"You want to get lower temps on your laptop and don't know how to do it? I got you fam. Here's 23 minutes of me performing open heart surgery." Really though, I'm glad this video is out there, I'm just so scared to mess up haha. Thank you!
Hey Meanpooh, actually I used your video as reference and did thermal pasting on my acer nitro a few months back, but I forgot to tell you "Thanks". Noticing that I am having 30c lower temperatures while gaming made me realize the impact of thermal pasting. Thanks a lot dude
Nice video. Excellent tips. I'll be updating the paste on my Nitro 5. Small note, when letting folks hear the fan noise at idle before or after repaste...stop the music.
Hey Meanpooh! Thank you for all your help. I had a very overheating Nitro 5 AN515-51 with i5-7300 HQ 12 GB RAM; GTX 1050 . Temps will go to ~90 C in games in low settings and GPU would go to ~75 C. I managed to: 1. undervolt to -130V, 2. Installed 16 GB Dual Channel RAM, 3. Replaced the stock thermal paste with Thermaltake TG-7 and 4. I occasionally use a cooling pad for gaming. Even lower temps can be obtained by setting maximum CPU loads at 99% to disable turbo boost (but this change is optional in the Windows OS Power settings). Now my machine runs very cool. On idle CPU is ~ 38 C and GPU is ~34 C at a room temperature of 20 C. When I run the same games on low-med settings I get CPU ~60 C and GPU ~55. I followed all your advice! One game I could not play well, was Mass Effect Andromeda, now it plays very well with FPS ~ 75.
Outfreaking-Standing! Those are some serious accomplishments. I very happy that my videos have helped you. Im sure a lot of people would love to get those numbers. Thank You👍!
Hey Meanpooh, please note somewhere, that the housing screws need to be tightened again, in the end. Otherwise the laptop will not be able to use the battery. In the beginning, I've only put the backcover back on again, but without mounting the screws, so I could easily take the cover off again, if something wouldn't work. And due to the missing screws, the laptop wouldn't start if it was not plugged to AC. When I accepted the fact that I would use my laptop only with AC cable in the future, I've put all screws back in and the battery worked. There is probably some contact between some parts that must be established for the battery to be used. And this contact seems only to be established when the screws of the back cover are fully mounted. 🙈 well, again what learned 😉 By the way: thanks for the video. Was very good.
I found this out couple days ago while replacing the matte lcd with a glossy one. I was like.. wtf there's no way i killed my battery just by unplugging it! Last ditch effort was putting the screws back in. Started right up. Guess there's an internal battery cut out switch.
Thank you so much for the help man. On your throttlestop vid i had some questions and you responded instantly... on a 1/2 year old video. Your vids have helped me so much and im finally ready for my repaste on my Nitro 5 AN515-53. This battle has gone on since june of last year, and because i discovered you, i learned what the issue was and the solution. If i could subscribe again i would. If you just so happen to see this, i just wanted to thank you for all the support. Im only in highschool with my first job so im not really in the position to spend bundles of money on gaming gear, so simple tutorials like this are always super helpful. Thanks for your help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Much respect, I appreciate it!👍Comments like yours really keep me going at times, just so you know. I try to help as many as I can. I do not have the answers all the time but Ill at least try. I'm glad the videos have helped you in the past. When you repaste know that you could void your warranty. Just take your time and don't forget to shut down the computer and unplug the power cable. Trust me, some people have tried to do this with the computer in standby mode.😧
Meanpooh, ITS FIXED!!! I cannot believe it, 84 degrees MAX in rainbow six siege. I cannot thank you enough. This has taken months for me to find out (mostly because my nitrosense wouldn’t open and I thought temps were good). But really man your tutorial was so perfect that I remembered all that by memory by the time the thermal paste came. I guess all I can say is thank you!
Well worth it! Ended up exchanging my nitro 5 for another one due to the bios keyboard bug that was driving me insane. Repasted with some TG-7 from Thermaltake and wow.....what a difference. I've done repastes plenty of times but this time it actually made a huge difference. My model is the 8300h with the 1050ti. Temps in the Witcher 3 were nearly 95*c before. Now with the fans on high it doesn't break 80*c.
keyboard backlight mode can be set in bios. that was no bug it was a bios update wich set everyones backlight behaviour to default wich is always turn off after a few minutes instead of keep on when plugged in.
I did a repaste on my acer nitro 5, the idle speed did not change but under full load on both cpu and gpu I was averaging 75 degrees. Before my re paste I was hovering around 90-96 degrees, which didn’t sit well with me. Thanks for the video! I watch this as I was doing it on my pc
Glad you succeeded. Lower temps are always a positive when working in compact areas. You should see a little performance increase during gaming as well.
People who don’t want to go and apply new thermal paste to your laptop I suggest using throttlestop and devolting your cpu to -0.1445mv and then reducing the turbo multiplier to 34 (3.4ghz turbo speed)
