Sorin, i am sure you mistaken when you said 100 ohm resistor, but for the other audience which is learning, that was a 10 ohm resistor. 101 should be 100 ohms. Cheers!
I have the same laptop I5 8300H GTX 1060 - I changed the screen for a 144 hz one and added 16 gb ram, and a 2 TB firecuda ssd/hdd hybrid been working flawlessly for almost 5 years now. I also replaced my SSD for a 1 TB Samsung 980 after updating my stationary :D I've replaced the fans, and thermal paste a due to noise once.
Sorin, you could ask Mouser or any PCB manufacturer if they want some ads in your videos. With the main audience of people interested in electronics, we wouldn't mind this, but will help you with some money to always have good materials and components you need for repairs
Could you imagine how amazing that would be if mouser sponsored this channel. I think we should all email them and motivate them. Imagine never having to hear the sound of disappointment in Sorin voice because someone sold him a bunk chip
I would love that too since not a lot of people appreciate their Laptop and just abandoned them(don't get me started with the gaming laps). We need to show them they precious Laptop is still alive and can be repair with necessary tools and guides.
I use to think your videos are long and boring but watching this video and gaining all this knowledge on top of the knowledge i have made me feel ungrateful..the way how u tackle this problem is very educational and i sure did learn something...thank u
You know you're watching a pro when it looks pretty easy, but if you try to do the same you find out it's really hard. I have this same laptop and I enjoy it a lot, I believe Acer did a lot right with this series, that's why it sells a lot, and if it sells a lot you know you will find replacement parts for it.
I admire you! I don't have the tools or your wealth of experience but I can say from a Manufacturing perspective that making a Light Bulb that Lasts Forever makes for a Bad Business Model! I've worked in the Repair Industry and in Manufacturing and there will Always be work for Repair Engineers. I used to think the contrary and saw the decline of Domestic equipment made to last in favour of replacing them when faulty
Thank you Sorin, had this exact same issue except with an HP that they refused to warranty. Repaired it myself. Talk about annoying. Since they won't honor the warranty might as well roll up my sleeves and do it myself. The next part was Renesas bought Intersil and they won't release the full schematic. I finally found one of the pinouts (not values though) after hours of searching but I already condemned the chip anyways. I'm glad you delved into this fully because I thought I was crazy. I wonder if it's a gaming laptop thing, I'm going to put a cooling pad on it when done just in case... I'm only guessing maybe it is heat from excessive gaming. I always make sure my laptop is elevated for airflow but even then....
Hi. Mr surin. You are a real engineer. Im learning lot of best thing since i found your channel. When i watching your channel you are solder new chip using old nonlead solder remaining on the board. By the my experience that solder not flow very well and need more heat to melt that solder. At this movement im doing i clean old nonleaded solder and apply leaded solder with good flux. It will melt very easily and flow very nicely. Mostly its not make solder bridge. Actually i dont know your point of this step just i share my experience. As a beginner i dont have a ton of experience like you. Do not miss understand about my suggestion. Im still learning from you.
I do miss the uncut videos. You just talking away and getting the full idea of how you find the fault etc. Mate been watching you for years still watch the cut vids but they are not the same. Keep up the good work for the community.
amazing brother ! so cool what privilege we have to learn from you all this problems ! watched every video from day 1 and every time you learn something ! Respect!
Hi Sorin. I'm from watching a lot of the other videos where the laptop was dead - no charging light, no powering up. Right from the point of entry of power, I can't find the 19.8v, or any of the other power supplies. All I'm getting there is 0.6V. The 0.6V disappears on the output side of the second mosfet. In the beginner videos, you'd said to use brute force to find whatever capacitor is shorted. I don't have a power supply. What alternatives can I use? All I have is the charger and a multimeter. Thanks.
Very interesting video thank you sorin to share your knowledge with us :) it help me a lot for my job I own a computer shop and fix a lot of board issues :)
Hello, I have a motherboard for hp- Omen 15-ax250wm problem had some water in it and was disconnected and was in hibernate mode.. the motherboard was cleaned with alcohol and thiner everything seems to be OK and battery is charging. No visible shorts and no component gets hot. When I push the power button I hear a click and that's it doesn't turn on and I tried to figure which component do this click but I couldn't find it. Any help will be appreciated Thank you in advance
From my quick comparison of the two datasheets, the 88739 charge controller has a hybrid-power mode allowing the charger and battery to both power the system, which the 88738 seems to lack. The output circuit topology is a bit different with how the FETs are wired. Possibly the laptop used this feature while the Apple did not.
Ok! Is there a way of checking the chip? Like when you see boards on internet and they are £100 or £130 but they guarantee how do they know that it’s a sound board? So two Questions there. I love the fault finding like when over the years I have had a problem, this can be with anything, but there is always a sequence.
@@electronicsrepairschool 😅 I would say it would be a "duck" 10 times bigger. As I don't know what such resistor is doing in the circuit, I can't say if its value is important or not, but usually one order of magnitude usually changes a lot. About the physical size of the resistor (the original one was a 0805?) doesn't necessarily mean anything, some times it is just a matter of keeping the BOM as small as possible. I also do that on my projects. Anyway, even though I don't agree with everything you say (engineering wise) I always learn something from your videos, so, thanks 😊
According to the schmatic for the board the resistor is 10 ohm 1206 5%. In series with the double diode, delivering power to ISL pin DCIN. He replaced it with the right value but a smaller package, so all depends on the power the ISL consumes😊
@@electronicsrepairschool 😅 according to my calculations, nothing that 300 meters of a 1mm diameter copper wire wouldn't solve. Besides, it would be much easier to carry the laptop around, just pull it by the wire! 😁

hello i have a laptop acer nitro-an515-52 it turn on but no image, the first mosfet is short but i found a burn capacitor near SY8288CRAC chip change it but no power and fan don spin cpu becam hot charging indicator blinking but battery is fix ok 13.5 volt , with the bord out and on charger plug in no curent taken mean no shurt what can i do what i must check thanks
I think the same happens to my Acer Nitro 5 AN616-55-7079. It has a Core i7 10th GEN and a GTX GPU. No Power at all. No idea what to do, all PC repair shops in my Area denied to even have a closer look to the Problem. The error occured shortly after running out of warranty. It‘s a gaming laptop but only used for audio as DAW. Would you accept when i send it to you ?
Hi! May I ask what temperature you have your rework station set at when removing a MOSFET as I'm struggling to remove them on some old laptop motherboards I'm using to practice? Thanks.
Generally just use Max temperature. Mine is 450°C. If your own Max is beyond that, 450 can go. Air between 20-40%. Because if air is high it can blow off nearby smaller components.
Hi. I have Acer Nitro 5 AN515-52-77HV. I have orange charging light on but computer will not power ON. Tried the power reset and pin hole technique, still no power. Opened the unit, removed battery, checked RAM, checked all connectors, checked motherboard... nothing out of the usual. Pin #1 displays 3.3vdc. Tried to momentarily short Pin #1 of keyboard connector to ground to manually switch ON, nothing. No liquid spilled on keyboard, No ants crawling. Please HELP!
