- Опубликовано: 21 дек 2020
- This time on the saga of building up Joe's Jeep Wrangler JKU into a monster with one ton axles... we feature a How To on installing the new Belltech Trail Performance Plus shocks!
These shocks are serious contenders for lifted Jeeps and vehicles with larger tires or added weight due to after market upgrades.
All of the details on these things can be found here:
www.belltech.com/trail-perfor...
Here's a link to the Trail Perfromance shocks (non adjustable version) that I think are an amazing upgrade for the price:
www.belltech.com/catalog/prod...
Plus after the installation in this video... I address a few of the things I got wrong in the first video of this series and give thanks to YOU the viewers for being so cool helping me learn! So stick around to the end for that segment and let me know if you guys would like to see more interaction stuff like that.

What made you to decide to go with these from 6pak? I’m looking for shocks I have MetalCloak 4 link lift. I have Falcons 3.3 not happy with them.
Just wanted to try them since meeting the Belltech engineers and really liking what they think. I love my 6pak shocks but they're not for everyone. Having some adjustability on these shocks was great and I was able to dial this rig in to perfection... to this day it's an amazing Jeep to drive. Joe takes it to Jeep jamborees all over America and drives it interstate with comfort.
@@AutoEdits appreciate your quick response. I watch all of your videos very helpful. I will have to look into these shocks. My falcons are lacking small bump compliance they are on the stiff side even on soft settings.
@@AutoEdits I decided to go with MetalCloak 6pak since I have their 4 link lift. Belltech is not responding to my questions their website seems like they only have up to 4” lift shocks anyway.
@@danb8474 I'm happy to hear you are getting 6paks... I've really liked them. And (as you know) MetalCloak is amazing on the customer service side of things. Have you checked my recent video on the rear axle install? I show the bracket to mount them and haven't cut the stock bracket yet so you can see how much more clearance they would give you if you cut the axle ruclips.net/video/0jXUqi1lcKs/видео.html
@@AutoEdits I did 😀 I noticed that thanks for pointing it out I was curious about it so I looked it up I’ve never seen one on the Jeeps.
I can really appreciate someone who not only can admit when they misspoke but better yet, they accept and learn from it.
He has a great attitude about it, comes with maturity. Great channel for sure.
This right here... thank you!
Not sure about that maturity thing... I do giggle every time I say the word "nuts" LOL
@@AutoEdits Don't forget when you say to "let your junk droop".........
It apparently doesn't take much to revert me back to 12 years old cuz I giggle every time!
Keep up the good work!
@@lwfitz6479 Love hearing that! Young at heart forever.
You are truly one of the most humble and relatable personalities on RUclips. I love channel and I watch every video. Keep them coming!
I'm not sure about that but appreciate you! What means a ton to me is that you support the other projects and videos on the channel as well! Thank you!
Dude! Been a fan of yours for a few years now. I'm so glad you signed off with a cold beer. Happy to see that you're just like us after a long day of working on your ride. Nothing better than a nice drink while reflecting on your accomplishments and planning the next steps.
Thanks dude... oh I'm just a dude... like most dudes... just enjoying a beer with you at the end!
This is what I love about this channel...constructive criticism. You can state your opinion because most folks here can differentiate opinion from fact. Just because I think dual rate sway bars are clutch doesn't mean everyone should share the same sentiment. That's exactly what makes Jeep life what it is...there's a different cup of tea on the menu to suit everyone's needs.
Thanks dude! Takes all kinds and I'm learning all the time... the key is to stay open minded and try to be receptive and understanding to others in the process.
the one thing i appreciate about you the most is you take the time to read and respond to viewer's like me and you learn as you go like i do. That has resonated with me and that is why i continue to follow and watch!
I appreciate hearing this very much... many of us are doing the best we can and just trying to enjoy the journey as best we can. I'm thankful for all of it... and your support here!
Jason, I just wanted to say how much I appreciate all your videos. I started watching you a few years ago when I got my jeep. You have made such great content, and have just been a pleasure listening to. I didn't realize you even looked at the comments, but if you read this one, I just wanted to say thank you for what you have done.
Wow, thanks! I try to read every single comment and at least hit the like or heart button and comment when I can! Thanks for being rad!
As always you do not disappoint. Whether you are building a vehicle and explaining the tips and whys of it all, or building your character as someone that can openly admit you are learning (like the rest of us).
Everyone uses their own experiences to form opinions. You accept when you may have misspoken, then to point it out so others can learn from it.
Class act! Enjoy your cold one.
Thank you for the content.
This is so great to hear... thank you! I'm glad people like you are here to share this!
Better than any Motor trend videos out there
HA! I don't think so but I sure am glad you can make it through them and take a moment to comment!
I was really shocked by this video. left me in awe.
