Coiled Basket Kit - Pine Needle

You can dye pine needles by soaking them in water with a splash of vinegar for about 1/2 hour, rinse and place them in a roasting pan with a tablespoon of Rit dye, teaspoon of salt, pour boiling water over them, use tongs to stir, put in 400 degree oven for 1/2 hour and reduce heat to 250 for about 2-1/2 hours or so. You can also add glycerin which makes the needles retain moisture and flexibility, however, in this video the needles did not have glycerin. For raffia, I have success dying it with Rit dye and very hot boiling water in a bin for about an hour until the color you want is achieved, rinse and hang dry.

Hello, yes, you need to soften the pine needles by soaking in water or boiling/baking in water. Some people use glycerin which makes the pine needles flexible even when they dry after treating.

Way less than a pound! Maybe a big handful or so but it depends on the size and weight of the needles. You can always start and go get more as you need!
