These are the most beautiful intricate pine needle baskets that I've ever seen. Absolutely stunning.
Wow!! Her art is just beautiful!! She is very inspiring! 😃
I have been meeting with and learning to weave pine needles from a group of Native American women at our local senior center & have just finished my first basket, it is very rewarding and enjoyable activity. And yes, I do believe also, this IS a Natice American tradition.
my grandmother learned this method at the university of Tennessee in the early 1900 and then in turn, with groups of young teachers, taught crafts to the impoverished appalachians. they also taught basket making using honeysuckle vines. I still have the honeysuckle one. used to have the long pine needle one but lost it. I remember how soft it was. i have a picture of her with her fellow teachers.
Those are beautiful! I love the use of the walnuts in some of them.
Really nice work. Beautiful!!! Contratulations and regards from Brazil!!
I have been searching on the internet and there is a wealth of knowledge about basket weaving of all kinds. Where you can get what you need and even free instructions.
Happy Basket Weaving to all who try. Deborah Oh boy I’m so caught up in beading …but basket weaving added to my glass jewelry making , my kiln. I love creating.

How do you prepare the rafia for stitching? Do you soak it or something? I am experimenting with different ways, stitching and blending shades. Love your baskets. You are right, the needles seem to have their own idea of how they will turn out. "Loblolly Art"
I love her pine needle gauge, its a cut length of a large sipping straw - low tech awesome!
oh your baskets are so beautiful! i go to TN 3-4 times a yr so where can i find the long needles?
Please Please Please - remember every culture wove and spun until it was no longer necessary. then only crafters have kept it alive - every culture all over the world used what was available in their area and completed beautiful art.
Karen G the Crafter's in every culture did the weaving.

I'm in Ontario, Canada, alas, too far away! LOL.