Great video as always
I see what you did there... And I love it.... Thank you!!!
You are a class act brother Lewis. Not only do you take the time to go through questions and admit that you are wrong, you also put in the effort to edit the impacted video! Merry Christmas to everyone.
Thanks dude, I'm grateful for this whole thing and glad long haulers like you are here!
A video with some truly 'shocking' admissions.............:-) love the positivity message, as usual Pinto is the star, what a lovely dog she is.........
Thanks again!
Never seen a creator make a segment to interact with comments in the next video. Very cool. One of the best Jeeper on RUclips
Wow, thanks! I don't think it's a big deal but feels good to show personal growth and share my appreciation for people like you that choose to contribute in this process and make it better!
Every time I watch your videos I end up spending more money on my Jeep's... My Jeep's love you, my checking account does not !

I’m learning so much from the channel. I have watched the spicer ultimate 44 upgrade many times. I will eventually do the same swap and I think that I can do it myself. Thanks again for all the information.

Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks so much for taking part in this!!!
Great channel, with lots of knowledgeable followers and superb content. Great point on how projects can snowball into a monster. I used to build and install car audio systems. People would freak out when you expliand to them all the little things that add up... Great points man. Keep the videos coming!
Howdy and Welcome aboard!
I saw a few of the things you miss spoke on in that last video. No big deal.
It is pretty good of you to go back and address those things.
Keep up the good work.
I appreciate that! It's all about the way you address those things that makes such a big difference. I'm kind of like you... if I see a video with some errors, I mostly just watch and move on (no big deal) and if I feel compelled to interact... I do so in a constructive way!
Thank you so much!
Great video!!! Thanks for all the info u post, it really helps out a lot.
Glad to hear it!
Great video as always, lends itself to the "if you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all" mantra. Merry Christmas from the East coast all the way to you and your family Jason!

So much to learn and keep track of. The more you know the less you know. I like the segment at the end.
Thanks for this!
Thank your for always being positive and putting out good content.
Thank you!
Awesome video. I learn a lot watching your videos and appreciate the reviews of new products. I have ran the ProRock 60s in my 2014 JKUR for the past year without upgrading the booster. I may give it a shot after seeing this and go with the Ram booster. Better brakes are always good.
Thanks dude! Yeah, from what I've experienced it's just a much longer pedal push but they work fine once you get used to that. If it were my Jeep... I would have to fix that...LOL We'll see what Joe wants to do and do a video on that!
I have always loved your videos from the Jeep to the mustang. You are a big part of me saving up to get a jeep and build it out so I can take the family and the trail dog out.
That is awesome! Thanks so much for the support across the projects... means a lot! Pets for the dog from me!

Thanks! Will do! I try but still fail sometimes but will keep trying!
Keep up the great vids. And thanks for shout out.
Thanks... of course... I mean it... thanks for contributing!!!
A new video from AutoEdits! It's an early Christmas present! Thanks! Can't wait to see it all come together and how it performs when it is done but then it will be done and there will be less jeep videos and I dont want that. Again, such a dilemma. 🤣
Hope you and your family have a wonderful and happy Christmas .
Happy holidays! My goal is to never stop the Jeep videos... either wrenching or road tripping!
Keep up the great videos.
Thanks, will do!

Great video ❗😎👍 thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Love your videos! About that ARB jack....looks great but I cant justify the money that thing costs!
I don't blame you one bit for feeling that way. The price point is really high but what I was getting at is how much I've actually used the thing around the garage... way more than on the trail. It's proven to be almost "practical" LOL
Love that Dog! All Dogs!
Awesome video 👍 from the uk 🇬🇧
Howdy from California!
Everyone loves pinto ❤️
I glad to hear that... I sure do!
Did notice some things you spoke of on last video that sounded odd coming from you. Didn't really bug me just thought that was your opinion. Good of you to make corrections and encourage discussion on things that were "misspoke". Hope your back is getting better. Anyway, Merry Christmas and Healthy New Year to all.
Oh man, thanks so much for the well wishes on my back! I appreciate the exact sentiment you mentioned... thank you for being here and taking part!
Awesome video, I enjoy high life as well cheers!
Thanks! 🍻
End up changing mine my master cylinder when I put the 60 in the front wasn’t enough fluid supposedly that’s what they told me right now I’m getting all the parts together to do a Himie swap I think that should be your next project thanks again. It’s great that you’re positive so much negative people are just waiting for you to say something wrong and then they jump on you like you’re an idiot we all do our best thanks again Tim
You're doing a hemi swap in a california Jeep? I'm curious how that goes... if it's somewhat feasible I'd do it as well. Appreciate your thoughts on the positivity!
Pinto has a new ball now!!!
