This is part of the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in DC. TOWARDS THE END, the crowd starts to get loud and the Sentinel calls them out
Layomi Sunmonu They dont mess around! You better just have an attitude of you're in the military when you observe the changing of the guard. Would love to see how he would handle one of those flag burners or idiots protesting the American flag.
Thats an interesting paradox to consider. While highly disrespectful and inappropriate, they are essentially fighting to protect your right to do so. However in this sacred place, I doubt they would afford such a disrespectful person any such freedom.
Lucas Boren I went there back in 2009 for my 8th grade trip to D.C. and when we got to the tomb and watched the guards march, this dude behind me evidently had his phone on full volume. Needless to say, it went off, the guard stopped mid march, turned towards us, looked right in my direction, and yelled what this guard said about maintaining silence. One could only imagine the pucker factor.
TrenchcoatNinja3 me to! except uh it happened this year, 2017. since my mother had served, (at least I think that's why they chose me) I was one of the three kids to present a wreath with our schools name on it. pretty damn cool
Had the Sentinel said that to a person or the crowd...he would be just as disrespectful as the noise maker/s in the crowd. The Sentinels are trained to be tolerant but firm. They are taught how to handle ignorance. Had the Sentinel blurted out what you said, I'm sure he/she would be discharged of his/her duties in a heartbeat.
Being a UK military personal, I admire the American respect, their movement was perfect, hours and weeks even months to train to do this. Absolutely perfect, brothers in arms!
站在反对邪恶醒来帮助 It’s not walking, it’s marching with a very specific pattern each time. The exact number of steps and the seconds between each step are specific. It’s not easy.
Eric Chen, marching and walking are the same thing. The pattern they are marching to is not difficult at all. This is very easy. I would say it's similar to Michael Jackson doing the moonwalk or some other choreographed minor dance move. A very slow version of a fraternity/sorority step show. Anyway, it's not some super difficult thing to do. It's basic choreographed movements. Nowhere near as complex as the easiest series of choreographed dance moves. Just saying.
Snipernoob I have run 10 miles wearing a 50lb weighted vest in the blazing sun. Have you ever done that? Walking wearing a uniform in the sun is nothing. I also ran up and down Koko Head Crater in Hawaii (690ft) three times back to back in the blazing hot sun and I went all the way to the top every time, not just where the tracks end.
Unless you are talking about God or Jesus Christ... then it is perfectly fine to blaspheme their name's continuously daily without number and no consequence. NOT!!!
Marcia Walden this has nothing to do with an idiot and chief that you disagree with. So shut it lady. Honor the fallen. Take your bullshit agenda someplace else #HowDareYou
My grandparents took me here when I was six. They explained how I needed to behave before we went. I remember it being absolutely silent. I didn’t talk or fidget. My grandpa is a vet along with my dad and his three brothers.
I lost my brother in the Vietnam War. The wounds of his loss are still as fresh today as they were back on May 18th 1969. I ask that anyone who chooses to attend the Tomb Of The Unknown Soldier ceremony refrain from acts of disrespect. Countless men and women have given their lives so that we may continue to enjoy the Freedoms so many take for granted. If you feel you cannot or will not show dignity or the respect that these brave soldiers deserve then please stay away.
@@prajullas how about you worry about your own country and military. The US will worry with ours. We respect our military personnel, living and deceased.
When i was deployed for OIF we were with some south Korean r.o.c. soldiers. They drilled daily and were quite impressive. Ive never tried finding a video of them doing drills since then but i just remember watching them every evening . I guess it was a nice distraction from the looming dread of convoying into Iraq that next week
To some people that isn't 'drill' as its somewhat theatrical, formulated and exaggerated. The inspection at the start is an example. No one denies the respect to dead heroes this ceremony is intended to demonstrate and gives but please do not call it 'drill'. I notice that every move is a multiple of 21 (steps and timing) to reflect the traditional 21 gun salute which is excellent.
He did the right thing of calling the crowd out! I've been to the Tomb Of The Unknown Soldier! Brought tears to my eyes while Honoring the Soldier! I was totally blown away by the beauty of the Guards precision! God bless our troops!
It's awe-inspiring. The sense of duty, honour and pure love for their fallen brothers that these gentlemen show is stunning. The care and discipline is perfect. I only wish that some of those who come to gawk at them could be more respectful.
Amen, Kristen. My cousin was on this detail many years ago. Your chances of being selected for it are about like hitting the Powerball jackpot. TOTAL dedication and unparalleled military bearing demanded. Best regards to you.
And the even more amazing thing is that they volunteer for this, and them go through rigorous training, and then STILL more tests and training, and ONLY THEN do they get the title. They even have to memorize 7+ pages of knowledge to get the title, and it’s a very awe-inspiring thing to witness.
