I really admire your confidence when replacing that chip set.
Made bga soldering look easy. First time I see someone doing it at the manual station, standing ovation.
did this for years i even soldered chipset on a camping gas stove
@@robbirobson7330
it really makes the job apparently easier, because usually you have all the preparation and you're already there and you're afraid of going wrong.
@@evandrocarlos1509 i know i bought a bga station after that it increased the success rate a lot. i fixed a lot of hp laptops back in the day with failed nvidia chip.
I just love the way you work with explanation sir❤
If you disconnect the screen from the motherboard the HDMI output will work before Windows loads. Well done Sorin this is a harder than it looks. Biggest challenge is getting a working chip.
Sorin use his 6th sense when he suddenly put more flux and immediately the chipset start moving perfectly.
Very experienced, respect 👍👍👍
Hello Sorin, it's an excellent job, without having a reballing machine for this and doing it like you and that it turns out perfect, you're a great professional. Thank you very much for teaching us.
Amazing work. Nothing short of amazing. People who are saying this was luck must have not see you doing it the first time. TWICE. I may never be able to do that. Well done!
A successful soldering. Thank you teacher.
Nice work sorin the hard part was getting a working chipset 👍 wow
You are a magician, sorin!
Thanks for sharing sorin❤..not always easy replacing pch chipset😅💯bt always you make it...hope to see more chipsets replacements🙏
wow. Nice job Sorin!
Very good, Great ability to change the chip!
Job well done and thank you for sharing.
you did amazing job , but my concern is that if you blowing air in so tight zone you can bend the board and after a while the balls between chip and board to unsoldering.
Sunt si eu tot roman, si te salut si mult respect pt ceea ce faci! Esti mentorul meu!
Excellent work Sorin! A human BGA machine 😀
شكرا
I will try this tomorrow's it looks so easy
Awesome job 👏 👍
On some laptops it may be possible to use the hdmi as the main screen (incl. bios etc) if u disconnect the internal screen connector before starting up. 😃
Just closing lid is usually enought, my tuf A15 has a faulty screen but can run 2 2k monitors trough HDMI and USB-C Dp, the panda brand panels are complete crap anyway. Keyboards and Mouses are cheap.
Yeah this worked on my msi gf63 laptop when the screen was broken. Got into bios and everything through HDMI.
Exactly ! disconnected is almost always a certainty 😊... This is the first I've heard of a closed lid... thanks for the tip😄
You sir are the king
Good job mate 👍
Great job
Seeing all those chipset balls is intimidating. But you just forge ahead and complete the process. Do the work and learn!
Fantastic!!.
Amazing.....! I want to try that.
I can’t believe how lucky you are!!! The shift pch did when it positioned itself shows me it was way off it desired position… judging by the 0.3mm balls on pch, it nearly impossible to not have solder bridges underneath it… lucky lucky lucky!
I was thinking the same thing super duper lucky with how much it traveled to align
It sat down not shifted. No luck here just experience.
Hahahahaha
🤦
He blew up the chipset with TNT 🤣🤣
I wonder why there is no voltage protection or fuse for the chipset to prevent it from blowing up on such an occasion.
Very very good and interesting working quality without advance tools, this video increase confidence any others they want to do 👌👌👍🎆
Hey.. if u cut braid into smaller size and use a wide tip helps
Nice video
Can you use some guide corner pieces to make sure chip doesnt slide?
Please can you make a video on how to know the exact PCH replacement
On my BGA machine I put a one penny on top of the chip and I put a tiny bit of solder on the chip itself. When it melts it’s fixed. I have fixed tons of laptops like this
I like your job
Nice one 🎉
Beautiful blown chipset IC!!
very very clear
how did you do emi cleaning
I wish I could have the chance to be your students, respect Sir
Hello Sorin, Just noticed that you are checking if the chip was moving by touching it with tweezers from the top, If you don't mind me saying that: the best way to check if the chip is soldered is to slightly poke it from its side and you should see it snapping back into it's place. thanks
I think the HDMI signal only goes up if you start after connected outside monitor/cable, before a bios recently flashed.
Good day sir. please What's the name of the tool you used to reset the bios and can it also be used to flash the bios as well
I've swapped Win10 to different PCs and it works fine after it auto loads a few drivers, and I don't think it even needs internet to do it. I have a UFEI W10 and a non UFEI W10 for testing, ie, maybe make a W10 test SSD.
