"I've surprised myself in how badly I miss parties and being surrounded by attractive people my age". I felt that on a deep level
Haha I feel you
yeeees
This really made me LOL. Several months ago I was complaining that it felt like months since I had seen another young person, I guess I had the same feeling as Nathaniel I just didn't know how to word it🤣😫
Me too
This is the most articulated way I've heard a person saying that he's horny. Very elegant. Great job. :)
I hope you're right man! CAN'T WAIT!
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
John 3:16 KJV
bible.com/bible/1/jhn.3.16.KJV
I don't want to sound like a cucu nuts... but this is known in Portugal,
I'm not inventing anything.
You can understand what happened in the 1st half of the last century if you read the message of Fátima (Portugal), but you can only "fully" understand those messages if you know about the persecutions to the church that occurred in that period and usually the History documentaries only show that in Russia, but those persecutions happened in other countries , in Portugal they were done by the republicans (any book will show them)
Nowadays you can still see changes in the world foreseen
in the Message of Fátima (like the change in the "traditional family") but maybe we can also have a glance of the future by looking at the messages of Medjugorje (Bosnia and Herzegovina)
... be careful about destroying statues and attacking churches that was already done a 100 years ago... and I used to think that abortion was something that was not a severe thing... well let's just say I changed my mind.
Love to you
Nathaniel: I see a great decade ahead
Me: I see he has a point
Dali: I see a rhinoceros
Underrated comment.
@midnight stories from a friend what is the movie? lol sounds fun
@midnight stories from a friend thank you!
@midnight stories from a friend Sounds good. I'll check it out
I for one will definitely be going on some type of social crusade once this pandemic ends. Whether that be partying with friends or eating out more often at restaurants, I miss the comradery of other human beings. Maybe this will trigger a worldwide version of the roaring twenties? Who knows... But what I do know is that, I'm extremely hopeful and optimistic for the future.
You're forgetting the Great Depression.
New baby boom incoming. And then the climate is fucked completely
Backpacking Revolution!
"I miss the comradery of other human beings." - Some guy from RUclips named Derek
I love it
The roaring 20s was the gilded age one of the most unequal periods in our history. This led to the Great Depression. Only a select upper class population was actually enjoying themselves. Our planet will not survive this again.
We should think of the years to come from a climate perspective in terms of what our planetary boundaries are.
There's an interesting concept in environmental studies known as the rebound effect. Emissions have decreased by c. 7% this year globally due to the lockdown measures, however, via the rebound effect, I suspect emissions will increase past the point they would have because people become opportunistic and travel and consume more to compensate the shambles of 2020.
I think the following years to come should be approached from an environmental perspective and we should avoid the 'roaring' consumeristic and unsustainable ways of living.
Yes, I totally agree
Exactly my thoughts!
I totally agree. It is time we get passed our egocentric needs and but nature first!
Yes hopefully this is a major wake up call for serious and deep collective change. We all need to get back to the kitchen and seriously take stock of what true sustainability means at a collective level.
I have begun to notice a very strange thing. In-person human interactions now exhaust me faster than they did during the 'normal' time. At this point, going almost a year without crowded events/ large gatherings, my capacity for socializing has reduced way too much. I like to believe that being social is a skill, it can be worked upon, like any other skill. I'm afraid I'll have to rework my social skills from scratch.
I feel like I need way more space than before too! But not in a negative way. I am less dependent on people now. And I think I can more easily distinguish between interactions that will energise me and those that will drain me, and say no to the latter.
I guess it's because we have stayed in our bubble and in a confortable space for so long! I'll definitely have to enlarge my confort zone again when we'll socialize again
I think what you’re saying is actually really interesting. Does this correlate with being introverted in any way? Do we need to redefine the definition of introverted and extroverted? (hopefully not in a negative fashion)
I think part of it is that there are a lot of small cues in body language or speech that became almost second nature to us to pick up on. Now, over a lot of time of not having as many interactions, we're rusty at that, and that can take a lot out of us trying to search for those nuances in our conversations. I think that extends to other aspects of socializing as well. I don't think it's gonna be a full rework, but instead it'll be just dusting it off.
*I think we can all agree that with this terrible situation, we really became more grateful for things we have* 🙏❤️
Agreeed man
Agreeed man
I can totally imagine that this will kind of be like a pendulum. Because of the pandemic, we were now pulled very far into one direction, but as soon as it is released, it'll just go to the other extreme for a while, until it eventually goes back to roughly where we were before.