@luuk 024 that place is the symbolic resting place of over 100,000 of US Killed in Action serving the country for which there are no known graves. it is symbolically the burial place of my grandfather who was killed with no recoverable body when his position was stuck by an artillery barrage in the Hurtgen forest while he was freeing Europe and the world of the Nazis. Taxpayer money down the drain? STFU.
No, actually we were both wrong. "Their shoes have steel heel and toe bits to punctuate their steps with a CLICK. This rubs off small amounts of steel powder with each step or D&C move, which turns to iron oxide in the damp. SOURCE: guy I went to Army language school with was a guard at the tomb of the unknowns" So basically, its rust.
Kakakarot Cake it’s not about usefulness it’s about respect to our fallen. I do commend you for asking a question that many people have, and for taking an interest into why we do this
That slow marching is a skill, amazingly so. If you have never gone through drill exercises, you simply won't understand that. Tip of the cap (or beret) from the UK.
+JetMechMA you see I wont do it for the people now because I know that they are unthankful bastards.... I'm doing it for a tradition and as a way to thank the people who fought for this country before me...
+JetMechMA I completly understand that wars are fought with the publics support but I have enough to fight for... I have family and friends and I am willing to die for them and them alone...
Unfortunately, Congress sees the military as just "boots on the ground" and not humans. No war should be allowed without prefunding vet funding. Why are vets dumped into a military vet hospital toilet instead of the mainstream private healthcare system? Amazing how many non-Americans are in the US military for fast track citizenship. As great as our military's patriotism, all governments will betray you. Human nature.
I have been at the Tomb of Unknown Soldier. When we where the crowd was very quiet and respectful . The military guard was amazing. Thank you for your Service.🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Yet you can still hear idiots talking and commenting! Good grief!! Show some respect!! For any veteran who may be reading this- THANK YOU and God Bless you for your service- you are appreciated.
There wasn't a single man with his hat off, either. Which to me is far more disrespectful than babies crying. One's inside the person's control, and the other seldom is..
I'm swiss and even I'm disgusted by these people. Most of the noisey people are in fact american as you can hear from the chatter. We're lucky over here we dont have to have such a monument and even as a tourist I wouldnt dare take my phone/camera out.
@@boomzurich Thank you for understanding how most Americans feel about their war memorials. Especially the WWI and WWII and the Vietnam War memorials/monuments. However, with all due respect to you, you're "lucky" over there that you "don't have to have such a monument" because it seems Switzerland is unwilling to even help defend Europe against monsters that DO go bump in night. It was surrounded by countries fighting for their very existence, but the Swiss did nothing to help. Can you tell my "Why"? I'll admit I'm no history expert, so please fill in the blanks for me... @@cinderellsworth please compare the sizes of the nations around us. We would not have been a great help and instantly flattened. And until today we provide the soldiers for the popes guard called Päpstliche Schweizergarde.
@@cinderellsworth and when you compare the sizes, please keep in mind that switzerland only about half of switzerland is inhabitable because of the mountains (alps) XD
I was a member of the honor guard. I've folded our flag and delivered it to countless weeping family members of our fallen brothers and sisters young and elderly. We trained relentlessly to honor those who had served and sacrificed. It is a privilege to pay respect to the tomb of the unknown soldiers and MIA. Jostes, Sheehan, I'll remember you forever, and I'll remember April 4th Sadr City for the rest of my life. Civilians, you've never experienced it. Please be respectful to something you can't comprehend.
Civilians can and do serve in exactly the same capacity every day. We see our family and friends die, too. We see them die while serving their country in countless ways. Get off your high horse.
jan HOUWAARD if you don’t support the very thing that protects your rights then by all means move to a place you do agree on and enjoy having no right. I swear you inconsiderate fucks have no respect for what people sacrifice so you have the right to bitch on the internet.
These are men who will stand their post in freezing weather. These are men who will stand their post in such heat and humidity, that they will pass out. These are men that will stand their post in a hurricane, defying the orders of their CO, and his CO. Do you grasp the level of discipline and duty in what I speak of? Can you comprehend that you have not insulted them, rather you have insulted 1000s of their fallen brothers, which they will guard over without fail? I can explain it to you, but I cannot understand it for you. If you cannot be quiet, stand still, take your hat off, shed a tear, by all means, please don't pass through the front gates. You should be so lucky to be honored so greatly when you pass. Sadly, you do not posses an ounce of the honor that is found, in the men who rest in this garden of stones.
