I agree with you that it’s not anything like Legendary; it definitely doesn’t have the same feel. I like John’s screaming. 8.7 is a good rating; I’m pleased with that.

I figured it’d be a bit too techy for you. It grew on me the more I listened to it. I get why they went a bit techy. The songs called surviving the game. So they made it a bit digital. Kind of a play on words if you will. But the lyrics are outstanding.
I’d love to hear your reaction to their newest single, “Standing in the Storm.” You May like it better than this song. It’s heavier, and John does more screaming. Come on, fellow Panheads, let’s get David to react to “Standing in the Storm.”
I really hope David does, but I can’t see it happening, and plus I feel like it’s a bit too electronic for David
@@apec335 Perhaps, but it's got more vocals from Jen in it and a killer drum beat, so that might make up for the electronic bits. I think it's a superior piece from a composition standpoint. By the way, what do you think of White Horse? I was completely kicked off my *** by how freaking bizarre it was, but I've grown to really like it now.

Skillet will always be special to me for very personal reasons i hate saying something bad about skillet but their music sounds the same to me now I have my favorite songs and some I don’t like when I first heard a new album was coming I got excited but was very disappointed cause it sounded the same but still skillet will always be important to me
The first time I heard this, it hit me really hard and really got me hyped up. It's interesting though...listening to YOUR recording, the sound engineering feels...different. Maybe it's the sound setup or speakers, but for some reason the sounds levels (peaks and troughs) are more even and it seems to take away from the ups and downs of the energy levels I heard the first time I heard it. To me, the recording coming through on the video is very...flat...compared to when I listen to it on my iPod or Android. I also agree with you about the increased levels of production in the song compared to past songs. Their next single from this album is also a little over-produced with more of a hip hop feel, and I'm not a fan of that at all. The chords in the chorus- Cm--> Ab--> Eb -->Dm- is a nice progression and non-formulaic. The vocals- and the lyrics- are the high points, I agree. I would like to see them lean further away from the over-producing and FX a little more. Otherwise, if you have a good sound system that will peak and trough with the music, it can be very much a roller coaster similar to Legendary, but obviously not on that level. All in all, it is a fun song and a great driving song.

I really have to ask man, once this album drops and it if gets people talking, and a bunch of people asking for a full album review, would you consider it, unfortunately it will be a longer video, but yeah.

I would consider it, but there would have to be a TON of people asking for it. Also, a video of that length would more than likely have to be done on Patreon as a Patreon exclusive due to having to get by not just one copyright, but all the copyrights for all the songs in one video. If there's enough interest and enough demand, we'll see.

Great reaction. First off I agree with you, it’s definitely not as anthemic as Legendary besides the chorus. I’d say they’re pretty close in that regard, but overall, NO. Second I liked your point about the staggering harmonies. Nice switch up from what they normally do. Didn’t really pick up on that before.
I think the reason it was hyped up so much from the requesters(myself included, although I didn’t hype it up, just simply a request😉) was that it’s been over two years since they released an album. People were just anxious for your reaction to a brand new song from them😜

I give this song a 9.2/10. I’m not lying- this is genuinely one of the best songs I’ve ever heard-
The chorus SLAPS- WAYYYY 2 hard. The metal is everywhere, the drums are always perfect, and it’s just a head banger. It’s very up beat, and insanely catchy.
The vocals- Jen and John go together like Nutella and Pretzels…. Like you said, as soon as John goes down, Jen comes up, and as soon as she goes down, he comes up. I also I’ve the “SURVIVIN’ THE GAME!” at the beginning and the end of the chorus.
The 1 huge thing to bring this song own for me, was the lack of a guitar solo. Guitar solos from Skillet, are amazing. And I would have dug to here a Dominion like solo- but alas.
Yeah. I love this song to absolute death! An 8.7 is reasonable-

Also, in case you were wondering the music video for this song is now sitting at nearly 2.9 MILLION views two months after release 👀. So yeah, it will definitely get you there, and then some lol

