      Start at the front, read to the back, take it literal unless it is obviously figurative. Get a Strong's concordance and look at each word, it don't take that long as sometimes words may not mean what they seem. Don't ever give up! If it is boring then something is wrong. Just keep going if nothing else. Read first and last thing each day. Also look at names and their meanings. Trust me on that. They form a story ALWAYS. For your first learning, take Adam to Noah and it forms story of Gospel in a nutshell. Your first project I want you to try. Thank me later. 😊 God bless!

      If you want to understand the Bible start with Roman's,
      Roman's is written by the Apostle he is our Apostle for today as Gentiles. He was appointed by Jesus in Acts 9. He was confirmed in Acts 15 and Galatians 2. By the other Apostles. Peter says in 2Peter 3 if you want to know how to be saved you have to go to Paul's letters.
      Jesus even says in Matthew 15:24
      I am not sent but unto , the lost sheep of the house of isreal.
      Paul tells us we will be judged by his Gospel in Roman's 2:16.
      What is Paul's Gospel, it's the Gospel that the Ascended Lord revealed to him
      1 Corinthians 15:1-4. When you believe that you are saved. PAUL tells us in Ephesians 1:13 When we hear the Gospel of our Salvation and we believe it we are sealed by the Holy Spirit of promise.
      The whole Bible is the word of God and is true, but the part that he wants us to read for doctrine, Reproof, correction, and instruction of righteousness is Paul's Letters.
      Paul tells us in 2 Timothy 2:15 to study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of Truth.
      The Gospel will not be found in any other book in the Bible other than Paul's letters.
      It was a mystery hidden since the beginning of time and only revealed to Paul. Read Roman's 15:25.
      The 4 Gospels tell us who Christ is, what he was here for, what he did. The book of Acts is a transition from the law to Grace. Then from Roman's to Hebrews tells us why Christ did what He did and how by what he did he now offers a free gift of Salvation by Faith+Nothing. ✝️✝️✝️🙏🙏🙏

    Chadd, your choices were excellent! Washington is one of my hero’s. My 5th great grandfather was a sergeant in the 4th, 8th, and 12th Regiments of the Virginia Continental Line in the Revolution. He took several direct orders from General Washington and was shown fit for duty all 6 months of Valley Forge where he assisted Von Steuben train the Continentals. He received land warrant 1022 for 200 acres in the New Wilderness (Kentucky) for his 3 years service. When Washington resigned as General of the Army he met with his command staff at a tavern to tell them. After giving his speech and taking his leave it is said that all of his battle hardened command staff wept! Enough said.

      Its amazing such profoundly introspective people still buy into alot of the ridiculous religious texts hook line and sinker. Makes me wonder sometimes. If their geographical location of birth and raising was different would the be a believer in that culture's predominant religion? That's usually how it works.
      A favorite quote I heard was something to the effect of "Atheists and Christians are nearly identical, Atheists just believe in one less god". Christians in this quote could be replaced with many religions in my opinion. Im just glad Chadd is a cool dude and I reckon we'd probably have alot of common beliefs but man I'd love to bend his ear on what motivates him to be a Christian. Not that I want to change his mind but rather Im curious and find value in the discussion. Further more he seems like someone who has actually explored himself philosophically which in my experience generally means he has specific reasons for holding any beliefs or world views he has. Most people just are what they are because that's all they know. I don't think Chadd is like that from the sounds of it which makes him about as rare hens teeth these days

    My father was a Rigger in the 82nd during the 60's, He gave me The Band of Brothers by Steven Ambrose. Enjoyed it so much I have read it twice. My favorite character in the book was Dick Winters, a great leader and was essentially the nucleus of the 506th during Normandy, Operation Market Garden, The Ardennses/Belgium, and The Battle of the Bulge plus the occupation of Berlin and Germany. The character development of these American warriors and the historical aspect makes it a great read. If you have seen the movie series it is pale in comparison to the book even though it was a great series within itself. A man such as yourself will appreciate this read especially if you like history and the "brotherhood", my father appreciated it. Just an FYI the "book" is something I have been reading it some from time to time and am now very interested in books by CS Lewis. Thanks!

    I’m glad to have found this channel recently, I have enjoyed your videos. Two things to go along with what you said: it’s funny to me that there are so many people complaining about “crazy liberals” changing the meanings of words, but then they will go read a version of the Bible with modernized language. The King James Version is not modernized and we can’t apply modernized definitions to the words it contains, therefore the language used is often stronger or more meaningful. And then on the topic of Washington, and the Continental Army; the army had chaplains, the majority of which were Baptist, Washington is said to have been baptized by John Gano a baptist chaplain during the revolutionary war. George Washington is said to have given the sword given to him by Lafayette to John Gano.

      The KJV is a translation of the original texts as well, from that time, with that language. While I’ll agree that some versions of the Bible have completely changed the text, most current versions like the NKJV, NASB and ESV are using the same texts (and more recently discovered texts). If those “modernized” versions of the Bible are bringing a person to Christ and getting them reading the Word, it’s not a bad thing, wouldn’t you agree? I read with a KJV study Bible and NKJV, ESV, if I stumble on translation I have those two translations to help.

    • @mydash5616
      @mydash5616 Год назад +1

      @@Alvin_C_York I did not say other versions are bad, although I know some of them are. I believe, as would be the case with any book, if people were to translate it from one language to another and not always come to the same words or words that mean the same thing, then something might be amiss. Languages haven’t changed that much that someone translating a book should be so altered that whole verses would be missing(in some versions whole passages are missing). What has changed is how we today use words compared to even 20 years ago, and all those word carry less meaning than they used to, not greater meaning. To me, reading any other version would be like reading an abridged version of an autobiography. Like it’s not the same.

    • @LTVoyager
      @LTVoyager Год назад

      The KJV is very modernized as it was written thousands of years after the original manuscripts. Modern is a relative term and if you want to be technical, the KJV is very modernized in the scheme of things. However, it is hard to read given the changes in meanings of many words since it was written and other more contemporary translations are much more suitable for learning in our current time.

    • @mydash5616
      @mydash5616 Год назад +1

      @@LTVoyager so the context from the video, is that he likes the way the King James Version is written and that it doesn’t use modernized language. So you can argue the relative meaning of modern, but you’d be arguing with yourself. I believe that if you want/need help understanding the King James Bible, get a Strongs Concordance and an older dictionary; they both help a lot.

      Something to consider : Biblical Christianity isn’t an organized religion. It isn’t even actually a religion.
      The root of the word means to tie back. All religions teach what we must do to tie ourselves back to God [or gods]
      Christianity teaches there is nothing we can do, that HE took on that burden for us, if only we will accept it. This is sometng most people and most churches don’t seem to grasp.

    "Mere Christianity" is a great read! As I recall, the content of that book was originally a series of BBC radio broadcasts during the second world war. Also, one of my favorites by Lewis is "The Weight of Glory." Its a bit heavy on the philosophy side, but worth the time. Finally, for those that don't know, Lewis was an infantry officer in WW1, at the tender age of just 19 years old!

    • @BenWeeks

      Another that is worth a look is "Till We have Faces" where Lewis rewrites a greek myth that takes place within a pagan worldview. He makes a very powerful christian point but it's much more layered and subtle compared to Narnia. There's a level of implied horror in the book too which makes it darker than his other work, which some audiences might appreciate.
