I absolutely loved this video! With all the issues of using non toxic ,yet not really to be eaten glitter, luster dust etc....this gives you a great option for that gold tier on a cake. And as far as cost...just include it on your price!
Elegant, beautiful and so so gorgeous with the peony. Think I have the inspiration for my parents 60th wedding anniversary! Ashley Marie.. Thanks for sharing, and giving your tips on working with gold leaf. Xx
+Sarah Le Moignan you are so very welcome! it's PERFECT for a 60th anniversary, let me know how it goes! I'd suggest using silver leaf for any practicing (cheaper)
Outstanding…I've been very skeptical about purchasing/trying the gold leaf….at the price I wanted to get an idea of the best way to apply it to a cake. This was VERY helpful!!! Thank you! Kevin
Thank you for sharing this with us! I have bought silver leaves and was so afraid of ruining them when applying to a cake... Your explanation made me much more confident!
Fabulous, love how easy you've made this look. Steamer is an ace idea. Have you ever applied gold leaf to buttercream/chocolate frosting? That's my project soon for the bottom tier of a wedding cake and with what you said about the colour seeping through I wondered if that might happen with the chocolate?
Hi Ashley, loved your video !!!! I'm making my friends wedding cake and one layer is going to be covered in silver leaf...... I'm a hobby baker and will be attempting it..... what can I use to attach some pearls to make a border ?
+mariadufault are you doing frosting pearls or fondant pearls? of it's frosting just pipe right onto the base once you have the cake in place, if your using fondant pearls I recommend one of the silicone pearl molds amzn.to/1NGPSmy and then you cna use brush some clear alcohol on the back of the pearls before sticking them into place
I have heard of people that have used it successfully on buttercream but PERSONALLY I don't want to risk the grease/fat from the buttercream ruining costly gold - personal preference! but yes it can be done - I've just never done it to say what works best
+battersandbits catering I have NOT tried it, and don't plan to, that's a lot of $ to send on something I don't think will work. If the buttercream is still damp enough to stick to it's also greasy, and with what grease just from my fingers does to the gold leaf it worries me. and if it's dry enough that it's not greasy it won't stick! GAH. I will say I've had comments on my blog post that people have used it on buttercream with great success, but PERSONALLY I can't speak from experience on this one.
I was thinking that gold leaf would look stunning against a black fondant background... but would it leak through, ruining the effect (as you mentioned with the other orange-y color)?
hey there, I loved your video thank you. I did aantiqued silver leaf effect on a cake yesterday and it was the first time I have used leaf, but my gosh it was soooooo difficult, it didn't not come off like yours! mine was on transfer papers and it just wouldn't come off the transfer paper in one go!! it was sugarflair brand and took me hours!!! was yours loose leaf? what brand do you use? Thank you so much Ashlee . 😍😍😍
yes mine is loose leaf, which also means it slides off super easy and sometimes that's an issue. I order all mine on amazon this is the one I ALWAYS order for silver amzn.to/2d8sljU have ordered it 4 times no issues
I have links to everything in the description box Gold Leafing (anything 24 karat's works) one packages will cover an 8 inch cake, barely amzn.to/1TFC95U Steamer amzn.to/22hkvFD Fondant amzn.to/210DDqS
for an 8 inch I used 24 sheets, for the 6 inch less, but I honestly didn't count, the set's come in 25 leaf's so I probably had like 4-5 left, maybe only 3...
I personally haven't and wouldn't - I've has some readers claim it works - but it wouldn't stick to buttercream that is crusted - and fresh buttercream has a lot of fat in it and i'd be worried it would mess with the gold in weird ways - it's expensive enough I haven't experimented with it since fondant works so well and I use fondant 99% of the time on cakes
for an 8 inch I use all but on sheet in a pack, for this 6 inch I used all but 4 I believe. BUT if you make any mistakes you'll need those extra sheets.
+Liz Martinez I personally haven't, the grease makes me nervous with something that expensive. I believe you can add pieces of gold leaf to a buttercream cake, but to cover it completely like this, that would be a risk, since buttercream is so easily pressed and broken, you'd also have to add it before it crusted over.
Love it! Love your channel. Where do you live? I'm in Los Angeles, if you're ever out this way and would be interested in doing a collaboration, let me know!
I was JUST in LA for RUclips NextUp last week! but I'm back in Utah now. I do need to head back to LA to make use of using the RUclips space and equiptment (but I hate the lack of a kitchen stage) I'd LOVE to collab! I'm obsessed with donuts so your mini donuts looks awesome (I love making maple bacon donuts)! and those mini drumsticks! so fun!
well next time you're in town let me know! Would love to do a fun video with you! 😀 can you believe I still haven't gone to the RUclips space? And it's only ten minutes from me. I've heard that they don't have any real kitchen set up as well, so it hasn't been a sense of urgency to go. So bad of me. I'm going to try and go this week though. Anyways, so glad to hear from you! And look forward to meeting you soon! My email is cookingwithlovebites@gmail.com
a few readers have tried it, but I personally wouldn't, it's a lot of money to play with working with something so greasy, but I get enough questions about it I need to just suck it up and try it!
it's just one of many metallic effects for cakes - if you don't like it no pressure - don't use it! it doesn't have a taste, is safe to eat and looks stunning.
Ashlee Marie Cakes lol everything that could go wrong did. lifting it to the cake sometimes my finger touched it then you know it clings to it. Sometimes the leaf stuck onto the opposite end of the paper and the gold leaf underneath was sticking to the same piece. and then I ran out so we had to overnight an order. but the new leaf we did get came with transfer papers that weren't attached to the pink papers and it was a world of difference. I'll have to check what brand it was but it was way easier. I wish I could show you a picture of how it turned out, because after the headache of it, it did look stunning.
Not only did I learn something and WOW- what a pretty cake- but I also love your icing spread intro!
+Basilmomma Heather Tallman thank you so very much!!

