I just love the fact that they just put a living real alligator into goo for 8 minutes and it was chill.
well rex is a good girl... sometimes lol
Ellie Douglas LMAO. Glad you added that sometimes though I think Rex’ patience is rare for an alligator.
Rex spent 30 odd years living in a box where she couldn't even turn around. It then took Emily 6 months to rescue her. So, I'd say shes pretty used to being 'chill', but it's actually sad.
Angel Yes it is sad. I’m glad she is with Emily and Ed now living the best life ever. I can’t imagine how her previous owner who Emily said did care about Rex could be so simply minded to think a small box, no water to swim in, and only fed once every two weeks for 27 freaken years met even the most basic needs of an alligator. It does help to see her life now.
Ya imagine someone came over and just put your foot in some goo. You’d probably be freaked out but I don’t know about you but I would
She sat still!
*Everyone at home: Yay!*
For about two minutes...
*Everyone: Oh*
4:10 I’m getting flashbacks to that trend where people put rubber bands on a watermelon to make it explode. Anyone remember that?
Fizzy Potato I've always wanted to do that, and eat the Mellon afterword of course.
@@thedragonknightlord2732 Just put it in a clean container so you catch most! Other than that it's super fun to do lol
mr beast?
Omg same!
I actually did that this year with some of my students at an elementary school. Except we used a pumpkin because it was Halloween. It was super fun! Beware of the occasional snap from breaking bands though Haha that hurts and leaves welts.
A cast of Rex's foot would be something to bring to programs, too. You can let people pass it around to see the feet up close. Also, you can cast a bunch and make small shelves or hooks. Air plants on alligator feet hooks would be awesome.
Resin in general is expensive, buuuut there's a type of resin called Art Resin that Peter Brown uses on his RUclips channel. He says that its alot more affordable, less smelly, and pretty clear .
Yessss, he's so good at that
I was going to suggest the same thing XD
But is it safe for animals?
Sorry I am not an expert on resin.
@@NotMonkeyingAround you wouldn't use the resin on the animal! The resin gets put inside of the silicone cast they made. No contact with the animal at all
Emily: Educates over a million people about reptiles
Also Emily: Lets do blue blue
:)
I thought you would put it as a touching feature in the zoo. Like how a alligator foot feels like next to rex’s new home. Or sell in zoo store.
It would probably be ripped up I would put it in a glass box.
Both are great ideas!
alexlikesallthegamez then it wouldn’t be interactive having kids feel the scale pattern. Snake Discovery can replace it time to time. It won’t break easy resin is pretty hard material after all.
Colorless Canvas I would buy one. Emily and Ed should figure out their cost, do a mark up, add taxes if needed, then sell them. I would love to have Rex’s foot on my shelf of cool bric a brac. 🤣
Maybe a healthy alligator vs Rexy to show the size and health difference
Thanks for the shout out, you guys! Fantastic job with the molding and casting. =D
:0 hi
That was a cool move if you make another video made me go do something
Hello
Hi ...
Sooo... anyone else think Arts and Crafts with Emily should be a series? She could teach us how to make reptile-related crafts!
Morgan Gobin I suggest arts and crafts with Ed
Ed and Em
YeS
Yes that would be great!
*GASP* YES, yes to this completely omg!!!
The cast was so detailed, it looked 3D printed!! Exquisite detail!
I think being able to buy Rex’s foot, or any other critter would be really cool for the zoo. Especially for lil kids who can “take part of the zoo” home with them, could even include a info page about the animal with the body part. And you could charge a lil extra since we know you’re putting the money towards the animals and we all love seeing them happy.
Even tho this was a year ago first lol
I wonder if curing them in a pressure pot would take care of the air bubbles. Just thinking of what Rybonator does with his D&D dice.
You and wonder in similar chunks of the internet Alicia
Celtic Wolf4 What are you even trying to say? “You and wonder in similar chunks of the internet.” That legitimately makes no sense.
