Thank you so much for this video! My first lesson was yesterday and I am a very slow learner and could not keep up with the rest of the class. Now after watching this video I will be able to finish this part. Thanks again!
i wish you had shown us at the end, your base as it looks, covered, with seed beads, just a glimpse! :) I kept trying to picture how I would cover those holes, and was happy to learn you do like to cover them later. And re: the drill press or scroll saw- yes!! I too would have asked for them, had I known or recalled their names. You remind me, I need to find a good basic shop book. My parents got a book for the family called The Workshop Book, but we probably never had the means to really equip a workshop, though they made us a beautiful doll house and showed us how to make little people for it out of wooden spool bodies and the snakes (for limbs) you make out of those little wooden spool and nail knittters. Thank you for this, I am enjoying a day of Natural pursuits, beginning with cedar bark cordage, which I watched three times just because I really enjoyed the outdoors atmosphere. Now is a perfect time in the world for picking up all the basic skills many of us never learned, in order that we can come into a true relationship with Nature and all that it provides for us. That would be a real renewal of humanity, back to feeling blesed, rather than oppressed or lacking.
Excellent tutorial!!!! That's exactly how I do it but a few years back when I first started making pine needle baskets, there was no tutorial that I could find and I had to figure it all out on my own! Thanks for posting this!
I have two videos with different methods to add a new thread. One is called Hidden Knot method and the other is Top of the Coil method. They both work great.
When you do the stitches are you going in between the coil ? I tried stopping/starting the video and I see where you come between the first time but after that? Like all round ? Sorry - that sounds as clear as mud but I seem to break the needles if I go through them. Thanks for your help
I like to treat my needles with glycerin. It makes them more pliable. I have a video on how to do it. Glycerin treating pine needles for pine needle baskets ruclips.net/video/WSgHHbJUqKg/видео.html
Watch my video on winding a coil through windows. There I talk about using wire. Enjoy! Winding a Coil through windows on a pine needle basket ruclips.net/video/LXbyX3j5Gvw/видео.html
Yes. So, you will need to reverse all my instructions. When I say go in on the left and come out on the right you will do the opposite. You will work from left to right with the pine needles pointing over your right shoulder. I have taught lefties and it comes naturally to them. I even taught one person who used both hands! Have fun with it.
I followed your video and have my basket made. I want to add beads at each hole. How do I keep the bead and stitch on the top to stay in the same position.
I’m so glad you are using my videos to coil your basket. I have three videos on adding beads. One is under a wrapped row, one is under a “dummy wrap”, and the third uses different colors of thread for the wrap and the stitching in between. You can find them on my channel Linda’s Creative Coiling. Try the one called Adding Beads to a pine needle basket - Part 1
These weren’t what I needed. My project is complete. I’m trying to add the beads through the drilled holes on the base. I’m coming up from the back through the drilled hole. I thread my bead and go back through the same to the back. It’s the stitch going back through that won’t stay perpendicular to the base.
Ok. I think I understand what you are trying to do. Come up from the back through the hole, go through the bead, then go back in the same hole. Carry your thread across on the back to the next hole. That should attach your beads and cover the holes. Your thread will be hidden
@@lp2811 thank you. That’s exactly what I did. My problem is that when I go back down the hole, the thread won’t stay straight up. So the hole of the bead gets turned around at different angles.’
A lot of it has to do with “handedness”. I am right handed so it is more natural for me to go from right to left and hold my work in my left hand. That leaves my right hand available for easy stitching If I worked left to right the ends of the needles would be in my way. Some maneuvers are much easier when going right to left - wrapping being a prime example. I can hold the coil with my left hand and easily wrap the thread with my right hand without having to swing around the ends of the needles each time.
I don’t usually post pictures of my baskets. I had a website but it went away. I guess I should post more. I’ll think about how you could send me some pics. I’d love to see them.
Great video! I just discovered making baskets with pine needles and this video is clear and helpful.
I love that you are showing every step. Very helpful! 😊

So happy to help!
Your tutorials are wonderful! You are a wonderful teacher. Thank you for taking the time to make videos.

I didn’t use seed beads on this one. Maybe I’ll do another video where I add them to the base. Thanks for your comments.

Thanks for commenting! It’s nice to connect with someone out there!
Very nice. Just learning love this craft.
Great video for beginners.Thank you for sharing 😍
Great video! It was very helpful. Thanks .
Great info for us as beginners! We r getting pine needles!
Hope you try some coiling!
Wow thank you, a big help for me madam👏
رائع جدا ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you. Very helpful 😁💕
Got first row done but then needed more thread, how do i do that? Love your video, just need to know how to add another leangh of thread. Thank you.

Thanks, i will look for the other two videos. Have a good day.

As a general rule I piece the needles about 1/3 of the way down the coil. Use a sharp, pointed needle. That gives you a tight stitch and solid rows.
@@lindascreativecoiling8041 thank you
Did you have to prepare the needles in a particular way to stop them from snapping?
I like to treat my needles with glycerin. It makes them more pliable. I have a video on how to do it. Glycerin treating pine needles for pine needle baskets

I want to see how to start this basket using a V stitch. I’m good until I have to start the second row. Could you do a video on that method?
How far apart are holes drilled in the base? 1/4 or 1/8
Usually 3/8 inch. At least 1/4 for a nice look. If you are doing leaf stitch or fern stitch they should be farther apart for those rows.
What kind of wire do you use? Thank you
Watch my video on winding a coil through windows. There I talk about using wire. Enjoy!

Do you have anywhere that you post your baskets or any way I could send you a few photos of mine?