My nitro 5 has the i5-8300H and my multiplier is set at 23, should I leave it how it is? I tried using the Intel Extreme Tuning Utility and the Intel Turbo Boost Technology option was greyed out, so I'm assuming it doesn't want me overclocking the cpu, or maybe it doesn't come with turbo boost
does that only help with thermal throttling or power throttling? Because for me the former never occurs, however a big problem in games like R6 Siege is power limit throttling
I know it's a bit late but I just got the best solution for Acer Nitro 5 overheating :- Before repaste just try this 1.) Go to power options> advanced settings> change advanced settings> processor power management>change maximum as well as minimum processor rate of both battery as well as plugged in from 100% to 99%. 2.) Download Intel XTU and undervolt your cpu for my nitro 5 i got stable undervolt at -0.1. 🙂
Thank you for this awesome guide! I just made the repaste thanks too you! I havnt tried it out but i hope too see 10-20 C lower temps to get it away from the 90:s and hopefully away from the 80:s. Hopefully just a quieter computer as a whole! Thanks once again! :D
I would like to thank you for this tutorial. I followed your instructions using Artic MX-4 2019 instead. My CPU and GPU temps while gaming went from about 90 degrees centigrade to 63 degrees centigrade! The original thermal paste was done very poorly on both dies. It also helped to do a cleaning of the fans. There was a quarter inch of dust packed into the back vents (where the fans go into that black tape) which can only be accessed with the back plate off and fans lifted off. I think that could be done without pulling the heatsinks off the dies next time.
It’s a possibility if you screw things up and send it in for repair. There’s nothing in print stating that you can’t repaste your cpu, gpu and if you do warranty is null. I always mention that it should be done when warranty is over. They can’t really tell what you have done unless you really screw something up.
I was removing the old paste from the GPU, with a soft tissue...some IC fell off...maybe they are not tight anymore because of the overheating when those IC fell off I nearly got heart attack....maybe my GPU will not show anymore I repast it boot the laptop up and the GPU showed everything is working fine....am like WTF? After repasting I mix it with undervolting both the GPU and the CPU RESULT: GPU 69°C max temp, CPU: 78°C I hope nothing happens to my laptop because of those ICs that fell of from the GPU Thanks for the video
Wow, i've never heard of that before. Are you sure that it was integrated circuits that was broken off? Im glad that everything is working for you and temps you have are really good. Nice work!
This is really really amazing difference that I have hard time to believe. Admittedly I knew Acer Nitro 5 had one of the worst coolings in gaming laptops , but It was so cheap (In germany : I bought it last year for 750 euro, while same hardware Acer VX 15 or Lenovo Legion y720 were about 1000-1100 euro) I just bought it. I always thought repasting could help but no more then 4-5 degrees. But freaking 20-25 degrees just blows my mind. I am tech savy but still a bit afraid I may screw something up. You think repair stores would repaste if I asked them to? edit: It did lower the temperature 5 to 10 degrees under heavy load not as much as i expected, but still good. The bigger difference was the time it takes to reach that degrees, it takes quite longer to reach same max degrees with new paste. Besides all, the BIGGEST difference that makes in Acer nitro 5 is basicly lifting the laptop up from desk/ using a laptop cooler. It made like 15 degrees difference.
Paul Brandon Balicha I just did mine today and no joke it really does make a 20+ degree difference. It was also very easy to do and it was my first time ever doing something like that
I did yesterday, well i am a bit disappointed. It did not really chance the max temperatures that i get while gaming, just droped like 2-3 degrees , but the big plus is the time it takes to reach that max degrees really changed. At the same game that it reached 80 degrees (with undervolt and processer cap at %80) in 2-3 minutes, now it takes 15-20 minutes to reach 78-79 @@AN-vs5pb
Is 86 okay or should I be worried about it cuz I dont build PC i buy prebuilt so I dont really know about the temp and stuff but my computer gets loud when it gets over 80
Temperatures are difference in Laptops and Desktops. If you pc is a laptop, 80-90 degrees are quite possible and normal in lower-end laptops, due to their bad ventilation design. But if it gets to 80+ degrees in a desktop pc, I would say healing solution is really bad, and should be taken care of. Most possible problems would be bad weak cooling hardware, pc case is near a heat source, the airflow is weak do to bad placement or design of the case, or really bad applied thermal paste.@@brs6316
I have the Ryzen varient of this laptop and so far no major heating issues, though the fan can get loud under load I ain't seen it go over 80.. I may try this, only ever messed with towers in the past but wanted something I could lug about mostly for making music and occasional gaming blast. Thanks for your video.
You are welcome. Try throttlestop if you want try and lower temps without repasting. Its worth a shot. Thanks for stopping by! ruclips.net/video/LQgho8EXAM4/видео.html
Awesome video. I was able to achieve these thermals just buy undervolting my CPU and GPU upgrading my performance massively and an intense games like modern warfare it would stay around 75 Celsius
You have the best explanation videos. Everything I want to know like is this normal to have resistance or do I need to apply this much pressure, you answer. Thank you for giving me confidence and clear guidance to improving my gaming experience!
