Nice
A true guitar hero for the non-shredders. Glad to hear those Marr tones still so clean and strong.
Exactly- well said. His playing is so subtle yet clever. JM understands and promotes the theory that you don't need to flood your tone with overdrive and play a thousand notes per second. No doubt he can shred fast etc, but doesn't feel the need to.
Pardon me, please see Draize Train Live
danoz he’s better than all the shredders. Shredding is meaningless. No soul to it. Johnny’s playing has emotion & soul to it.
@@danozism Some of Johnny's stuff is "thousand notes per second" to be fair. Listen to the bridge of Bigmouth Strikes Again. There are other examples as well.
his playing is absolitely unique !!
The Smiths were great....but this is sublime ... Johnny is now the full package...he can write his own tunes and needs to be respected for his awesome body of work
If you are suggesting this is better than The Smiths then you are mistaken.
Easily Johnny’s best solo song, what a legend.
This is Johnny's 4th best solo song IMO. European Me is Johnny's best solo song, followed by Down on the Corner and Somewhere.
Even without Morrissey, Marr still amazes us with his beautiful demonstrations of guitar playing. God bless this man.
Got a good voice too
@@tazador793 He sounds like he's trying to sound exactly like Morrissey which is fucking weird.
@@FaxanaduJohn : No. Listen again more carefully.
@@FaxanaduJohn haters gonahate
@@FaxanaduJohn you gonna piss your pants about it?
Around 1:39 in this song it sounds similar to “There is a Light that Never Goes Out” and that’s totally all right by me. 💗
Igual
more like patty smith's song "Frederick:".
Amsing song
I felt it from the first strum of the guitar. And yes totally fine by me.
Patti Smith-Dancing Barefoot
Only Johnny plays like Johnny. What a masterpiece!
1:38 THERE IS A LIGHT THAT NEVER GOES OUT
U2 - Dancing Barefoot
@@adribono Patti Smith - Dancing Barefoot, actually.
Absolutely.
Yep - exact same strings
@@marciocouto3543 Here I go and I don't know whyyyyyyyyy....
Johnny Marr is my guitar God. No other songwriter on this planet can compare to his genius. Utter genius.
very Smithsy...right down to the one-note Moz vocal line....but let's not get carried away with the "God Genius" schtick.... "the Right Thing" is much better than this
@@bellinghammond 🤣😜
You're right.
Jesus is my real God.
I love them both so much!
Long Live Johnny Marr!
Classic Marr Guitar Style!
The guitar outro (the last minute of the song) is just f*cking sensational. That blend of melancholy, melodic and uplifting - only Johnny f*ckin' Marr can do it.
Johnny Marr 😎🇬🇧😎 Paul Weller, makes you proud to be english, not much else does these days.
Thank u Johnny Marr for this song
Marr is just magical live. Go see him if you get a chance.
You are correct. Marr is one of the few genius artists still giving us what we need...beautiful music...simple as that...a true genius.
It’s true I flew to the uk to see him and got to meet him best day ever!
I don't care what anyone says Johnny marr is definitely in my top 10 greatest guitarist list
Top 2 for me lol
@@sinnerboy6009 so i assume 2nd then or you would ave said top XD. but what is your first place guitarist
@@chrishaynes1804 Rory Gallagher check him out if already haven’t 😁Johnny’s up there too 👍
@@sinnerboy6009 ok ye I'll go check home out dude have a good 1 👍
Johnny Marr - Best quitarist hands down.
It isn't even that complicated, hard to play or even well composed. It's actually pretty average. Listen to mark knopfler, david gilmoore, eric clapton, jimi hendrix or keith richards if you wanna enjoy the real masters
@@Vracka It shouldn't necessarily be complicated or hard to play to be beautiful. There is a beauty and genious in simplicity
@@Vracka while yes all of those guitarists you named are amazing and are all some of favourite guitarists ever, it's not how complex johhnys playing is that makes him so good it's his distinct style/sound where he takes inspiration from hendrix and nile Rodgers and usually uses unique chords that sound very open, that's why I personally think he's one of the best guitarists of all time he's not the most technically proficient player but he's an amazing composer and I would listen to him just playing rhythm over any sort of mark knofler solo.
@@Vracka listen to the Smith's. He's different level
0:16 The guitar riff in the background is amazing.
So so beautiful!!!!!
Best thing he's done in years. This jangley melancholy style suits him better than his last record. This song captured a vibe.
The classic Johnny Marr guitar sound. Pure class!
Four years on from this release and it's still one amazingly beautiful piece of music. What a genius JM is. If only the other genius could record together again with JM and do what only comes along once in a life time. Make the dream real.
How silly pride wrecked a beautiful thing?
Perfect.
AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING 🤘💥💥✨💛
Listening to it again a couple of years after the first time (and after giving it a "like"), I can see where it definitely has that There Is A Light That Never Goes Out vibe, i. e. up there with the best of the Smiths. A fine song!
