate,I like to see how the food is like there
I had no idea Mongolia was that modern. Nice restaurant and the food did look really good!
Countrys outside of Western countrys are offen was more modern by the way. I lived in few estern european countrys
Welp 70% of Mongolia lives in urban areas. The biggest of them all being Ulaanbaatar which by itself boasts half of Mongolia's population
I like the steppe. I want Mongolia to be mostly steppe and freedom
