OK Greg, how do you know it hurts to put your finger in to a moving fan?
Isn't that Jay's thing?
Some of those high power Delta fans can literally draw blood if you stick your finger in there.
@@Mr.Morden You mean cleave flesh.
I can recommend to try it... Experience it at least once... You won't regret it.... Or maybe you will...
Just tried this and it cut my finger :(
Don’t do it guys
Man, these days we need to care about our hardware more than before, because with that shortage it's pain to get anything, so, great video
Seriously. It's fallout time boys
@Mark Hammer The prices are up because of the shortage
@@kirifps shortage followed by scalping, followed by the crypto craze, which was followed by more scalping.
I don’t think that the shortage would be that bad alone.
After building pc’s for myself, family & friends for 25years years I’m still finding these “back to basics” videos great to see rather then the “best cpu” etc type videos as it encourages more people to give pc building / maintenance a go and remove the “scary” stigma for many. Great video Greg 🏆🥳🎉👍
I’ve had my gaming PC for over a year and I still get scared when a component I haven’t felt with starts not working properly or at all.
You missed one that Linus recently described - forgetting to remove the protective film from the CPU before installing the cooler!
I am thinking so hard now if i ever did that on my old pc 😂 had a 4690k the temps seemed high even on idle. Sure my pc was over 7 years old but is 50c normal with a single radiator cooler?
Found your channel recently and you are legit man, great content. I also want to say how cool it is to see someone so honest and humble, your fix or flop series is really cool. I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone not charge for replacing parts just because they make money from videos. That is highly commendable 👌 keep up the great work brother 👍
I'm only able to do it because of all of you, so thank you!
@@GregSalazar hey brother Greg stay awesome, thank you. , I just picked up the 420 liquid frozer AIO :) Ty 4 the tips always. :)
Had a cable I forgot to plug in. You showing all the plugs holding it up REALLY helped. Thanks bro.
Excellent video as usual. I like these explaining videos in particular going into details that might seem obvious, even for an enthusiast like me, i always find them interesting to watch because i learn some new little thing or a new trick that i never considered before. Thank you!
Classic Greg, super helpful and awesome as always. Keep it up!
Thanks for watching!
@@GregSalazar my ststem intergator benchamrked the cpu and it never reached 100 C, but when I run my bnechmark after recieving the PC, it reaches 100C and turns off after few seconds
Great content as always Greg, keep 'em coming
That DIY Perks mention was cool. Just hearing his channel's name makes me crave his inventions again lol.
I’m so glad this came up on my recommended so quickly 🙏🏾 thanks
Thanks for the useful information! Now I know what to check if my CPU temps ever get too high 👍
Love these videos. As someone whose been getting into pc building the more useful info the better
I can't thank you enough man. I just built my first machine and after 2 days of strenuous labor, I was getting 90+ cpu temps right after I turned it on in BIOS. I didn't have any clue what was wrong but after watching this video, I checked my setup and it turned out that I hadn't plugged on my pump cable.
Thanks once again
WOW!!! You're a life saver! I just can't believe that I solved out this problem. It was coming from the stock cooler that was slightly open from the cpu surface. Big thanks
Yes, recently started getting into pc building and came across your channel. So informative and straight forward. Love what you’re doing! Subbed 👌
Yeah same, it’s gotta be the worst time in the past decade to do so though lmao
Another tip for checking if your AIO pump is dead is that you put a load on your CPU then feel the temperature of both tubes an you should notice that one tube is hotter than the other which means the pump is in working order as the fluid is circulating the unit correctly. However If you feel that both tubes are getting equally as hot then there may be a pump problem. Thats what Ive used to determine dead AIOs in the past anyway.
thank you my friend, i have older corsair cooler but maybe too old ?
if you have more advanced motherbord with a bios that shows realtime fan speed u can also check if the pump is turning. but that is only if u have a "better" motherborad with a better bios
Hi Greg, I've been watching your videos and you've encouraged me to swap my pc case from a nzxt 501 to a silent base 802 as I upgraded to a 3080 and there's no space. Any tips or videos you can recommend to watch to help me? Could you help me? In afraid of missing a connection, like aio from the case... hope u can help. Thanks, ur videos are great. The troubleshooting ones are my favorite!