YEP! Good memory!!! LOL
Might not be your Jeep but love following along with the build.
Dude, thank so much for the support across projects!
Love the channel. Did you do episode for hydro assist on the 1 ton swap? Thanks and keep up the great videos.
I didn't... it's a very big job.
Hope you are going to be doing a review on those shocks on and off road. Will be upgrading mine soon.
Yes of course!
Where you ever able to do a review on these shocks?
Not to correct your correction but I have 2 different guys in my Jeep club with Dana Ultimate 60s who still do not have the upgraded booster and 1 who did (just sold the rig for a next build). And another with a super duty 60/14 bolt and no booster upgrade. The booster upgrade is definitely worth while for 38s+ but even with an auto you do not necessarily need it. Try a few panic stops before you spend the coin if it isn't needed.
I hear you on that. I'm not in a rush to swap it but a long spongy pedal isn't correct and wouldn't be acceptable on my rig.
Hey, just watched your video... Such a positive guy, really great videos, editing and perspective. Keep it up! PS: How are your 38's doing? Long term review? I've got a 2018 JLUR and pretty sure that's my next tire. I'd love to see a review of them, what upgrades you did or DIDN'T do in order to run them! Thanks Jason!
I added one bump stop spacer in the front and adjusted the steering lock bolts on the knuckles to give me a bit less... that's it. The tires are fantastic for what I do. Best on the road and very capable off road. The only thing I can say from seeing my friends use them is to make sure to rotate them regularly (5,000-8,000 miles) Because they are soft, they are subject to "cupping" and can induce vibrations. I haven't encountered that since I rotate them often but it's what I hear. Great performance value and I still can't believe the improvement in all around fuel mileage. I didn't think I would care about that but after a year... I really appreciate it.
Sold! Thank you for the info as always!
Those front air bumps can be adjusted.. I can't see from the video how those ones are set, but they have collars that act as shims that adjust their height depending on how much lift the vehicle has, and where you want the max compression to be. And then when the suspension decompresses (like if you are in the air) those will act as extra dampening. But as I recall, they are speed sensitive. The faster they compress, the more dampening they offer. So they "shouldn't" impact daily driving much, provided they are adjusted properly.
But great job on the swap, its a crap load of work.
These aren’t air bumps. It’s just a foam inner cartridge. I’ll see how they feel with the new setup.
@@AutoEdits The Teraflex Speed Bumps are kind of a hybrid. They are a nitrogen charged polyurethane foam. They offer the same benefits as a high end air bump from king or fox but for a lesser cost with no maintenance. But zero tune-ability.
Ah, gotcha.
Love this channel. I dont have a JK, I have an 06 LJ. I'm finding now that being 3 generations back, it's getting difficult to find suitable upgrades that dont break the bank. I really need to ditch my D30, but the Dynatrac and Currie 44's are very expensive. Someday I hope to be able to afford new axles. The rest if my LJ is pretty much done.
Yeah, the axles are a big ticket item. Dana/Spicer doesn't offer anything? Check with Fusion axle as well. I love the LJ platform...thanks for being here!
@@AutoEdits Fusion only has D60's for the TJ/LJ, MJ, XJ...
Front is $9,850.00
Wow....
Great job and video! Love the stuff you’ve done with the Jeep videos. I’m building mine and following a lot of what you do. Thanks!
Awesome! Thank you!
Awesome video Jason. Do you have any advice for which shocks I can install on a 2013 dodge durango?
Feliz Navidad 🎄
Same to you!
Well nothing Negative from Me... But I like the seeing the Belltech’s (and the Beer) Something I’ll be looking into 👍
Thanks!
Interested to see the life on those shocks. I have rancho 9000s on my JK and am looking at possible upgrades with a longer stroke to get more droop. I have already managed to knock the adjusters off both rears because they are at the bottom of the ranchos. Wondering if those wheels will get clogged up at all. Hope you do a follow up with your friend in a year or two.
I'll give updates for sure!
Wow what kind of Jack is that that’s a great idea I have a 2015 JKU I just put the 60 in the front I live here in Northern California how do you like your metal cloak socks I hear a lot of good things about them you get more traveling so I’m curious to know what you think about them and I’d like to know what kind of jacked that is that’s cool how you do that thank you Tim
The jack is ruclips.net/video/Hf6zbU-TtPA/видео.html ... expensive but super cool
I really like the six pak shocks. Wouldn't have gone with them again if I didn't legitimately like them!
Awesome shocks, might be a better alternative than the Teraflex Falcons with that big reservoir. But do you how they will perform on pavement as my JK is my daily driver?
With the adjustability... I'm confident they can be tuned to perfection!
I love your show. But you really need a different beer!
But that's the "champagne of beers" and it was on sale when I was buying butt wipes the other day!