A chipset replacement that’s a nice job
damn, it's aways a joy to see a risky job like this one pay off
Hi Sorin, on most laptop boards you can force output to hdmi / vga by disconnecting the internal display, even without HDD/SSD 😊
Chipset totally annihilated. "This is quite beautiful" 😄
When you install ssd does it cover the chipset? It looks like it would. I wonder if it affects temperatures 🤔
Magic hands ❤❤❤ good job
Bună sir Sorin!
Pe când continuarea?
O seară frumoasă!
I think that's why there's silicone on the tip that won't move when heated
Aligning the chip that's the biggest challenge
Hi sorin that was good video, if you had a screen to test the laptop it will be good so the costumer will know if screen replacement will get the image back.
I have asus gl504gm with wired problem, the backlit and rgb, keyboard are not working, the serial number on the bios is not existing, how to solve it
Always Good🎉🔥🔥😁
That's CrAaaZy
I wonder why there is no voltage protection or fuse for the chipset to prevent it from blowing up on such an occasion.
Wymiana układu z reki !
No ładnie bez preheatera 😮😅
Super.
O, witam. Też zauważyłem, imponujące 😁
Witam Pana Marka🤝

O nie spodziewałem się Pana tutaj. Ciekawe czy dałoby się tak wymienić hybrydę intela bez stacji bga, samym hotem ew z preheaterem.
Beyond the edge.....😊
Dear sir... may I know what temperature & air flow you use to reflow the new chip?
S is for Sorin… S is for SMOOOOOTH!!! 👌
correct me if I'm but did you match triangle sign before soldering chip 😅
Nice job, Sorin ..but how do you manage to heat up the board so high from behind (on the spot) without being afraid that the components will fall down (a few resistors etc. could be seen there). And: do you have a jig to put the board on or do you have a table with a big hole that you blow the hot air stream through? During the soldering process you always only watch the board from above - how do you control the airflow from below at the same time when you have to be sure that it hits exactly where you want it? Well, soo many questions :)
Hi, the surface tension of the tin will hold them there .. of course you mustn't handle the board like a m....... calm hands .. no sudden movements with the board😉
Hi mate can a macbook air 2017 battery be charged with a dc bench power supply ? like we charge or revive hp laptop batterys, cheers from NZ
perfect
Love from Bangladesh
Nice.😊
Hi Sorin brilliant job, I assume the hot air station was at maximum temperature with no nozzle on the wand , change of screen with out removal of battery and charger as you have said many times is a rookie mistake. regards Jim
Where can u buy the bios read/write device? thx
Hey Sorin,
can I ask how much do you charge to replace the PCH on the nitro 5 laptop if I source some PCH chips ?
thanks
Jason
Depends too on BIOS default settings if laptop starts output hdmi, vga when booted up.
Usually if there are 2 screens connected, the BIOS will default to a laptop screen. Whenever it doesn't recognize a screen, it will go straight to HD...especially new screens 120-166 HZ, there are malfunctions, so immediately deactivate a client's screen and check through the HD output
What happens to the caps below the chip while heating from below the board.? Wont they fall off?
do you think that would be easy to replace a desktop motherboard socket? I mean, would be the same difficult as replace a chipset?
How do I know if I'm buying the right chipset and if is necessary some type of programming next ?
Can't we use capton tape to hold the chip while soldiering 😊
Amazing work, Sir. And I need to buy a chipset pch to my nitro 5 AN517-54-51RQ. But is too hard to find it. Can u recomennd a website??? That would help a lot.
I hope you see this comment 🙌🙌🙌
I'm amazed that the board didn't burn with all that heat for so long. I would be too apprehensive about it. Great fix. Too bad the screen wasn't salvageable.
Big PCBs like that are very resilient.
he actually burned a hole in the board but you can't see it because the chipset is on top
You need BGA rework with lead free profile, hot air just head can blow these chips or make bubbles, some motherboards have more heat resist
What BIOS programmer is Sorin using there?