Quick question, I have the NZXT. The radiator is mounted on top, do I direct the fan to blow air into the radiator (pointing up) or blowing air away from it (pointing down)? Thanks
Very simple yet effective way of demonstrating the different thermal compound application methods, just use a transparent object to stimulate a heatsink applying pressure to the thermal compound and CPU and you can observe the way the thermal compound spreads, haven't seen that before for some reason, well done.
Greg what is that portable monitor that you use to test user's pcs
In the case of NZXT AIOs and using the CAM software, could you use the pump RPM in the cooling tab to tell whether the pump is running? 1600 rpm = pump is working 0 rpm = pump is dead
I have a question. I love rgb and i have a 12v motherboard I was wondering is there some kind of hub that can control my fans and keep the rgb lit. I tried to look but all i found was for regular fans but corsair i think has one but its not for 12v 4pin. What do you recommend?
Very informative another top class video cheers Greg 🙂
Hope you enjoy it! :-D
Love it my man
One thing that happened to me with an AIO was the pump appeared not to be working and CPU temp went to 100C just idling, but an air bubble got trapped in the pump. Shaking the radiator/pump allowed for the fluid to move once again. This happened right after I moved my PC to someone else's house.
This helped greatly; dead Corsair H150 pump from Aug 2021. Absolutely lifeless pump tubes. Is it normal to have such a brief lifespan? Had the radiator mounted on the upper-most horizontal space (i.e., directly above CPU pump). Is that improper mounting?
Hey Greg can I ask u something?
So basically over the past month or so whenever I shut down my pc , it has been making this continuous beeping sound like ( beep beep beep beep beep ) rapidly and over time it just stops. Should I be worried for my pc?
You forgot the possibility of a clog in the AIO system. Had one in my MSI form in the block that goes over the cpu. Was easy to fix but for a bit I thought the pump was dead already after only a year. Just flushed it out and gave it fresh fluid and it works fine now. Had to use some compressed air to fully remove the gunk and several days to fully remove the chunks that had formed.
I can't feel anything on the tubes of my H150i RGB Pro, but then as it's showing 45-50 degrees when gaming I also know there's nothing currently wrong.
Thanks for the vid Greg
what are good cpu temps? Idle and while gaming?
How strange. My cpu literally started overheating a couple of days ago. This is a big help thank you
I know the thermal past is good, I adjusted the voltage from auto.
I went 1.3450 on the voltage. "According to CPU World, the FX 8320 The Stock Voltage at 3.5 GHz is anywhere between 1.3375 to 1.3875v depending on the motherboard and manufacturer."
I have been wondering if the processor got old or hot too much. I used to work hard with a water cooler running 100%. then the water cooler went out. Its 7 years old.
Do they run hot if they are getting bad?
Or in the case of a Ryzen 5800X, it just runs hot as hell regardless of cooling solution because it's 8 cores packed into a single chiplet and the IHS can't properly dissipate the heat.
yeah my 5800x runs hot too
I switched to an aio water cooler and have temps under 56c. Definitely worth it
I have an aio too
I tried several AIOs... the temps still spiked into the TjMax under heavy load. I even tried undervolting it, but it became unstable. I ended up returning the 5800X and getting a 5900X which runs cooler despite having more cores.
In the NZXT Cam software you can see the pump speed so that is another quick way to check if the pump is operating. It also shows the fan speed on the radiator.
Forma Brazil, and Your Job is amazing, i am buying peaces of my PC and i am spend time seeing your vídeos, i am learning a lot. So many thanks
When I noticed my Pump had failed, I held the tubes and noticed they were both cold. When the pump is working, one tube will be noticeably warmer than the other one.
the tubes should be hot if your Pump died. Thats happed to me. I didnt connected the pump right and the tubes were HOT
Top class very informative , thanks a mill Greg , keep going ❤️❤️
Glad you liked it!
i have mini itx build cpu 50 c idle 80 - 70c when playing games 30 c room temp its not that bad right?
