    I'm a horticulturalist, and garden designer from England. I've never really followed plant youtubers before, as I have varied interests outside of plants, and sometimes it feels a little too much like work - but I accidentally came across your page, and I have to say I find it very entertaining and therapeutic to watch. I find what you have to say and your point of view very interesting, and it's always nice to see the different challenges and surprising similarities on your side of the pond.

      Joy Kelley I’ve got some and I’m water propagating some cuttings! They are lovely and totally a dream to watch grow! I’ve got the variegated and the normal types. I do find the variegated ones grow at about half the rate of the normal ones but absolutely worth it!
      I didn’t realise they were such a popular plant, I saw some pics online and fell head over heels lol

    I like your taste in houseplants. I think I want all of them. I’m just starting over after losing my previous life in an eviction. I was a regular at The Indoor Gardening Society of New York. And going to Philadelphia for the Flower Show was a yearly ritual I just had to have. I realized today how unhappy the news was making me feel. And I thought about what things make me happy. I think those are things I should put my energy into. Houseplant videos make me happy. This video was particularly satisfying. Thank you for showing me these plants. I’m going to put them on my wish list. Stay safe.

    I think turtles on a string aka peperomia prostrata, monstera adansonii, and rhaphidophora tetrasperma are all completely deserving of the hype! They are just so beautiful, especially the turtles! I also think philodendron pink princess, calathea white fusion, and stromanthe triostar completely deserve all the love they get!
    I think the most underrated plants are calathea warscewiczii and peperomia obtusifolia, their leaves are unreal, I look at and touch them and can't believe how perfect they are.

    What I like is that your plants are so different. A lot of people have a big collection of the same plants (philodendron, hoya,...). and all those plant look rather the same and that makes it a bit boring to look at. Your collection is everything but boring because of the variety of species.

    I got a string of hearts plant last year in august and I am absolutely in love - she is my favourite plant baby next to my spiderplant (more love for spiderplants please hahaha).
    Mine isn't pink, but that's okay because I like the slight purple tint of the undersides of the leaves a lot more. She is growing super fast, and I already propagated a small amount of cuttings. Can't wait to see her thrive and grow over the years :) ♥

  • @geslinam9703
    @geslinam9703 4 года назад +4

    Ah, that Hoya - I have the same one. Watch out - I believe it’s the healthiest, most robust Hoya I’ve ever owned. I grew it from a single cutting someone sent me in the mail into a true monster. I have to repot it every 2 or 3 years, the roots just start bursting through the hanging pot, and the plant becomes so heavy it actually breaks the hangers.
    I don’t give a dang what kind of plants social media says I should like, but the rosary vine is up there at the top with my favorites. The one I have is one of my oldest plants, they really are easy to care for and will tolerate tons of neglect. I have had others over the years that didn’t make it, I think they were overwatered at the places I bought them from, and already on that slippery slope to death when I brought them home. I don’t remember them ever being expensive, though. Guess when they got popular with Instagram, that drove prices up.
    My tip for plant care: more plants die of overwatering than under watering. Stick you fingers into the soil...if it feels dry an inch down, then water. If you feel any moisture at all, leave it alone, check back in a day or two. The key is to check frequently, so that the plant doesn’t sit dry for a long time, and get to know your plants, so you will be able to tell if they need water just by the look of the plant or the weight of the pot.

    honestly I think the monstera deliciosa is worth the hype, even the leaves without the fenestration! my coworker gave me a cutting and after like 3 weeks of nothing, roots exploded out of it, and I eventually planted it with no issues at all! I've had it for like 2-3 months or so, and it's already grown two new leaves, both lightly fenestrated!! It's one of my favorite plants in the house, and I have a golden pothos that grows so rapidly I've already gotten 3 huge planters full of new plants out of it, and a few more propagating in jars! I just love how sturdy it is, how fast it grows, and right now my fenestrations are only on the two new leaves, and only on the right side of those leaves, so it looks a little wonky which makes me happy(:

I can't wait for them to arrive. Thanks for your enthusiasm! I am finding I'm totally about the look of plants rather than their "rarity." I'd rather have a beautiful and full common plant than two leaves of a rare plant, I think. 😄

      I live in a tropical country maybe that's why I don't have a lot of issues with my calathea and stromanthe but yes they can be dramatic. I'm very busy with school and sometimes they tend to dry out a little bit and they will develop some burns other than that they are very beautiful plants, I want own a lot of them lol

    • @ShieniLicksOnLemons
      @ShieniLicksOnLemons 4 года назад +3

      I got a Calathea majestica white star by accident at the beginning of March, I ordered a Stromanthe sanguinea magic star but got the more expensive and prettier white star lmao, and I've watered it 3 times since getting it I think, only when the leaves have started to droop and it's still a-okay. Hasn't grown much for what I've noticed but it's been far from any windows (too many plants send help) so it has gotten the bare minimum of light to survive most likely, but it hasn't gotten any worse for wear in my care. I do mist my plants once a day to keep humidity up to control my thrips invasion (supposedly they breed worse in high humidity) so that may have helped, a lot of my plants have been thriving thanks to the daily misting which I think I'm gonna keep up even after I get rid of the pests.
      Edit: oh yeh I use tap water to water my plants, I always leave the water to sit in containers at least over night so all chlorine evaporates from the water.

    I 100% agree on the variagted plants "sometimes they just look a bit sick".
    I think they only look good when the variegation looks intentional, like the stripy patterned ine you showed.
    Rather than patchy or whole leaf variegation just looks like a disease or drying up leaves.

    Up to a month and a half ago my 2 year old calathea musaica was dying, the leaves were curling in on itself and the stems were drooping, but then I repotted it and my dad came over and cut off the dead leaves, and lo and behold now it's it's growing 14 new leaves and makes me weep with joy every time I look at it.

    It's funny that the Peru was on your list. I just found one at Walmart myself for $16.98 and felt so privileged to get it. It was the only one there and had a tag which was wrong calling it a Raindrop Peperomia but on the sticker on the pot it said Peru with another Costa Farms label stuck in the dirt that said Trending Tropicals rare plants. I knew what it was and it's the first time ever a Walmart plant made me smile. I gave my daughter a small cutting to root and where I clipped it is already growing back. Now looking for the varigated version of course.

    Your channel is so relatable. I just watched your video on plants you don't like and I couldn't agree more. I feel the same way about this video. I have all, but two of the plants in this video and im in love with them. The only one that I would add is the amydrium medium green form. I just got a cutting and it is just as beautiful as the pictures.

    Why is it people dont seem to like syngoniums? I think they are pretty. It was nice to see you excited about one.

    where i live in vancouver a lot of home gardeners have these enormous garden sales because houseplants are really popular, and a lot of people will sell huge ones (like 4x as big as yours) for like $30-40, lucky for me cause i love them haha

    I think succulents are totally worth the hype, haha. They're just so beautiful and I absolutely love mine! I have 16 plants in my room and 8 of them are succulents of varying sizes. They're easy to care for and bring me so much joy. I also LOVE my ficus bonsai and "lucky bamboo". They just make my room feel good. I could go on listing pretty much all my plants in my room (like my money trees and snake plants) but then it would just turn into a list of every plant I have. Lol

    I also got a croton Petra about a month ago, and have somehow only lost two leaves! they're super finicky from what I've learned so I'm not giving a glowing rec just yet lol but I love mine!! and I went ahead and snipped off a bit for propagation, so we'll see how that goes!

    I think i have a similar plant taste as you! I have a scindapsus treubii moonlight and i absolutely love it. I bought it without even knowing what it is called because I just loved how beautiful the leaves are. I also have a syngonium podophyllum pink.