Wow, Im honored to have a reply like this. Im glad that you have been able to find it useful. When making tutorials I try to make them very accessible to someone that is very new to computers and not too complicated. Sometimes I cant but that how it goes sometimes. Thank you very much and its very appreciated!👍
@@vinayakmahadevan7416 Hey! So it dropped down to max 77C from 95C when I did the repasting, clean the fan, and undervolting. I'm getting in more RAM this week and installed a 1TB SSD into the external drive slot in Nitro 5. It works wonderfully and I'm very pleased. Mine is 2 years old now and it runs great. I am the occasional gamer though. Also, I get a lot of lag but I think it's because my internet sucks. I would definitely recommend it as it has not only provided a stepping stone into the gaming laptop world but watching videos like meanpooh have taught me a lot about computers in general. Hope this helps!
DID THE SAME USED THERMAL GRIZZLY KYRONAUT PADS/PASTE AND IT MADE SUCH A AMAZING DIFFERENCE! THE STUFF THEY USE FROM FACTORY MUST BE RUBBISH!! I WAS GETTING 4.2GHZ TURBO ON MY 10300H AND IT WOULD THROTTLE FAST UNDER LOAD BUT NOW I GOT A 20C DECREASE IN TEMP MINIMUM AND I GET 4.7 GHZ TURBO AND NO THROTTLING AT ALL
I'm watching this because I only got this laptop 3 days ago and I'm already worried about the thermal performance of this thing. The one big thing I'm worried about in this video is putting the fans/heat-pipes back after applying the new paste. Do you have any tips on how to line it up correctly?
I would suggest just holding it over the thing and laying it straight down. I think issues only happen when you start moving the heatpipes and heatsinks horizontally to the cpu/gpu surfaces and smeat thermal paste around. Idk tho i haven't done this to my laptop yet
Hey, just wanted to tell you that all laptops have an awful thermal performance, so don´t be scared, it´s normal because it´s a box with both gpu and cpu in a confined space with restricted air flow.
Since you've done if before all I can say is take your time and don't forget to unplug the battery for safety. I hope the video guides you in the right direction.
just buy a sticker online or something I think that will work I see those computer shop employees have the same sticker and I asked them what if you destroy my sticker? while he's busy putting ram on my nitro 5 he said "look here I got more of those" then showed me the same stickers but they're white for some reason and i'm still looking for the right sticker that actually look alike
Great work, I'm glad it helped. If you don't mind me asking. Which method did you use with the thermal paste. spreading, line, X, or ball. I believe it will help some of the users who may be wanting to try it.
@@Meanpooh of course ball, I know there is a long running argument on whats the best method but for my sanity I use what I know what works for me! Thanks again!!
I did this to My Lenovo Legion y530 And undervolted the cpu and gpu. Added 32 GB Of optane memory. Repasted it. Now The heat is at 47C On full load. Thanks bro.
I have this same laptop. Thanks for helping me clean my laptop.I was scared as hell that i will break my laptop(I am 14).If i broke it then it would have been it for me. My father do not give time to me so i decided i will clean it myself or break my laptop. My laptop was fairly old. The trackpad went crazy whenever i used it on the screen. Windows felt like it was running on 4 fps and it seriously hurt my soul to use my laptop. After a scary surgery i managed to clean the heatsink and fan completely.Dust was so thick couldnt see through the heatsink or the fan. After removing the dust my temps went from 100 degrees idle to 65 degree on stress.(idk why my temps are so low didn’t repaste my 2 year old lappy)
Awesome story and congratulations, I'm glad I could help. Sometimes parents don't have a lot of time because of work obligations or some other important task but they will eventually get to it. I commend you for taking it upon yourself and having the courage to dismantle and fix your machine. That's a life skill that will only get better and you'll never forget, possibly saving you money in the future. Dust is very dangerous to a laptop as it impedes ventilation for cooling. Great work my man👍
@@Meanpooh Thanks you very much!!! I am glad my laptop works very fine. I like electronics and i am quite knowledgeable of them as i see every big tech channel and i suspected it was dust ruining my laptop. Anyways i wanted to ask something..During the "Surgery" I peeled of the warranty sticker.Should i have claimed the warranty (idk how warranty works) and its not like i could have claimed it because of my dad not showing any interest.I am just curious.
0@@LeoLeo-tk3wi yeah i am sure. I mean windows running at what it seems like 4 frames per second and my cursor(trackpad) not responding and my laptop feeling like it will catch fire. The highest i have got on msi afterburner is 96 degree. It was so hot that nitro sense didn't show temps and was stuck.
Thanks a TON man, you have helped ALOT. God bless you. Just had a question that how to clean off the dust and bunny hairs around the fans and heat sink and also which software do you use to monitor in-game thermals(top left).
Try to pull off or vaccum the large pieces of debris from the outside of the housing. If you have the case removed, use canned air for electronics and make sure to hold the can upright when using. If there is hard debis on the fan, use a soft tooth bruch to remove it, gently.