Great description!
i'm not sure how to word it but i keep thinking about how the people who lived through the great depression tended to be frugal for the rest of their lives. i think most of us are going to be a lot more cautious (socially, hygienically etc) moving forward. there will probably be people who are more reckless than before too
Good point, I remember my grandparents being that way. However, when they needed something or had the chance to do something, if they could afford it, they did it, cause they had gone without for so long. And they didn't put it off with the idea of "some day. Sort of the memento mori idea, do it now cause we may not have tomorrow, (and we couldn't do it yesterday).
Whenever I go out for a walk to stretch my legs and I encounter another human being, I weirdly enjoy how they smell (perfume or natural scent). It reminds me of sitting next to someone in the train, behind someone in a cafe or meeting someone for the first time. Things I haven't done since February this year..
In my opinion things will never be the same. This situation has at least changed people's lifestyles in the sense that we are forced to spend time at home, with more online distractions and less outside distractions... I think finding a balance and taking advantage of our resources is key. I started a RUclips channel at the beginning of the quarantine as a personal project, and the growth is slow but making videos and improving my skills has become my biggest hobby (apart from travel). Good luck to everybody who finally decided to take up their personal projects during this odd time!!
It has been an interesting time, a good time to start on your passions and forced to stay focused haha
@Psoriasis Bodybuilder we got this!!
Same! lockdown inspired so many to start a RUclips channel. Let’s keep going 👍🏼
Yess the fact that these are the things we are dreaming about during these times (house parties and being around attractive people our age lol) is exactly why that is going to be the future to some degree. I know for me I used to turn down parties and social events because I just didn’t feel like filling up my schedule and ~there’s probably gonna be something else next week anyway~ but this year has proved that isn’t always the case and god i regret not doing more things earlier this year before ‘rona hit
I’m a total introvert but I can’t wait to be in a bar, drinking a nice cocktail, surrounded by people dancing 😬💃🏼
Me too. I wanna go to a concert and dance in close proximity to people and jump and cheer and scream and shout and bump into others in a huge crowd without a mask!
Same! I used to turn down going out all the time, now thats all I wish I could do
I've never once wished to go to a club until this quarantine
@@christopherspecht2660 I feel you 🤣
"even though that normal shouldn't be normal in the first place." damn, this is the thought im looking for.
I think you’re right. I also see strangers being randomly nicer to each other just bc we will all be on a little bit of a high to just be out, and not have to be so afraid of each other. That random kindness and excitement will probably fade with time bc humans lol but we can enjoy it while it’s here
“I miss house parties and being surrounded by attractive people my age” i feel you bruh
since you pointed out the history repeating itself, all I see is coming is the Great Depression...aaand a lot of quarantine babies :D
I agree with you, but on the other hand, the Roaring 20's did lead to the Great Depression. So with this in mind, maybe he has a point.
Abortion numbers are up!
Hey Nathanial, I totally agree. I recently read an article that this year the rate of people donating money in Germany greatly increased, which sounds contradicting, considering how many people feared for their jobs, but I think it underlines your point, that after this (and maybe the next year) we won't take what we have for granted again. I hope we learn from this (pay essential workers in all fields better!!!). Apart from that I feel like the 1920a are generally very romanticised. Especially looking at Peris. I read Hemingways "A movable feast" and Orwells "down and out in paris and london" and visited shakespeare and company several times. I understand why this decade sounds just amazing. I also feel like I am aiming for a slightly simpler life again, getting into "grandma" hobbies and enjoying spending time on my own. I think a lot of people during quarantine, due to necessity started picking up or restarted hobbies like baking, knitting,.... which are simple hobbies to help one enjoy time in the present. Those are my mixed and chaotic thoughts when thinking about the future :)
Party @ Nathaniel’s when this is all over 🥳😁
For me I think I will go out LESS after the pandemic. It made me see how I was filling my time with not very fulfilling things. I am not much of a shopper to be sure, but it still was something I did too much. It will be very interesting to see how this goes. I am in the USA so it will be a bit before this gets under control.
I’m in the same boat! Staying home put into perspective the things I did but never truly enjoyed, or made me feel fulfilled
We often don't appreciate the good things in life until we lose them, even if only temporarily.
Nathaniel, have you read the Atlantic article "Prepare for the Roaring Twenties" from May 2020? If not, you should check it out. I think you're right about the artistic and social response to the pandemic, and I'm excited for it.