This is the most powerful comment I have ever read ... you can explain that you can't make them understand. Kind of like the old saying about leading a horse to water.
I can't comprehend how people show little respect for those servicemen and women who paid the ultimate price so that those very people can live in freedom.
It is not considered disrespectful to film the guard. It is however considered disrespectful by dressing as if your at Disney Land and/or making noise, talking or bringing crying babbling children. The changing of the guard is truly about respect for all those that gave their lives for us and this Country. If people can not respect that supreme sacrifice as the gift it is as than they need not come.
JetMechMA I don’t think anyone took it that far. Simply, while not expected to wear a suit...flip flops, tube tops, bathing suits and similar items OR the witty t-shirts should stay at home. There is a difference between summer wear and wearing inappropriate attire.
The guard is on a post, he does not leave that post. His responsibility is the tomb he is guarding. He does not leave his post to call security. He maintains military discipline and addresses the problem. Civilian or not,
+JetMechMA you are mistaken sir. The to b of the unknown soldier IS a military installation. If it were not, then the guard could not carry a weapon. His duty is to guard the tomb short and sweet. Leaving his post is not an option even if it is to call for security personnel.
This tomb is for all unknown soldiers btw. Who died far from home with nobody ever knowing what happened to them or having remains to lay to rest. It should be internationally respected.
rezsurfer I will not deny that elitists did make money off of these wars however the reasons for entering them did not involve financial gain for certain groups. You can demonize the US as a war machine profiting off of the death, however there has only been 3 recent (past ~100 years) conflicts that I can argue that were indeed influenced by profit such as the the Arab Spring, and the Syrian Civil War. The War of Terror can also be argued to be for profit which I can not deny but at the same time it wasn't entirely. The rest of the conflicts were primarily focused on maintaining peace and warring ideologies. I am willing to argue and defend these points if you object to them as well.
My family visited the cemetery in the 70's and happened to be there for the guard changing. There was no photographs permitted and silence and respect were a given. It was amazing and breathtaking!
+Marshal Ironsides I guarantee they do not mind crying babies. As well, its every American's Right to be disrespectful and I guarantee the Sentinels comprehend and support that principle, much more profoundly, than do you.
+Marshal Ironsides Well, not that I HAD to, but Ive earned the Right to be as disrespectful as I please, to anyone I please and I did it so YOU could say the stupid shit you say.
It's disrespectful for me to butt in on your conversation, yes. Please excuse me. While it is my "right" to be disrespectful, it does nothing to uphold dignity and honor and propriety. Good day.
+Marshal Ironsides Funny, isnt it, how disrespectful you are being, in arguing and moralizing to a wounded veteran? Yet... I am not making veiled threats, or advocating violence against you. Am I just a better person?
How incredibly sad that visitors have to be told to show respect to deceased soldiers and to the ritual of respect. But then again, look at the caliber of people today, no surprise.
This is for the unknown soldiers who died. If you can’t maintain silence don’t be there. God Bless our soldiers and thank you all for your service, bravery and sacrifice.
I've attended this ceremony in person and the dignity and honor that is displayed made my heart swell with pride. I didn't know that each military branch has its own TOTUS, so now I need to find a way to go back there and pay my respects at the other tombs. I don't know the soldiers but I do know that without them I wouldn't have my freedoms. How do you say "thank you" to someone for laying down their life for you? Beautiful ceremonies and quiet respect just seem to fall short of truly honoring their sacrifice. God bless America and thank you for being such a special country.
+rezsurfer you yourself are a big headed wannabe intellectual by thinking you could possibly even begin to outline even just a fraction of the motivations for war by a government. And you’re so lacking of tact or class that you can’t even keep your Starbucks, vegan book club opinions to your self for ten minutes to pay respect to poor fuckers who’ve died with different reasonings in their own heads and can’t even be recognised. Yh maybe pro war types or pro military, are brainwashed and do just believe what the govt tells them, or what they hear on the news, or maybe your an idiot too who believes everything you’ve read on imright.com or your social change Facebook pages. Either way give respect to others, and then get it.
The Tombs have 3 unknown soldiers who paid the ultimate price to defend our nation. The reason the Army 3rd U.S. Infantry, "The Old Guard" stands this reverent watch is because people were disrespecting the site and our fallen warriors. They stand this watch every single day, regardless of the weather. Our fallen hero's and those who guard their eternal rest deserve the utmost respect and the gawkers in this video obviously could care less. Thank you to the soldier firstly and secondly, shame on everyone their for making him have to treat you like children for disrupting and disrespecting this ceremony.