I was just saying that we watch at least 2 of the same youtubers.
Yeah Evan and Kaitlyn on RUclips there channel do that and they says it takes care of all of their bubbles they do a lot of resin on their channel
@@aliciatilley7524 They meant "you and I wander in similar chunks of the Internet, Alicia." That's what my brain saw, at least!
You can have her feet cast in brass and use them as door handles for your new facility!
If not door handle, have them as displays so people can “shake hands” with Rex 😊
that would be cute
That’s such an awesome idea.
BEST IDEA.
Like so Snake Discovery can see!

Hey, great project! Fyi, resin can actually be really dangerous. I would recommend using gloves and having a lot of ventilation. The fumes don't always have a strong smell but can still be harmful. If you plan to use resin a lot, you might want to invest in a respirator suitable for fumes. Also, try out using glitters and mica powders and stuff! You can also embed things like dried flowers and leaves. Or maybe Rex teeth!
Tremolo just hope she sees this
Yeah proper safety measures are really important, this stuff can be fairly damaging over time
Gloves and proper eye protection at the very, very least with open windows. For the mica powders you can start off by using inexpensive eyeshadows. It’s a cost effective way to get your foot wet in a craft like this without breaking the bank.
@@juliereis146 mica powder can be really cheap from Amazon
Yea, was thinking that. I'm a soldering technician and we use a black epoxy on some of our microchips in the main boards we make and we have to wear gloves while we use it and we are warned to immediately go wash it off if we get any on ourselves.
“We can make glow in the dark feet??!”
I say find someone to help you 3D print them. Could scan the original cast and have more control over colors, too.
May Jean depending on the printer, color, etc. it may be cheaper
@@dakotajordyn5541 exactly. And maybe even make little keychains or something since they could change the size, too.

“It’s over Emily, I have the high ground!”

Ooh! You can drill a little hole at the base of these and insert a LED light, and it'll be a cool night lamp!!
I really love how both you AND Ed are so excited about these projects.
Had an anxiety attack in class so I’m down watching this in the main office. Thanks for being super duper calming to watch :))
Babey Praying for your anxiety to ease. My daughter has anxiety attacks and has found going for a walk with someone that understands helps more than other things she has tried. She also attends a group meeting with others suffering from Anxiety. Talking it out with others going through it, really helps. They share what helps and how to avoid triggers. People who don’t go through this have no idea how awful and scary an anxiety attack can be. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
Dee Marie Dubois you’re so overwhelmingly sweet :)) it’s nice to see that people care
Try heroin... You won't feel anything.
Scott Fisher Are you serious????
Scott Fisher that’s a no from me chief
Thats so fascinating! I love how you can see all the tiiiny details in Rex's foot, and the glow in the dark on is so cool!
I’m only five minutes in, but seeing the color resin and the solid mold is giving me flashbacks to Dollightful’s channel
Edit: It went fine, very very happy
I love Dollightful! She doesn't use resin too often though
Eyy! I found dollightful fans!
wwwoooowww another Dollightful fan (I can see how you would think that)
I watch her too!
And young
Oh my god, same. Seeing Emily pull out the colored resin triggered PTSD flashbacks from the Xerneas video
When I saw the thumbnail I thought she cut of Rex’s foot! XD
( I hadn’t seen part 1 )
when they pulled the green one out, I was like "awww wouldn't it be cool if it were glow in the dark? It seems like Ed is the kind of guy that would surprise her with that." and then...
;T
Rex is so adorable! So glad she's in a good home now.

Emily: this video is taking a long time to film 😐
Ed: yah
Me: ( checks the time) it had only been nine minutes 😂😂
Great editing btw 😁😁❤️
It took fricking 24 hrs to do this
Imagine your friend comes over and just sees you holding your alligators foot in a cast liquid thing 🤣
Yeah, rather than patreon gifts, I figured you were making them to put in a gift shop at your new zoo and education center. Actually, making Rex foot LED lamps would be kinda nifty. I'm sure kids would love them.