And while I want to believe the pandemic has accelerated the fall of late-stage capitalism, I think this part of the article is especially relevant: "those who make bold predictions about the future should beware the 'predictive fallacy': Just because current circumstances provide reason to think that something /ought/ to be the case hardly means it /will/ be."
I just read the article. I actually agree with every single word. Thank you :)
Roaring 20s led to the Great Depression and were among the most unequal times in our history. Not something we should or can experience again without irreparable damage to our home planet.
I agree with you, but I'm a mix of anxious for the impact on the environment and excited for my own personal life/selfish reasons
As a chronically ill person i fear that others who are disabled, chronically ill, housebound and bedbound will be left behind. Having Zoom, Netflix party, ringing and texting as our primary form of communication has been profound on increasing accessibility.
I fear that once the pandemic is over (as soon as possible hopefully) we will forgot about those who wont be able to leave the house. The chronically ill wont be attending parities and celebrations because once they are no longer on facetime the housebound will not be able to attend them at all. Many will be at home still, possibly alone, as has been our reality for years.
Disabled people have been fighting for this stuff for so long and its been denied. The minute able bodied people needed it, it happened. So in the rush to travel, have face to face interactions, go back to Uni remember the world you want back so bad was not good. It left the already unwell at home, depressed, alone and forgotten.
Please remember that. Post covid, look around and ask could I be doing this if i was at home? If the answer if no, ask how can we make that happen? Could you zoom your unwell friend when you have people over? Could you facetime people who cant attend your wedding in person? Is the live performance you're seeing being recorded so the housebound can enjoy it? Is the small pottery class you are at still available online? Is your work still letting people have meeting over zoom? Is your Uni denying people access because they cant be there in person, are online lessons still available? Lets learn from our mistakes. Please.
wow real comment
i wish i could do more than just replying
I pray for you to be well. God bless you
Tbh I’m not as optimistic (I am a pessimist after all haha). I do hope we learn from this and evolve as a world, but yet I expect people to try to go back to the “way things were”-but maybe in a crazier way, like you said, because they’ll try to force it when I don’t think we can (or should) go back. Also, the Roaring 20s was soon followed by the Great Depression, the rise of fascism, and the most destructive war in human history. And seeing certain parallels amidst this pandemic is definitely worrying to me. I wanna believe in a better future but we humans don’t have a great track record haha
This was such a wonderful perspective to read before going to sleep. Sweet dreams of the next world war or unexpected crisis! :^)
I think the old "normal" will not come back, and in a good way. I would like to believe that coming out of this nightmare, we all will collectively cherish life, and not go back to autopilot. I know for myself that over the last 9ish months my values and perspective on what is really important has changed drastically.
I can only speak for myself, but covid has been a blessing for me. I was forced to wake up to my life, even though I thought I was already wide awake. It hasn't been a blessing for those who lost their lives - and the families left behind. And with that said, this is not over.
What do I truly miss? Being in Portland, I miss working at a local coffee joint. And I miss our PNW coffee culture. ☕
Yes, I think that too.
Well said.
Same about Midnight in Paris. As an introvert, I know that a lot won't change for me except getting to travel again...?
I'm hoping this year will spark the second renaissance. That's what we need.
I couldn't agree more about the difference of normal pre-covid and post-covid. We really do need to push more for sustainable living. Great video, Nate.
With this situation, I've realized that the happiest moments of my life have been when I was surrounded by meaningful people and that's why I'm feeling so emotionally unstable these days.
There is definitely going to be a big PARTY!
Nathaniel : " In the 20's women could vote"
France : "humm let's wait 25 more years"
Switzerland : "humm let's wait 70 more years "
We truly live in exciting times 🔥
Definitely digging your channel and content keep putting it out! You helped inspire me to start my channel thank you 😊
Really refreshing, thanks 💖😊
This was -as per usual- food for thought!
That “ayayay” I felt that 😂
I definitely see your point on how we humans act out in an opposing way, like with the point you made on WWI & the Spanish flu in the 1910’s and then how the rest of that decade was booming. Another example of that could be the political situation in the U.S. in that the administration that was in Washington before the current one was drastically different. I agree with your outlook & I’m also optimistic. I think the world will go back to a ‘new’ normal, a normal where the collective is hopefully more mindful of others and the planet. I also think that it will take some time for this new normal to take place, slowly but surely, and by the time it’s here we will reflect back on this year and see how the collective has changed.
👆🏼 Second this.