I like trying to guess his score based on his reactions to the song and his comments, although I only listen to his Skillet reactions for the most part .... that being said I am watching this one for the second time now. When bored I rewatch Skillet reactions, instead of other new reactions to different bands, that are well just not Skillet lol
I love Skillet and always will, but for me this song just doesn’t have enough to make it in normal rotation. I’m hoping the rest of the album better suits my taste. If not, no love lost, at least they tried something a little different.
Count me in as someone who is glad this song got moved up in the list 😉. I will admit I loved this song the first time I heard it, just classic hard hitting Skillet just like we've been getting for the last 4-5 albums. I would love to hear this song played live, I think in a live setting with the electronics stripped away this song would sound AWESOME. Kind of like Feel Invincible - the studio version is awesome in its own right, but it just hits different live 🤘.

Same, actually. I loved Standing in The Storm right away, but Surviving The Game took my a few listens.

Same ... us die hard panheads all having the same reaction. But it was different, and I actually really didn't like the start at first, I could still do without the starting annoying sound effects at the beginning. Their live playing of this song is not as processed. But loved it when the guitars kicked in, and Jen of course. It gave me a bit of a Fight the Fury feel!
I know there were digital drums and a lot of fx, but I am a little surprised that you were a little iffy on the song in a way, but I guess it makes sense, because we hyped it up so much, and you are critical in the way you listen to music (in a good way, but also slightly annoying to "super fans" of bands like me with Skillet. 😂) Glad you liked it though! I actually much prefer it to Legendary. Surprised that you didn't really mention the heavy riff with the screams; that's my fav part. Anyway yeah, new album "Dominion" out January 14th. I just bought the $45 preorder bundle because I could not resist! 🤣

@@kellystrickland7412 Oh nice! I am a bit of a cheapskate, so I originally was just going to buy it from Walmart (CD only) but that... changed lol. Not sure if you are aware of this, but Skillet actually has a $15 store credit right now until Sunday. If you used it, great! Otherwise, they should let you cancel and re-order with the $15 credit, since it obviously has not shipped yet. I just canceled my pre-order so I could re-order it with the discount!

Ok finally getting around to commenting. Listened to it of course first day you released it, however, busy, job transitioning, 3rd job in 2 months.
Yeah I was like ugh at the start of this song because of the processed noise at the beginning, had a "Dead man Walking" feeling to it, for me at the start and then just like David, smiled when Jen started singing and was like ugly faced head-banging when the guitars kicked in. And was like whoa ... wait this is heavy, feels like a Fight the Fury vibe. As some of the other die hard panheads said it took a few listens to, before I really got a taste for it.
But, besides some of Skillet's big hits, I took some time, and a few listens before I liked them. I tend to re-listen to their more heavier anthem type songs, before the rest of their album! Give me all hype songs all the time!!! 🤘🤘

Definitely different from Legendary. I had the same reaction when I first heard, the processing turned me off a little, though as it started coming thru my play lists more it definitely grew on me.
I was honestly surprised that you didn’t headband as hard as I thought you would with the chorus.
8 is higher than I would've given it (6 for me), as while I don't think it's a bad song I also don't think it's one of their best (I've heard better from them) and found it pretty decent overall, and that's listening to it at 1.75x speed. Of course just because one song on the new album is not for me doesn't mean the rest of them won't be either, we'll just have to wait and see on that. So yeah, decent song all around, and to quote Justine from Persona 5 "Not terrible, but not impressive".
P.S. I also agree in that this is in no way comparable to Legendary as that's a completely different song and feel to this one. Also just so you know an official music video was made for this song (released a couple days after the song dropped), so feel free to check it out in your spare time if you're interested.

Standing in the storm also took a few listens, before it grew on me.
I finally listened to that album today, it takes me awhile to wanna listen to new albums from bands I like. I gotta say... wasn't too into it. Went right back to Rise lol

Standing in the Storm and Surviving the Game, both took me listening to them 3 or 4 times to get into them. They were just different. So I believe that I just needed to listen to them, and get into the lyrics before I could get a good feeling about both songs. Standing in the Storm also has a lot of processing, so David, you probably won't like that part as well, perhaps we can find you a live version for you to listen to. Hopefully it will also not be a poor sound quality song too. Lol