“Just pretend Rex’s foot is right here.”
“Want to go get here?”
“No we’re not getting her for this.”
My brain cells talking to each other
Mystic Sinner oh my gosh my brain does that too. Always having a mental conversation with itself. Brainconvo.
I love how the green one turned out
I know that is not glow in the dark but on top of a light it looks glow in the dark
Pounding the mold on the table after small pours would also help get the resin into the crevices and release some air bubbles too.
Emily!! you should totally make a soap mold of Rex's paw for the facility bathrooms!!
I hope they sell these in her gift shop😁
I was thinking same thing
@@Crimson-1997 I know get her footprint in your favorite color and a card with her background story
Ashley Clutinger I said the same thing on another comment. Figure out their costs, do their labor mark up, add taxes if needed, then sale them. I want one in green hopefully the glow in the dark.
@@deemariedubois4916 me too my daughter wants it pink. It would be awesome
Yep, or sort of do a "fundraising" effort and produce them to help with starting up the Zoo. Could even make a Snake Discovery supporter package and have a wall with all the member names, etc. I think Emily and Ed have made such a positive impact in the reptile keeping community there would be no shortage of people willing to help and support them in the effort... and get cool swag too? Bonus!
Tip from someone who uses resin a lot. Stir very slowly next time and when the resin and harder are mixed, set the container in a water bath of very hot water for about 5-10 minutes. That gets rid of every single bubble. Just make sure water doesn't get into the cup
What'd you do this weekend?
Oh, not much, just made a glowing replica of my alligators foot...
My daughter really enjoys your channel
The most anticipated sequel of 2020!
Give mica powders in your epoxy/resin a shot. It will give it a pretty shimmer without being gittery. If you want glittery, you can add glitter to your resin.
Rex is such a good sport!
Here's some other uses I can think of for the final cast:
-hat/bag hanger
-ring holder
- glue it to a stick for a back scratcher
Having it as a ring holder would be so hardcore!!
I think you can make a pretty workable vacuum pump with your regular vacuum but like, 5 layers of mesh to lower it's suction. And not going over the hole directly
I’m so early Rex is still being called a male...
Anny Lynn no she isn’t getting called a male
XD

Alfie Strong I live in Georgia but my husband and I love a road trip. We will definitely be driving north to see Ed and Emily’s place when up and running.
You need to add glitter to the mixture! Glitter glow n the dark Rex claw!
Sell them in the new store along with jewelry and stuff. Have a reptile appreciation department.
so cooolllll maybe you can do it with snake shed to in the inside of de shed
DIY with Snake Discovery was never so rad! 💚
Ayy, was wondering when this series would finish up
I wanna know too
I can watch this all day
I love her charmander belt!
Hey Emily hey Edd you are an awsome channel and even though I'm not allowed yo have a snake or a lizard you make me feel like I do keep doing what you do best
Same.
Hey, my son and I just discovered your RUclips channel and we are in love with Rex. He thinks the molds are gummy candy molds and I thought it would be awesome if you guys actually did a candy mold of rex’s foot. I definitely would buy that!!!!!!!!!
The wording sounds like a move “THE FINAL PRODUCT” lol
Maybe you could fill the original mold from the bucket with water and measure it before making the final mold, that way you could figure out how much resin you're going to need. Also, great video!
Rex's foot looks like a dinosaur foot, Well I'm not surprised! Love reptiles.
Her foot*
@@strawberrycoolatta I just edited it.
You should look into doing a brand deal with TotalBoat Epoxy. Evan and Katelyn (DIY vloggers) have teamed with them before, and their stuff always turns out well.
Instead of gifts, sell them as merch! My daughter would love a rex foot night light.
😆😅😂🤣
Mine too!
I agree with putting it as a hands-on feature in the zoo, that is super awesome idea! Also, what about making them out of plaster of Paris? I think I’ve heard of that done before.
