On other stoves I've used, my usual practice is as the preheat flame starts dying down I'll crack the valve open a little and the burner lights up the way it's supposed to just like you did in the demo.
Great Review Matt,,, I appreciate the detailed view showing the mechanics of changing from gas to W/ gas. I’ve had the whisper light international for close to 40 years and never had any problems. I’ve got the XGK model too,,,, The MSR repair kits are excellent and cover every model. They even have a below zero,, fuel pump. So people don’t like cooking with these,, I’ve always been able to simmer and boil. Your model was a lot quitter than the international model. For the last 3 years I’ve been exploring the “Wood Stove” world,,,, But my MSR stoves are always Reliable,,,, Cheers 🎉
Ah! I was thinking it was Aviation fuel or something! I’ll be ok with White Gas or Petrol for a bit, £1.57 a Litre for about 2 hrs of burn isn’t all that bad!!
White petroleum in the Uk it’s Coleman liquid fuel, you can use the stuff they rub cars down with before painting it’s cleaner than unleaded fuel. White gas is the American term for it.
13:51 Often the jets get stuck tight in the fuel line. Flip the fuel line over and insert the jet end backwards in its home on the bottom of the stove and use the stove body as a grip to avoid bending the generator tube. IIRC this is in the older manuals but isnt in the newer manuals See MSR official maintenance video, 2:29 ruclips.net/video/e_2qN3ZTQSE/видео.htmlsi=CSdcDLoEyKsaNz1v
@mattsmindfulmeals5981 if you run whiperlite universal on kerasene aka paraffin you will have to prime it 2 or 3 time as its much more difficult to get running on kerasene or paraffin as it really needs to be very hot before it will vaporise and the cup is very small so if you use those fuels it will be harder to get going so you be better to stick with white gas or iso canisters

I think cooking on wood is my favourite, but this will be my wet cold winter stove! I’ll see if Santa gets me a servicing kit😂
Great video Matt! Useful info. Thanks.
Hey Matt, for Kerosene try Lamp Oil or Paraffin oil in the UK.

No same camera but I’d wiped it off a fair bit, and it was a bit muggy as you’ll probably know!

Kerosene in UK is paraffin
Similar.

I only use petrol or Coleman fuel. Paraffin is not recommended for use in it