Same broh! When i hear for first time, sounds a little weird and simple, but no this time hits more deep and smooth.
Me too ❤
Johnny Marr's style and melody is still so refreshing; it hasn't "aged", but rather matured like fine wine. His voice is also pleasant and easy on the ear. I feel that Johnny still has so much more to offer creatively. However, the question still remains if the Smiths will ever reunite, even if it were merely the songwriting partnership of Morrissey / Marr? I guess some partnerships like friendships are there for a time and season only, but it would hypothetically be interesting to see what they would sound like now if they were to reunite.
@Harrison Gent It's a good point. One gets the feeling that when members of a songwriting partnership go their separate ways things are never the same further down the line. That creative foundation they had once built won't go away, but they both have different purposes, different goals now. When "The Police" reunited just briefly in the mid 2000's and did a World Tour it was from what I heard purely for financial reasons to prop up the living of the other members of the band who weren't involved in the songwriting process because Sting wrote all the songs. I think you're right that if the Smiths were to reunite even if just briefly it could well be an anti-climax, and therefore it's perhaps best for former creative partnerships to be risk averse in this sense. I wasn't aware of the results of the Stone Roses reunion, but it seems to show as the old cliche goes that all good things come to an end, but then again remarkably The Rolling Stones just keep going on and on!
@Harrison Gent Someone once told me that they felt that "The Smiths were the best British band after The Beatles". Like The Beatles they were around for five years before disbanding. With regard to the influence The Smiths had on bands as diverse as the "Red Hot Chili Peppers" to "Radiohead" I can certainly see merit in the above remark. The fact that The Smiths, like the Beatles still have such a tight-knit and adoring fan base is a clearly a testament to their greatness as a band (even though I'm saying this in the present tense). There's a certain value is realising that money couldn't buy them back as a band.
@Harrison Gent That's excellent.
now this is a beautiful song
Johnny Marr is the absolute coolest musician on the planet at the moment and the fact that he is exceedingly humble makes us love him even more. Young musicians take note and learn from The Legend.
you don't know how humble he is, because you don't know him? Has he ever said anything exceedingly humble?
Johnny Marr is the best thing that ever happened in this world.
The music world..yeah
Chuck Norris cant break Johnny Marr's guitar.
Bigbad Crawford Why you gotta be that guy? It's clearly a hyperbole. Shut the fuck up.
I agree his guitar playing is sublime and heavenly , met him once in Manchester and such a nice modest man and generous , gave my son a guitar pick with his name on it and now he plays lead guitar thanks to Johnny ....legend
I couldn't agree more
As a Marr fan, this is superb, potentially his best solo work!
As a Smiths fan, I hope they can let bygones be bygones one day and we get to her Morrissey sing this with Johnny!
A very very gentle man...and timeless songwriting....superb...love you johnny...
Great song. It's a modern tune with a nod to the 80s. Really puts me back there.
The king has returned
He never left!!
Oh Yeah!!!
Damn Right!!!
Sixpence none the richer
youre not wrong bro.
1:38 - 1:46 sounds a lot like the outro of "There Is a Light That Never Goes Out"
yes, unfortunately, it's kinda derivative (albeit, from his own song), wish he could pen something new
Seven Nation Army + Dancing Barefoot + There is a Light That Bever Goes Out
He is a victim of his own band!💣💥
That man can play the guitar. Shit hot
Man he sure knows how to express himself through that 12-string.
One of, if not the best guitar-players I know of.
He's at the top. The stuff is composed brilliantly.
His singing has improved.
It's clean, the sound, and jangle, somehow. I love it. More .. just keep making more music
Grettings from Buenos Aires Johnny!
johnny strikes again...
no qualifiers required. an honest to goodness masterpiece. Johnny is still a young man. hopefully, he'll bless us w/ another banger like this some time soon.
The Smiths , Electronic or single artist , Johnny Marr is still great
Awesome! Johnny is the best guitar player in the world and his work with The The is immortal
I could listen to that majestic guitar interlude at about 3:08 to 3:20 on repeat forever.
This is beautiful. We are so lucky to have him.
My guitar hero since I was 16 years old - you keep me alive Johnny!
Beautiful, haunting melody and lyrics. This song really needs to get some airplay.
Airplay where?
Absolutely, it’s 2024 and I’m hearing this for first time 😢
Que som sensacional. Ele é sem dúvida a alma dos Smiths.
❤ Thanks for this Johnny
Johnny Marrvelous has done it again.
2023! Still enjoying this awesome tune!
When are you coming up?
