  • Howdy! This time on AutoEdits we take the Jeep Wrangler out for the first 4x4 off road test and tune with the new long arm MetalCloak 4.5" lock n load suspension... Spoiler Alert.... IT'S AWESOME!
    I have to admit right off the beginning to have really lost confidence after not being in the driver's seat for over a year for some more advanced wheeling so you'll be on board with me as I re-learn what this thing is capable of.
    Here's the video of the full suspension installation and there's a link to the kit in that description:

I tried the concrete ledge and couldn't do it due to the area where my front tires land was all dug out. That caused the belly to bottom out. Guess its time to upgrade to the 4.5 lift

    I'm a Metalcloak Believer. I bought a 3.5in Game Changer kit for my 2 Door and I love how it wheels. I am constantly getting comments about how my Jeep looks straight out of a magazine with the flex I am getting with it. But flex isn't the only thing I love about it. I am always amazed at how it can be that my lifted jeep constantly out performs all the trucks(solid axled mostly) I get to drive. There are a few things I'd like to improve on like a new(replacing the factory original) steering damper and linkages, ball joint eliminators, and some cosmetic stuff but with 35s and 4.10 gearing it does really well for itself. I like how I don't have to give any throttle input at all to get up just about any obstacle(My Jeep is a manual). I noticed Jason had a few times where he came close to stalling it and I wonder if he's re-geared to be running 37's? Anyways I love my MC lift, it enables so much and does so for very competitive pricing. I love Teraflex but for me, MC just has a better kit for the money.

    Great video man! I like how you showed all the action shots underneath. The MC lock and load kit is pretty cool, but it does have some shortcomings with the radius arms. For example, 10:29. You can see how much pinion change your axle went through on just that little bump. Really have to be carefull when you start doing larger obstacles, especially when they are on an incline with the radius arm setup. Hopefully one day we can get out and wheel together!

    • @AutoEdits

      Good observation, I'll be curious to see how it performs in the wild on some actual stuff. @@AutoEdits I have heard the same from fellow jeepers but have not experienced it myself. I would be curious for sure. Especially with a full load of gear. In my Jeep I carry a box with some tools and recovery gear, and 5 people (2 adults and up to 3 kids). Pretty full load when out on trails. We drive to our adventures so we would have to have good on road manors too. Looking forward to seeing what you try. Depending on how you like it we may try the same.

    Installing my 4.5” lock n load this weekend. Any issues with squat or unloading (lifting front) on uphill climbs?
    Also, did you have to delete the exhaust loop? Instructions make that seem mandatory…
    Thanks for all the vids. I’m all cloaked out here too.

      If you have the DB3 brackets in the rear... they have amazing anti-squat built in watch the beginning of this video for a good example of that ruclips.net/video/lMjd-nrJXNY/видео.html
      The Lock n Load didn't require exhaust mods on either the 2013 or 2016 I installed them on. I'm extremely happy with the setup.

    Next time mount the GoPro back where it stares at the profile of the Lock-n-Load to see how much it compresses. Very sweet set-up though. I like that you stuck with the D44 rather than 60’s at this point. I want to keep the daily driver & keep her on the lighter side.

    • @AutoEdits
      @AutoEdits  3 года назад

      I was shocked at how my friends Jeep was extremely daily driver friendly with the Dynatrac D60 I installed on it. Other than cost and weight... not sure D44 is truly the best way anymore. I'm happy because I honestly couldn't afford a full set of 60's but if you watch my last video driving Joe's jeep to northern california... you'll see how comfortable that setup can be.

    That's such a cool little rock garden to test in without having to go out in the middle of nowhere. I think a cool test would have been to "lock" the lock and load, and go up that first hill again and see if it still goes up without the lockers. I am betting the front end would have limited articulation and required you to lock the axle.

    Now that the Teraflex long arm kit is out, would you have still went with the MetalCloak kit over the Teraflex kit. I currently have a 3.5" lift on my Jeep JL and looking to go to a 4.5" lift on long arms, but can't decide on which kit would work best for my application. The springs from my current lift are sagging so I think the MetalCloak springs might be able to help with that.

    Even though the jeep articulates like a gymnast esp thru the sluice why do I feel that the Ram can do almost everything the jeep can with half the suspension travel? The main benefit to the jeep is how it’s narrower and lighter? Maybe as a guy with 2 rams I’m biased but I do want a jeep but I know I’ll end up spending so much upgrading it and idk if I can justify it yet esp when you have influences like Jason who always has the good stuff on his vehicles I couldn’t sleep at night knowing I half assed my upgrades ha!

    • @AutoEdits
      @AutoEdits  3 года назад +1

      They are distinctly different animals...lol
      The ram sounds so much better with a little hemi v8 and goes down the highway so dang good. Long drives are just flat out relaxing in the ram and a little more effort in the Jeep. But I could climb rocks like that sluice all day with confidence in the Jeep but freaking out that one of the front half shafts is about to snap in the ram the entire time... so totally different!

    Hey man kinda off topic but I got a 1972 mustang Mach 1 fastback and I’m looking at tire sizes, I’m really thinking about 15x8 mag 500s with a 255 tire up front and a 15x10 mag in back with 275. Ik that’s the similar size setup you have, do you have any problems rubbing up front on the inside?

I run a 255/40 R17 on the front now with no issue at all. Not sure how a 15" wheel would effect that since your backspace would be a little farther out... I have a 4.75 backspace or -6mm offset for reference.
