I feel so bad for Canapino. So fast during the whole week, and just like other chevy engines sadly some plenum fires.

Can someone explain what is happening in this moment? His engine did something weird? It doesn't look very dramatic from the outside.
There was some decrease in engine power (so yes, his engine did do something weird), not visually noticeable but the telemetry would have revealed it and Canapino would have felt it. That resulted in a slightly lower (but meaningful) drop in speed for the second two laps. I don't understand the engineering behind it but it's more dramatic than it looks.
Yup. The Chevy engines were pushing too much, it was common for them to misfire in the middle of the run. Could also be exhaust or turbo related.
PS: Apprently, it had to do with the plenum and gears not engaging properly at high rpms.
The drivers in the booth described it as a detonation in the intake, mostly on up/downshifts, that causes a misfire in the engine. Happened to multiple Chevy drivers today. Larson, Daly, OWard, etc.
EDIT---Found this while following up on the issue this morning..."The Chevys of Kyle Larson, Pato O’Ward, Conor Daly, Christian Rasmussen, Ed Carpenter and Agustin Canapino had plenum fires during their four-lap qualifying runs, which were hindered by the ensuing loss of momentum when drivers were forced to lift off the accelerator. Rasmussen and Canapino both failed to advance to the Fast 12 round Sunday because of their plenum events, which essentially constitute a misfire (often during downshifting) that causes a drop of engine torque. The only remedy is to lift off the accelerator to extinguish the small fire."

No entendiste nada, Canapa fué toda la semana mas rápido que pato Oward, su compa "el experto" Grosjean y estaba por clasificar P5! cuando el motor chevrolet falló.
Otros pilotos "supers" como Dixon y Castroneves parten apenas una linea adelante de Canapino. Grosjean quedó detras y tanto Ericsson como Rahal pueden quedar afuera de las 500.
Y vos en que puesto clasificarías? la ignorancia te hace decir cualquier pelotudez!!!!

@@codymoe4986 that’s my point lol. The guy commenting above calling grosjean an F1 failure. 10 podiums is a very successful career in the grand scheme of things. He’s fast but he crashes, but he’s fast.
My guess would be 75 - 80% of drivers in f1 history have never been on podium. Many guys don’t even get multiple seasons.