I saw this live on a school field trip. My dad served in Iraq and Afghanistan. I knew the meaning of it. My classmates didn't. As i stood silently and respectfully, they were on there phones or talking and the teachers weren't paying attention. Sad
+Patric Braun I served my time in the US Army to the best of my ability and this impresses me every time I see this. The discipline, honor, and respect they have and show is astounding.
The silence was deafening when he spoke.. even the sequita’s couldn’t out loud those ignorant people’s silence. Good for that soldier to speak out. God bless our soldiers.
Tfw you scroll through the video and see the comment that tells you what time it starts, and it just so happens that you scrolled to the exact time the people said.
As a former serving soldier with another ( allied ) country, i would naturally be silent and respectful, to the fallen of another country, whether allied, or not. It is part of our inbuilt Esprit de Corps.
whats amazing is that these sentinels are all soldiers that have volunteered service and have guarded the tomb for over 80 years , 24/7, thank you for your commitment to service.
@J War Volunteer for the training, few pass. They can be male or female too, and no, there arent restrictions on off duty behavior more than any other soldier. I imagine that if you made a fool of yourself out of uniform, you'd be drummed out right quick. Higher standard and all. But I doubt the kind that would do that would ever volunteer to begin with.
He wasn't telling them to shut up.. It's his requirement to state that the area is to have complete silence. Notice he checks his gun then makes his statement?
People just don't realize how important this man's job is and what he represents a honor and dignity to the fallen soldiers there...I wonder what has happened to this country....Pray for this country... When I was in the marine corps in 1968 the same problem disrespect for our military and the dead i was just thinking maybe that the country was making a come back, maybe not. I'm beginning to believe this country is on its way out especially what I see on the TV news...I hope not... This date is September 2020, ever snice I posted this 8 months ago the world has changed, if you think that it was bad then, grab your hat because this ride is about to start.... i think we are about to see a revolution between good and evil or right and the left. That kind bs comes from liberal press....and draft dodges like you...yes we had a draft...dummy....what a real dummy....
John Smith you say that mockingly but those two things are infinitely more important that some symbolic guard duty at a tomb that has no actual importance inside of sentimental value.
@@Nopers_ actually, you don't have a right to be wherever you want. Businesses and places such as this can ask you to leave and they don't need a reason.
Welcome to black America. You should see them in movies, or at funerals. Hell, you just have to watch them get a speeding ticket to understand the basics. Screeching, arguing, then pulling a gun, getting shot, then their entire community screeching, arguing, then pulling guns, then the media hiding the violent part, and claiming they're all victims, enabling the cycle to continue. No one calls them out for their bullshit so they keep on with it.
When my kid cries in the store I remove them promptly, let alone the tomb of the unknown solider! Good grief, put your own desires aside and TAKE YOUR KID AWAY!!!
I don't know what they were laughing out but I love this guard for calling the crowd out. Nothing funny at the tomb of the UNKNOWN soldier. Been there. It is quite something to see, I am glad I went.
An overall note, for those wanting info. The Old Guard, guards the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier 24 hours a day 7 days a week. During the Hurricanes that hit the east coast, the soldiers were told they didnt have to go to the Tomb because of the weather. The soldiers all went and did their jobs, weather and all. DEDICATION.
I cannot watch this ceremony live or on video without years rolling down my cheek. The honor and reverence shown by these men is overwhelming. God bless them all
Me too. Having been in the service I understand the difference between the actual military, their sacrifice, and what it represents and the idiotic media portrayal of the service. God bless all of our fallen heroes.
I love these ceremonies and I also hate it when it’s ruined by people who can’t show respect for these brave men who died for our country. Dress up like you appreciate these men.
Jesus people. You come to this Tomb to pay respect for the people who is unnamed and served for their country. You do not simply pull out a camera and be like: Let's watch the guard for an hour.
+Sarcastic Wolff do you really think people actually go there to pay respect? they are only there because it is kind of tourist magnet. The same with the guards in england
recording this isn't disrespectful in itself (though I understand your feelings, I museums recorded a small portion not up by the rope). if done respectfully and silently it can bring this honor to many more people than could possibly visit this sacred place