I repasted my acer nitro 5 with arctic mx-4 and the temps did not change. they were at 85-95C when gaming. i also cleaned out the fans. i don't think i used too much paste or too little
hey i decided that im gonna try this now. But i didnt see in the video where you repasted the gpu, i only saw the cpu (sorry im pretty new at this). Also i saw that you wiped off the two squares where the heatsink was, do you also wipe off the two processors?
Thanks for this Video Tutorial. Is the Grizzly Kryonaut conductive of electricity? I have some Noctua Thermal paste left from my desktop, will it perform well as a replacement?
No, it is not conductive. I have never used Noctua but from what I have read, it varies a few degrees from the Kryonaut. Thank You, glad the video helped.
When you clean off the thermal paste with the paper towel, do you add any alcohol to it or do you just rub it off with a completely dry paper towel? (Noob here if you haven't noticed)
I just rub it off. If any is stubborn you can use a small amount of alcohol to soften a bit. Do not use water or polish remover. Sometimes if the paste is old it will be hard and may take a few passes to get off. Welcome to the channel.
I did everything you did in ur video and even bought the same hard drive and formated it like you did but when I go to my storage it's still the same 250GB how do I use the hard drive space?
I have literally done everything right. Just thermal repasted and was excited to see a 20 cpu temperature decrease. Opened up nitrosense high performance(so excited) opened up apex and got into a game. Hmm, what is that loud fan? I alt tab to Nitrosense and voila 95 celsius. On Balance its like 77. I used arctic mx 4 2019 edition. Did I apply too much paste? Did blowing air(mouth) into the fans to clean them damage it? they were pretty dusty. I would really appreciate a reply. Should I do it again?
Did you make sure all the screws were tightened down? If you are worried about too much or too little thermal grease, you could always spread a thin layer on the heatsink, GPU and CPU.
@@Meanpooh what do you mean on the heatsink? I only spread it on the cpu and gpu shown in the video. The two rectangles basically. Yes the screws are tight. Someone suggested I spread the paste with a card. Should I? And thank you for replying btw
Hi...great video. After watching this, I did mine i7 8750h + gtx 1050 with noctua ht1. Now the temp when idle is cpu around 42 and gpu around 36. When gaming (warframe) cpu around 76 with max 86 on average and reaching 90 sometimes. Gpu around 55 with max 65 on average and reaching 70 sometimes. Is it ok? I've noticed i put less paste than you did so thinking to redone it again if I didn't do it properly.
Congratulations!!! The temps you posted look good. Looks like you are all set. If you think those temps are high you can try undervolting. It’s a little more work but if you are satisfied, there’s no need to lower any further. Again, great work!
Hi! What kind of thermal paste would you recommend? I have heating issue, my laptop was bought about 1 year ago, i5 9300H seems to have 90-93 in GTA 5, so i am very worried, i think i should replace thermal paste. I am confused that which thermal paste would be the best?
I always use the Thermal Grizzly brand. I've had no issues. If you repaste, you should undervolt the machine as well. 93C won't kill your machine but will make it throttle.
Hey, If you still reading this, I appreciate it So... I'm planning to buy 1 8gb ram stick to make it 16gb ram at the same time replacing thermal paste. But the problem is that I don't really have a good thermal paste for it, i only have thermal paste design for a normal laptop but not for the gaming laptop. Is that fine using that? If not, I'll just spend for Kryonaut Grizzly Thermal Paste
Hi there! What kind of screwdriver do you use for the heatsink? Im having problems with my laptop. Its the same model as yours, but the those screws in the heatsink are so hard to remove, i cant even turn the screws :(
Hey Meanpooh, it's me again. I have a quest to make the Acer Nitro 5 better. This time it's airflow. The thermals are pretty bad on the laptop (without the cooler) and I was thinking you might be able to make a video about drilling holes in the laptop's case or just explaining it to me if it's possible, or maybe it's possible to change the laptop's case to a better one? Video or an explanation would do great. Thanks.
I've got this same model. I haven't undervolted it, but I did repaste. Before the repaste the idle temp (around 10% cpu usage) was 45c but it would get to 95c+ under full load. After the repaste it idles at around 45c-47c and only goes up to 74c under full load over extended periods of time. I'm definitely happy with the temp under load, but honestly I'm confused as to why idle temp stayed the same. What kind of idle temps are you getting? Do you think it's okay for the cpu to have such a high idle temp?
Im currently idling at 40-41C. Your room temp can have an affect on your total temp including idle. The cooler the air the lower the temp. Depending on the game, my CPU temps will get up to 80 but not like it use to.
because of both pipes go next to each other, the laptop has a huge cooling problem. When i am doing cpu benchmarks that I absolutely do not use gpu, still the gpu temperatures rise too, because of cooling pipes are next to each other. When you use only gpu or only cpu programs, generally the pc runs quite ok temperature wise, but when you use both cpu and gpu even the little things push it to 70+. Btw as OP said, for me sitting next to heater at home makes like 5-6 degree difference at idle.
No. They're quite ineffective at removing dust from laptops and they can also cause a build-up of static electricity. Try compressed air that is made for electronics.
My predator helios 300 i5 8300h had a temperature difference of 30 degrees after repasting with arctic mx 4.. 95 degrees Celsius to 60 degrees at max load (this was even when undervolting to -150mv and underclocking boost to 3.2gh). Now after repasting it can go to 3.9ghz all cores and max temp is 80 degrees Celsius at 100% cpu load.
Just bought that laptop and Im planning to replace thermal compound with liquid metal :) Shame there is no place for water cooling like I did in my ROG gl502vs ... But, we'll see