The video was amazing as always, but I wanna say that the thumbnail was beautiful. Great use of leading lines (perspective lines) in the garage to drive the eye to the focal point, i.e. your eye. Great stuff!
Great video!
I‘m in love with your content...🥺
Love your videos!
I've heard predictions of this as well! I know for me, at least, I've always been an introvert who stays home, but as soon as that vax is out and we have the go-ahead, I'm going to at least one party or concert a week MINIMAL. I've never craved human interaction and conversation like I do now
Most the population where I live is vaccinated now, and tbh i'm still just spending most the time inside LOL. Ive only gone to like 2 concerts/parties
This really resonated with me. I've been in NZ for the entire duration of the pandemic so far. We already saw a bit of the pendulum swing from complete lockdown to complete freedom, and there's been a lot of madness. But I'm so grateful to have been here throughout this. Surprisingly, I've travelled around my own country way more this year than any other year.
But in two months I'll be moving to Spain, which has a curfew, mandatory masks and other restrictions. It's going to be a huge shock, but I feel like I will finally understand the gravity of the situation in a way I haven't been able to here in this little corner of the world.
i love your optimism. i’ve only been hearing negatives about the future so this was incredibly refreshing. thanks nathaniel. i and i think everyone else too really needed to hear this! i really hope you’re right!
I feel the same. I cannot believe how much we took meeting up with friends and familiy, buying groceries and any fun activity WITHOUT HASSLE for granted.
Gonna appreciate it a whole lot more coming year!
Yaaaaaaassss! I can't wait!
I'm also very optimistic about the future, thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Love your channels, you remind me of a teacher I had
I love your positive outlook on the next decade , such a fresh outlook compared to most people !
I've been thinking about this a lot as well, and in my opinion it's definitely going to happen, maybe not in 2021 but in 2022 I can see some level of excitement happening
i think the party scene and also house partys are gonna be absolutely ridicolous and i am down for it :D
I think a sense of optimism is important right now. I agree there are very positive possibilities. We can learn and grow and create a better experience. I agree that we had taken so much for granted. Gratitude breeds happiness. Thank you for this thoughtful video ♥️
Love it!
Midnight in Paris also had me like that, even though it’s so fantastical 💗 and I agree about a kind of modern repeat of the roaring twenties. It happens after each great change. Think about post WW1 and Spanish flu, post Great Depression and WW2. There is a trend. Great vid as usual
Cool analogy! You may be, indeed, on to something 😉
I had the exact same thought. I hope it’s realistic and not just my current attempt to be optimistic.
Synthesis and Playing with ideas!. Good stuff
I (too) am an introvert and have really been enjoying my little world if I could just be an island and not feel sorry for all of the horrible suffering and loss. (I can't.) (But I have been humming merrily in my room a lot anyway.)
I totally feel the same way I feel like the roaring 20s will be sort of back. Honestly I feel like we’re going to be heading an overall good direction. Obviously bad things will keep coming from this, but I hope they aren’t too catastrophic
Eu AMO esse tipo de vídeo... i LOVE this kinda of videos...
I relate so much to the over romanticizing thing lol
Suppression. Such a great perspective to look at the situation that we find ourselves in. And that definitely has become apparent in my country whereby people do not want to obey the regulations put in place, as the pleasure of socializing has over weighed the possibility of getting ill. As a person who recognizes that I have more introvert traits, I never thought I would miss people as much as I do as well as seeing people's faces. But I definitely have hope!
Love this idea. It’s giving me the hope I need right about now!! One thing I’m nervous about is that my wife and I have seriously bonded through all this. We were in love before, but I don’t want to lose this slow connection we found. Quiet nights. Playing games by the fireplace. Getting eight hours of sleep each night. ... hoping to find a balance once things start to slide back into normalcy.
really interesting theory. I honestly agree that there will definitely be a surge in outings, restaurant attending, bar hopping, etc. I think you're definitely right that we will have some form of the "roaring 20's" in a way. Loved this. and love your content always!
I can only say that I feel very excited about what's coming up in the next few years ❤️ abrazos Nathan
Hey Nathaniel I'm currently watching your predictions 5 months later after you posted it and I can totally vouch for them when it comes to Turkey. We had a 17 days long "total" lockdown and after that people went pretty crazy when it comes to socializing as EVERYWHERE was packed with people like long lines for Starbucks and all restaurants hahaha People really do suppress their activities only to do them even more than they used to do :(
Already seeing the Roaring Twenties down here in Victoria, Australia, after feeling like we were in a cage. The parties are back and wilder! I’m loving it.