It can be a place of learning. I think letting people see honor in action is very important. Sorry the guard had to deal with a bunch of Yahoos, but maybe he made an impression where we teachers weren't able to.

Ryan Nugent I know right? Before each guard change the leaving guard thoroughly inspect the coming guard. Not a piece of lint, a wrinkle, or a un buttoned button will be tolerated.
People dont come to pay respect to the dead but rather take their cameras or cell phones to watch the guard do their work . What a shame . If I ever had a chance to ever go there I would pay me respect to the dead of the unknown that gave up their lives so other can be free . I would stand in an upright position as best as I can and not make a sound . People dont know how to show respect .
+Jeff Mullinix Agreed, this should be a place of reverence and respect for those who gave their lives in the service of our nation. Stand up straight, be quiet, and reflect on the sacrifices the members of our armed forces are willing pay for us, as nation, and as individuals. It should be quiet and peaceful, those soldiers died in service to us, they earned the right for some peace and quiet at their final resting place.
+Jeff Mullinix I came here after being medivaced out of Iraq to Walter Reed Army Medical Center. I remember hearing the snickers and giggles of the crowd while some visitors made jokes and a few talked about how it must be a marine because of the uniform. . Im sure there were a few people there out of respect but the vast majority were there as detached tourists. My intentions were to come here and reflect on my experience in Iraq, while appreciating the dedication of my fellow infantrymen as they guard this tomb tirelessly. Needless to say I got to do neither. Instead I left pissed off and disconnected from the civilians around me.
+Marc C it is disheartening to hear you say that my friend . for what its worth i can agree with you coz that how i would feel too if i was in your position .
It is disheartening, it is also just plain disappointing. Where has respect gone in this world? Where has composure gone? How hard is it to realize that this is a place to pay respects, and compose yourself accordingly?
He even says the request respectfully, if not a bit loud, to both make the point and not scare young ones and those who don't know any better. I think watching these guards is very fascinating, the precise movements and control they have is truly amazing.
luuk 024 you’re so uneducated and your claims prove that. You are a generic disrespectful 13 year old I’ve come across many times in the comment sections. These are soldiers that are good at multiple things besides doing just this. And even then it’s harder than you think. I’d love to see you try. Pathetic kid. They’re also trained to do this under many conditions, such as kinds of weather weather. You don’t see the reality of things and appreciate what you have and what has been done to get you where you’re at. You know literally nothing.
luuk 024 you obviously don’t know what it stands for if you were just asking yourself “why” while you were there. They train for a lot more than just “walking” as you see it. I have to explain everything in great detail for you to understand even a little bit.
luuk 024 hahaha. I’m sure you do man. I’m sure you do. This “waste of tax money” probably affects you a couple dollars a year, plus these are usually vets or still serving soldiers that can do much other things. The fact that you think this is a waste and can’t see any other way blows my mind that you can’t even see it a little bit. May not mean anything to you but it means a lot to other people, so if I were you I’d keep my opinions about this to yourself bud.
Very solemn to me as a former soldier. In 1998 I took my Father in law who was a Russian fighter pilot in World War Two to Arlington where one of my cousins is buried. He asked specifically to go while visiting. At the tomb he cried. After as we started to leave, he asked to shake hands and greet some young soldiers and sailors standing around. He spoke no English so my wife interpreted for him. He shook hands and cried some more and the young guys just were thrilled to meet him.I was so proud of those young men and thanked them for their service on my Father in laws behalf and for me as well. I served 6 years in the Army and couuld not have been more proud of these young men.
Is there some way an outer cordon could be put in place and an instructional briefing be given to all members of the public before allowing them to progress further into the site where the Tomb of the unknown soldier is located? This could control things better.
I've seen this happen in person and I was embarrassed for the people that got yelled at. especially since one of them was in uniform at the time. People think Arlington Cemetery is an amusement park and that the guard is a character like Mickey Mouse that is just there for the tourists.
x Jokerz wow.. can't believe you'd say something disrespectful and foolish like that to the people who defend your freedom.... unless you don't live in america then i don't care lol
No. Take your phones out and take plenty of pictures. You really think military people feel disrespected by people being on their phones? They're a little more tougher than you give them credit for
You guys he means put down the phones to actually have a moment of true silence for these soldiers that kept our country safe; just because you film a video or take pictures doesn’t mean your giving true respect. There’s plenty of videos and pictures to stare at later. Take the time to be somber and have a little human emotion to these unknown soldiers that fought to keep our country free.
The whole World is one big tombstone...Its only a temporarily one as well....Earth doesn't last forever...Stop being anal over matters that do insignificant to the big picture...