About the warning when your pump failed. I've seen the option to turn on a pump failure warning inside the BIOS/UEFI when the board is equipped with a pump header. When the pump is not turning for whatever reason you'll either get a message on screen or a beep code (I've seen both). It's been a thing on ASUS, MSI and GIGABYTE but I'm not sure about the rest and I'm not sure if all the boards come with it.
when should i change thermal after putting once?
So if I have an AIO pump that's failed, I'm dead in the water till I get a new one?
My favorite reason for CPU overheating is forgetting to remove the protective plastic on the cooler plate for my new CPU cooler... ask me how I know lol.
Hi, Mr. Salazar. I had aio pump failed issue previously. Didn't realized the pump was dead for 2-3 days coz I put it on 3000G for looks purposes and slight OCed - it's super low TDP chip. So didn't detect the problem since the OCed didnt increased the temp much. No problem with gaming and daily usage.
How I found out was through HWinfo data + finger sense. HWinfo shows ZERO rpm from the AIO ports. and by having a touch and focus I can feel there's no "feelin" from the AIO. LED on but there's no "motor/engine feelin" to it. I would like to suggest that using those monitoring software to check the AIO condition.
My two sen on this. Thanks
Lol never thought that oem key would be useful until I upgraded my pvc and it made me get a new one so I looked up your channel to use the link and code
Just found your channel. I am in SoFlo and moving to the Orlando area soon. I will be watching
Thanks Greg for ending my paranoia each time I launch AC Origins and my 5950x stays around 70c - 75c on an AIO.
Now I can stop obsessing about it.
Yep, perfectly fine temps once the closed loop reaches thermal equilibrium under load :-)
Man my 5800x reaches 90-91 almost anytime I game with my AIO. I'm still paranoid but from iv read on reddit it's a normal temp
@@jameshau7408 91 normal on a 5800x?? What's the tjmax on that????
@@chuchof3tt669 apparently with an entry level cooler the max is about 95. I found some thread on reddit with it which I believe my cooler would fall under. It's not a great AIO and I plan on upgrading it later on but for right now I think it will be OK.
@@jameshau7408 I just checked AMD website it lists Max Temps at 90c. I wouldn't feel comfortable with 90c to 91c or TJ Max temps running continuously under load.. It might shorten the life of your CPU.
After a solid, long lifespan I'm pretty sure my AIO is going out. My AIO has a LED in the water block that flashes red when the CPU is getting too hot (which it is doing a lot lately). Now I am thinking of going to a air cooler (not overclocked, don't need exceptional performance).
My question: Is there a separate device that I can install that will track my CPU temps and alert me if they get too high (like the led on the AIO waterblock)? I know about software like core temp, but I'd like something i can just look over and glance at in games or whatever without having to alt tab, or running something in the background.
My cpu hits 95c with the kracken m22 aio and everything seems to be working properly. The fan spins an the coolant lines feel like they are working. Could it be air trapped in the lines? Or anything eles?
what is the normal temperature for ryzen 5 5600x?
what temperature is considered overheating?
that motherboard is real nice. X58 in general while aging, is still great.
If only ms would let it run windows 11, x58 is perfectly capable.
Great video! legit and informativ :) keep going
is 87 degrees celcius max is fine? under 30mins. cinebench test?
So my cpu was running at 45 to 51c while gaming, now it's running at 85c should I re apply thermal paste on the cpu first?? Also the pc is not shutting down so I'm thinking the AIO cooler is running fine, if you have an answer that would be great
I would like to add something to checking fluid flow on an AIO. Grab the pipes one at a time. When I grabbed them both, I couldn't tell if I was feeling fluid motion, or just the general vibrations from my six case fans and the three on my GPU. When I grabbed them individually, I could distinctly tell the direction of flow on both pipes. That told me for sure that it was functioning properly.
smart, most people don’t even speak about this
riddle me this.
had a fan turn one direction didnt come to a complete stop but start turning the other direction. worked fine for a year. eventually a few weeks went by and it fixed itself. and it only happened with 1 of the 4 fans any guesses?