wow thats a brilliant tutorial man. i just bought the i5 1100H version of this laptop im really loving it but from what ive been reading it cant be undervolted any longer
@@Meanpooh well i just updated the bios to latest which fixes brightness and color issues but windows failed to start i had blue screen with errors and had to recover windows back to the beginning and reinstall everything so i dont think ill attempt any other bios stuff.
It may take years before your stock temps return in which case it may be time to change the thermal paste. Check my temps out on a few of my videos. Most not even undervolted.
Hey Meanpooh, I am planning on re-pasting my Acer nitro 5 (RTX 2060 model). But I'm confused about what thermal paste to choose from. will i be okay in terms of longevity when using the kryonaut because i have seen videos and read forums saying that because the grizzly paste is not very thick it smudges out from between the die and the heatsink, and results in overheating again after a few months. Did this happen to you as well? and if it did, which paste did you use? I am thinking of choosing between MX-4, MX-5 and the kryonaut. But i don't want to ever open my laptop again for repasting. So... Any advice?
Never had those problems. The only brand I use is Thermal Grizzly as I've had good results with their products. There really no time limit on when to change. You have to monitor your temps. If they start going up then it's time to repaste. MX.. thermal should be fine to use. If you keep your machine longer than 3 years, Im sure youll open it up again.
@@Meanpooh Thank you soo much for the reply. I still have my doubts regarding thermal grizzly (durability not performance), so I'm just gonna stick with the MX-5 for now.
Hi just wanted to ask, is it necessary to wear a rubber glove while doing a thermal repaste? And to clear the thermal paste using tissue, does the tissue need to be wet or a dry one? Since if you use an alcohol you might put it on your tissue, so i guess maybe i need to use a wet tissue to clear the thermal paste but still, its better to ask than regret later
You don't have to wear them. I wear glove for eliminating the possibility of static. The other is to keep my hands clean and not leave oils on components if I touch them. Tissue is dry when removing. I use alcohol on the qtip to fine clean it.
Is it better to use a lot of paste? I’ve seen some people say only a thin layer but people seem to get the best results from using quite a lot of paste
Meanpooh, i repasted my nitro 5 with thermal grizzily too. When I do stress testing, it shows " Power Limit Throttling" as YES and Temperature reaches around 82 degrees. Is that okay?
When you stress the CPU, you are not putting any load or stress on the GPU. Gaming is doing both, driving up the power requirements for them to function. Most likely you are maxing out the maximum wattage the brick can handle. There is nothing you can do beyond seeing if there is a higher wattage brick that you can get that will work with your laptop. I do not know of any other brick for the system. 82 is pretty decent especially under load for a laptop. If it works for you then congratulations. 👍
I know what you mean I did mine and it made the temperatures worse I was getting about 74 now it's gone up to 84 on the GPU i was getting 55 now I'm getting 61
@@sagniksarkar2471 yes I know I don't think the paste I got was genuine I bought some more and make sure it's right stuff but I haven't given it a go. yet.
Hi do you still own the laptop? if so can you check on what thickness of thermal pads are on the vrms? Mine came with pink thick paste and accidentally removed it. Thank You!
Is it okay to repaste my Nitro 7 which is 5 months old? The max temperatures are 91 to 93 degrees. I already undervolted my cpu and reduced the clock to 34 on all cores and i decreased the turbo settings. I also undervolted and underclocked my gpu. In Throttlestop and Intel XTU benchmarks the temperatures were okay with a max temp of 72 degrees. But when i play games such as Call of Duty Warzone, Need for Speed Heat, NBA 2k20, and rendering in Lumion 10 the temps goes up to 93 degrees.
My Acer Nitro 5 Old Model with GTX 1060 and a i7 8750 H is very overheading when i play warzone on the lowest settings my gpu is always on 90 c and my cpu on 97 c i have the laptop for almost 3 years and would like to know if i have to repaste it.
Going to try this out in a week, hopefully everything works out! First time repasting, I've only opened my laptop once before to put in a M.2 SSD and that went well, thanks a lot for the tutorial! I'll make sure to post again after I've done the repaste. In case I mess anything up, what's the worst that can happen and can it be fixed ?
The worse is frying your CPU because the grease is electrically conductive. Most are not so you should be ok. Another thing that could go wrong would be not putting enough grease on the CPU, GPU. It can make temperatures a little high. Putting too much on is better than not enough but don't make it obvious if you know what I mean. All can be fixed except for the first one. Just remove the paste and start again especially if your temps are higher than before. Take your time and you should be alright.
@@Meanpooh Thanks for the information! I also can't decide if I should use the pea size method or a spread with the spatula included. The pea size seems safer, and It's probably what I will end up going with. I'm just curious to know if there would be a significant difference between the two methods, or if one is better than the other. Thanks for the quick response!
Hey, I've seen some tutorials which recommend pushing down on the heatsink at the GPU and CPU dies to spread the thermal paste over them when reassembling, just curious to know why you advised against it beacuse I don't want to mess up my repaste. Thanks for the good work bro!
The screws do all the work. Just criss cross and be done with it. You'll have a nice spread without worrying about compression points pulling themselves apart. Heatsinks need to be level and flat, without bends and slight curves.