SHAME ON THAT CROWD!! I traveled from Seattle to pay my respects to my two uncles and grandfather buried there...I attended this ceremony (on a different day) and I cried. God bless America 🇺🇸🙏🇺🇸
I have a list of current and past family members that have served. Living and dead for this country. I cannot say enough of how proud I am that soldiers are acknowledged and citizens are put in their place to show respect. Kudos for this soldier for keeping it together. These soldiers they honor are their brothers and they truly mourn them. Even after death they have their back. We as citizens need to respect that.
The three most respective monuments I have ever attended has been Antietam battlefield ,Gettysburg battlefield and the tomb of the unknown soldier. I left all three with a tear in my eye and lump in my throat
Gettysburg is especially sobering, to think of all the men who suffered and died on those grounds. I never had this though until my last visit: I have new respect for the citizen of that town (at the time of the battle). The soldiers moved on after three days, those in the town were left to clean up and bury all of those soldiers (and horses) who perished. I can't imagine the carnage, made even worse by the July heat.
***** correct. you go to pay respect. I went there and seen it and if you go it seems to be a tourist attraction but once it starts, if you're any kind of American with half a brain, the tourist feel wears off and you gain a sense of pride for being American. if that sense of pride and appreciation doesn't wash over you, then one would suggest you leave the country immediately.
Daniel Jamieson Less a tourist attraction and more a chance to observe a very solemn ritual. The tourist attraction is in London...it's disgraceful how those tourists treat those guards.
Cruz07 You know after all the intense training and regimen, then making it to be one of the chosen few guards, that has to upset them to the core. Spending hours before going out there in order to present perfectly and impeccable and having people disrespectfully talking. These young men are AWESOME AMERICANS. :)
I was raised in Arlington, Virginia and my mother always told me that a wife or mother of a soldier/airman whose remains were never found or identified could come here to grieve, thinking that perhaps it was her loved one.
The Sentinel was/is correct. Do we yell at out parents' cemetery? No. But because Arlington National Cemetery is home to several thousand dead soldiers, airmen, sailors, etc., there's always a few in the crowd to stir things up. The Sentinel stepped of the Mat when he adressed the crowd because tht Mat is solely for The Walk. *The Mat is changed twice a year; before the gates open on Memorial Day (May 30), and November 11 (the end of World War I)