Get away now and don’t look back
I'm gonna pick you up
Hear what you say and you're going so fast
And I see you coming down that line
See the future for tomorrow's child
And I watch you when you're losing your mind
And you can't let go
All the places, all the steps
You clamber up the beaten track
When you've fallen and you keep on climbing
You never look back
So hi hello
Whatever you need and wherever you go
I can't say no
One heart beat, any place we run
And I see you coming down that line
See the future for tomorrow's child
And I'll find you when the lights are blinding
And you can't get home
It's never soon enough
And forever's gonna come too fast
Time is calling us
Gets in the way and unfolds the past
When there's nobody else around
On a train, on the way from town
And you feel like you can't be found
And you can't let go
All the faces taking up your time
You say leave me alone
Yes, tomorrow you're the future's child
And I know where to go
So hi hello
Whatever you need and wherever you go
I can't say no
Walk our street any day you want
And I see you coming down that line
On the street, all alone at night
And I'll find you if you're losing your mind
And you can't let go
No, I won't let go
Hi hello
Hi hello
Addressed to himself? Morrissey? The Smiths?
Brilliant...
thinkpotato thanks 💕
are off the beaten track
@@Wapak95 his wife was my guess...it's a support letter to someone I felt like
When "There is a Light that Never Goes Out" and "Dancing Barefoot" meet up.
Wow I didn't hear dancing barefoot but you're right towards the end yes indeed.
Totally ! Great call
I knew I have heard this before!
The strings reminded me of there is a light that never goes out so much
Well, he wrote both of those songs so.....
Heaven knows i'm happy now!
godammit...Im addicted to this song! I just hope Mr Marr plays this song in Manchester...👀
Excellent song. It could be a song written for Noel Gallagher on his early adventures with Oasis. Marr gifted Gallagher with a guitar that made legendary music.
Johnny Marr can create a mesmerising sound. The outro of this track is out of this world.
Love love love love
A Ghost From The Past ----- Of One Of The Great Bands Of The 80s ----- Well Done ----- Sir ----- Well Done !
Fantastic.
Johnny Marr the most original guitar sound ever.....
keys are THERE IS A LIGHT! not sure if I think that rocks or is it flogging a dead horse?
JM the most versatile pop guitarist of all time . Muah to Marr!
Look Marr is a genius as is Morrissey together they were then and as they still are above everything you are ever going to hear .As artists in there own right they are still out there on there own the best you are going to get.
A master craftsmen who has influenced many who have come after him. Signature guitar sounds that are unmistakably his.
I fell in love with this song from the moment the song began to flow. by Japanese 23 years old.
Yes. I climbed onto a chair in the waiting room so that the Shaazam app would capture the melody clearly.
Happy birthday Johnny Marr.
What a beautiful song.
The melody wizard strikes again!
This song is sublime.Very Smiths-like Very british 80s "mournful" guitar sound (i.e Smiths,Lloyd Cole,House of Love etc) but beautiful , warm lyrically. Nice vocals too. On repeat now.
Komo Lee Ray johnny is the smiths
Spot on description.
I couldn't agree with you more. You absolutely hit the nail on the head with that description. What a beautiful melancholic song. Love it.
Echoes of the Smiths, mournful, melodic, quintessentially British.
Komo, you got anymore recommendations for other modern groups that fall within this sound?

The real and enduring sound of the Smiths.
This music is just pure heaven

Almost four years later and this song still resonates with My Soul like the first time I heard it.. Thank you. Johnny Marr.
This song makes me feel like I have known it all my life. Its great! 🤘 Johnny Marr 🤘
Thats because it's basically 7 nation army
That guitar tho. Stunnin

INDIE ROCK AWESOME
great song, can't stop playing it, just feels good
Fantástico cantor e guitarrista! Só podia ter feito parte do The Smiths..
Brilliant is the definition
Glad to see he is playing his Fender Jag signature on this. Ha ha ha. Love him. Rickenbacker should have given him a signature guitar years ago.
Don't know if i'm being paranoid but the synth line on 1:38 remembers me there's a light that never goes out...which is a great thing!
Really growing into the solo artist role. His first 2 albums were of a high standard, but this is up a notch. This is lovely. Mint.
Johnny Marr brilliant man
Love Marr, one of the best … absolutely love him
Oh wow Johnny, that is simply f*cking beautiful. Gorgeously melancholic echoes of The Smiths too. Thank you.
Real brit music
Why aren't the Smiths in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame yet???
Because that's not what they were about i guess 🤔
Would Morrissey show up?
Because they were a rock band
Not quite. It must be 25 years since your major label debut. The Smiths' first record was released in 1984, so they've been eligible since 2009. The voters have simply not seen fit to recognize them. Take from that what you will.
Because Morrisey is a douchebag who broke up the Smiths
So Johnny Marr !!! Awesome !!
great ..... finally great music and great artist ... God save the Queen !!!!
Fucking incredible. Expected nothing less from Johnny Marr. I've a feeling Call the Comet is going to be a strong 10/10
Just heard this song live in Dublin. One of the best of the night. Marr’s guitar comes through more and better live.
Another cracking tune!
The best guitar Player from the Smiths🎸🎸🎸🎶
What a beautiful song. Nothing else compares at the moment!
Great song for late summer/fall!