Have u ever disable turbo boost for this laptop I tried literally everything to improve this laptop, except for changing the paste Add ram Add ssd Undervolt - 160 Yet things still kinda pointless until I disabled the turbo boost, the Temps drops about 20 c but now it has a random performance, high and low What do you thing about this? Should I enable it again and apply new paste instead? Thx
Yes, i've tried disabling turbo boost. Temps went down and performance as well. A good undervolt with repaste works wonders on most games. Is your undervolt stable or is that just one your satisfied with?
@@Meanpooh yup I agree with you performance goes down as well, well I literally just changed my paste and actually it's quite straight forward I ran some benchmarks from Gtav and shadow and the tomb raider, just with the paste alone nothing about undervolt or boost, and it works. Temp goes down about 10'c As for the undervolt well it wasn't stable at that value, but changed to - 140 now, btw I hv different cpu which is i7 8750h and gtx 1060 . Btw thank you for this video, I followed it step by step and it works like wonder, 👍🏾
Congrats! I was wondering about that undervolt that’s why I asked about it. Don forget to test it in your favorite games. One more thing, some games allow you to undervolt lower without crashing. I use and adjust my undervolts quite frequently.
Hello, thanks for the video but I have a problem. I used thermal grizzly kryanout and I believe I did everything right but still I am getting 95 degrees during my gameplays. Before I was getting 99 degrees so what can be the problem? My nitro 5 is already 2 years old. I'll be glad if you can help me through.
I repasted my GPU and CPU (although i believe i used slightly less paste than you did) and im noticing temps of up to 86°C when playing games like Rainbow Six Siege and I can feel the heat radiating through the WASD keys. I used Kryonaut Ultra High Performance Thermal Grease. Im going to repaste again now but is there something that I possibly could have done wrong? I play in an airconditioned apartment and the laptop is also on a cooling pad. Thanks for any help
What method did you use? Pea, line, X etc? On my RB6 video, I was getting those temps before the repaste. Have you tried other games? Did you notice a temp drop with those? This is strange. You are the 3rd person in the last 2 days that has had this problem.
@@Meanpooh I played Minecraft with shaders, IL2 Sturmovik: BoS and Squad and got to similar temps of mid 80's. I used the method I saw on a different video of the same laptop with a bb sized paste on the GPU and a horizontal line on the CPU. I just repasted it with the amount you applied in your video and the ETU stress test for 5 minutes gave a max temp of 67°C. I played Rainbow Six for 15 minutes and got a max temp of 79°C. This was all with CoolBoost on. Im not sure if the paste application was at fault previously, it is possible that I was not careful enough while reassembing the heatsink and got an uneven distribution of the paste, not sure. I think im going to undervolt the CPU now however, since I prefer the cooler temps. I will follow your tips on that as well, thanks for the help.
it looks like they used WAY too much paste from the factory. I don't think I've ever seen factory applied paste squished out all over the sides of the heat spreaders like that. Usually the factory paste doesn't even reach the edges of the heat spreaders. Edit: Looks like you used too much as well. The "pea sized drop" is the amount needed for full sized desktop CPU and GPUs. That drop you put on yours looks to be about 5x too much.
I repasted my Acer Nitro 5 with Kryonaut, Im having like 80c before pasting and after pasting still having the same heat in my laptop, im nervous and i little more than it should be, or should i just repaste it again?
Remove all screws and detach any cables. There are many ways to add thermal compound. I use the pea method which works. You can spread it but you may introduce air bubbles.
Well i bought one of those and got disappointed testing it. Stresstest of GPU&CPU showed the problem: CPU clock went down to 900-1000mhz after a minute. This wont be enough for any 3d game. Flashing newest BIOS does not help too. If I open the machine and replace the cooling pase wouldn't it result in a Warranty void?
it's always so weird how much some seem to get out of repastes. i just did mine and tomb raider still peaks to 94 every once in a while and hangs around the 80's most of the time. average frames do feel up a bit, but temps aren't all that much different. i'm on the 8300h/gtx1060 variant though.
@@Meanpooh yeah, i'm experimenting with that and while that notably reduces temps, it also introduces framedrops and stutter. -50 to -60mv seems to be the area where frames stay mostly the same with temps being just a nick lower than before. i'll take it, but i guess this just doesn't work equally well for all systems.
I think i have an issue with the fans and would like to hear your opinion. So i have the same laptop, got the repasting done from acer centre, BUT as we can see the two fans vent out air side by side. But when my fans are at max RPM ( gaming), I Observe that only one of the fans is throwing out a lot of hot air, whereas the other fan throws a negligible amount. So do i have to replace/repair my fan? And I think its an issue because my GPU stays around 70 - 80 degrees max while CPU keeps jumping to 95- 97 degrees.
Its normal. The problem is the thermal paster from Acer is no good. If you repaste it will help lower by at least 4-5 degrees or more and then you will have to undervolt to bring it down more. The thermal design is bad as well. The fans will spend faster depending on the temp of the processor.
@@okazaki3597 If there is nothing blocking the vent exhaust areas, I suppose you could have a problem. If you sent it to Acer for a repaste it would be negligible for them not to test that particular piece of hardware. I would initiate a chat on Acer.com to see if they can rectify the problem. I do have to say that your temps are pretty close to stock on the Nitro 5 for that model.
@@Meanpooh I checked with a friend, he has a predator helios 300,it has same fan setup as my nitro, hot air coming out from both the vents. Temps may be in the stock range but they are higher than what they used to be and cause lag. I have initiated a chat in acer as of now. Thank you for your response!