From Lake Odessa, MI. I was fortunate to be able to watch this ceremony while visiting the Vietnam Wall. It was quiet and humbling ceremony. It was a different time in 2003. 911 had happened and respect was at an all time high as well as patriotism. I had tears in my eyes for the dedication shown to an unknown soldier by soldiers who volunteer to carry on the tradition. God Bless them and God Bless America!
That's why I don't take my kids to the movies until they can sit still and be quiet for 2 hours. My first son wasn't able to go to the movies until he was 7 (we tried when he was 4, that was a nightmare and a waste of $30 bucks). As for my 2nd son, he's almost 5 and not faring much better TBH 😄
Shout out to Hinesville, Ga. I know it gets hot as hell in GA..but I can't imagine being in a dark suit, in the middle of July/August, marching anywhere outside. These guys are outstanding.
I keep seeing people insist that the weapon carried by the guard is loaded. While it is a fully-functional rifle, it is not loaded. The rifle is an M14, which has a large magazine that extends out of the bottom of the receiver. Also, if you watch a video of the guard change, you will see the sergeant of the guard inspect the interior of the weapon after the bolt has been locked to the rear. Were the weapon loaded, a round would be extracted from the chamber and ejected out. The sergeant would also not be able to look into the interior of the weapon through the magazine well, as it would be obstructed by the magazine. However, the soldier guarding it is highly trained in bayonet drill and has no issue defending that tomb from any and all threats. People forget that the soldiers who guard the Tomb are overwhelmingly drawn from combat roles, especially infantry. With the constant wars the United States has been involved in, there is a high probability that the guard is a combat veteran. In addition to that, the Tomb is guarded by the 3rd Infantry Regiment, which does still have line combat battalions. So no, the weapon is not loaded. Attempting to approach the Tomb will probably get you a bayonet to the chest, and it will be your fault.
I thought it looked like a M1. I'll take your word about it being a M14 look almost the same. Shorter gas tube on the M14 is the only way I can tell them apart. Watched it again yep M14.
OEFBugout they do carry a loaded magazine on them so Incase there is a very dangerous situation they can swap out the empty mag in the weapon for the fully loaded one in about a second I just learned about this a few hours ago
@Terri Freeman someone got your knickers in a bunch... it isn't a lie to say the younger generations are the ones who cause the most problems. I am a gen Z and am fully aware at how stupid my generation acts most of the time. Don't even get me started on how bad kids born after me (different generation) will be.
it's got nothing to do with age. boomer where spitting on soldiers in the sixties. probably some of the same people that tell you to play by the rules were in fact little better then criminals when they were younger.
I remember when i was there last summer, we got lucky because there wasn’t nearly as many people there, so it was quiet. What an experience. Absolutely incredible sight.
I will remember 09/29/2017 09:32 EDT for the rest of my life. It's the first time a RUclips video comments section didn't leave me wanting to smack someone for being mean, hurtful, immature and disrespectful. I admit I may have been a little abrasive in some of my comments on other videos but the earth is not flat and they were morons. Thanks for posting the video Ralph, it's humbling and makes proud to be an American.
Having visited the Tomb of the Unknowns and seeing the changing of the Guard many times it appears to me that for many, many visitors this is the first time they have ever seen a Military Ceremony and due to pure ignorance and/or poor upbringing they act inappropriately. The guard then introduces them to a place where respect is demanded. In this world where nothing is sacred anymore and vulgarity passes for civilized behavior I appreciate the guards efforts as they teach the masses about honor and respect for the sacrifices made so they can all be slobs.
I live in the area and have visited many times also. I’ve seen young toddlers get away from their inattentive parents and run past the ropes. I’ve been there when the talking/noise has gotten too loud. I’ve seen a lot of disrespectful behaviors. I’ve also been to similar places in other countries. Same shit. People just don’t know how to behave out in public. For God’s sake, people behave better at the singing of our national anthem at ball games than at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers.
Thank you! I’ve lost my brother, sister, grandpa, both sets of great-great grandparents and almost my dad in the military. The tomb is a place of respect, honor, dignity, and to remember those who gave it all so we have the chance to get it all. When me and my class went for our 8th grade trip I was silencing kids in our group. (This next part felt very rewarding and kinda awkward for me) the guard who was leaving as we where looked at me and nodded. We got back on the bus and my teacher gave me permission so I lay into them about it. I spent a solid 25 minutes (could gone longer but had to leave) talking to a few kids about respect and what the tomb represents and means. Needless to say that was last year and I’m now in ROTC. I respect the men and women who defend every single person every single day! I respect them more then most realize you can. The guards at the tomb are the ones I respect the most. They are there 24/7/365 even when it’s dark and no one is there they take those 21 steps and 21 seconds. They do it with pride.
their feet have worn stains exactly where every step is taken since they dedicated this. when I noticed this watching a video I was brought to tears. These men and women love their job and perform it with precision and love of country.
Brian Baumgarn ..and just think. Generation after generation of young men AND women, have gone through the gruelling process to walk that path. To be a Tomb Guard is a very rare detail to get selected for. The quality of training showes. I was on the Alexandria Police Dept Honor Guard. We trained with the 3rd Platoon, platoon seargeant and 1st squad leader. Gave us very good pointers on our D and C. Our honor guard was one of the best in the region.
I was at Fort Meade in early 1960 went to see the changing of the guard many times. I always left Arlington cemetery with more pride than before I went in and some of the military people I was with felt the same . Now I might be wrong about what I'm saying now but in general pride is something you can't see you feel it .I read the one remark that was written and how discussed he was with his classmates and read them out with permission. Taking our history figures does not help our history is something to be proud of not to destroy. A prime minister member of the old USSR made a statement at the United Nations in 1960 that it would take over the USA with out firing a shot his theory was the use of drugs will do our own harm. Is he correct.
This happened on my 8th grade field trip yesterday. Some kid put his jacket on the railing and the guard yelled, "Remove Your Jacket from the railing"
Layomi Sunmonu Good thing you weren't in England and it was with the Queens guard. They would have probably pointed their guns at him
godisgoodallthetime they’d prolly shoot them
Layomi Sunmonu I went last year as well for my eighth grade field trip, we may have went on the same days who knows
I thought he was going to scream "Shut that fucking baby up!"
they were whistling
palerider957 dude one time I went there the guard yelled at a toddler's mother to get him under control
Yeah...lots of wasted hours to do silly movements. No skill involved in walking.
站在反对邪恶醒来帮助 have you ever marched wearing full kit in the blazing sun for several hours