You should talk to nerdie crafter. The master of resin making crafts😁
Long live the salt
Looks so cool
Yeah...when I buy resin, it can cost, wha...(tries to remember what it was last time I went)...$20? I try to go for big boxes so I don't have to go as often. I need to find a more cost-effective way to do that. BTW, what kind of silicon/silicone did you use for this and where'd you get it? I'd love to try to do this myself! (Not necessarily the Step 1 you did with Rex, but the "make a mold and fill it" thing.)
Wow!
Awesome awesome awesome
Love those feet
And the glow in the dark- genius!!
with the resin use a heat gun or blow torch to help get rid of the bubbles
They are sooo cool! Especially the glow in the dark one. I really want one! Its soo coool! I am a patreon but not top tier so probably will never be able to own one but i would really love that. (I also really want a rex tooth necklace!
Oh btw! You should use/build a pressure pot to cure the resin in and then your resin will be completely airbubble free! Dont use a vacuum chamber, the resin will explode everywhere. Look on rybonator's channel for tips on what to use and how to build one!
You should raffle / silent auction them to put towards your new building.
Emily, I have an AMAZING IDEA!!
You can put the cast in your new facility!
I bet that would be _quite_ a sight!
Someone else already suggested it, but I was also thinking you guys could sell these at your new facility in the gift shop -- you could have free (meaning not mounted on something, I don't mean give them away) ones that glow-in-the-dark, and you could have the other type mounted on a light like you were showing and sell them as alligator foot lamps. I bet a lot of people would buy those (maybe after you can bring the price down a little bit like you said by finding a cheaper resin).
You need one for the zoo and do a "shake paw with Rex" station
I would totally add a stick to that resin foot are use it as a back-scratcher.
This reminds me of trying to get a cute footprint from my babies. It took forever and was an absolutely miserable experience
Sounds like it would have been funny to watch lol
The Riverwood Trader called, he wants his claw back!
I like the alligator foot🐊
I love seeing you and Ed playing with the colors and glow-in-the-dark powders!
love these. genious idea to turn it into a mold for resin, maybe i'll do this with my dogs paw.
xoxo love from Maryland
“we can make glow in the dark feEET!!”
You might also think about clear glycerin soap it'll hold up to shipping and be cheap
If you can make a clear mold, you can use uv gel instead of resin and it'll be an easier and cheaper process once you have all of the tools
That would be awesome as a night light.
Super cool video! Love you Emily, I’m a big fan! 😁❤️ I was also wondering if you had any advice oh how to switch a Ball Python from live to F/T? If not that’s fine, just thought I would ask! (I would love to see a video about that too!)
thebutlers2005 Here is a link to try plus there are great ideas in the comments.
ruclips.net/video/TP6HbJ6T5QU/видео.html
Offer a FT rodents, make sure it is hot. You can leave the rodent over night if they don’t take it right away. You can also try pre-killed originally to help make the switch.
I so want one! That's just awesome!!!
Rex is amazing, we should protect her with our lives 🙃
*her
I dropped my taco I just realised my mistake 😂 It’s the name 😂
A cheap alternative could be PMMA resin. The bulk material is ~3$/kg, and a simple bulk hardener that you'd use with the still-raw PMMA like the Epoxy in the video shouldn't really be expensive.
If you'd consider pursuing this, feel free to ask, as I can lookup some notes I made while researching available PMMA hardeners.
Also, if you ever decide to do a 24/7 Rex cam that people can subscribe to, I would totally pay $5 -10 per month for that
The glow in the dark one would make awesome halloween decorations!
2:31: my mom can relate when she had yours truly.. ...
Be careful when working with epoxy resin and letting it set in your snake room, it releases toxic fumes at some point in the process of making it. 😬 It is probably not very dangerous but better safe than sorry. :)
Please sell these at the new facility! You could use the profits from those sales to get the materials for the patreon supporters
You could also make soap and/or candles😊
Rex is a doge and I love her so much, thank you for helping her have a better life, I honestly can't thank you enough!