Thank You👍!
@@Meanpooh You are welcome!
Holy cow that's a big difference. I suspect the thermal paste application was messy from the factory. Good thing you redid it!
🙈 well, again what learned 😉
By the way: thanks for the video.
If you just so happen to see this, i just wanted to thank you for all the support.
@@dylanpudlak7745 Congratulations my Brother!👍So what was the problem? Thermal grease?
Meanpooh, you guessed it. Way too much and it was dried up
@@dylanpudlak7745 All I can say is great work my friend! Getting a gaming PC back to working order is almost as important as breathing.😃
I agree, many repastes done(mostly on desktops) but this one actually made a difference that you can see. Glad it worked for you as well!
keyboard backlight mode can be set in bios. that was no bug it was a bios update wich set everyones backlight behaviour to default wich is always turn off after a few minutes instead of keep on when plugged in.
Good stuff.
It helps with Thermal. You could try to lower your texture quality. Most of the time lowering graphics settings help.
Is it work?
That is insane dude! Very well done =)
Thank you very much!
Excellent video, keep up the good work! Just recently repasted my CPU/GPU, very helpful video!

I know it's a bit late but I just got the best solution for Acer Nitro 5 overheating :-
Before repaste just try this
1.) Go to power options> advanced settings> change advanced settings> processor power management>change maximum as well as minimum processor rate of both battery as well as plugged in from 100% to 99%.
Alright my Man, glad to be of service! Also congrats on a job well done.
You are welcome! That is an awesome temp decrease. Your machine should run a lot better since it can pretty much "Breathe" again. Congratulations!
Lost the Warranty
It’s a possibility if you screw things up and send it in for repair. There’s nothing in print stating that you can’t repaste your cpu, gpu and if you do warranty is null. I always mention that it should be done when warranty is over. They can’t really tell what you have done unless you really screw something up.
Small tip, if you are benchmarking temps, at least try to re-enact the same frames so that there is a degree of consistency.
Nice vid over-all.
After repasting I mix it with undervolting both the GPU and the CPU
RESULT: GPU 69°C max temp, CPU: 78°C
I hope nothing happens to my laptop because of those ICs that fell of from the GPU
Thanks for the video