Not enough exclamation points.

These are men who will stand their post in freezing weather. These are men who will stand their post in such heat and humidity, that they will pass out. These are men that will stand their post in a hurricane, defying the orders of their CO, and his CO. Do you grasp the level of discipline and duty in what I speak of?

They died for a rich elitist not Americans
rezsurfer I will not deny that elitists did make money off of these wars however the reasons for entering them did not involve financial gain for certain groups.

I was lucky enough to go and watch this and it was truly amazing that Americans still have respect for past soldiers who died in combat.
Caleb Phillips well yes, who wouldn't honor those who've died to give us the individual and societal freedoms we have right now
CDZ ' oh boy you'd be surprised
Caleb Phillips just due to the fact you doubt members of the armed forces had no respect speaks volumes of your ignorance.
The Old Gaurd will follow their orders even if war is raging around them because that is the sacrifice earned by the Unknown Soldiers who rest there.
Caleb Phillips Not all Americans just a small minority of Intelligent Republicans
Amen!

J War just to their website and it’ll tell you the lies people say like not being able to drink alcohol they can as long as they aren’t on duty
@J War
Volunteer for the training, few pass.
They can be male or female too, and no, there arent restrictions on off duty behavior more than any other soldier.
I imagine that if you made a fool of yourself out of uniform, you'd be drummed out right quick. Higher standard and all. But I doubt the kind that would do that would ever volunteer to begin with.
I had to replay the part where Sentinel basically told them to shut up, it was too smooth. But I agree, the crowd was being disrespectful.
Time?

He wasn't telling them to shut up.. It's his requirement to state that the area is to have complete silence. Notice he checks his gun then makes his statement?

Welcome to black America. You should see them in movies, or at funerals. Hell, you just have to watch them get a speeding ticket to understand the basics. Screeching, arguing, then pulling a gun, getting shot, then their entire community screeching, arguing, then pulling guns, then the media hiding the violent part, and claiming they're all victims, enabling the cycle to continue. No one calls them out for their bullshit so they keep on with it.

DEDICATION.
We should make a law for anyone laughing or being disrespectful at these graves should be personally slapped by the soldiers guarding it.

+Jeff Mullinix I was thinking the same thing. They're out there like its a Disney show.
Its amazing to see the paths of the soldiers before them as they have walked it for nearly a century.
Uh, they walk back and forth all day, congratulations I guess
It is too bad that this guard had to call out the crowd! Silence and Respect at all times.
The difference is they do it because they want too, not because they have too, sure anybody could do it but would they? No they would not.
luuk 024 can you stfu and stop posting these comments everywhere thanks
I attended this earlier this year and thank God I was in a crowd that was respectful.
Is there some way an outer cordon could be put in place and an instructional briefing be given to all members of the public before allowing them to progress further into the site where the Tomb of the unknown soldier is located? This could control things better.

It's sad that grown assed adults have to be reminded of simple things like this. Good job.
And rightfully so!.......For any veterans reading this....THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE!
Mark G. You took the words right from my mouth. Bless you and have a great day!

The Sentinel was/is correct. Do we yell at out parents' cemetery? No. But because Arlington National Cemetery is home to several thousand dead soldiers, airmen, sailors, etc., there's always a few in the crowd to stir things up.

OEFBugout No. You will get warned. Worst Case Scenario for being retarded civilian military police.
I thought it was a M1 Garand
Wrong...and where on or in their uniform is this "loaded magazine?"

My uncle who I am named after was a guard here . He never spoke of it but I know it was one of his proudest moments. May he Rest In Peace.

Very on target comment. The last sentence is ESPECIALLY succinct and DELICOUSLY indulgent! I LOVED it!
I've only been there twice but I can't imagine watching them ever get old. And I definitely can't imagine disrespecting their honor guard.