You'll need that butt wipe if you keep drinking that pee water😁
Please tell me your thoughts on Falcon 3.2 or 3.3 shocks from Teraflex. Thank you and keep up the awesome channel.
Also, I have teraflex 4 inch springs on my 2 door jk. My ride is a bit stiff. What springs would you recommend to soften the ride a little? I'm also running dynatrac 60s front and back.
MetalCloak dual rate springs work well for me.
Okay, I'll be positive, please change out those hideous stock fenders that were hacked to death. 20k in axles deserve better coverage:)
I tease Joe about that and there is a hilarious comment on the first video saying "stock trimmed fenders and 1 ton axles... this man has priorities"
He spent a lot of time on them and I appreciate that he's proud of them... for now...LOL
First of Merry Christmas to you and your family as this is the eve of the eve of the big day, I doubt you will be shooting a video tomorrow. A Pinto showed video is a thumbs up video as far as I am concern. Since I am on the subject of Pinto, your assistance, is she named as such for the horse/ pony or the old Ford car also carrying the same name?
Merry Christmas to you too and Pinto is named for that goofy little car!
These are interesting shocks. Do you know where you can buy them? I’m not seeing anything online.
I just checked the usual spots as well and could only find the regular model and not the plus. Here's a link to the front www.belltech.com/catalog/product/view/id/23455/s/belltech-tp-plus-adjustable-shock-absorber-front-17011/
and the rear
www.belltech.com/catalog/product/view/id/23457/s/belltech-tp-plus-adjustable-shock-absorber-rear-17013/
Just wondering Jason, If you've ever installed Teraflex shocks you'll know they have you drill out the rear brackets on one side of both rear brackets for their large bolt to slid into. If I were to get these shocks how would one go about addressing the large diameter hole on the rear lower shock brackets?
It wouldn't matter, once you tighten the shock to the torque spec. It is captured in the bracket and can't move.
You could also use weld washers if it really bugs you.
You could use one of the shock mount skid plates as they usually mount through the holes.
hi , good video thenks. next time is Ram on YT:)
I hear ya!
@@AutoEdits marry christmas Jason!
@@AutoEdits aev snorkel , for your Ram
I was thinking about gling with the fox performance 2.0.. debating though 🤔
I replaced the 2.0's on this Jeep with these and I think they will be a little better due to the ability of tuning. Don't get me wrong... the Fox shocks are great (I'm a fan) but adjustability is premium to me.
@@AutoEdits right on!! My rig just rides ruff right now. Hit a bump in the road and the jeep feels like its going to fall apart haha. Im going to check theses out! Great video! Love the installs you do.
Gotta finish watching it but wanted to reply ha
LOL!
I am installing the Teraflex speed bumps right now and mine do NOT almost touch... is there a possibility that the set he has on this Jeep are intended for a taller lift?
I don't know enough about them. Do they sell different sizes?
Is there an IFS on the Gladiator? "Tailgate Takeover" does mean Beltech have a bolt on IFS solution for the JT?
I wouldn't want ifs on a gladiator and no, belltech doesn't offer that. They do offer a 4" inch lift with some amazing shocks like I installed in this video.
Hi Jason just wanted to know if you’re going to go back and add any type of anti-seize to the shock bolts, I have probably added a pound of weight to my upgrades just an anti-seize LOL
The shock bolts don't need that, especially being west coast based. Other climates might benefit from the anti-seize everything technique!
Thank you sir I live in North Georgia and here we put anti-seize on everything just like gravy loving the videos
So whats the feedback so far on the shocks? Feel like they are more adjustable than falcons.
To be honest, I don't have much experience with the falcons but I can't believe how great these shocks are and the packaging is much easier. Plus, I just got a text a few days ago from Joe about how amazing his Jeep feels fully loaded with the family on their first big road trip! These shocks have completely impressed me and I'm a shock snob for sure.
Brand new shocks r always gonna perform -real questions for bell tech how will they be in 6 months.
Not in my experience. Shocks on this top tier quality level either are right or feel completely wrong for a project. If you give a look at this video you'll see how this thing drives with them ruclips.net/video/lMjd-nrJXNY/видео.html
They are amazing... kinda wish I had them on my Jeep.
What would you recommend for a good shock for someone on a tight budget
Look at some monotubes from either MetalCloak (RockSports) or Teraflex (9550) both are very good shock and last a long time. They might be higher than some but it won't be that much more and for the longevity, they will be cheaper in the long run.
I like the recommendations from Tony, although I don't have personal experience with the teraflex but have heard good things about them. Like I mentioned in the video, I was blown away by the feel of the standard Trail performance shock from Belltech as well... this one www.belltech.com/lifting/trail-performance-shocks-and-struts I think these are about $55 each
Thank you for your help Christmas