I built my pc 5 months ago and I'm using the stock cooler of my ryzen 5 5600g and now my pc is shutting down randomly, especially while I'm gaming. The cooler is spinning but cpu temps is around 60 to 70 degrees in bios. Should I buy a new cpu cooler?
I have the h55 AIO, and it uses the 3p plug to the motherboard. I can actually see the RPM on the bios. I wonder how that is ....
An extra tip for thermal paste application: if you're not sure your method will cover the IHS, use a spatula spreader... thing, to cover the whole IHS before you mount your cooler.
If anyone can help me determine if this is normal: when holding my AIO tubes I can feel one vibrate very clearly, while the other tube feels like nothing. Does that mean my pump is dead or is something wrong with one tube? I have an Enermax 240mm aquafusion ARGB
Hai Greg Bro, I have Built 3700X with NH D15 Cromax.black, Aida64 Stress Test 82°C to 89°C For Straight 3 Hours Run, Is that Normal Temperature or Very High..? The 3700X T. junction is 95°C Pls Tell Me Sir 🙏🙏🙏
I have an i59400f, and Intel stock cooler temps reach 95 to 100 c under stress, but when I disable Turbo Boost, they reach 65 to 70 c max. So if I get a new cooler, will that solve this problem or not?
because I don't want to disable Trubo Booste.
I have upgrade to 5900x from 3900x but the temps are more higher when I game it hits 80, 85 degree. is this normal temps?
Ich have some pretty weird sound and visual lags but my system runs fine after like a second of this lags sometimes it is hanging and I have to restart
question what are good graphic cards that are like 400 i take any graphic card that is pci-e
I was having a weird cpu temp issue on my 5900X with a 240 AIO. In every other game or test it never goes above 74C, even in Doom Eternal running at 250+ fps but on Halo Reach via Halo MCC on Game Pass I was hitting 85C locked at 120fps.
I ended up reapplying some new Thermal Grizzly High Performance past with the paddle attachment that comes with it coating the whole cpu in a thin layer of grease and remounted and even though Halo Reach for some reason still runs at higher temps than anything else it doesn't go beyond 76C and all temps seem to be 5- 10C cooler now.
In the CAM software there is a pump monitor that tells you the pump speed, so this is something to check in a NZXT AIO if the PC is overheating.
Same with ICUE for Corsair.
Hello, I recently bought a new pc with Intel i7 13700kf and CPU cooler silverstone ar12 tuf, gpu rtx 3080 to,
My question is - is my cpu cooler enough because my cpu temperature is getting up to 70 - 90 Celsius when I am playing a game like skyrim, on idle it's between 40 to 50 Celsius,
Is something wrong or is normal?
Thanks.
I have a ryzen 7 5800x and it reaches around 63 and lower is that normal? And I also have a icue capilix elite 3 fan cpu cooler
thank you!!! big help on testing my aio pump. pc had shut off on me while gaming
In the BIOS with most modern boards when you hook it up to where it says pump it can have a alarm that shows or tells you that your pump is dead or not moving the water efficiently enough again that is in the bios
hey greg my GPU not to long ago took a load on itself i was wondering of you had maybe an extra 1050 laying around hell ill even take a 750 if you have one please anything would help
My MSI motherboard shows the rpm of the pump in the bios under fan control. You can set an alarm that will pop up if the pump unexpectedly stops.
Dmed u about this on Instagram earlier thanks for this vid
Is it possible for a water cooler's water to be filled with dust? (Not the fans but the actual water)
If you feel slight vibration on the aio pipe, mounting are fine, one of the 2 pipe is really hot, pump on full blast, that means the copper fins are clogged.
