    Hi Jason. Thanks for these videos! What a great site you have. Keep up the good work. I am a beginner, and I have found so many of the other online videos not as helpful as I need at this point in my skill level. However THE most valuable for me (since I have learned the rules of the game) is watching your playthroughs!!! Perfect way to learn (at least for me.)
    My question. I have recently joined a Backgammon Meetup group. Many were stressing that I need to purchase "precision dice" rather than the dice that came with my set. (My set is not a high end one for sure! LOL) What is your opinion and/or experience on that? (I ask because $55 for a set of 4 at Crisloid is steep, but average for what I see at other retailers for precision dice.) Thanks!

    • @blunderblots
      @blunderblots  Год назад +1

      I’m so glad you’re enjoying the channel and finding value in it! That means a lot! 😃
      I hear you on the precision dice. I finally bit the bullet and bought two pairs when I went to the Chicago tournament. I want to say they were $36 for four dice. If others are insisting on them than it’s good to have a pair at the ready. I’m sure many people wouldn’t agree but I use regular drilled dice all the time for casual games. My goal most days is to have fun, and regular dice do that for me just fine! I hope that helps a little. Cheers! 😃

    I understand that one player goes cw and other goes ccw. But who goes where? How do i know if home is on the left or on the right?

    • @blunderblots
      @blunderblots  Год назад

      Hello! Typically before the game I ask my opponent if they have a preference in direction and checker color. It's definitely beneficial to learn to play both directions, but in the beginning it's perfectly fine to pick a direction and stick to that. When we started my home board was always on the right and my wife's was always on the left. We stuck to that for several months. 😀 Does that answer your question or were you wondering how to setup the starting position?

    Good Review - After almost 6 months what do you think of the Crisloid Backgammon Set? Any regrets? Any negatives? If you had to do over would you still buy the same? Any "I wish it had's"? Thanks for any input. I'm having a hard time deciding which set to upgrade to.

    • @blunderblots
      @blunderblots  Год назад

      Hi Jeffery! Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it.
      I love it and would definitely go the same route. It's held up very well. For my budget it was exactly what I was looking for. It's definitely a big board if you're not used to larger boards, so that can take some getting used to, especially if you're on the go a lot. If you plan to do any tournaments, you'll have to get precision dice as it doesn't come with any. I got a pair of orange and white for mine. The cork surface is definitely different if you're used to playing on felt or something similar. It's just a brighter sound and the dice tend to spin a little from time to time (doesn't bother me). Reference any of my play throughs and you'll see what I mean.
      All said and done, I've met a lot of people with Crisloid boards since I've gotten mine and I haven't heard any complaints. They're well made boards in my opinion. Good luck and if you have any more questions, just let me know. I'd love to hear what you go with if you end up getting one. 😃
      Cheers!

      @@blunderblots Thanks for the quick reply. A couple more questions if you do not mind. I am assuming you used the custom board designer function on the Crisloid web site, question is the board the Tournament Attache size board? What are the dimension of the board? I could not quite make them out on the web site, I think they are approximately 15 x 20 1/4 - Closed and 30 1/4 x 20x 1/4 - Opened. Please confirm. I am also looking at the Wycliff Bros 23" board with the nickel plated checkers. Did you do any research on this board? Appreciate the insight and help

    • @blunderblots
      @blunderblots  Год назад

      @@Magyar0649 No problem! I did use the custom board designer, but I ended up going with their stock Anchor Orange board, which is a tournament attache sized. I just measured it and the dimensions given on there website are correct. Closed: 15″ × 20¾” × 3½”.....Open: 30¼” × 20¾” × 1¾”
      I haven't personally used the Wycliff board, but @Justin McKenna did a video on one. I'm not sure if that's the one you're looking at, but it seems like a nice board! I did do a little bit of research on the Wycliff, but I personally really dug the cork surface on Crisloid so that's the way I went.
      Also, when measuring the Crisloid I was reminded of the shop smell it has. Wood/glue/finish kind of a smell. It doesn't bother me, but I thought I'd mention it. It still has the smell after 6 months. As odd as it sounds, I've kind of grown fond of the smell, haha. It tells me I'm playing backgammon. I hope this helps! 😃