+June Laubach-Hinkle exactly! as long as it's 24 karat it's totally safe to eat!!! and thank you so very much!

you are so very welcome! I tried with silver leaf first, since i'ts cheaper, a good way to "practice" but i love the gold leaf look!

Lovely video, good job.
thank you so much!
Hi thats a beautiful cake could we use gold leaf on a buttercream covered cake or does it have to be fondant.
I have heard of people that have used it successfully on buttercream but PERSONALLY I don't want to risk the grease/fat from the buttercream ruining costly gold - personal preference! but yes it can be done - I've just never done it to say what works best
This is so cool! It looks so beautiful! And, my daughters and I love the flower on top! :)
+Watch Learn Eat thank you so much! I showed the tutorial for that last week if your interested ruclips.net/video/W2-VXUTiEpg/видео.html
+Ashlee Marie Cakes Thanks - I'll check it out with the girls! :)
hello, i was wondering if i could apply the gold leaf sheets to swiss meringue buttercream covered cakes?
+battersandbits catering I have NOT tried it, and don't plan to, that's a lot of $ to send on something I don't think will work. u'r just adorable, all u make is amazing, thank u😍
that is so sweet, thank you
Hi Ashlee, love you videos. Can you put a gold leaf covered cake in fridge please? Thank you
Thank you! and yes you can but you can also just store it on the counter, either way make sure it is airtight
@@Ashleemariecakes Thank you in fridge now in cardboard box
I was thinking that gold leaf would look stunning against a black fondant background... but would it leak through, ruining the effect (as you mentioned with the other orange-y color)?
Gorgeous! How do you get a permanent gloss btw 🤔👀
the gold leaf is shiny, so you don't add anything to it
can you do this on a shop bought / pre-made white fondant cake?
I haven't tried it but I don't see why not!
Could you grind up the gold sheets to make a pure gold luster dust? I’m having trouble finding a gold luster dust that doesn’t have additives
I am not sure that would work but you can try it! I haven't attempted something like that before, also check amazon for gold luster dust
your voice is so relaxing

Dear Ashlee, thank you for this video!Iis your cake covered with royal icing or with sugar paste? Thanks!
It's fondant - NEVER cover a cake with royal icing - it will dry rock hard and you won't be able to cut it!
Адьбина Гусова Thanks for the answer!
Thank you for your video.
you are so very welcome!!!
it looks absolutely amazing. 😍😍. #ashleemarieisawsome
+Michaela Smith thank you so very much! it's so easy and well stunning!

Hi, On the link you provided to purchase the gold leaf it says 23k. Is that a typo? THanks!
where did you get the gold leaf and how much was it?? thanks!
amazon - one packages will cover an 8 inch cake, barely amzn.to/1TFC95U

great tutorial! Thank you :-)
You are wonderful! :)
awww thank you!
is it real 24k gold or just the type of gold tone of 24k?
+Mizz Wicked Official real 24k gold, nothing else is edible
This turned out stunning! I've bought small packets for accents but I think i need to stop being cheap and get enough to cover a cake ;) Ha!
+Meagan Makes Cupcakes it's pricey enough it's def a commitment, but it's so seriously stunning it's worth it IMO

god's work. i am absolutely terrified of your golden cake
So Beautiful...was I the only one holding my breath when her hands kept getting closer to the cake as she is saying not to touch the cake 🤣🤣🤣
Is it real gold if u eat gold in the future there won't be any gold let
it's barely over half an ounce - so it's really not much at all - it would take a LOT of cake to cause a gold shortage
Ok I'm just worry
But its real right?
yup real gold - but it's so thin it is barely any gold at all. for the entire cake its around 1/2 an ounce.
and the idea of eating gold is?
to make your turds come out shiny :)
so people then take pictures and videos to upload them on dumbb...I mean facebook and youtube?
it's just one of many metallic effects for cakes - if you don't like it no pressure - don't use it! it doesn't have a taste, is safe to eat and looks stunning.
Taut: firm, not loose
Taunt: to tease
Yes I'm sorry, sometimes I get a little tounge tied:)
Cool hair. You look so edgy.
Oh my God this was a nightmare for me at work today...Currently waiting for more gold leaf. I want to tear my hair out lol