Just to test .. place an nvme with windows 10... connect the eth cable... wait some minutes.. and after automatic drivers installation you can switch to hdmi using win+p ... ( or just disconnect the screen cable )
if you disconnect the display connector it should output on the HDMI by default for Intel and AMD laptops
Would be nice to see the hdmi working
Would be nice if the ME Region process was posted on the website, might save you some time not having to wait if the discord "guy" is busy, also would help the community if they want to tackle that task themselves without bothering the discord "guy" :)
Would be even nicer if the BIOS of the device you paid for wasn't so locked down xD
it is my first time seeing a PCH damaged like that
i just started bga rework and this makes me feel like a chump for buying all these reflow easy bake ovens hahaha
Great video as always. Just a question, you stated that a cpu chipset can’t fail catastrophically at 1v. I was curious about the type of power a cpu requires to get so hot and came across a data sheet that indicates that pentium i5,7,9 use upwards of 140W@1.1V… that’s almost 140 amps. It even states this amperage on the data sheet. I’m still learning all this and that just sounds bonkers to me. Granted, it’s 1v but 140 amps?? Please explain… thanks
Yes. That is why you need a heatsink over and active fan.
I am not 100% on this, I am still learning. But usually electrical components don't draw more amperage than they need. They got an internal resistance so its basic ohms law. The pch runs somewhere at 1V. There is simply only so much current that gets pushed through. So nowhere close to those 140A that would be available, only a fraction. At 19V its a different story the "pressure" of the Voltage forces much more current in than it can handle. The delicate internal circuits overheat and short out.
Just some random numbers lets say the pch is 4 Ohms then at 1V you'd get 0.25 Amps so merely 0.25W. At 19V you suddenly get 4.75A which would be 90 Watts.
The pch get power from very simple buck converter like lm358. Not wonder it fry easily
Wow... I tried soldering with hot air from underside, and the SMD parts fell off. :)
I am afraid that vertical lines on screen is not just panel problem, but display driver/data lines too, similar to smart TV panel.
Hey sorin, do yo have to worry about the little capacitors coming off from the back of the board while blasting it with hot air?
05:15 there is nothing on the back in that area
Hehe and yet today Sorin thank you :)
Where can i buy the PCH can u send me the link
how much it costs ? some giy charged me around 100$
Nice laptop 😂 ❤
Could you please bring me the link for the chipset?
How much does this cost?
This is a niiiise laptop, nice laptop. 😂😂😂 I look forward to that.
strange with HDMI, even MacBook's (at least Intel ones) allowed you to connect to outside screen via HDMI without a main screen. Maybe it is a windows limit ? or win BIOS limit ? Can I change the BIOS to enable it ?
Not all laptop devices allow display a picture via external HDMI/VGA without main screen, u can do it in all Toshiba & Asus laptop, then Acer & Lenovo in few models u must plugging a main screen
Not all BIOS have display setting when u can select displaying a picture to main screen only or to external screen, so u must try ur self for proving ur device display a picture on external screen without plugging main scren or not
Windows isn't persuade it except the graphics driver
my laptop is the same as the one in the video with the same problem.
Hi Sorin, I expected that the first test after replacing chipset would be to try to start it without screen connected but with live usb and hdmi. I wonder why you cannot try live cs/usb or any other ssd with windows for the test?
Huge mistake if you try to run WIN PE on an open computer you will burn the processor instead!!! Especially that a heatsink must be installed + cooling paste + some of the heatsinks cool additional chips
Some Asus laptops also some from other manufacturers have the same phenomenon. When you enter the bios, the processor runs at 60%-80%, a kind of internal test for the processor. You can monitor fans that work at high RPM... only after you have assembled the computer and placed it on legs at a height where there are ventilation openings from below... after that, run a test. It's fun. ...I'm running WinPE 11-10-8 Sergei Strelec :) on an SSD with ORICO packaging .ballistic missile ")
@@twx8626what? burn the processor? didn't you know it comes with a overheating protection?
@@maklogetrich2378 Absolutely not overwhelmingly!!! Only on the condition that it has cooling and heat rises gradually, a processor can turn itself off!! If the processor is without cooling, you can burn a processor in 3 seconds! If you like to try...you are welcome, don't forget to equip yourself with a fire extinguisher ")
@@twx8626 of course I've been there, using win PE, nothing happen
it just shutting itself off
@@twx8626 good to know, thanks!
Hello. I come from Vietnam. Can you tell me your chipset torch model?
when i did this before, i lose some capacitor from back :) it was like a rain :D :D
Fried until golden crust. And why didn't show the blisters on the back of the board?