Happened to my ID-Cooling aio, somehow it doesn’t covered in warranty.
Thank you for sharing.
What if one of the tubes has the fluid going and the other tube doesn't have the feeling of fluid moving theu
has anyone have suggestions for the nzxt x63 aio? their cam software keeps disconnecting for no reason , did a full windows install for my ryzen build but didnt seem to fully remove the issue
Greg my cpu remains on 96 or above on idle. fans are working and thermal paste had been reapplied. where to check the vcore?
I felt both my tubes and through one of them i felt vibration but through the other i did not, Is this supposed to happen or is this bad?
Is it possible for the cpu itself to be the problem all the fans work the fins on the radiator are clean, pump is running, and it’s got lots of thermal past yet it still runs 99 degrees Celsius and no overclock by the way
I built my first pc along with my wife and after about a year mine just started being very laggy freezing and slow when I play games and I’m unsure of what it could be I’m gonna check to see if it’s overheating but if anyone has any tips it would be much appreciated
So my situation is it’s the aoi or I need thermal paste, have gone about 4 years without reapplying thermal paste so I don’t if it could be that, don’t know much about pcs
Is only one of the tubes supposed to feelq likes it's vibrating. I always hold both tubes and I can only feel one tube moving.

Hey Greg. I was wondering if you might do a video about the best way to route fan cables? I have 5 fans plus the cpu fan and they are all plugged into the motherboard. I don’t see much I can do with them, but wondered if you had suggestions. Thanks!
Atleast for the CPU fan you can do a trick Greg usually uses, route the cable underneath the cooler, it hides the wire for a large portion of the length.
@@llamacannon1714 Yes, that’s a good idea. I have a hyper 212 so I just left the cord bundled with the twist tie, then I jammed it into the empty space in the side of the fan. It’s pretty well out of the way. The thing is, I have a white case, so I have 5 black cords all running behind the motherboard and then back out again. Not really sure there is much that can be done. Thanks for the advice 👌
Thank you. My pc Overheats on fresh startup up to 96 or sometimes 80s and it goes back to normal ( 30s) after a few restarts... usually like 2 restarts. I have the cool master 240 v2 with the 11900k cpu
I have a pc that i built and the cpu is overheating on idle reaching 89°C. I checked and the aio is working, i touched the tube and the other part is hot and the other is cool. Fan was working as well but it wasn't releasing any heat in the radiator.
my MSI MagCoreLiquid 360r with my i9 9900KF I bought 9 months ago is running at 60 degrees at iddle now idk why it was n't like this last month
For the warning of when your pump failed, have HWiNFO run at low polling rate with only couple of temps (CPU/GPU, whatever is needed to be monitors) + pump RPM. If temps stay too high for too long or if pump RPM drops to zero/goes insanely high/is null then you can run a shutdown script for the PC, as well as probs a warning message popup.
Great video!
Thanks for watching!
please give me a solution, my pc starts normally and tomorrow when i restart my pc the temperature is directly 90-100 degrees and a few minutes it immediately turns off, i have replaced a new paste but still no effect, oh yes when i turn on the pc there is a fan sound which is a bit noisy unlike usual, I use ekwb ek aio 360, please give me a solution
It was today that my CPU overheats. After my cleaning routine and change of the thermal paste when I boot the pc I saw my CPU temp running around 50-63 C° in idle and when I was running a game it was going to 80-85 sometimes 90 but I don't understand why. Hope you can reply to my comment and help me
I have a question. Is it possible that games crash to desktop if cpu overheats or is it GPU that crashes them
Thanks,Greg!!!!!!
One other thing, if it's an older system overheating and you're using a CPU fan, check the grills for dust and dirt. If there is too much dust inside of the fan grills, none of the air from the fan will make it down to actually cool the CPU.
i remember a board i picked up where the thermal sensor showed 123 degrees in the bios so basically fans just ramped up to max rpm thing was actually about to take-off
