Even though the video is a bit old, it helped me decide on what equipment to buy the first time around, instead of buying something that doesn't work. The air pump suction cup with a small rig arm also serves multiple purposes. Thanks, David this video really helped me.
What do you guys think? This thing solid enough to mount the A7Siii outside the van?!😬 Also, I feel like the "Watch Until The End Gang" is going to get a smile today🤣
GREAT Vid, David...THIS kind of stuff is so good....i'll bet no one else has stumbled onto this mount....the suction mounts have always gotten me a little scared.....this solves that problem....
I love these videos David! One thing I use for inside of the car shots, I use a small rig mini clamp and use a quarter 20 adapter on the go pro. The mini clamp has a rubberized inside so it doesn’t damage the things to attaches to. As I’m typing this you just started showing the magic arm haha....🤦🏽♂️
@@DavidManningvlog yeah they are so so useful. I got the snap mount because of you though! Hey since I just picked up an insta 360, is there a case or something that has the GoPro style attachment rather than just a quarter 20?
nice! I had my gopro mounted on the hood of my car *with a cheap aftermarket plastic suction cup when I drove through Red Rock Canyon outside of Vegas, it was fine, but I was also driving pretty slow. I wouldn't mount one like that for full speed driving. That unit looks much more secure for sure! nice find!
Yeah, this one I'll have no issue mounting outside my car with the GoPro and being fully confident! The last video was my A7Siii mounted to the side of my van, but I wasn't moving with it. Not sure I'll actually do a driving shot with the A7Siii mounted outside😬
I broke the arm of the Joby mount the second time I used it. It was hard to keep the arm of the Joby mount tight enough to keep it from moving in flight. I opted for RAM mounts and arms. High suction pressure can put a ripple in your car’s hood or fender.
Oh man, then you're going to love the Seasucker! They actually sell a "Camera Mount" version that comes with a RAM mount on there. Which also means that you could put this suction cup anywhere and then use your other RAM mount stuff to mount other things as well👍
@@DavidManningvlog The Seasucker is a beast for sure. I think you’re really onto something with the suction mount and arm combination. RAM arms are solid but hard to get all the angles and needed for complete flexibility. The issue for me in my jet is the windows get very cold in the fight levels so a suction mount that works well at the surface is often no bueno when the glass is -30 degrees. The Seasucker would handle that from what I am seeing.
Hey David, is the suction strong enough to deform the metal panels on the van? It kinda reminds me of a dent-puller, so I would just be worried about denting my car door.
I think what keeps that from happening is that the rim of the mount is soft, while the inner bit is firmer and flat. So as it vacuums, the cup flattens out and there's no deformation of the metal. I know the suction pullers that you're talking about and they use a similar style to the PGYTech suction, where in order to create suction, they deform the cup which pulls on the surface. This mount removes the air and flattens the mount against the surface👍
Be careful driving with a massive gopro attached to ur windshieldas it can hinder ur visibility by law.In the UK, there is a small area where you are allowed to mount a camera (behind the middle mirror on the left side so u cant see it). If u have an accident, they will void ur insurance, if police stops you they can fine you etc.
Bit late to the party, but the rule is can't encroach beyond 40mm into the sweep of the windscreen wipers. And that's as fitted when sold; you can't just put shorter wipers.
I try to to get a lot of driving footage with our VW life videos but I really don't trust those things. I bought the red and white one after you suggested it but I too only mount it inside. I do have the little safety cable that I can attach to but I don't want to lose my gear. A lot of the times I will just hold my GoPro and put it in time warp mode in that works good enough
I have, but I can't find any info on what the pull rating is. It looks like a cool mount, but I still think it would face similar issues as their single mount. The vacuum pump is so key!
where did you get that first attachment thing on the sea sucker mount? (Not the small rig you have linked) I ordered one on amazon and it did not come with it
You might've already done this. But just a suggestion, when I want to test a suction cu, I would mount something to the end of the rig of equal or greater weight than whichever camera I want to test before risking any expensive equipment. Great video I appreciate you showing this.
I use a suction cup on my windshield of my motorcycle.. I’ve been lucky and I’m probably jinxing myself but I’ve never dropped my gopro... yet... the stiff arm I think would be more stable in the wind.(60-70 Mph) ? Anyway thanks great video 👍
I use the suction mount that came with the Neewer "million and 1 pieces for $30" kit. I also tether it to the kayak, as it does sometimes fall off. But, you know what, it still works and your video didn't talk me into the $60 one, even though that might work better. And a bike to my roof? I don't think so. Just couldn't relax with that. It falls off you wreck the bike, but might also kill someone.
I use Forevercam Magnetic 360 mounts which are small and very strong on the outside of my truck, they've never moved a bit. I enjoy your videos always entertaining.
Thank you for your video. I have a textured dash and the mount I purchased won't stick at all. Have you tested any with this type of dash board cover ? Thanks
Hey Dave, you should turn the AC up, chill the inside, put the suction cup on the wind shield and then park it out in the sun, just to see if the button thingy would pop out slowly 😁
You have the insta360 one r right? You could use the same setup or do I need a different connector for the smallrig connector? The only thing I would worry about on a more expensive camera (especially a sony a7iii, a7siii, 7c or zv-1) is security... Couldn't someone snatch it while you're sitting at a light or something? Perhaps if it's closer to the windshield or on the roof that might not be so easy but on the roof you couldn't see it of course... Unless you have a sunroof and could put it right there in hands reach?