I think everyone gets a free pass for 3 months to go crazy once we really can....anything goes😂
Some people may hate this year but looking back at it, it has taught us more lessons then any thing. We should be grateful because many people suffered more then us and then next can also be worded. Be grateful. And merry Christmas 🎄
History student and ghost watcher here! My focus area isn't in the early 20th century, but I have learned a lot about human nature throughout my studies. Though the times have changed and our lifestyles look completely different today than they did 100 years ago, humans really haven't changed all that much. When something is taken away from us, we will find ways to bring it back in full force. In this instance, it's the regular social interactions and new/unique experiences that we've had our whole lives. So while it's difficult to predict, even for me as a historian, what specifically will happen in the future, I think once the pandemic is over and things settle down, we've got a lot to look forward to. Hopefully that'll happen sooner than later.
Love your channel! Cheers from the US 😊
I'm SO ready to go dancing at a bar in Miami. Thank you for reminding me that there are still many things to look forward to. 🎉
this is such a beautiful hope.
and scary considering climate change.
@@theartofMaggie exactly
I agree the world is in for a rebound and i think it will be tech infused, e.g. disruptions to education, medicine, retail etc. Via a blend of tech and reality. I think as algorithms get better and scary we will see more polarization politically as peoplw get fed there own biases, and finally we will see our generation, the youth, fully engage with the battle of climate change and systemic oppression. Scary but exciting times ahead. I can't wait for the moment the world rejoices again, it feels like it is currently holding its breath.
Keep up the thought provoking content mate!
I've also seen several of my favorite RUclipsrs and some other forward-thinking people make the switch to using flip phones instead of smartphones and either getting rid of social media entirely or at the minimum, changing their relationship with it. I left Instagram a few days ago and I already see positive results. There's been a resurgence in using film cameras in the past few years (which I think and hope film never goes out of style). I think this could be a "return to the roaring 20s" not just socially but also with regard to our relationship with technology and the internet which is something I'd like to see.
It's quite interesting that people live in hope the current situation is temporary and one day we can all dance together again freely...well. I personally see that past is past and we're gonno face totally different reality.
I can't wait to hug strangers again!
lmao i had to watch the beginning again i was distracted by the music and waiting to sing along to it
I totally agree that a new roaring 20s will rear its head starting next year and into the year after
one of my biggest goals/hopes in life is to sit down and have Nathaniel give me a talk about life, I would listen to and thoroughly consume every single word, without a doubt!
This year is really a reset to allot of things. In a way it forces everyone to check whats important & also look within oneself.
There's a cool video (music) on RUclips titled "feeling nostalgic for a time I never knew". Maybe consider checking it out, I feel ya man
Preach! We have rescheduled our wedding for a third time in fall next year and we were expecting a lot of people NOT to come but now after thinking about it, if everything dies down as we hope it will: Guests will be probably just be excited to travel and party again. So I guess I need to rent some more tables lol
Every time I think the next video of Nathaniel will probably throw away the highs I've gotten from his previous ones, I end up being a stronger fanatic!
what are your 2021 goals?
I agree!!! I've been using every chance I have to dress up and be as extra as I can
1900's: pandemic----->war------>economic boom
2000's: pandemic--- oh no.
I believe that ofc there will be a huge shift in the way people make money, somehow I feel like people will be leaning towards more creativity. People will value socialising for a while, but then as we tend to forget to be grateful for the smallest things, people will also forget to be grateful for socialising. Hopefully, the thing people will remember is to never take granted their health and family more after this pandemic.
"What even is normal?" it's the question that i keep asking but no answer for it
Interesting thoughts. I think you are right. Just a question, what did you mean in the end that ”normal wasnt supposed to have been?”
I wish i could meet you in one of those house parties haha
Can I just say that you’re super cool. Seriously awesome human being.
YES ANOTHER DLC WOOOOO
midnight in Paris is literally the reason I started learning French...favorite movie
i agree
That‘s exactly what I told my friends!
just watched midnight in paris a few days ago
This year was tough for everyone and i think that might change a lot of things ! we can't really predict what is going to happen in the next 10 years but i think that humanity should be more unified and we should have less hate and wickedness !
We appreciate what we once had but lost. We must seize the moment. Our focus should be on what matters most in life. This is love of family, community, and Life itself. This should be our backup plan, my friend. Thank you!