Any update?

Try to pull off or vaccum the large pieces of debris from the outside of the housing. If you have the case removed, use canned air for electronics and make sure to hold the can upright when using. If there is hard debis on the fan, use a soft tooth bruch to remove it, gently.

hey i decided that im gonna try this now. But i didnt see in the video where you repasted the gpu, i only saw the cpu (sorry im pretty new at this). Also i saw that you wiped off the two squares where the heatsink was, do you also wipe off the two processors?
Yes and welcome to the channel. If it works for you check out the tutorial to have the Undervolt apply at login.
Meanpooh thanks for the quick response 🖒
Hi...what software are you using to monitor the temp?

Nice video, i just have a question, why the gpu temperature increased after repasting? Thanks!

Hey, If you still reading this, I appreciate it
So...
You're welcome!
Hi there! What kind of screwdriver do you use for the heatsink? Im having problems with my laptop. Its the same model as yours, but the those screws in the heatsink are so hard to remove, i cant even turn the screws :(
Its just a regular precision driver. Cost $3 for the set.
Thanks.
Will arctic Mx-4 work instead of the thermal grease or do
I have to use the on you are using in the video specifically?
Yes, it will work.
Meanpooh alright thank you
@@neb.7210 No problem.
If you want even better performance, either use some old books or invest in a laptop stand with holes at the bottom to improve airflow
exactly what i’ve been doing
Will it be a good idea to use a vacuum to suck the dust out?
Great work, IMO, repasting is the best solution when trying to lower temperatures.
@@Meanpooh i agree. I feel every new gaming laptop buyer must repaste it as soon as possible because of the difference it makes.
True. I’ll be doing this soon as my new machine will be arriving today. Since it’s thicker I hope the thermals are somewhat under control.
Just bought that laptop and Im planning to replace thermal compound with liquid metal :) Shame there is no place for water cooling like I did in my ROG gl502vs ... But, we'll see

How long do you think it will maintain those temperatures before back to normal
@@Meanpooh which means that i need to make sure the cpu and gpu dried up before putting the paste right?
Yes.

Hey. I have an Acer nitro 5 with i7 7th gen and gtx 1050 2gb vram. Can I repasted it with Corsair tm30 (silver). Also how much, pea size? Or what.
Yes you can. A pea size amount is just fine. There's also the "X" method and the "line" method.
Is it better to use a lot of paste? I’ve seen some people say only a thin layer but people seem to get the best results from using quite a lot of paste
Thin enough to where you can't see the processor color.

Hi do you still own the laptop? if so can you check on what thickness of thermal pads are on the vrms? Mine came with pink thick paste and accidentally removed it. Thank You!
No, I don't.
I just put furniture stops on the bottom of the laptop, raised it about an inch or so. Doesn't go above 85 Celsius
Definitely helps with airflow. I use to do it a while back. Also kept a small fan on my desk.
I'm planning to do a repaste too very soon, and I'm just wondering; should I spread the paste with the included spatula?
You can if you don't trust the pea size.
@@Meanpooh Thank you! I've heard that spreading can create air pockets tho?
Is it okay to repaste my Nitro 7 which is 5 months old? The max temperatures are 91 to 93 degrees. I already undervolted my cpu and reduced the clock to 34 on all cores and i decreased the turbo settings. I also undervolted and underclocked my gpu. In Throttlestop and Intel XTU benchmarks the temperatures were okay with a max temp of 72 degrees. But when i play games such as Call of Duty Warzone, Need for Speed Heat, NBA 2k20, and rendering in Lumion 10 the temps goes up to 93 degrees.
Finally fix high temperature cpu
Its a good start. Acer needs to listen to their community.
how is the thermal paste holding up now? the thermal paste you posted on amazon has had some reviews saying that it was fake.
Fake. It’s doing quite well. I just bought a larger tube a month or so back. Maybe they didn’t know how to apply it.
My Acer Nitro 5 Old Model with GTX 1060 and a i7 8750 H is very overheading when i play warzone on the lowest settings my gpu is always on 90 c and my cpu on 97 c i have the laptop for almost 3 years and would like to know if i have to repaste it.
Very much so.
Thanks for the quick response!

dont let your fans spin when cleaning them with air, make sure they dont spin because it can cause damage to the fans
Great vid. I have a question tho, so I did everything that you did on the vid but my temps only decreased by about 5 degrees. Is this normal?
Yes and sometimes it will lower more, just depending on what paste you use. You can also combine it with an undervolt and or laptop fan cooler.

Yes, i've tried disabling turbo boost. Temps went down and performance as well. A good undervolt with repaste works wonders on most games. Is your undervolt stable or is that just one your satisfied with?
@@Meanpooh yup I agree with you performance goes down as well, well I literally just changed my paste and actually it's quite straight forward

Before I was getting 99 degrees so what can be the problem? My nitro 5 is already 2 years old. I'll be glad if you can help me through.
It could be a ventilation problem. Have you tried cleaning your fans? What are you idle temps?

Seems like its working a bit better. If you undervolt, use Throttlestop.
it looks like they used WAY too much paste from the factory.
It was enough. The improvements were stellar. I can't complain about it. Very happy with the results.
I agree. He's using way too much paste. The single application he used on the gpu would suffice for both the dies..

Its normal. The problem is the thermal paster from Acer is no good. If you repaste it will help lower by at least 4-5 degrees or more and then you will have to undervolt to bring it down more. The thermal design is bad as well. The fans will spend faster depending on the temp of the processor.