It's so strong you can't actually put the GoPro into the position you want. It's more like a restaurant that puts so much salt on your food that you can't eat it👍
Not necessary with the arm, but also the area to mount on the top is just too small for the arms tightening ring to fit in. So the front face is the only spot for the arm
Thanks for sharing!! I would love to use the SeaSucker Suction Cup outside on my sunroof for my GoPro while going through Utah and Colorado next month but, I'm afraid it could potentially crack the glass pumping it up. What's your thoughts? Thanks again David! 👍
Question for you. With putting the suction thing on the outside of your car. What do you do to help make sure that the wind doesn’t tilt your camera away from where you want it?
I am more interested in that smallrig arm! I need something just like that! Also did you ever try the GoPro suction attachment. I think it works really good, never had itfail on me... but I still tether it just in case lol
I've tried the GoPro suction cup and same issue. It's good until it's not. With all the other cups, you have no indication when they're about to fail or when they're losing suction. With this one, you see the orange well before it ever fails! I'm all in on this mount now!
Why not just tether the camera? Lots of spots to tie to on the van and in spots you cant buy a second suction mount and tether to that. Then you have zero worries.
Tethering is cool, until you have to rely on that tether and the gopro goes bouncing off your paint at 65mph😬 I would rather use a solid arm like a friction arm to tether to another suction mount. So if the main mount fails, it will still stay in place and not swing and bounce around👍
Yeah, the Snap Mounts work great on the outside of the car WITH the rubber mat bit. The rubber mat adds that extra friction. The issue with magnets is that while they have great pulling strength, they don't have great sliding strength. Meaning that they're not going to fall off your metal surface, but they may slide around on it. So the mat helps with the sliding bit!
Make a rig with a couple of them, spread the load and build in redundancy. One of my cars had a pro photo shoot and they guy was using two and three of these for the different angles
The SeaSucker is definitely overkill for this setup... meaning it's definitely going to hold. It'll hold much larger cameras with ease too. I can't vouch for the arm but can for the sucker.
Dude, do not put your big rig on that arm. Maybe the suction will hold, but I will not trust the arm with shock and vibrations. Not worth finding out. Maybe get something that weighs as much as your camera with lens and battery, and attach that first. Just in case. Love your content bro.
Damn you David! First it was the magnetic mounts. Now, I thought I was all set with my suction cup stuff. Sigh, I'll have to get this one too. DAMN YOU. :-D

Hi David. You really took risks here.. . sold me on this!! ... I totally trust this.. However..still looking for a mount to attach to the mtn bike front or rear Fork... just that most of the mounts attach too close to the spokes. ...Trying to get that shot you know.. super close to the wheel.. and terrain .. any recommendations? ..I don't see you much on mtb ... but am sure you would find a lot of new fans. LOL ( like you need more..!) .I spend more time attaching mounts than actual video cam time. Thanks for this great review.
I’m surprised you don’t just have a GoPro base stuck on your window. I use mine for “dash cam” purposes when driving and just use the slide clip to take on & off. Nice sucker though :)
Hey, David. Did you ever try a bigger camera?? Im getting to cross the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel with a gopro and came back to revisit your video from a year ago.
Probably not. It's 4.5" inches in diameter, so you would need a fairly large flat spot on your helmet to make this work. I rock stickies on my snowboard helmet and I've had two sticky mounts that have stayed on my helmet for three years no problem! Just make sure to clean your helmet well, add the sticky mount, and wait a day or two to mount your GoPro on there👍

Are you still using this suction mount? How is it?
where you buy your caps?
It's a sample for a possible future BE A GOOD HUMAN hat!👍
@@DavidManningvlog great, i like the shape of it, please, make some L/XL sizes too!!
Where did you get the gopro colour screw ?
What about the snap mount?
Yep! Now that I have it fully setup, I have the Snap Mount on the end, so I can quickly go from other mounts to the Seasucker mount! 🙌
Loved your review David. It looks like a very, very good mount that does suck. Price is not too shabby either.
Would this be good for surfing too?
They have it on their site being used a surf rack, BUT I can't imagine putting that much suction on my fiberglass surfboard deck. If I were you, I would go with the stick on GoPro mount with the secondary safety line piece gopro.com/en/us/shop/mounts-accessories/surfboard-camera-mounts/ASURF-001.html
Hi David was wondering what mount you recommend to use on the inside dash of a car? The one i have now is the pgytech but doesnt stay on the dash without falling after about 5 minutes
Are there any that you'd recommend on that type of surface?
I would mount a 360 camera on the roof just above the windshield. The different views produce cool shots.
So damn funny. Got my shirt this weekend!
Hey David, what video editing software and computer do you use?
I'm on the 16" MBP with Adobe Premiere Pro👍
@@DavidManningvlog ugh...well, I decided on the cheap way out, I'm hoping it works. Got a gen 4 iPad air (256gb) and LumaFusion...
Hahahah...David don't put the mount in your. At least spit on it!! Thanks for the info. Super helpful.
Hi David! I know you have talked about Snap Mounts in the past. Someone else has recommended those for mounting GoPro on the car exterior. What are your thoughts on Snap Mount vs suction mount for this?
The snap mounts are only magnetic and only good for maybe slow driving with it on the hood a a car
Bro I wish you had more subscribers
Hahha! Me too! I'll get there one day👊
Hilarious ending brah!! Lubetube... 😂
Do you have to worry about it warping the metal at all?
Mount this on the roof with a Insta360 X2 get some really interesting stuff for sure.
Well this is a dope idea!
What about using a Insta360 extended out some would this be strong enough ?
is this a Bigger is always better.... situation... and lube tube... lol
Hahaha! I'll for sure be trying the insta360 on this mount!
@@DavidManningvlog Perfect. I have a 3 suctions cup mount I use but I still use a tether don't trust it.
